Hong Kong to Bangkok round trip. Everything fine on the Bangkok side. However, after landing at Hong Kong side waited 30 minutes on the plane for the shuttle bus to the terminal. The luggage claim took around 20 minutes. The dinner was cold chicken meat with rice. Totally agree you get what you pay.

HKT-HKG. The flights were on time and hassle-free. Aircraft were definitely old and worn around the edges. The food was exceptionally bad for airline food, but for a short flight that wasn't a big deal. The gate used at HKG airport was a bit obscure. It took a bit of searching, and involved a short bus ride. The best thing about the flight was that the times worked out more convenient than Dragonair.

Horrible experience. On OX218 (Phuket to Hong Kong), we were delayed 5 hours. It took 3 hours for anyone from the airline to show their face in the international waiting area. No apologies, no explanations. They swapped in a new plane, told us our current seats were OK, rushed us onto the plane, and then said, hey, open seating. With a mass of tour groups, that means, "you're screwed." You clearly get what you pay for, and we will never use this airline again.

HKG-Phuket return. OX is not that bad as what we thought! Both flights on schedule. Of course, you get what you pay for. The aircraft are old, and food & service is average. All in all, we were satisfied with the flights!

Chiang-Rai-Bangkok on 15th August. Had booked on line but did not receive the online confirmation and it took several phone calls to BKK to get it - and then I needed a native Thai speaker to help. Checked in early for flight (only 7 people ahead of us) and given seats next to the engine. After much fuss managed to changed these for ones nearer the front of the aircraft (excessive engine noise sets off my tinnatus). 30 minutes before departure happen to be looking at the display board and noticed the flight was cancelled - no announcement or anything. Told to go back to check in where we had to wait in line for an hour and a half to have the flight number scribbled out on boarding card and replaced with next flight number three hours later and told we would have the same seat numbers. No apology or information as to why the flight was cancelled was offered. We were offered a "meal voucher" valued at 87Bh which was insufficient to buy a cup of coffeee in the airport! Eventually the oldest 747 I have ever seen turned up and a huge scrum for boarding occured - we found that our seat numbers did not exist on the 747 and was told to sit anywhere. Cabin crew bags were stowed between the Buisness Class seats in a way which is dangerous and against safety regulations. Cabin Crew gave out incorrect information about the aircraft and flight (I fly 747s so know something about them!). Got to BKK over 4 hours late - just before getting off the aircraft an apology for late arrival was given - but again no reason. Hey ho, it was cheap, you get what you pay for!

BKK to Phuket return on business class - just paid at the airport an extra £10 for the chance. Upstairs on a classic 747-100, ex Japan airlines. Excellent peace and quiet. Had the chance to view the flight deck, with all the old dials etc, very interesting. We had a delay which started with the radar, everyone was disembarked and put on to another ex-UAL 747-200 - a bit shabby, with a dull interior, but did the job. All in all, good cheap ticket, you get what you pay for, but the chance to fly on an aircraft from the 70's!!

OX from HKG-BKK-HKG. We chose OX for the flight times. The planes were both a bit shabby. One appeared to be leased from PIA, and was clearly older than me by quite some way. The biggest problem with the OX service was the toilets - it would appear that they clean them in BKK, but not in HKG - perhaps the services are too expensive in HKG. So even when we got on to the plane, the toilets were horrible. One steward took the student approach of holding his nose, opening the door, spraying in a load of deodorant, and closing the door again. Nice. We have flown OX before, but I don't think we would again. Before, they were just endearingly rubbish, but they really seem to have gone downhill. Part of the problem is the passengers: no-one seemed to have a clue that you're not supposed to stand up during final approach, or that it's rude to recline your chair into someone's face as soon as you sit down, or that you should fill in your immigration form before you get the immigration counter, or that you should queue to get on and off the plane, or that you shouldn't commute with people 10 rows behind you by shouting. As far as your fellow passengers are concerned, it's the worst airline I've flown on. I do feel quite sorry for the cabin crew: they really have their work cut out. But that's no excuse for not bothering to clean the toilets, and that was what would stop me flying on them again.

It was the third time that we took Orient Thai Airline for our Thailand trip. The flights were not on time - delayed from 2 hours to 8 hours. On the aircraft the carpet was dirty, armrest and overhead compartment was broken. And, there was no water supply in the toilet. We couldn't imagine an international airline would have had such bad service and arrangement. We tried to complain to the airline HK office. The answer was - we don't have this department. If you want, please write to our Thailand office, Well, we learn a lesson and will never take this Orient Thai Airline anymore!

