Flew from Dallas to Sydney on June 14 with a brief stopover in Brisbane. I have nothing but high commendations to the crew and the staff. The service was top notch and nothing was too much to ask for. We had seats 70j and 70k and I am 6 foot and I could fully extend my legs and lock them under without hit my kneecaps on the seat in front. There was plenty of food and snacks. What made the impression was how understanding they were and even if the could not do it, they would still try. We immediately went sightseeing because we were so well rested.

QF9 outbound MEL-LHR on 3 June and QF2 inbound LHR to SYD on 13 June both with stops in DXB. Most of my mainline trips to London, Dubai, Singapore and HK are on Qantas craft. Despite all the criticism I have to say that Qantas on the mainline routes have upped their game. Excellent service from FA's. Meals can be a little inconsistent but have generally found this when the catering is resourced from London in particular. As a comparison my wife travelled out earlier on Emirates also on their A380 service. Same metal but more cramped and an inconsistent level of service from the FA's. No real negatives on either of QF2/9 save the usual gripe about the wait to disembark the A380 which applies to all.

QF2, Heathrow via Dubai to Sydney. Paid a lot for an exit seat, but not worth it, as on the aisle near the hatch which the crew use to go to their rest station, my feet were continually bumped as they queue up to enter, the light just in side the door was annoying, and the door banged every time, so forget any rest. Surprised at the poor quality of food, curry or lamb stew on Dubai leg, the curry AGAIN or macaroni cheese on Sydney leg. Breakfast was a muffin, so arrived in Dubai hungry, had to buy breakfast from pain quotidien, which was best meal on the trip! Crew were very ordinary. All in all not as good a flight as Thai gave us on same trip 3 months ago. So unless my return flight is much better will use another airline in future.

Canberra-Melbourne return. Although only 45 minutes in the air, my ticket for the outbound leg said that dinner would be served. So, I was surprised to get a tiny, very cold chicken and lettuce sandwich. And that was it. You know what, it's fine to not serve a meal on a 45 minute flight, but don't say that you will. The crew were terrible. They were miserable, rude and surly - with the exception of the cabin manager who was trying hard to make up for the rest of the crew. A passenger in front of me asked for some ice with his drink. The attendant called (yelled) to another attendant in the galley for ice who yelled back down the aisle that there was none. She then made an excuse that no ice is loaded on such short flights. After the fuss died down, a miraculous cup of ice was delivered to the man by the cabin manager. Return flight, got shifted to an exit row as I was boarding - a nice surprise. Crew were a bit nicer this time but still not great. Short TV show on overhead screens. Planes were clean and well maintained.

Flew Darwin to Perth on 737-800 with winglets. No problem scoring exit row seats, and with a hot meal served (which was very nice, and a decent serve), plus complimentary beer and wine, cannot really complain. I have taken this flight many times, and service is always very good, and catering better than other flights. Still love the cheese and crackers and ice-cream later on. After Feb flights to Sydney/Melbourne with appalling catering, this was a nice return to the Qantas I like, and the reason I fly them.

Sydney - Dubai return - A380 - seat 13A. Lounge facilities in Sydney were comfortable and offered an acceptable selection of snacks and drinks. Boarding was efficient. Seating comfortable, meals were of good proportion and quality was excellent. Wine selection and quality good. IFE selection was varied and up to date. The addition of the mattress to the seat makes a huge difference and the PJs add to the comfort of sleeping. Service was friendly and relaxed. I think this is the hallmark of flying Qantas. Overall a good product that made for an enjoyable flight.

MEL-SIN on an A330. As a long time QFF I was a little disappointed with many aspects of this flight. Our flight was delayed 2 hours due to 'faulty cockpit part' which had to be flown down from Brisbane. My partner and I travelled in Economy - the seats were dated, with little leg room. The entertainment system was old, tired and responded poorly to commands from the remote. The food was reasonable, with a tasty side salad and a good offering of drinks and wine. Cabin crew were friendly and helpful. The flight was three quarters full so we were able to spread out during meal times. We arrived late, but gladly at one of the best airports in the world - Changi. On international routes (aside from its flagship MEL/SYD-DBX-LHR), Qantas compares poorly with competitive, modern and innovative Middle Eastern and Asian airlines. I suspect most Australians who fly Qantas do so for the QFF points - which day by day diminish in value and are harder to earn. Particularly on a route to Singapore, the options for better, cheaper and more modern travel are best serviced by Emirates or Singapore Airlines. Offering the more popular Premium Economy options is one way. More modern aircraft (think: Dreamliners and A380s) and a more diverse menu offering are other helpful ideas. Time to up your game Qantas!

I took Flight QF82 from Singapore to Sydney. The departure time was at 2020 but the flight only departed at around 2100. The personal television was ok and selection of movies was ok. They served dinner and the food was pretty good. The customer service was great as if you just went to the gallery during the flight, they would be more than happy to help you. The overall experience was very good.

