LHR-TXL and TXL-LCY via ZRH on economy. Legroom on all flights spacious, thanks to moving the seat pocket to the upper half of the seat back as this enhances the legroom massively. Seat width is reasonable. FA's courteous and efficient. Snacks onboard was of a decent size and quality.

VIE-ZRH new seats offer better seating space. Window seat on emergency exit does not recline as it is on emergency exit. I fail to understand the rational for the other seats in the same row do recline. Service was friendly.

First

CDG-ZRH-LAX First Class. I was lucky enough to snag this on my BMi points, have travelled biz on a regular basis but was curious to see if there would be a huge difference travelling First. The first leg was an A320 in biz. The flight was nothing spectacular, on time, nice crew, didn't take the food so can't comment. Seat normal economy with a few extra inches of legroom which was appreciated. Worst bit was boarding in CDG, awful terminal with security at the gates which took 50 mins to clear. I for one will avoid SAS and Swiss from CDG in future. I overnighted in ZRH so checked in the next morning at the First check in lounge which was nice and quiet. ZRH is a really nice airport, clean, bright, spacious. Headed to the Swiss First Lounge and was asked if I would like a limo transfer to my flight, how could I refuse? The lounge is very modern and airy and split into several sections which means you can find a quiet spot fairly easily. There is also a dining section as well as some hot food on offer in the main part of the lounge. Plenty of fine wines, champagnes, spirits etc. At my designated time I went back to the reception to be escorted to my limo transfer. I was politely asked to wait for a few moments as other guests would be joining me. Was led out with 5 others to go through security and board our merc people carrier (not quite a limo) then driven to the gate where the host left us with the rest of the pax. Had to go through security again just before the gate then joined the 100's of others in the boarding area. Unfortunately the JFK flight was boarding opposite the LAX one so it was very noisy and seemed completely disorganised with the first/business line and long as the economy one and obviously filled mostly with economy pax. Waited until the lines reduced then boarded, there was a separate air bridge for First pax but it seemed a bit wasted after the scrum at the gate. Onboard all that was quickly forgotten. Swiss is currently updating their First & Business cabins, the 340 I was on still has the current configuration but I found it to be spacious and comfortable as a seat and especially so as a bed. The AVOD was good but the screen a bit smaller than I had expected. The fold away dinning table in is easily large enough for two to dine on comfortably with your companion seated on the large foot stool. The food, wine and service were all excellent, the service was especially good with an incredibly attentive crew who were always on hand if needed. Got a nice Bally amenity back with excellent toiletries plus a pair of slippers. Was offered PJ's but declined as it was a day time flight. As this flight arrives at 4pm local time it's slightly earlier than many other carriers, this allowed me to get through immigrations, collect my bags and clear customs in 20mins flat which is an all time record for me. Overall a great experience - would I pay £5k+ for it, probably not,.

DUB-ZRH-BKK in business. Dublin to Zurich onboard service was great. Friendly and efficient staff and proper meal and drinks (including champagne) were offered for a short haul flight. Zurich to Bangkok was good - crew friendly and courteous, although the service was not as quick due to the fact that the business class cabin was full. Also, food was not plentiful compared to other airlines.

Economy

HKG-ZRH-BHX return in economy. Short haul flight on Helvetic Fokker excellent - friendly, bubbly staff and very comfortable seats. Wish Swiss had the same seats on their A340's however. A truly awful experience. Most uncomfortable seats I have ever had on long haul. Very narrow, and AVOD box under seats effectively removes leg space for taller than average passenger. Flight attendants attend to routine duties efficiently, but press the call button for a drink of water in the middle of the night and you quickly become public enemy number one (Flight attendents disappeared for several hours after take off). Chaotic boarding of both long haul sectors. AVOD not working on return long haul. Bizarre schedule for meals on ZRH- HKG with a main meal being served just after take off at midnight, and nothing then for 11 hours until breakfast as you land at 1800 hours in Hong Kong. Does nothing to help the body adjust to the new time zone.

Economy

TLV-ZRH-LCY in economy. Check-in at TLV polite and quick. A330-200 was full in economy. Aisle seat 21B not the worst but legroom limited and felt very cramped with passenger in next seat. IFE not great as no AVOD, but films shown were good recent blockbusters. Decent hot breakfast served. Landed in ZRH on time, transfer quick and easy but B gate area for non-Shengen flights is very dull and unpleasant. ZRH-LCY on RJ100 excellent flight. Had to put hand luggage in hold upon boarding as was told it was too big for the plane, but didn't mind this as already had hold baggage. Window 4F spacious, leather seat. Served slightly stale chocolate croissant and a drink but no complaints for a short hop. Landing at LCY is great though baggage didn't arrive as quickly as hoped. Overall, A330 not highly recommended for longhaul but ZRH-LCY very convenient.

BKK-ZRH-MAD-ZRH-LAX. Both long and short haul flights a delight. Crew attentive and worked hard on all flights and regularly patrolling the aisles during those longer flights with drinks, snacks and ice cream! Great value for money on a RTW business fare. ZRH-MAD had the best scrambled eggs I've ever had in the air!

I saved some miles to make myself a treat and booked a trip from ZRH-ATH-ZRH in business over easter. Both flights were full. The service on both legs had a bitter taste. No pre take off drinks anymore. Only a bottle of still water was found on the seat (not in the seat pocket)on the way to ATH not on the back flight. No refreshing towel was handed out on the way to ATH but on the way back. The white wine was not cold (had to request for some Ice to cool it down). The young flight attendant was overstrained. The purser was not much help to her (to ATH). The food was very good and nicely presented. ZRH Airport is my favorite, as well the lounge. Check in in ZRH and ATH smooth. The lounge in ATH is shared with several airlines but nice and comfortable. I will fly Swiss again, but it seems that the young flight attendants are not well trained.

London to Cairo return via Zurich. All flights on time. I was given a free upgrade from Zurich to Cairo to Business. The meal service between London and Zurich could be more generous - just a sandwich and a drink. The inflight boxes on the floor on the Airbus A340 impedes legroom. Swiss lounges in Zurich are very nice.

LAX-ZRH-LAX.On-time departure and arrival. Cabin crew not very friendly. Seats very uncomfortable for a 10+ hour flight. Meals somewhat good. Zurich airport is excellent, I cannot say the same for Swiss airline.

Berlin TXL - Los Angeles via ZRH in Economy Class. Big fan of Zurich airport terminal and the clean, professional image and operations of Swiss. Aircraft clean and flights on time with consistent service - albeit not the warm grace of Asian flight attendants. Boxes under window seats inhibit leg room significantly, not acceptable for 12 hour flights. The main issue is with the noticeable reduction of Frequent Travelers/Silver Status customer benefits. As the years go by, it appears the status benefits are shrinking. No Silver status access to lounges in LAX, no Swiss/Star Alliance lounges at all in USA terminal of ZRH, no preferential seat assignment (ie keeping neighboring seat empty) or upgrading possibility for being a good customer - things that one could enjoy regularly several years ago. By adding on more extreme high-end levels (ie Hon Circle) to their spectrum, the LX/LH airline group is treating only the tiny top segment of their clients as special, and the rest gets herded in and out of their planes.
