MNL-SYD-AKL-CHC-AKL. I was quite disappointed with Qantas after all the praise I had heard before.
Planes (767 & 737) were old and entertainment almost non-existant. Nice service and good legroom
anyway. Basic but solid product, which felt pretty lame after superb Asian airlines. Worst
experience on these flights was Sydney airport, where you had to wait for hours to go through all
the possible lines and inspections!

SYD-HK return. Outbound flight was delayed by more than two hours due to mechanical issues. We had
a connection flight from HK to Beijing, with two hours transit time. A water bottle was handed out
to passengers at the beginning of the flight and was told to fill up the bottle myself at the back
of the plane when I asked for more water. Disappointing service for the Australian national carrier.

SYD-NRT-SYD. Booked through QF website and very impressed with process and relatively cheap fare.
Also like the option of listing yourself for upgrade via website which I did. Night departure from
SYD nice as airport very quiet. Impressed with Economy product and AVOD, and managed a few hours
sleep. Took Shinkansen from Osaka to Tokyo and NRT express to airport for return. Delighted to learn
upgrade to J had cleared for return flight. Long line to check in but after having documents checked
was directed to priority check in and allocated a window seat upon request. QF Club Tokyo very nice,
with similar décor to SYD, with plenty of food and beverage options. Much hyped Neal Perry food
rather bland for my taste. Sleeper seat had the awful feeling of sliding down, as these seats are
known for.

Christchurch to Adelaide Via Sydney. Flight was 2 hours late due to delay to arriving aircraft.
Check in was suspended so once it restarted everyone was standing in a queue with only 3 or 4 desks
operating. Despite being one of the last to check in we were offered emergency exit row so had heaps
of leg room. Cabin Crew helpful and friendly. Inflight entertainment of the older main screen type
and for some reason half way through the flight the system froze in our two seats also putting the
attendants call light on. Baggage collection in Sydney with bags arriving before we managed to
reached the collection area less than 5 minutes after we left the aircraft. Good domestic flight of
one and half hours from Sydney to Adelaide, Wine and snack offered by friendly crew tidy clean 737 aircraft.

MEL-AKL-SYD business class. 744 from Melbourne to Auckland was good (enroute to LAX), but business
class seats not as good as Air New Zealand product. Rather disappointing QF does not provide the
international business class product on its 767 services across the Tasman, but uses domestic
business class configuration instead which is about equivalent to premium economy. Otherwise the
service is good and crew approachable, friendly and helpful.

Sydney-Melbourne-Sydney. Used both online check in and QuickCheck at the airport on this trip. Both
methods quick and painless. Did not understand why Qantas needs to segregate bag drop lines by
check-in method. This leads to unnecessarily long lines, in my opinion. Planes used were older
767-338s. I deliberately picked non-peak times for travel, so lots of space. Cabin service was
better than my last couple of trips with Qantas on both flights. Only downside was baggage
collection in Melbourne. It took 45 minutes for our bag to appear on the conveyor, and this was for
a flight that was two thirds full at most.

Melbourne-Tokyo. As a regular traveller on this route, my flights are constantly delayed while we
(usually) wait for the A330 to be towed from the hangar after maintenance. Last week we were over 2
hours late, and last month nearly 3 hours. I'm naturally all for safety and maintenance, but Qantas
have really got to get their act together with this schedule, not least because you run into public
transportation problems late at night from Narita Aiport, which is over 60kms out of Tokyo itself.
I've missed the last bus to my preferred point in the city 3 times in the last 6 months because
Qantas have arrived so late. I've found the Qantas A330s also seem to have more than their fair
share of IFE problems. Economy food is 3rd rate slop compared to other similar airlines, although
business class food and service is certainly up there with the others. Basically, nowadays I only
travel with Qantas because I have to.

Canberra-Melbourne-Canberra. Outbound leg departed and arrived on time. Return leg delayed 25
minutes due to delay of a connecting aircraft and a "technical crew". Our luggage was wet when
collected in Canberra, presumably because it was left uncovered in rain at Melbourne. Canberra
ground staff were not interested in this since, in their view, there was no loss or damage involved.
Because most of the contents were packed in plastic bags, only one item in one case was damp when
unpacked. Cabin service on both legs was good, with interesting snacks (biscuits and pesto, roasted
chick peas) on offer. It was also pleasing to see Qantas offering fresh fruit on its flights.

SYD-BKK-LHR and LHR-SIN-SYD economy, exit row for all sectors. Had requested points upgrade for LHR-
SYD but first and business completely full - plane had not been reconfigured for premium economy.
Very friendly and helpful staff, very acceptable food provided- no menu provided LHR-SIN as catering
had provided incorrect choices, but cabin manager explained in advance, and let us know what the
choices were. Will continue to fly Qantas for international routes - if connecting from LHR to
another European destination give yourself three hours to go through security.

