MEL-LHR First. Curbside check in efficient, but can be busy. The express lane available thru immigration is excellent, and new lounge is spacious but a tad bland for my liking, spa services appear to be good. The preflight dining option is mainly pasta, risottos and steak sandwiches. Onboard, service was good. The wines are excellent and menu available is well organized. The cabin is old, seats smaller than the competition. The entertainment worked well, but very small screens. Overall, excellent food, wine and service, old tired cabin and features.

SYD to SFO in First Class - my first experience of Qantas First and overall enjoyable one mainly due to friendly and attentive cabin staff. Check in fast and smooth as was security clearance and the new First Lounge in Sydney is spacious - great views of the Sydney city skyline. Found the Concierge a little condescending as was the Receptionist at the Spa - however the rest of the staff in the lounge were very friendly. Food menu was extensive and appealing and the service excellent. Internet facilities also excellent. My first impression of First Class cabin that it is looking tired and in need of an update - as are the narrow seats and the small videos monitors. Found the seat better in recline mode than in sleep mode - it was too narrow at the shoulders to get comfortable. It was also lacking in storage space. Food choice excellent as was food itself - both dinner and breakfast. IFE had an excellent choice but let down by the small screens. Pathetic amenity kit - as seems to now be the norm on most airlines - but comfy pyjamas! All is all a very pleasant flight - helped by there only being 4 of us in First Class. First off the plane and no queues at all in Immigration.

BNE-SYD. Flight arrived late and the boarding and departure were delayed although no announcements were heard. Crew were slightly older but seemed fresh and keen. You get the seat back entertainment and a snack going down and free drinks. Note this was the cheapest economy seat advertised for this day within a week out of departure date. Perhaps a good flight if you aren't in a hurry to get there given that you have to clear all rigmarole of international departures (including the 100mL fluid rule) and the plane has to come in from LAX unload and go again.

BNE–DRW Economy. The original plane developed a fault which couldn’t be repaired quickly. A replacement plane (767-300LR) was eventually found and we departed 3½ hours late for Darwin. There were plenty of updates issued to keep passengers informed but unlike the UK no vouchers for refreshments were issued. Once on way meal served was breakfast despite it being the early afternoon as they were unable to replace the planned meal. FA’s friendly and came around offering drinks several times in addition to the meal. To compound everything on arrival we then had to wait on- board for 45 minutes for an approaching storm to pass before the ground crew could come out to enable us to disembark.

BNE-HKG old B763, seat fabric dirty, cabin crew very slow to answer passenger call button. Food was good for economy class and drink rounds adequate. No PTV on this aircraft. HKG-BNE new A333 clean. Cabin service good and staff eager to attend to passenger needs. Again, food was adequate for economy class. I have supported Qantas by travelling with them whenever possible. However, over time their service has not kept pace with other international airlines. In future, I will be using other international carriers in preference to Qantas. All flights were on time.

MEL-HKG return First Class. From kerbside check-in in Melbourne, escort through Customs, to the dedicated First lounge at Melbourne Airport, to comfort and service onboard, and attentive staff everything went smoothly. The food and wines are superb, seat comfort exemplary. AVOD screens are smaller than on some other carriers, but perfectly clear. Luggage - including skis - arrived without problem and Qantas really made the travel experience as painless as is possible.

Brisbane to Los Angeles in Economy Class and Los Angeles to New York. Was pleasantly surprised. Seat had the new designs and were more comfortable than older seats. AVOD entertainment system is now as good as other airlines with a huge selection. The food was pretty good for economy. Also handed a "snack on Q" bag to keep you going between meals. They handed out ice creams after meals and also served hot chocolate to those who wanted. There were drink runs throughout the cabin every 2 hours. Some of the cabin attendants also greeted me personally by my surname - again most impressed for an economy cabin.

