Manchester-Arlanda return Economy B737. On time in both directions despite ATC delays at Manchester,
30 mins outbound, unspecified inbound. Pasta meal for purchase in economy - a recent introduction, I
believe - is a much better deal than the indestructible sandwiches.

Oslo Gardermoen to Stockholm Arlanda in economy. Got charged a small fortune for 11kg excess luggage
- went on to fly on another airline and same luggage weighted a whole 7kg less - ripped off by SAS
big time! Flight delayed due to check in computer system failing and waited 1.5 hours to bag drop.
Plane nice and new but very cold all flight and staff not friendly. Overall very average and I hope
I dont have to fly with them again!

LED-Copenhagen-Chicago Business. From LED to Copenhagen - really nothing special. Small , bad food.
Copenhagen-Chicago everything that you expect from Business-class. Food and drinks just like a
good restaurant, great seats with massage function, choice of movies. Fly attendants professional
and helpful. Another story on way back. This time I flew via Stockholm with Swedish staff.
The chair didn't work properly, food was boring and flight attendants didn't pay proper "business-
class" attention. They made me feel almost ashame that I got out of average level and bought
business-class ticket. One airline - and such a difference in class!

CPH-SEA in business. Check-in was fast and efficient. Business and economy-extra boarded the plane
first. Welcomed by friendly staff, jacket taken and offered champagne. Menus, noise-cancelling
headsets, duvets and comfort-kits. The dinner, 4 options for main-course, was tasty. IFE was on-
demand and very good, the seat was angled lie-flat and comfortable. Second meal of open sandwiches.
When I was finished with customs at Seattle Airport, my baggage was waiting for me at the baggage-
delivery.

EWR- ARN return - a 3 star airline. Checked in early online and scored first row behind econ-plus
so an extra inch or two for my legs. Food a disappointment, especially from EWR, but they made up
for it with 3 rounds of free drinks which is good considering by the book it was only supposed to be
one drink with the meal in economy. During the night cabin crew made several passes with water and
apple juice which was appreciated.

Copenhagen to Poznan. Felt like a low-cost airline flight, only differences were small plane,
assigned seating and no extra costs for check-in or hold luggage. Otherwise, a typical SAS less-is-
more-attitude flight in a Maersk Air Regional Jet. Delayed about 90 minutes because aircraft went
tech. Seating very cramped. No passengers bought anything from the buy-on-board service. I chose
this flight just because the ticket was cheap (approx. 65 €) - normally the tickets on this route
are much more expensive.

Gatwick to Aalesund return. First time using SAS in many years, long gone are days of SAS being a
full service airline, but not yet as bad as full low cost airlines. checkin was quick, plane fairly
new Boeing. On way out was asked for choice of window or Isle seat, and people spread over the
plane. On return, all passengers cramped in the back no spare middle seats but lots of spare rows in
the middle section, which I understand is for premium economy (no difference in the actual seat or
indication of class change) Food is chargable and not bad value compared to other airlines and very
good value compared to airport prices in Norway. All flights arrived on time or early.