Hong Kong to Bangkok; Seats were renovated and new entertainment system; but no PTV because it's a no-frill carrier. Flight departed 30 minutes late and arrive on time. The airline uses Boeing 747-300 on this route which came from KLM and they had reconfigured for Government Charter. The flight was very pleasant and the service was very great. Meals was an excellent standard and drinks were offered 4-5 times in-flight. Before landing crews passed out candies and collect the garbage. They always have a smile.

HKG-BKK. When I arrived at check in i was rather surprised they only had 2 counters, but there were no waiting at all! HKG-BKK leg was on the old 757 that had a torn nose and engine, or at least worn away. The safety video was played but lacked sound and a sharp image, it was fuzzy the whole way. The a/c was switched on but it was still unbearably hot in the plane, every pax was sweating. A positive thing that about OX was that they supplied drinks, nuts and even a hot meal on both flights. One thing that OX MUST be congratulated on is their extremely friendly F/A's, they were the best I've ever had on a flight, especially the traditional Thai hand signs they done to welcome you onboard and offboard.

Flew OX on Chiang-Rai-Bangkok with them on B757-200. Old aircraft but spotlessly clean. Departed on time and arrive 3 minutes earlier than schedule. The fare was cheaper than Thai Airways. Cabin crew very nice and very friendly. They're drinks and peanuts service as well. Very pleasant experience with them.

Chiangmai-Bangkok. My first reaction is “never again”. The experience was stressful, like taking a public bus in downtown Bangkok. The plane was a worn-out B747-200. More than 500 passengers packed in. Chiangmai airport is clearly unable to cope with this. Departure area was a madhouse. Departure delayed 45 minutes precisely because of the “cattle-herding”. Taxiway buses had to make many rounds to pack the crowds into the aircraft. We were squeezed into the buses to the point of bursting. Pity the old ladies standing up, who had to cling on to dear life. Aircraft was very old with torn seat pockets. Interior looked like an air-con public bus in Bangkok. Audio system not working. Safety procedures shown on video but with no sound. However, there are two things I appreciate about this airline. First is that unlike other budget airlines, Orient Thai provides just one fare, regardless of the day and time of travel – no hidden charges, no surcharges, no extra charges, no tricks! Second, the staff behaved quite professionally. But I will not do it again, although the fare is considerably lower than THAI. Just not worth the stress!

12/04 on their new onetwo-go 'no-frills' service Phuket - Chiang mai via BKK. Being a budget airline you have to book each sector separately. They are having some issues with their website which makes it difficult to book unless you read Thai (the English option reverts to Thai every time you change a paramater, then trying to change it to English takes you back to the start & back in a circle many times) Booking online you should receive an email ticket 24hrs after you book. This didn't happen for me & resulted in a very frustrating 40 mins telephone call being passed from person to person at the call centre - when all Ii wanted was the booking code to enable be to check in, i spent the whole time explaining that I didnt want to book a flight, etc so I had to get a Thai person to get the info I wanted. From Phuket to BKK we fly on a 747 which was old but comfortable no service was offered on the 60 min flight which was fine. Bags came through quick so we could check in for the next sector to Chang Mai. 757 used on this flight & again given emergency exit rows so very comfortable. I slept most of the flight, but they served complimentary drinks & peanuts to those who wanted them. The two flights on time, no problems, comfortable & very good value just let down by the call centre.

An impressive improvement of Orient Thai. I found their service to be much better on my last BKK-CNX and v.v. journey. Polite and Professional crew, clean and comfortable (for short flight) 757 aircraft. Looking forward to be on board their new 747-300, have heard that they are the first no frill airlines to fly 747 on the no frill flight.

13 April 2004

I have just got home after flying with Orient Thai from Phuket. I have now flown four return journeys from Hong Kong to Phuket with Orient Thai and I have just encountered my first (and, hopefully, last), problem with the flight. Upon boarding the plane in Phuket where the temperatures are at their seasonal high, we found out that the Air Conditioning was not working. As I was one of the last on board it was not too much of a problem for me, but a family sat close to me who had a baby about four months old, were frantically fanning him with their Airplane Safety Cards (I knew those things would come in handy one day!!) The cabin crew frequently went up and down the aisles dispensing water to those who wanted it and offering apologies to everyone. We were told that the CPU was to blame and this seemed to placate most passengers. Once we were airborne the A/C came on and everyone cooled down. The food was palatable considering this is a budget airline and the crew were polite and helpful throughout the flight. Orient Thai help me fly direct to Phuket and back instead of having to go via Bangkok on my return journey and the ticket is the cheapest one available. I will be flying Orient Thai again although I wish the peanuts weren't as hard as bullets!