SYD-HKG in Business Class. Check in at SYD a joke - 40 mins to check in about 10 people. Business Class lounge in SYD is undergoing renovation, however it is inadequate for the amount of traffic passing through. Very few seats available and a small selection of food. Once boarded, the flight was good - food excellent and tailored to the route and the service was efficient, if a little cold. Seats in business the usual angled seats which are fine for this day flight. IFE excellent.

PER-MEL. 767-300 in business class. Seat 3A was OK. Crew in business great. Had a broken foot due to motorcycle accident and a golf buggy was waiting for me on arrival to take me into the terminal. Service was second to none. Dinner service excellent and food quite good and drinks flowed freely. Best flight I've had in a long while.

Transferred to a Qantas flight from HKG to Heathrow as Cathay Pacific had given our seats to someone else due to a Cathay Pacific delayed flight the day before. Seat pitch was OK. Got a breakfast about an hour into the flight. Thereafter only one offer of a cold drink. No bar service. No duty free service. Next meal about an hour before we landed - this was a 12.5 hour flight - then sat 45 minutes waiting for a coffee and for our trays to be moved (difficult to get out to get to the loo with the tray there). I was informed they were 2 staff short - but there seemed to have been plenty of service in business class. My seat was broken, our call buttons weren't working so we had to get up and go and find an attendant - hardly saw one in economy for whole flight.

SYD-SIN-FRA Economy. Flight delayed leaving Sydney at the last minute although no mention was made in the First Class lounge - which was a great experience. Got front row of Economy on the two class 747 which provided plenty of legroom after upgrade attempt failed. Staff and service was very impressive. Q snack packs excellent. Arrived in Frankfurt on time, excellent experience overall.

2 round trips MEL/SYD with morning outbound, evening return. Printed boarding passes at home. Overall it would be hard to find fault . Staff efficient and friendly, aircraft clean and economy seating quite acceptable. Appropriate catering for the time of day including complimentary wine on evening flights. Compared to flying in the U S domestic, Qantas provides a very high standard of customer service.

Brisbane - Los Angeles & Los Angeles - Sydney - Brisbane. QF business class as good as expected, with the bonus of QF offering the First class cabin on some Brisbane - LAX flights. I ended up in 3A which was a first class seat on the way over. Great for business, but slightly out-dated if sold as a first class seat. Service great, food not as good as I expected, but the alcohol flowed freely. The return flight was via Sydney and I was in the downstairs business class zone. Again, service was great, but food particularly average in both presentation and taste. QF lounge used for this flight (American Airlines) was particularly poor with the offering of just 2 vouchers for complementary drinks. The domestic flight Sydney to Brisbane in business was nothing more than what you would expect for a 1:20 flight. The only problem is that the QF transfer area in Sydney gets very busy around 7am in the mornings with many flights arriving at the same time and while there is a business check-in counter, the lines can get very long.

SYD-AKL. 767-300 business Class seating was dire. No PTVs (DVD player handed out to pax). Seats were domestic J class seat operating an international flight. When pax in front reclined I might as well have been back in Y Class, having seat back jammed in my face. Only plus were the crew who were apologetic, embarrassed but provided very good service. They admitted this aircraft also used to HKG and to Honolulu, so heaven help you if you are reading this and planning a trip to HKG or HNL. On a positive note, QF has an outstanding new First Class lounge at SYD. Apparently run by Sofitel. Really glad I dined at lounge before flight. I would give the Qantas flights themselves 0 out of 5, except for the great crew and the First class lounge at Sydney, so I'll settle on 2 stars. Avoid transTasman. Sorry QF, but a major disappointment.

Melbourne-Cairns in domestic Business Class. The plane was almost new 737-800 and left on time. The seat was very comfortable and a very tasty lunch with chilled white wine was served by probably the best in-flight crew I have ever had. Nothing to much trouble. The latest Bourne film was shown as well. Highly recommended.