16 December 2007 Customer Trip Rating :
This airline offers fast auto check-in and bag drop, but good luck getting any other service beyond
that. We asked about changing seats (possibly upgrading from economy, and yes, we were offering to
pay) at the ticket counter, but were told to ask the staff at the gates for help with that. So we go
through security and all that, only to be told at the gate that we should have asked about that at
the counter. When we pointed out that we were told precisely the opposite earlier, we were just told
that they couldn't do anything about it. Nice. So, our flight was essentially a nursery, which isn't
anyone's fault, but the entire section we were seated in was stunned that the flight attendants
didn't seem to care on bit that about three toddlers were sprinting laps (I'm in no way overstating
this) around the plane. We finally asked one flight attendant to please ask the parents (who knows
where they were) to keep an eye on their little track stars and only then did they seem to notice
that the children were running around even when the seat belt sign was on. And oh, the food. I'm a
vegetarian, and my boyfriend is not. I'd requested a veggie meal (which, for some reason, you have
to confirm 24 hours before the flight), which worked out okay during dinner -- for once. This time,
it was pasta with mushrooms. Ordinarily, SAS has by far, the worst veggie food ever. Vegetable
steamed to within an inch of their being, mushy rice and totally flavorless red sauce tends to be
the standard meal (I've had the misfortune of flying with them more than once, never by choice,
always for work, etc.). I never get dessert thought. Always some lame fruit cup, the sort where all
the fruit tastes the same and has long lost any hint of texture. For breakfast, though, I was
stunned to see that everyone got warm veggie panini wraps and I got a half sandwich of some
indescribable "spread" -- tasted like saw dust mixed with butter -- and shredded carrots.
As miffed as I was, I felt worse for the young mother flying with a baby that couldn't have been
more than 2 months old. She'd made her reservations in October and had requested a crib. Only when
she got on board, she was told that "Sorry, but the cribs were taken." She asked, "So, I'm I
supposed to just hold her the entire flight?" (that would be 9.5 hours) To which the flight
attendant responded, "Yes. It's very difficult." The mom kicked up a fuss (good for her) and was
finally moved to a row with two empty seats, so she could at least put her baby down.
I can honestly say that I'll never fly SAS if I have a choice in the matter.

CPH-FCO-CPH in Economy. SAS subcontracted these scheduled flights to a company called Jetex. The
outward trip to Rome was, from the very early morning, shown as delayed by one-and-a-half hours.
When the later flight time came and went, SAS had to substitute an old MD-80. (Little did we know at
the time that this substitute plane would be a luxury compared to the cattle-transport supplied for
the return trip.) Arrived at FCO nearly 2 hours late. For the return flight Jetex supplied a 737
with the smallest seat pitch I have ever experienced, and the on-board service was almost non-
existent. To sum up, the only good thing about these flights were the views of the Alps.

LHR-ARN-LHR Good return trip with minimal delay (apart from usual queue to take off at Heathrow).
On-line checkin from Heathrow doesn't actually get you a boarding card, so still have to go the
counters anyhow - but it least it meant a decent seat. Was in Economy, so had to pay for
refreshments - which I didn't object to as much as usual as their coffee is the best I've had on any
airline.

ORD-CPH and CPH-SEA in Economy Extra at the end of October. Pleasant experience overall, wider

negative points were IFE (on-demand in Economy Extra) was buggy, and while salmon on the outbound
flight was OK, the chicken with mashed potato on the return flight was a little sad. Would fly again.

LHR-Stockhom-Kiruna return. First time with SAS, agree with comments about very old MD80s. We
experienced no real flight delays and service was ok. I would compare to a budget airline as I did not
like having to pay for inflight meal. Flights to Kiruna all economy and had more of a holiday feel. We
sat front row on one leg and of course had lots of leg room.Very surprised at the general age of the
FA as most appeared to be over 50, which is something you dont see very often nowadays.

Oslo-Stockholm-Vaasa late evening flight in Premium Economy. Used the internet check-in in the morning
and got my favorite seat. While on the way to the airport, I got an SMS with the info that the plane
is delayed by 30 min. So I decided not to check-in my trolley but to take it on board to make sure it
makes the connection. Got two more SMS with each adding 30 min delay. Funny thing: I got the message
earlier than the monitor at the gate showed the updated delay. Flight finally left with 90 min delay
due to earlier delays summing up that day. Old and tired MD 81 which was not clean due to the short
turnover time. Crew did their job. Not more and not less. Usual SAS snack with an open faced sandwich
in much plastic wrapping and a plastic box. Passengers missing their connection were asked to contact
the arrival desk at Stockholm airport. They had already printed out the confirmation for the changed
onward journey and a hotel voucher for the airport hotel. Everything went appropriate without any
discussions.

ORD-ARN-ORD: upgraded to premium economy on outbound flight. Staff attentive and pleasant. Seats were
comfortable, food service was mediocre. IFE and AVOD was excellent. Return flight in economy, food was
not appetizing. Legroom was very cramped and no AVOD in economy, they definitely need to upgrade that
feature, it was quite nice in the premium cabin. SAS was decent, but substandard as far as european
carriers go, but quite on par with the US carriers.