After hearing hundreds of different terrible accounts of Orient Thai, now I am actually flying with them between Hong Kong and Phuket. Nevertheless not to discredit other posters' credibility, I find the airline, on the contrary, a real pleasant delight. The fact that the aircraft and its interior looks aged doesn't bother me at all as I had been feeling safe and reasonably comfortable throughout the journey. The catering was bad, but well, the airline at least gave you a hot meal onboard; could you name any other LCC which does the same? Drink services were run on a frequent basis on this 3-hour flight and a complimentary candy was served to passengers, with a surprise, before descend. Yet the best part about my first OX experience was the smiling and friendly air crew, and their nice touch of professionalism human warmth. No question asked, OX will definitely come top of my preference list.

Phuket to Taipei - January 29th, 2004. Never again I am traveling with Orient Thai Airlines!! The boarding started one hour late. We were not told why. But that is okay, things happen, plus it is chartered plane anyway. The plane was not air conditioned. It was too hot! People were taking off their clothes, my 1.5 year old baby was exhausted of heat and fell a sleep without eating or drinking. As for me, I had an asthma attack. There were many more children and elderly people on this plain. Unfortunately, I do not speak Chinese to share their complains with you. Thank God no one had a heart attack! We were in this heat for almost 2 hours. Pilot has made 2 announcements within this time. Both times he said that there was a starter problem and that it will be fixed soon, and we will take off in few minutes. There was no response to people's request to turn on air conditioner or to let people out of the plain. Water was not offered. However, the crew was polite and gave water to people upon request. Finally, the door was opened and people were "flying" out of the plain. All of the sudden, everyone stopped. You ask why? The Orient Thai representative decided to not let people out of the plain until the bus came to take them back to the terminal. Of course people started yelling and just pushed him away. Total mess!! No one cared about us! We were treated worse than animals. You can't imagine the heat we were in! As we were leaving the plane, flight attendants were apologizing for the trouble and were very nice once again. 4 hours later we were on the different plane headed for Taipei. It was almost over!

4 February 2004

On my return trip from Bangkok to Hong Kong on the 25th January on OX208 flight. I received the nicest welcome and treatment from the crew. I remembered when I asked one of the crew to give me the health declaration forms, at that time, he was busy serving meals, so according to my experiences in other airlines, they usually forgot your request. But this time, after a while, he came back to me and asked:' Have you got the forms?' I said: ‘no', and he said: ‘no, not yet'. In one minute, his voice was next to me and said how many do you need? This kind of service makes me feel good. And during mealtime, I want noodles, but the case was only rice was left, I have no choice and I don't like eating rice, I was not so satisfied at first, but after his apologize, I didn't feel bad. So from these two incidents, through the same man, I get a very good impression of Orient Thai.

BKK / CNX / BKK on L1011 Tristar services in Business class (THB 2,105 each way) because Economy was full. The aircraft, although old, were smooth and comfortable. Only peanuts and fruit juice served, but the flights were on time, and I would fly in the nostalgic old Tristars again provided they are kept well maintained.

Bangkok to Chiang Mai. 1104 baht one way pre-bookable (27 US$ ) Four flights each way every day using 757-200 aircraft ( ex XU-123 registration number ) Firstly I had my doubts after reading the other comments, however I was very pleasantly surprised. I flew BKK-CNX on the OX126 on the 17th December, we pushed back two minutes late and arrived on time. The aircraft although old was clean - peanuts and soft drink served by young enthusiastic staff, flight about 85% full. Information given out by very young looking English captain was good and informative, no complaints whatsoever. The return on the 19th was just as good, push back 17 minutes late, it appears that one aircraft is used on this route only, so may have knock on delays, plane 100% full. I created a problem by being booked on a later flight that day, but check in staff just amended and issued a boarding pass. CNX to BKK in 56 mins.  I would recommend anyone to travel with them, the price although a promotion was under half that of Thai/Bangkok Airways, new routes open next year in Thailand. On arrival at BKK I saw a second 757-200 ready to go and a 747-200 I think, 7 windows upper deck parked at the airport.

