Melbourne-Perth-Broome. The first leg a B767, and to Broome in a QantaslLink B717. Apart from a rather chaotic bagdrop in Melbourne (due to too few bag drop desks being open), the journey was very smooth, with reasonable food and service all the way.

MEL-AKL-LAX Economy. Both trips were very average. Outbound old B747-400 (20 years old) for this transpacific route. The food was very average. Inbound Qantas refused to let me select seat at booking, or prior to check in (called a few times). Even though I checked in online 23 hours prior, the only (one) seat available to "select" was a middle seat next to the toilets. At the gate they reassigned me another middle seat, next to 5 crying babies. Full flight. Imagine flying 18 hours in a middle seat. Departure was delayed 90 minutes. AVOD was down the whole time, although a few movies were still available. Food was average, and I had the pleasure to see their signature salad again. No amenity kit. Despite being an overnight flight (depart LA at 2345), they didn't have eye-mask in stock either. With the new schedule the stopover in AKL (Auckland, NZ) for QF26 is now 5.5 hours. Qantas used a 19-year-old 747-400 for LAX-AKL leg in this new schedule, and an old 737-400 for AKL-MEL, with no in seat TV screen.

HNL-SYD Business Class. Superb service, food and drinks - crew were exceptional and went out of their way to ensure everyone enjoyed their trip. Only downside was the 767 rattler operating the service - the now outdated Dreamtime seats have seen much better days. Fortunately this was a daylight service and sleep wasn't really necessary. 10 hours overnight on this aircraft would be a nightmare.

Sydney to London and back on the new A380. I noticed a step up from the 747 in terms on the cabin, staff etc. I flew there in Business, and was surprised by how much better the Skybed is now. I used points to upgrade to First coming back, and despite the cabin being nicer, bigger seats etc, I was a little disappointed with the lack of difference to Business. It struck me as the same sort of upgrade you get going from Economy to Premium Economy. I wouldn't pay the extra, but for the points it was worth the experience.

SYD-HKG Business Class 747-400- Check-in was a mess with huge waiting lines for economy and Business class check-in not much better. Lounge was ok but a little packed and a number of tables having used plates and glasses left behind. Priority boarding worked well and flight left on time. Service onboard was pretty good, at least this time the cabin crew smiled and were interested to help you out. Meals were edible. Did not watch any movies but there seemed to be a good selection on offer. Not exactly value for money, however it was a good flight. I am often reluctant to purchase Business class fares with QF as it is so hit and miss.

Sydney to Los Angeles return. I have not flown long haul to the US for several years so was interested in what QF service was like now. After travelling with them this time, I would not fly with them again. The flight over was full and I was seated in second to last row. I was extremely uncomfortable as my legs were hitting the chair in front the entire flight. I ordered a special meal which was very average. It was exactly the same on the return flight.

Business Class on the new A380 SYD-LHR and the best Business Class experience I have had. I Check in marvellous at SYD airport, a friendly welcome on board. Inflight service was first- rate, meals were good, wine options very nice and I caught up on a few movies I was keen to see. A fully flat bed at around 200cm is great. I like the self-serve bar area and the lounge area as a place to stretch your legs and sit somewhere different. I am glad my company pays for the flight as I couldn't afford it.

I am so frustrated with Qantas. I have been trying to get my change of address recorded against my frequent flyer membership, but over the years during three moves of address I have lost my pin number. I have tried phoning Qantas in Hong Kong where I live, I have tried online, but there is always a problem, the Hong Kong office tried but they couldn't get into the computer, and I even tried phoning the Frequent Flier office in Australia several times, but they were always engaged. I can't find out what points I have accumulated without the pin number. I don't know what else to try.

Broome-Perth-Melbourne. 737-800 BME-PER aircraft in good condition. Cant say much for Legroom, At 6.4" Knees were digging into the seat infront of me all flight. Flight was 100% full Per-Mel was on a A330-200 was very good flight. managed to get an Emergency row which was great for legroom. I always fly Qantas as they are friendly and offer the best flight times for me.

MEL-LAX. I was booked in premium economy however as the cabin wasn’t operating on this leg I was upgraded to business class – Seated on the upper deck. The experience was good. Loved the PJ’s and amenity kits. The meal was excellent. The cabin crew seem disinterested in the passengers. Skybed on the 747 very hard, and you could really feel the bars in it. The angle also felt strange (like slipping off the bed) – having said that I was on a free upgrade so wasn’t complaining. The IFE didn’t have as many options as I’d expected. Overall for a free upgrade I was happy with the flight, although if I had have been a full paying customer I would have been disappointed with the level of service.

LAX-SYD. After my free upgrade to business on the outward trip I was dreading the return in Economy on the way home. However the A380 surprised me as to the level of comfort and service it provided. I was seated in almost the last row of economy however found the seat to be really comfortable, recline excellent and comfortable. The overhead bids (and air vents) are quite high and I had to unbuckle to reach them. IFE was much better than on the 747 with much more content. The service by crew was excellent. Hot towels provided after take off, followed by a few beers with the meal. After meals were taken away the cabin was dimmed for sleep and provided with little snack bags which contained water, fruit snacks, cookies, peppermints and other little snacks. The self service snack bar was great - a nice place for people to have a chat, stretch your legs and grab a snack/soft drink. Flight slightly delayed out of LAX, but we got into SYD pretty much on time. I was able to get about the same amount of sleep as I did in business. The crew were fantastic and very eager to assist everyone. The service across the full length of the flight was consistently excellent.

Perth to Broome return. Lunch on first flight was tasteless and the hot dinner on the return flight was a lukewarm & awful. You have to pay for drinks on QF so you actually just end up paying a premium for some very average food. A couple of the FAs were pleasant, others quite abrupt and having a bad day. Hard to recommend QF on these flights.

LHR-SIN and back. Never really had a bad experience with Qantas always depart and land on time. Good entertainment for a 12 hr flight though not as on par with SQ. FA seldom made snack rounds and the only snacks will be the snack bag and it is puny. Just a bottle of water, cookies and an apple. Qantas is a much cheaper alternative to SQ. Qantas does lives up to its four star ranking (no hot towels before taking off or any amenity bags provided.)

AKL-WLG : flight time 40 minutes but a full service was provided including headphones for the overhead IFE, sandwiches and a choice of drinks including wine or beer. This was seriously good value for money at £27.

HKG-PER-HKG. Both flights excellent. QF now use their A330s between HKG and PER and the Skybed allowed for an excellent sleep on the overnight sector. Food and beverage of usual high quality. The crew on both sectors were outstanding - normally there's at least one member with bad attitude.

ADL-BNE one way in economy. Full flight and could not get emergency exit which makes any flight longer than 1 hour very painful as I am 6'7" tall. B737-800 in very good condition. Very fortunate to have one of the only vacant middle seats next to me. Still my knees had various painful encounters with the carts used for serving breakfast and drinks. Staff very apologetic each time and very pleasant. Breakfast service good and free coffee/tea served. Morning news shown on the overhead monitors as well as an episode of some comedy. Will continue to fly QF as long as they are competitive but prefer DJ if they fly an Embraer 190 on the same route.