DUB-CPH. Plane clean, Staff pleasant but after three flights on this leg this year, fed up with the
pathetic and limited food options (which we pay for) never fully available. Lost my bag in Copenhagen.
I know this site is not about baggage but my complaint is customer services. Their baggage service
number is impossible to reach. I try twice a day and wait for half an hour before getting cut off
(average time 30 minutes). The general customer service phone desk is polite but unhelpful ("They are
very busy"). Today that number's answering machine told me to call back tomorrow due to ‘internal
meetings’. What a fiasco. They should be ashamed.

LIN-CPH. Rather old MD 82 showing its age. SAS, for some reason, still operates with these old
aircraft while everybody else seems to have moved on to Airbus or Boeing. Interior looked shabby and
in need of renewal. Staff fine and friendly, not only onboard but also at the check-in. Bought a
breakfast box containing sandwich, yoghurt, orange juice and coffee with free refills for 6 euro,
which I found to be good value. In general about SAS you can say that if you manage to pick up the
cheap tickets by booking well in advance, you get a good value-for-money product. But if you book in
the last possible moment, the level of service lets down the price of the ticket very badly.

Rome-Copenhagen, Premium Economy. Good service. Onboard staff coped well with a group of Italians who
would not sit down, or keep quiet, to be counted and we risked missing our departure slot. On arrival,
discovered luggage of half a dozen passengers still in Rome. Avoid Rome Leonardo da Vinci airport like
the plague. Copenhagen-London (Heathrow), also good, but seats hard and windows very dirty. Although
my flight was on time, it seems to have been a surprise to the BAA and we had to wait 15 minutes for
stairs and buses to take us to Terminal 3. It is sad that a good service was spoiled at London, for
reasons beyond the control of SAS.

LHR-ARN return economy, on rather elderly MD81. These aircraft are fine
if you sit near the front, but at the back it's very noisy and vibrates
all the time. The service is equivalent to a low cost carrier - you have
to pay for everything, and although you do get allocated seats, the
machine at check in does not offer any choice. The flight was late in
both directions but this was due to problems at LHR, so not SAS's fault,
and they kept us informed OK. Overall no major complaints but was very
expensive given the low cost style service. In future I wouldn't pay a
penny more to go on SAS than on a low cost carrier.

CPH-PEK Premium Economy. I normally fly this route with Lufthansa on
Business Class. But all carriers going to Beijing was sold out on
Business so the only option was SAS Premium Economy. The normal Biz fare
with SAS is 3500 euros (expensive, but at least Sleeper seats). CPH to
PEK and return, but the lady said this one is just as good, and is only
2800 euros. It is NOT the same, it is simply economy with a foot rest
but more cramped and with economy food to business price! Also, the SAS
policy is one drink for free and the rest you pay for - if I pay 2800
euros for a 9 hour flight I expect to get my Coke for free - not here.
I am also a Goldmember of SAS programme and try to be loyal, but their
general policy is to get as much money out of you as possible and
provide no service.

MAN-ARN; ARN-LHR in economy. Both absolutely full - ran to time outbound
but ATC delays into LHR followed by a long wait outside T3 for a gate,
then a long wait for the airbridge, then a long wait for passport
control. What an awful place LHR is! Paid for food service very slow and
the process of taking orders, dispensing food/drink/recording the
sale/sorting out money/cc, issuing receipt is very cumbersome. If it was
a train buffet run by SAS they'd never get to the end of the queue
before you got to yr destination! Main reason is over-provision of FAs
to business/economy extra, and a reluctance of that staff to help in the
back cabin. SAS really need to get a grip of what is becoming a fairly
down-market in-flight service, for which in the absence of competition
from MAN they're charging quite heavily.

Do not fly SAS from the US to Europe connecting via Copenhagen with less
then 2 hours connection time - the change they your luggage will miss
your connecting flight is more then 50%! The next problem with
Copenhagen is that it seams like they are leaving all the delayed
luggage to the "night crew" because they almost never get the luggage
out until the next day so you have to wait 24-36 hours before you have
your luggage within Europe. The problems at Copenhagen has been going on
for years and is an "official" secret (ask at the lost luggage desks at
major European airports) but SAS is doing nothing. They still sell 1
hour connections even that they know that a lot of the luggage will not
make the connection. After flying SAS from US to Europe 6-7 times a year
for the last 10 years I have now given up. My personal experience over
the last two years are that they have only managed to get the luggage on
the connecting flight 2 out of 10 times.