OX4121 and OX4124 flights between Hong Kong and Phuket - found the inflight services okay. Flights not exactly on time, they were not delayed much. The food and drinks served were okay. Having considered the air fares, I think the services are reasonable. Why not the management of OX consider using newer aircrafts (at least not that B747-Classic, which was too out-dated nowadays in respects of the lavatories, seats and amenities - no headphones!)  and charge air passengers a little more in round- trips?

I share the opinions of others that this airline is nothing good but cheap. I flew from HK to Chiangmai on 7.8.2003 and there was a delay of more than one hour before takeoff due to airconditioning system failure. The response of the flight cabin crew was poor and the cabin looked terrible with torn seats.

To respond to Ms Cheng's comment, Orient Thai Airlines is a privately owned Bangkok based airline which I agree that the service quality has frighteningly gone downhill within the last two years (used to be very good around 4-5 years ago when they are doing the domestic service). I do not understand why, but the turnover of their flight attendant is very high during these couple of year, and they have inadequate efficient staff. Most of their newly recruited flight attendant do not know how to cope with the problem, (they have just announced to employ the flight purser from other airlines in the newspaper!) some of them possess poor English skill. And their 747-200 have a cheap look both interior and exterior. Orient Thai need to do something about this before the history of Angel Air repeat itself on them

8 July 2003

I flew OX203 from HK to Bangkok on 1/7/03 and OX200 back on 5/7/03. On 1/7/03, the air hostess in the check in counter was impolite and the service is poor. The flight was full. There was no air-conditioning for more than 3 hours before the flight could finally start. The air hostesses or the captain did not give any announcement of what was happened until many tourist guides asked about the situation and the tourist guides announced that there was some problems in the plane but not the captain. After 1 hour, the captain only announced that he would let the passengers know the situations 10 minutes later. The same announcement repeated for 3-4 times in that 3 hours but no passenger could know when they could finish waiting. The tourist guides called the passengers to calm down for several times but again not the captain. The poor conditions (hot - 32/C and no air) in the plane made all passengers sick and hungry but there was no food provided until the flight started for 1 hour. 4 of the passengers even left the plane. The captain did not apologize to the passengers for wasting 3 hours' time of all passengers! The return flight was again delayed by more than half an hour. The air hostesses did not provide lunch to me and my husband. When my husband told the air hostess, he only open his mouth without saying anthying. This is the poorest flight I and my husband have ever flown. Although the price is low but if the services can not be improved, the passengers will definitely not to choose Orient Thai again.

09 November 2002

I flew OX203 from HKG to BKK on 2 Nov 2002 and OX200 on the return trip on 4 Nov 2002. The 747 Classic on the outward trip looked tired inside - acres of grey - including the seat covers. The flight was full, mainly with tourists from mainland China whose behaviour suggested it might have been the first time on a plane for many of them (bringing their own food and drinks on board, falling over themselves to look out of the windows during take off and landing, jumping out of their seats upon touch-down, smoking in toilets, etc). After take-off, mixed nuts and drinks were served - but no beer or wine. By the time the meal trolley came to my seat, there was only the one dish (chicken with noodles) left, which was served only slightly warm. The return flight was much better, with a half-empty aircraft - still with a very dull interior. The crew were clearly under less stress and extremely friendly. There was a choice of chicken with noodles (same as on the outbound flight) or pork with rice. I noticed that the cabin crew repeatedly checked on the state of the toilets during the flight and cleaned them up when necessary. Given that Orient Thai's pricing ex HKG to BKK is very similar to that of Gulf, Emirates, Ethiopian and Finnair, the only attraction would be that OX have daily flights and the others do not.

26 August 2002

This is the first time I travelled to Bangkok from Hong Kong by Orient Thai Airlines and I was seated in economy class. It is a quite new airline. It took about 2 and a half hours to Bangkok and hot meals are served during the flight. First they give you mixed nuts, then some beverages for you to choose, and then hot meals are served. The seat in the economy class is comfortable, the space between the seats are large. The service is good, the air-hostesses are friendly - they always smile and say 'Sawasdee' to you. It is a real surprise for me that although it is a not-well-known airline in the world, it can have a very good service as some well-known regional airlines, such as Dragonair, Bangkok Airways, etc. It is really a unforgettable experience for me.