PER-MEL. We flew these flights last week. The flights were on time and the service was outstanding. The food was delicious and the entertainment was designed to make the time fly. Really great flights!

Absolutely fantastic in every aspect, our business class flight from Hong Kong to Sydney was amazing. The flight attendants were very polished and gave exemplary service. The food was good and the seat very comfortable. I cannot complain about a thing. One of the best flights we have ever taken.

LAX-MEL and SYD-DFW. May 2014. The LAX-MEL flight was delayed about an hour or more, due to arriving passengers from JFK. The A380, mini Business Class Cabin with three rows, is quiet and comfortable. My ear phones were not working and a couple of FA's offered to have me sit in the lounge to watch a movie, which I did, and they brought me a snack. The device did work afterwards, in my seat. The flat bed really helps on a 15 hour flight. The food, service was great. FA's were ready to offer any food and beverage throughout the flight. SYD-DFW had a great crew- exceptional, attentive, personal service. Chose 5J on the reconfigured 747-400ER and love that solo, window/aisle seat. Food was good, breakfast is the best and presented to you from the galley- not on a cart. ( pancakes, fresh fruit, smoothie/energiser drink, tea, toast with jam - you will not find this in the U.S.). Great conversation with a FA during landing, as the Crew seat is in front of the 5A/5J seats. Slept for 7 hours on the 14 hour flight, love the flat beds and the option for a mattress cover and blanket/pillow to add to the comfort. FA's are so eager to make up the bed, unlike Domestic/U.S. airlines. This was one of the best experiences, flying internationally, second to Cathay Pacific.

Flew MEL-SIN-MEL on QF 35 and QF 36. Staff were professional, meals were ok. My travel was booked with a partner airline (who performed the next two legs of the journey) and as such when I tried to purchase extra leg room seating was refused. The only saving grace was that both flights were not full and was able to move to spare seats. Top marks for effort for those on the transfer desk in Singapore. Realistically there is more room between the sates of a V-line country train than economy class on Qantas.

Brisbane to Darwin. Poor tired planes. Outbound ran out of food. Inbound 767 with ipads for the entertainment system. 4 cabin staff to service a 767 who spent most time trying to get the ipads working. Flew Qantas back in 1994 - remember now why we don't fly Qantas. Charging for a beer which can be bought in bulk for a dollar.

SYD-BKK-SYD in Business. I think QF is really stepping up with outstanding service for tough competition. Great customer service on board QF 23/24. Staff are very professional and friendly, provide personalised service to business class passengers. Food and wine was very good. First class toiletry bag was given to business class passengers. Sydney first class lounge is fantastic as usual. BKK QF lounge is improved as well. It was excellent flights. Well done QF!

AKL-SYD. Business. Excellent TransTasman early morning flight. A short 3 hours with good personable service, good fresh breakfast and actually very good coffee. What singled Qantas out was their help with getting me to a connecting flight in 60 mins. There was a medical emergency on the flight and I thought I would not make the connecting flight. The crew got me off and had someone escort me to my other flight. That was amazing considering this was not a Oneworld partner. Qantas really stood out from the pack!

Flew business, New Zealand to Brisbane 25th May. Used points and I am glad we did. If I had paid for this poor excuse for business class I would be more annoyed than I am already. Old, scruffy dirty seats that obviously are or were Premium. Food slop (get rid of Perry!) Only two choices of wine? Never would I fly short haul business international ever again with Qantas. So very overpriced and certainly not what you would expect in (supposedly) Business Class. Flew Emirates BNE/Auckland. Chalk and cheese. What business should be! After almost 40 years with Qantas I now give up. I am at the age to want to enjoy comfort when travelling but will be looking at other airlines as if this is business on Qantas - forget it.

SYD/DXB on the A380. Was upgraded using frequent flyer points. A very acceptable product. Very cute little lounge area at the nose of the cabin to chat to passengers over a glass of wine and watch a large TV monitor. Configuration of 2+2+2 is a little more cramped than SIA (see earlier review) but still relatively acceptable. Although seat width is smaller by far the flat bed is very comfortable. Good food and wine. Altogether a great experience if one's upgrade application to use points has been successful. Would definitely choose another off peak flying date and repeat the journey to DXB on the flagship A380.

Same day Brisbane to Sydney (return). Flew down on QF8 (which departs/arrives international terminal), which is a 744 with new interiors. Flight great and a wide selection of IFE. The staff were friendly and even made a mandarin announcement for a Chinese tour group on board while we were delayed at SYD on the tarmac due to a late departing aircraft at our gate. Return trip was QF524 on Boeing 763 with ipads available. Again, staff excellent and friendly. Only comment on both flights is that the cost cutting is quite evident, with shrinking portions and less options (even at meal times). Overall though, the QF domestic experience is outstanding.

Brisbane-Los Angelesand Dallas Brisbane in Premium Economy. Worth the extra price. Great service, attentive staff who go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The extra space gives you more room to stretch. These may be challenging times behind the scenes but I didn't feel it as a passenger.