ZRH to HEL via ARN and back via CPH in economy. Intra Nordics are flown
by Blue1, a LCC of SK. Overall, the experience is nothing to write home
about. Absolutely no food or drinks for free, even if the flight time is
over 2 hours as ZRH to ARN. Cabin staff, depending on their daily mood,
from welcoming and even charming to rather rude. Flight from ARN to HEL
was particularly bad as overbooked and boarding delayed by 30 minutes as
first some volunteers had to be found to stay overnight in ARN, against
free hotel and Euro 300 in vouchers. The rather poor ground staff of SK
or their handling agents adds to the very mediocre experience. Only
exception in HEL as nice gate-staff available. Each of the 4 flights
departed late and 3 arrived also late, making connections a hassle. Not
once we got an information from ground-staff about it and once inflight
crew told us that late departure was due to catering, despite arrival of
aircraft was 10 minutes before etd. SAS has really become a low cost
operation in Europe and I would wish they would at least come back on
some Star Alliance levels.

PEK-CPH Economy Class, no thrills no nothing. No choice of food, points
ridicoulus low, observe that you don't get per mileage/kilometers, it is

OSL-CPH-OSL in Economy. Used this flight to connect to SQ from
Copenhagen to Kuala Lumpur. A world of difference. Now even this route
has been stripped of its service. Where you notice it most is
transferring from Singapore Airlines directly onto SAS - like day and
night. Why are SAS staff so discontented? If they are so discontented,
then why don't the poor souls get another job and get their quality of
life up to a new level? Just don't take it out on the passengers.
Luckily I flew before the illegal strikes began, but then we are used to
those. They happen. What is more unacceptable is the lack of service
for the price you pay. If you are going to be a LCC, then make your
prices reflect that. Don't be a wolf in sheep's clothing. And even
then, I have flown with LCCs in Asia, Australia and USA - and the big
difference is that their Cabin Crew know how to smile. How much effort
does it take??

Flying up to Copenhagen from Munichl. I was impressed with the efficient
and friendly cabin staff. However that was the end of it. Just before I
was due to board SK1221 to Aalborg the wildcat strikes began and my
flight was cancelled. That was the first time I hear the dreaded words
"Transfer Centre" As more and more flight were cancelled 2000 people
queued for hours after picking a number without hope of talking to
anyone or getting any information. Finally at midnight it was announced
you will all have to sleep in the airport all hotels are full and no
more flights will leave Copenhagen. I took the midnight train to Aalborg
in only the clothes I stood up in. Now 5 days later I still have not
been able to talk to anyone at SAS about my luggage nor have I been
approached by them, just an answer machine. I'm wondering if I will ever
get my luggage back at all. Do SAS care? Well they don't appear to.

ARN-FRA-ARN in economy. The only positive thing was that both flights
were on schedule. As usual I flew in an old MD80 with even older seats.
Cabin crew was unsmiling and very mature: where is the glamour of

same no-frills service, ie. sandwiches and drinks are for purchase only.
To put it short, I thought I were flying with Ryanair. But the latter

LHR-ARN-LHR. Older but comfortable aircraft. Friendliness and
professionalism of flight attendants excellent. Despite the product in
economy now being food & drink for purchase, if you buy a coffee (as I
did) the crew come through the cabin again to give you a refill. On
both legs I also requested a cup of water which was given for free from
the galley. My flight on SAS to stockholm was around the same price as
the low cost airlines I checked. I would fly them again.

SAS business class Copenhagen to Tokyo. The seats were last generation
type and uncomfortable. To make matters worse the system broke down
with seats frozen in position and no IFE for about 3 hours. The food
was uninspiring. All of this would have been bearable if it were not
for the cabin crew who sour and lazy. I asked for a newspaper and was
told in a tone that indicated the speaker thought she was addressing an
imbecile " hey were in front of the door as you were boarding" - this
was business class! When I gave up and asked for a magazine I was told,
again in an exasperated manner that " They are in the front of the
cabin. You can get one yourself". That was as polite as the staff got.

