Istanbul to Kuala Lumpur on 777-200 aircraft. Travelled in business class with only 4 passengers in the cabin. Very comfortable flight and excellent cabin crew service. Cabin staff very attentive and friendly. No complaints.

Economy

Travelled Economy Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur. The queue for bag drop (internet check-in) was a breeze (compared to others that had to wait very long to be checked in) and I was the only who did that. The aircraft was changed to 747 instead of 777 as the inbound flight was overbooked. However, the load factor for this outbound flight was only approx 60%, plenty of seats and space available. B747 was rather old. The first food service was quite good however the second service was rather bad (only a sandwich and a muesli bay). Some crew were rude to Asian passengers but lots of smiles and very polite to others. Seat was very comfortable as I had 3 seats in a row for myself. Disappointing IFE with nothing - the advertisement on IFE is very annoying, for this 2-3 mins advertisement every time I started a new TV/Movies.

AMS-KUL-LHR. Outbound trip very good, crew friendly and attentive, food excellent for me and good for my wife, a vegetarian. Return trip also very good with a great crew and again nice food. My only grumble is that the choice of films/tv was limited.

TPE-KUL-PEN. It was the start of the winter holidays for Taiwan, flight was full to the brim. Check-in took 30 minutes, but immigration and boarding were smooth. No more hot towels and peanuts in Y, though during a galley visit for a soft drink the crew asked "you want peanuts?" and passed me some packets. Food of good quality and ample portions, with free-flowing alcohol and 2 drink runs on the 4.5hr flight. Crew showed differential treatment between Caucasians and Asians, and not particularly polite in my own opinion - a let down. The younger crew on domestic sectors were fantastic though - enthusiastic, fun and warm. Not a bad trip for the price paid.

KUL to LHR. Plane left and arrived on time. Cabin crew excellent as was food and drink. Problem is the seats are not full flat bed - okay for day flights. I like Malaysia Airlines but the planes are outdated.

KUL-LHR return. The flights were full on both sectors. The food on KUL/LHR sector was poor but cabin crew were attentive and helpful. The service on the return sector was patchy - some great crew but several unhappy souls. MAS can really can no longer compete directly with Cathay, Singapore, Qatar etc in terms of flat beds, F&B and inflight entertainment. It does seem rather odd that they continue to win so many awards with such a dated product.

Business Class AKL-KUL. Problems with onward flights KUL-DUS handled very well by MH ground staff, everything they said they would do they did. In fact even approached on board by the inflight service director to find out more about the problem and he assured us he would do all he could to solve it before we reached KUL. First meal service felt rushed, however the food was excellent. Crew engaged when serving and respond to any request. They do need to keep a better overview of the cabin during the flight though - no walk throughs with drinks or offers of drinks. Second meal quality a little lacking compared to the first. The choice of movies and TV programmes is limited and disappointing as well as not being updated often enough.

LHR KUL-MEL. First leg B747, Second leg B777. Efficient, functional check-in at Heathrow, good customer service on flight to KUL. Comfortable 747, notwithstanding usual economy class discomforts applicable to all airlines. Second leg on the 777, less pleasant service and food, including running out of all but one meal option. Uncomfortable, non-functional seats and faults with the video system.

AMS-KUL B747. An excellent flight, MH cabin staff were proactive. Food very good, and the sleeper bed perfect for this flight, IFE excellent but didn't use enough because I changed into my PJs and slept.

KUL-BKK by business class. Bought the economy but travel in business class. They really have so much offer. Really good. Food a bit dissapointed. I think they already downgrade the food quality. Aircraft still using B737 with the old seat. No entertainment at all. But the crew really attentive. Toilet were clean.

AKL-KUL, PEN-KUL-BKK-KUL-PEN, KUL-AKL, B777-200, B737-800, B737-400. Travel with our 2 years old daughter in Mid November and December 2009. Quite disappointed with the service on AKL-KUL leg. We never been offered tea/coffee or juice and the steward seem to forgot our bread on both meal services. However, very good and professional service by the cabin crew on the rest of the flight particularly KUL-BKK and KUL-AKL to make our journey comfortable especially when you travel with young kid. Unfortunately, found my baggage broken when arrived at BKK. As Malaysian, I can feel the different service offered by the cabin crew to the local Malaysian and the foreigner. Cabin is tidy, meal is satisfy and good in-flight entertainment (B772). Overall, accept for AKL-KUL, 5-star cabin crew and airline.

SIN-KUL-NRT and return. SIN-KUL sectors on its B734. MH needs to upgrade its aircraft for this sector, the budget airlines have much better aircraft. Its B734 is aging, though its colourful seats in the cabin somehow compensate that old feeling. Drink is serve on the short flight. FAs are young and courteous. KUL-NRT sectors on its B772. New plane this time. FAs are a mixed of friendly, attentive, and not so attentive ones. The meals are rather good, except for some types of snack which is not really up to my liking. Quite innovative to see its menu flashing across the IFE screen just before meal time, at least I saw this for the first time. IFE on the outbound journey is interrupted by announcements, otherwise the shows on its AVOD are good. Generally the flight is punctual for all sectors, the catering is on par, or even better than some other carriers. The round trip fare is more than 30% cheaper than SIA when I purchased during its sales, so it's definitely value for money.
