Small, cramped seating - the edge of the seat was exactly 6 inches from the back of the seat in front! Unfriendly flight attendants on return flight from Denver to DFW. The weight for 'checked baggage' is only 40 lbs and you must pay for that and for a small carry on bag! If you do travel this airline and are at least 5'11 like me, be sure you upgrade and pay for the larger seats up front quickly! I think that's the only good thing I can say is that I sat in one to try it out upon exiting the plane and it was actually comfortable.

I flew round trip Phoenix/Mesa - Dallas for 3 days Thur-Sat late nights. I knew exactly what bag I needed to carry - and I did not have to pay a penny. I am 6'1" and 190 lb and I had no issue with the seat even with the long legs. I took non-peak hour flights ensuring low cost and definitely not packed flights. I slept on 3 seats in both flights. Most important - no delays. It was 2 hour flight and I do not care about water and eating for that duration. My conclusion - Its probably the cities that you fly in and out of that matter. Its important you know the rules and your needs and plan efficiently. The seat wont go back, so rest on the tray or rest your head on the front seat. I would definitely fly by them if the need arises.

Having never used Spirit I did not know what I was in for, when I booked a package deal to Las Vegas from Chicago. The experience was quite disappointing, but also educational. You get what you pay for. Actually the less you pay the worse is the value. If I would have booked a regular flight, with normal seats, clean lavatories, water and pretzels for free, I would have had to pay about $100 more. However, they would have let me have a piece of luggage for free, they would not charge me for a carry on and would not charge me for legroom per inch. Without further details, the worst if not the worst airline.

Unless you like spending your vacation in an airport, don't fly with Spirit! Spent 13 hours in the airport waiting for our flight going to FL and had very little time to catch our cruise ship. On the return flight, we were charged $45 per bag because of a glitch in their online bag check in and the manager said he was unable to help us! We waited 8 hours in the airport for the return flight.

Having flown Spirit in the past, my expectations were low, but apparently not low enough. Figured I could tolerate the expected dirty, cramped cattle call in exchange for convenient flight times and low fares. 10am flight to Ft. Lauderdale, 3 hours delayed, then delayed delay, then cancelled. Rebooked on 6pm flight and given $14 for food. After our rebooked flight was delayed, my husband, asked for another food voucher which was promptly denied! During the entire ordeal, not one apology, no hint of kindness or glimmer of compassion. Instead, the supervisor, with whom he asked to speak, reminded that we had already been given the food vouchers '$14 per person all we can do' and the delay was in fact 'for our safety'. 12 hours post original departure time, finally airborne heading to our one-day-less vacation and the pilot actually apologizes to the entire planeload of us for the excruciating delay explaining it was caused by someone not showing up for work in the morning!

My boyfriend and I flew Denver to Chicago a couple of weeks ago. We were ground delayed due to weather in Chicago however guests were able to leave the aircraft. They didn't close the door. They pilot keep us in the loop. We flew out a little late due to weather however we made it! Coming home was flawless. I will definitely fly Spirit Airlines again. The FA's were friendly and attentive. The pilot ran into weather heading back to Chicago and the flight wasn't as bad as some flights I have been on. I will definitely fly them again!

I bought a round trip ticket a week out from a trip to Dallas from Houston. Cost: $96. Surprise, a carryon has a fee of $50. But if I checked the carryon, I could pay a mere $45. I am now at the airport, waiting my return. The flight has been delayed (7.15 is now 8 pm) and I have now paid $90 for my luggage, with my clothing, toothbrush, et.al., to travel with me. The employees are sour, mean spirited, and have delivered the worst customer service ever! Not a screaming deal, rather a great deal of screaming.

Feb 4th 2013, Ft Lauderdale to Cancan, Flight 301. 5 hour delay. Scheduled to leave at 10.45, first delay to 12.40. Second delay 1.40 - more trouble with plane. Third delay, 2.40 - apparently we do not have a flight crew. For compensation they offer a $50 voucher on next flight but need to book it in 6 weeks. I have flown Spirit 4 times they have never been on time. I will never fly this airline again.

Flew LGA-FLL both ways on Spirit. Probably the closest thing to a 'Ryanair' equivalent I have yet encountered in the USA. On a positive note, no issues with oversize carryon items not being charged for and taken into the cabin filling the overhead bins, which has been the case with most other US based airlines. Also service on the ground at both LGA and FLL was reasonable. However, seats were extremely small and would be impossible for anyone over 6 ft to fly in the middle or window seats. Plane was an ageing Airbus A320 - not sure if it was reconditioned but strips around the lighting fell down after landing and evidence of duct tape being used to mask torn seats on the return leg. FAs reasonably polite, although the food that was offered seemed to sell out exceptionally quickly. All in all, far from the worst airline I have flown, but be under no illusion when buying the ticket. Any notion of flexibility of service should not be entertained, nor should anything beyond a spartan level of comfort be expected.

It was $73.90 for my airfare, from Las Vegas to Portland, OR. Great price until the mandatory add-ons start. There was a charge to check in, a charge for my second carry-on bag, a charge for my checked bag, and a charge to select my seat on the airplane. They even charged me $3 for some water during the flight. By the time I paid for my $73.90 flight, I had to spend another $85 for all the "extras" that are standard on other airlines. Plus the customer service was terrible. I will never fly Spirit again.

I flew from Minneapolis to Ft Myers and back and had a good experience. I knew ahead of time that I had to pay for my carry on and made sure I had a soda and snacks with me for the plane. Flights were on time and flight attendants were pleasant. I would fly with them again.

