Bishkek - London in Economy. Flew a new 737-800 from Bishkek to Istanbul. Whilst a new plane, the seats are the worst I have encountered on any flight. There is little legroom and when the seats recline, the seat base slides forward reducing legroom even more. Flight (5 hrs 40 mins) also very hot and no supply of water unless you went to the back galley. These planes are not suitable for this route. Leg from Istanbul to London much better on A340, legroom OK, but electronics box under seat in front not good. Video system not working.

We recently flew from Rome to Istanbul, Istanbul to Odessa return. Having just arrived in Rome via Air Canada from Toronto where the food, that we had thought could not possibly be worse than on previous AC flights, was (worse), we received a cold pre-packaged muffin and a beverage as our "breakfast" after an overnight flight. We boarded TA for the short flight to Istanbul, the aircraft interior was clean, the cabin crew pleasant and smiling and the lunch superb. The same experience awaited us on our remaining TA legs. Best airline food in ages delivered efficiently and with a smile!

JFK-IST-NRT round trip in April 2012. Turkish had just introduced the Comfort Class last year and I suspect it was a promotional fare, only about $400 more than the Economy fare for this trip. Priority boarding for the most part (not all airports), amenity kit was the same as Economy except NRT-IST, the longest leg (12 hrs), they gave us a nicer pack, even though the same Comfort Class. Seat was very comfortable with 46 inches of leg room and personal reading light on hand. There is no space under the seat in front of you to put any carry on. Food was excellent. First time I had airline food that actually tasted good and was enjoyable. Porcelain dishes, metal silverware, white linen on the tray, salt & pepper shakers, all very nice. Wine selections of Turkish and French, both red and white, were not mentioned and offered consistently. Mid-flight snack consisted of sweet cakes and savoury sandwiches but no wagon service, just stocked in the galley and it was not announced, so if you didn't read carefully you would miss it. The lavatory was noticeably larger than any I've seen and was kept very clean throughout the flight. Flight attendants were not overly friendly, but good enough, they just did their job.

Birmingham-Istanbul-Birmingham. Newish A321 outbound, very new A321 return - flights were both smooth and comfortable. Boarding at Birmingham 20 minutes late, when the plane was loaded and the doors closed, we stood at the gate for 40 minutes with no comment or information from cabin staff or crew. Lunch outbound barely lukewarm beef stew, more fat than meat. Return flight: check-in desks not properly labelled. Enquiries to supervisor staff met with supercilious bemusement. The gate was not shown as open on the displays for at least a quarter hour after it had in fact opened. We'd checked in online, and had printed off our Boarding Cards (described as such on the not-very-good website, and labelled as such; I've used such things dozens of times on other airlines); at the gate we were told that we should have got Boarding Cards (the familiar old card variety) at the check-in desk, and that whatever we had it wasn't a Boarding Card. We were nevertheless allowed to board. The impression given by check-in and gate staff at Ataturk was that this was all something they hadn't done before, and it was all a bit of a surprise.

Thessaloniki to Istanbul and then Cairo. Both flights on time but I didn't get my bag at my final destination. I had to wait 3 days to get it. My flight back home (Cairo-Istanbul-Thessaloniki) was full of surprises, I missed my flight to Thessaloniki because of delays and staff didn't give any information about what would happen to transit passengers. We ended up running to get a flight that was already gone! After that we ended at Turkish Airlines Transit Desk to understand that many passengers missed their flights or had overbooking problems. All of us had to spend the night at a hotel 1hour 15minutes from the airport. Returning back to the airport the next day I was worried about my luggage. I went to the Check-in Desk to express my concern and they assured me my luggage would travel back home with me. No luggage once again, I got my things the next day. It was the first and the last time for me.

Istanbul to Brussels last Tuesday 28th of August but my flight was actually overbooked so I left the morning after with the 07.50 flight. I have never seen such chaos. 100 passengers to several destinations were overbooked and the Turkish Airlines agents at the airport were very rude to us. It took several hours to get to a hotel where we could sleep. The shuttles in the morning to take us to the airport did not have enough capacity so some passengers had to stay behind. We had to fight against rude and incompetent agents at the airport to receive our compensation. Conflicting and confusing messages and instructions all over the place. I am very disappointed with that service.

Istanbul-Amsterdam, last Friday 8-31-2012, (TK 1957) was overbooked (9 seats!). We were directed to an overcrowded THY office and told to try getting standby boarding passes (I was accompanying a child). The office was total chaos, full of overbooked and angry passengers, staff were not competent, our passports were temporarily lost, it was a nightmare. Finally we got standby passes and had to wait at the gate - no THY personnel speaking English anywhere. Rising panic among overbooked passengers, at the last second we plus 1 other lady were told to go board. On arrival in Amsterdam our baggage was missing. Took more than a day to get it back. Again no apologies.

I flew between IAD (Washington Dulles) and IST inbound and outbound flights - July 25 and August 7. Overall experience satisfactory: no delays, no baggage lost. However, disappointed with meal service and entertainment program. Meal service was late and slow, e.g. the crew started serving drinks 3 hours after the take-off. The printed meal menu promised two options, e.g., beef vs. chicken. However, by the time the trolley arrived by my seat, it would be out of options. Since this happened on both flights, I suspect the options were only available on paper. Had big hopes for the entertainment program: it's an 11-hour long flight. Again, the screen menu offered lots of movies and TV shows, but in reality half of them were not accessible - some sort of glitch in the system.

August 2012. CAI-IST-SKG. Ground staff in Cairo airport were outnumbered and the wait in the queue outreached 45 min. The Cabin, the food and the air services were ok (I have seen better). The baggage of course got lost in Istanbul airport and is still to be found, the second flight had an hour delay. The one way ticket CAI-SKG costs €580!

Frankfurt - IST - Trabzon and then Tblissi - IST - Frankfurt. Out of 4 planes boarded, all interiors were different (some red, some light blue, some dark blue) with however only one common denominator all the planes looked worn out, dirty and old. No IFE except for the domestic leg aircraft, where is was not proposing any shows. Big problem with staff attitude, while fairly courteous, definitely not effusive and not all staff are competent in English. Only food was always pleasant. Istanbul airport is chaotic, dirty and feels like an enormous camping site during the night, as other reviews also acknowledge, but this is not the airline.

ATH-IST-ATH. Keeps on improving. I cannot find any faults with this flight. Lets hope the move out of Ataturk Airport will be sooner rather than later, as it is obvious it cannot cope with the ever increasing demand of Turkish Airlines.