FRA-BNE return, Business class. Excellent service and comfort. I liked the pyjamas and it made
sleeping a lot more comfortable. I had an aisle seat on the upper deck which could do with a bit
more storage room around the seat (window seats have plenty of storage space). The skybed is great,
but would be better if it went back more to be really flat. The ticket costs, however, are
outrageous.

LAX-SYD return business class. Everything was OK, and nothing more. Starting with the Lounge at
LAX, which doubles as an American Airlines lounge, we got 2 free drink tickets. So after $18,000 I
pay for my 3rd drink? Don't insult me. The snacks were just that - crackers and cheese, with the
world's smallest sandwiches - mostly bread, and not what you'd expect for International Business
Class tickets. To compound lounge issues, our flight was not announced, and we were among the last
to board, unintentionally. Onboard, no drink was offered to me upon sitting down. Some folks got
one, and some didn't. I asked and finally got one. 90 minutes into the flight, and again, no
drinks, snacks, etc. were offered. Finally, the dinner order was taken and service began. The meal
was just adequate and nothing more. The seats are comfortable when you're not sleeping, and OK
(nothing more) when you fully recline. Like others, I found myself slipping down the "fully flat",
but "inclined" bed. They are not competitive with the new breed of Business Class seats offered on
many other airlines. One gets the feeling that Qantas if flying on a route with little competition,
and that's the case. Funny how that works: Little competition leads to shockingly high prices and
mediocre products and services. Message to Qantas: Excellence is a good thing. Give it a try.

MEL-SYD-MEL checked in online so it was easy to print boarding passes at Q check in at both
airports. MEL-SYD the aircraft was generally clean. Full flights both ways. Outbound served a lunch.
Entertainment was working. Their website is misleading when it says you are served beer or wine on
flights after 12pm which is not true. They dont serve any complimentary alcohol until 4pm but can be
purchased. Crew were rude and no smiles like doing you a big favour. Flight arrived on time. SYD-MEL
the CSM announced no IFE only apologies. The window seat where I was seated had food like tomato
sauce on the seat. They serve cold sandwiches on these flights. Nothing great - not worth paying the
extra for the frills which they advertise a full service carrier and they fail to provide. I would
not fly Qantas again unless they have bargain fares.

BKK-LHR. Flew in newly fitted out 747 Aircraft in Economy. Seat pitch not great, however the actual
seat is comfortable. Inflight service from a crew which lacked in personality, somewhat mechanical.
Meals more than adequate, served a snack pack after main meal service and saved a trip to the galley
during the night. A pretty good service though could have been improved by a more 'interested' cabin crew.

BNE-AKL-CHC-AKL-BNE. Departure delayed 40 mins due to crew issues. However, Captain kept passengers
informed regarding issue. Full B737-800 to Auckland. Clean and well presented aircraft and we
arrived only ten minutes late even with delay. No shortage of food and drinks. F/A's very friendly.
Auckland to Christchurch return on B737-300's. Aircraft showing age however, was also clean and well
presented. Kiwi F/A were great and handed out lots of food and drinks for 1.2 hour flight. Auckland
to Brisbane on a B737-400. Flight was on time. Seated in emergency exit row seat. Plenty of space in
this area. Seats do not recline in exit rows. On all sectors flight crew were friendly and smiled.
Would fly Qantas again. Purchased tickets while they were on sale so great value for money.

BNE-DRW return. Travel on a B767-300 is worth it on these longer hauls in Australia, especially with
a full aircraft and this type of aircraft operates the BNE-DRW run. Surprising but welcome upgrades
to business class both ways and this enabled me to get some work done. Quite good food, especially
on the return late lunch-time leg with good quality wine and coffee offered. Flights close to on-
time. Very useful aspect of using the Valet Parking and associated check-in facilities at Qantas
Brisbane Domestic Terminal. Overall, a pleasant experience.

Melbourne to Manila - a 10-hour flight which actually took us 30 hours. Melbourne to Sydney,
scheduled to leave Tullamarine Airport at 1100 hours. Because of “mechanical problems”, this flight
was late out of the starting gate, and we landed at Sydney just before 1300 hours. When we reached
the transfers desk Qantas staff informed us that our plane had already left, and that arrangements
would be made to put us on the next available flight. We had to wait 4 hours before being put on
QF31 to Singapore. There, we were told we could catch a connecting flight to Manila. Like our
previous flight, landed late in Singapore. We almost made connection, but for some inexplicable
reason, the four of us were bumped off the connecting flight. We were stranded in Singapore until
the following morning, so that by the time we got to Manila, it was 30 hours after we had left
Melbourne.