MAN-ARN return. B737-600 Economy. Very busy in both directions but
punctual flights. Pay-for-refreshments OK, but service very slow. Could
do without the Scandinavian quasi-egalitarianism that insists on telling
the whole plane what Business and Economy Flex passengers are getting to
eat! Internet check in worked OK outbound, but gave confusing messages
about being wait-listed homebound. In actual fact I wasn't but my seat
was - according to the Co travel agent's discussion with SAS. I would
have thought that passenger and seat go together, but there you go. In
reality Internet check-in only gives you an earlier sequence number at
ARN, you still have to go through the self check-in machines and then
bag-drop. At least they have the honesty not to call it fast bag-drop at
ARN - it was painfully slow.

ARN-CDG in Economy class. Five years ago SAS was one of the best
airlines, now it is one of the worst. The aircraft was an old MD80 with
very worn seats. The typical SAS 3-class-configuration resulted in rows
1-15 being empty and rows 16-30 being fully packed, it is quite
ridiculous. On this 2hr40mins flight nothing is for free, not even
water. And do not be fooled by their so-called low prices at 650SEK per
one-way: it is nearly impossible to get them!

LHR-CPH return, one way economy, the other economy flex. Easy checkin
at Heathrow with self service and excellent lounge at terminal 3.
Pleasant enough flight on MD80, but noticed how warm and noisy it in at
the back with the rear mounted engines, and quieter up the front.
Service friendly and adequate for 2hr flight. Long wait for bags at
Copenhagen. Returning CPH-LHR with chaotic checkin, e ticket wasnt
recognised at selfservice checkin so had 10 minute queue at Star Gold
checkin (separate from business class), followed by 5 minutes at Fastrak
security. CPH SAS lounge is expansive and a delight, but range of
food/drink for morning is rather poor. Gate was a long long walk from
lounge though, easily 10 minutes. Economy flex service fine, with
adequate cold breakfast in a box with sandwich, cereal, yoghurt and
regular coffee. Perfectly good alternative to more expensive intra-
european business class options. Very long wait at LHR for luggage as is
usual at Terminal 3, though priority luggage was off first. Better SAS
experience than I had last year, crews and staff overall seem happier
and more confident, but CPH in the morning weekday rush is a mess
landside.

Departed Heathrow 50 mins late as aircraft APU was faulty. Had to run
through most of Copenhagen Airport to make connecting flight to
Stockholm Arlanda. This aircraft was over 30 mins late also. Get to
Arlanda to find baggage missing, not good as most of cold weather kit
was in the bag. What should have been 2hr wait for connecting flight to
Kiruna turned into yet another sprint to make the gate. Returning the
flight from Kiruna was 25 mins late in leaving. As there was originally
only 45 mins to make connecting flight to London City it as going to be
tight. The delay made for yet another breakneck dash to the gate only to
find that SAS had cancelled the flight due to 'technical reasons'. So a
delay of 2 hrs and a divert to Heathrow didn't help. No surprise when
this flight was late in leaving Arlanda. Finally arrived home 4 hours
later than planned and extra expense incurred in making alternative
arrangements. They say first impressions last. Sorry SAS but in future i
will avoid you like the plague and ensure any friends intending to
travel with you are made aware of the airline for whom punctuality is a
dirty word.

was disappointing. No snacks or drinks are free on short-haul flights.
FA's weren't really friendly.
SAS Scandinavian review - by S Arnold
26 January 2007
Dublin-Copenhagen-Bangkok return. Luggage lost for 6 days. Had to keep
contacting airport about bags, told a different story every time we
asked where it was. Had to get a taxi out to the airline offices (1
hour) to collect 100 dollars to buy clothes and replace essentials. When
we contacted the office in London, they didn't want to know about it.
After months of fighting we eventually were offered 53 euro and 2
bottles of wine, which we turned down. I think it was possibly the worst
airline I have ever travelled with.