HKG-PER on 23Dec. Dated 767 continues to be used on this route and as a consequence it is difficult to get a good nights sleep. IFE was a joke, however the inflight service was excellent. When the crew are in the right mood the QF inflight experience is world class and this flight was no exception.

BNE-CNS-BNE return economy over Christmas. Decent looking 737-800 on both sectors. Both flights on time. Good and friendly service on the ground and in the air. Leg space minimal but acceptable for these short flights. Cereal and Yoghurt on the morning flight to CNS and pretzels or cookies on the afternoon flight to BNE sufficient. Used mileage for this trip as the offered air fare over Christmas offered by QF, DJ and JQ were just out of this world. QF is my favorite domestic carrier in Australia and they will continue to get my business as long as their fares are in the same ballpark as the others.

CNS-LAX-SYD First Class. Excellent domestic business class CNS to SYD. Much better than US domestic first class. Smiling, friendly flight attendants on an early 0545 flight. First class lounge in SYD a plus - served a perfect breakfast restaurant style before boarding with very comfortable seating while waiting. The previous flight from LAX to SYD was cancelled due to security reasons, so our flight was delayed over 2 hours awaiting a new clearance. Onboard service immaculate. Very courteous and friendly staff. Full American breakfast was served before landing. IFE had the latest films playing. Duvet service and flat bed.

London - Hong Kong - Melbourne in Business Class. Check in and boarding was slow, but onboard service friendly and professional. Meals pleasant and adequately presented. The flight operated about 40 minutes late, and on the second leg the AVOD system failed and was reduced to a limited number of films shown on a traditional loop.

SYD-MEL-SYD Ground Service: My original flight from Sydney was cancelled, but I received an SMS to let me know in good time to change flights quite painlessly. I wonder if this was a Frequent Flyer benefit because my colleague travelling on the same flight did not receive an SMS despite both of us registering our mobile numbers with Qantas. Replacement flight was late due to technical issue and needing to find a crew. Online Check-in is good. On board Service: Aging 767-338 both ways, a bit worn, but quite generous leg room. Good crew on both legs. SYD-MEL crew were thrown on at the last minute, coped well. Flight out featured a sandwich for lunch. Flight back had a hot dinner (no choices, however). Overall, not bad for a short flight.

LAX SYD on a 90% full flight. Arrived at T4 in LAX 3.5 hours before departure, to find myself the only passenger in the queue to check in. Once on board, no drink offered until supper was served. Service very polite & friendly. Same scheduled routine by cabin crew, one round after another. IFE box blocked most of space for feet beneath seat. Still able to sleep for a few hours into the flight. Overnight transpacific flight. Food nothing spectacular, service professional & personal. Used frequent flyer points, so value for money. However, given the massive amount of points needed to redeem flight, doubt if worth being a loyal passenger.

SYD-SIN-FRA. Business Class. Upper Deck. Sydney-Singapore leg was unremarkable. Food OK without being great. Cabin crew competent but not especially friendly. Didn't get offered a drink until an hour after takeoff. IFE not working despite several reboot attempts. Singapore-Frankfurt leg same problems with IFE. Cabin crew much friendlier, happy to help with food requests during wee small hours. The flight was an hour and a half late so plenty of passengers were worried about onward connections in Europe. There was extensive advice provided over the PA before landing on all connections, including rebookings.

MEL-SYD-MEL - Both flights delayed half an hour due to late arrival of inbound aircraft. B767-300 both sectors and leg room surprisingly good. Check in at Melbourne was a bit all over the shop with a distinct lack of ground staff to direct passengers. I was surprised on check in at Sydney to find that as I had used the online check in (which is fast and easy to use) I could jump to the front of the queue - it would have been nice to know this in Melbourne. Lunch served on first leg - bland chicken pannini and apple. Breakfast on the return - cereal, juice, yoghurt, fruit scone. Obviously gone are the days of hot meals on Qantas flights (especially short flights). Crew friendly but not over the top. Value for money only because the flights were on special, otherwise I would have flown Virgin Blue.