I just dropped my son off at the PHX Gateway airport for a trip to Houston via Dallas. 30 minutes after dropping him off, he called and said his flight was delayed due to weather in Chicago, but he should still be able to make his connection in Dallas. 10 minutes later, he called again and said it was now further delayed and he'd miss his Dallas connection and would have 24 hr wait for the next Houston flight. His plan was to be picked up in Houston and drive to New Orleans. He asked the ticket agent if he could get a flight from Dallas to New Orleans and was told there was no such flight on Spirit. I was online checking for a flight for him and there was indeed a Spirit flight from Dallas to New Orleans. When he told the ticket agent, the agent looked again and said "Oh, there it is". However, he was told that they couldn't book that ticket for him and that he'd have to do it online. He was also told that they could not route his bag PHX-Dallas-New Orleans and that he'd have to pick up his bag in Dallas and re-check it for the New Orleans flight. The ticket agent can't sell you a ticket and they can't transfer a bag on their own airline! Their rates might be cheaper, but if you can't get to where you need to go, it's no bargain.

I had delays on both my inbound and outbound flights. The Houston gate agent indicated that our connection in Dallas to Phoenix was being held for us (13 passengers) and if for any reason we didn't make that connection, they would provide us with hotel rooms for the night and we'd be booked on the 7.30 am flight to Phoenix. When we arrived in Dallas, not only had the PHX flight already left, but they would not provide hotel rooms as promised. Dallas staff were the rudest airline staff I've experienced. We then found out that the 7.30 am flight had a connection in Denver rather than going directly to PHX. We were not allowed to go past security into the warmer and more comfortable area. When I checked in for my flight the next morning, I asked the ticket agent to recheck my bag for the new flight and she said that "it was fine." Sure enough, when I finally landed in PHX, my bag was nowhere to be found. It was still in Dallas. I finally received it 32 hours later. Their standard answer for all delayed flights is "weather conditions". I recommend spending the extra money and fly an airline that knows something about customer service.

Worst airline experience I've had. On return flight from St. Martin to Minneapolis, connecting flight from Ft. Lauderdale to MSP was cancelled because crew didn't show. Took them 4 hours to rebook me on a flight the next morning connecting through Chicago. Flight to Chicago was also cancelled because crew didn't show and again it took them 4 hours to rebook me on another carrier that left 12 hours later. Was stuck in Ft. Lauderdale for 36 hours. While waiting to rebook, agent, supervisor and manager kept telling me they only have 2 staff working on rebooking and that I was next or they were working on mine. I requested $100 in compensation, my request was denied.

We were scheduled to fly out of Niagara NY on Jan 27 at 2am. We drove 6 hours to catch this flight, when we got there we were told the flight was cancelled due to the pilot being sick. I am aware that these things happen. It was how they handled it that I am not happy with, we were told they would not put us up in a hotel room and we were told they were doing us a favor by not charging us to re-book us on the next flight out. I will never fly this airline again.

Don't fly unless you don't mind last minute charges. My luggage cost more to fly than my ticket for me did. Unscrupulous practices at the airport once you get there if you are not prepared ahead of time. Extorted by the kiosk for more money to take a bag on board. I am trying to talk to customer service but they just put me on hold and say there is nothing they can do. I can't afford to fly my luggage back at this point.

Paid for my bags ahead of time. I was the 3rd row to be served drinks. I ordered two scotches, the passenger next to me ordered two also. That was it, we cleaned them out. The plane only has one lavatory for 145 seats. Do yourself a favor and bring your own drinks onboard. A coke is $2, but is complimentary if you buy 2 bottles of liquor. They have a menu that reminds me of a Waffle House menu. You can even get a cup of noodles and a soft drink for what I think was $4. Outside of the price of the soft drinks, their food prices were consistent with other airlines. The leg room was the worst I've experienced. I'm 6' tall and my knees were in the back of the set in front of me, I couldn't get away from it. And at one point I dropped something on the floor and I couldn't reach it on the floor. If you're more than 5'3", spend a little extra cash and go to another airline. I know I've flown them for the last time.

Get what you pay for. Flight from Las Vegas to Houston was cancelled. Rebooked 24 hours later. Was told that was the best they could do. Called customer service to confirm the rebooking but the agent could not find my reservation.

My flight from Fort Lauderdale on February 2, 2013 was cancelled due to staffing issues. Another flight was also cancelled to Tampa for the same reason. I stood in line with at least 300 other customers for at least 3 hours for rebooking. I was shuttled to a hotel for the night, and was told that the shuttle would be no charge. The hotel did not start shuttle service unit 8 am and I needed to be at the airport for a 7.30 flight. The hotel added a shuttle at 5 am but I was charged $10. I then was flown to Philadelphia, and then to my destination in Minneapolis via US airlines. I was lead to believe that my food vouchers would be honored at the hotel, but my hotel did not have food availability. I felt the Spirit airplane was generally unclean and very cramped. I would not recommend Spirit Airlines, even with the lower rates offered. I feel that if Spirit Airline schedules flights they should have adequate staff to fulfil the flights. I really felt sorry for the very elderly and young families.

It cost us $1300 to fly Minneapolis-Las Vegas round trip. $1300 for an uncomfortable, no carry-on bag, surly flight attendants, late flights, etc. what a deal! We had to change our initial flight because our plans changed and we needed to get there a day early, that flight was 3 hours late leaving, then when we tried to return home were told our tickets were cancelled because we made that initial change. The plane was only 1/2 full but they made us buy 2 more tickets to use our seats that we'd paid for a month earlier. Couldn't even get a free glass of water. When a PA announcement came on as we were descending "thanks for flying Spirit and we hope to have you fly with us again" you could hear a plane-full of passengers laughing.
