Worst airline we have ever dealt with - return flight cancelled and moved to crack of dawn
departure from Reyjkavik back to Gatwick less than a month before departure. No reason given
for cancellation. Outward flight cancelled exactly 14 days before departure (to avoid having
to pay denied boarding compensation?). When pressed reason given as "having to consolidate
flights as no demand". Had to hang around Gatwick all day and wasted night in airport hotel.
As we were leaving to catch the outbound flight telephone call from London office - return
flight now cancelled for the second time with 4 days to go! No flights available to Gatwick
that day - offered Stansted which was very inconvenient. No customer service whatsoever.
Flights on time both ways, plane outbound very cramped and crowded.

LGW-KEF-CPH. I didn't know what to expect of this little airline, which seems to be
Icelandair's only competitor. I went there from Gatwick spent four days in Iceland and then
flew onwards to Copenhagen. On both occasions I flew on a new 737, was offered my own
personal entertainment system, and the choice of food was excellent although you have to pay.
They allocate seats and even offered me pillows and blankets, the first low fare airline to do
so in my memory. FA's were very friendly and security minded and I sort of sensed that my
comfort was important to them. When I flew home I even had the same flight attendant coming
back so it felt very cosy. Ground agents were very helpful at both KEF and CPH.

LGW-KEF in early September. About 3 weeks before we travelled the airline e-mailed us
cancelling our afternoon return flight, an annoying and late change that I notice has affected
other travellers. We re-booked onto the morning flight to LGW which required us to get up at
04:00 for the 30 mile drive from Reykjavik to KEF - we weren't happy. The flights themselves
were ok - though our outward flight was 1 hour 20 minutes late and I'd watched the same flight
experience delays on the 2 days prior to our departure too. The cabin crew on the outward leg
were fairly gloomy but the return crew were rather more jolly. Legroom was standard for a low-
cost operator, but on the return my mate and I had emergency exit seats so a bit more space.
Iceland Express were ok but unremarkable and I wouldn't rush to recommended them. I'm likely
to return to Iceland so I'll give Icelandair a try next time - the fares differential doesn't
seem all that great.

As this forum shows, the quality of Iceland Express is going downhill. Our trip from Billund
to Keflavik was delayed by over 3 hours both ways. Both times they said it was because the
plane was delayed in Alicante, which shows that their policy of operating several routes with
only one plane is programmed to deliver bad service. Both planes were elderly 757's, very
cramped and the interior was worn out. Very noisy as well. Fairly friendly cabin-crew, who is
intent on getting more money off passengers through snacks and duty free soon after takeoff.
The landing in Billund was extremely rough and scary, although there was no wind. Once safe,
passengers applauded the poor skills of the pilot. All in all, due to two annoying delays I
would definitely not recommend this airline, whose motto "We fly to please" is pure sarcasm.
One piece of advice which will certainly come in handy with this airline: if delayed by more
than three hours, passengers are entitled to free refreshments. We each got a meal-voucher for
the cafeteria of about 5 Pounds, which of course does not go a long way.

I booked my first flight with Iceland Express from Copenhagen to Reykjavík (Keflavík airport)
for the summer of 2009. About a month before the trip, Iceland Express sent me an email
telling me that the flight had been cancelled, and that I could switch to a flight different
on a different day or a different route, with no additional fees for switching, or cancel my
booking and have my money reimbursed. No reason for the cancellation was given. I was also
promised that a customer representative would call me within a few days; a week later, this
still hadn't happened, so I called them myself. Having the booking cancelled didn't take long,
at least; however, when I asked again about why the flight was cancelled, I still did not get
a conclusive answer. Due to this lack of reliability, I will not (attempt to) fly with Iceland
Express again.

Had awful flight with Iceland Express from Stansted to Reykjavik on April 6. Leg room was very
tight (and I'm only 5ft 5 - wouldn't fancy being a strapping 6 footer squashed in there) Also
there was a serious problem with the air conditioning on board for the entire flight. It was
like a furnace! Never had such an uncomfortable flight in my entire life and would seriously
have to reconsider flying with them ever again. Crew were nice and on return flight was lucky
enough to get 3 seats for myself and my husband so we could stretch out. Still not enough to
erase the memory of the outbound journey though!

Currently sitting in Kelfavik Airport waiting for my 4 hour late Stansted flight. No apology
from Iceland Express, very rude woman at check in said delay was for maintenance.
Irritatingly, also had same reason given on outbound flight 1 week earlier, for similar
length delay. No apology by captain or crew, legroom the length of my cat and plane falling
apart inside. Would fly Iceland Air next time.

Stansted - Keflavik - Stansted with a group of schoolchildren. Both flights on B737-700 operated by
Astreus. The flight out was very smooth - with no check in queues and an on time departure and
arrival. Allocated seating is nice, as are comfortable leather seats. On the way back, the flight
was delayed by 6 hours due to bad weather conditions - it was annoying that Icelandair flights were
only delayed by 3 hours as they had standby aircraft, but Iceland Express don't, so we had to wait
for our plane to arrive from North Iceland, where it had diverted due to the weather. Once onboard,
we received no spoken apology, but did get a complementary drink as compensation. The cabin crew on
both flights were professional and efficient, but not very smily. All in all, I would recommend
Iceland Express in the future.

Apart from their fares being unbudgetlike (comparable with BA etc), our Iceland Express experience
was very good. Easy booking in; prompt departures and arrivals; clean aircraft (MD-90); pleasant staff.

Copenhagen CPH to Reykjavík KEF and from KEF to London STN, and I can
only recommend it. However, even though they call themselves a budget
airline, fares can turn out pretty expensive - I would therefore advice
you to double-check what you'd pay with other airlines, namely
Icelandair. In-flight service was excellent, the plane was clean,
comfortable seats, food and drinks are surprisingly cheap (at least
cheaper than prices in Icelandic restaurants). Besides, you're allowed
the usual 20 kgs of checked luggaged, but they didn't charge me for six
kilos more! You wouldn't know that you're flying a budget airline,
really, even seats are allocated at check-in.

I flew this airline because of the reviews I had read on here and I am
so glad I did. A brilliant airline. You would not know they are a
budget airline. The check in was fast, the flights on time, great seat
allocation, good snack choice, pillows, blankets and newspapers. Very
smart cabin crew who smile!

Excellent service all round. Apart from very comfortable flight with good choice of snacks etc,
seats are allocated at check-in so avoiding the usual scrum that you get with other low-cost
airlines. Flights have been on time on both occasions that I have used the service (last time being
May 5th 2005). Keflavik airport is a very pleasant place to spend the odd hour or so and the check-
in procedures here are very relaxed with desks open for all flights. With the right seats, you also
have the added advantage of seeing the most incredible views of Iceland. This is a wonderful island
to visit - even more so with low cost comfort provided by Iceland Express.

Superb! What an excellent little airline this is, flights, service, on-board catering, comfort,
it's all marvellous. This, to my mind, is how a low cost airline should be, cheap, simple but
customer orientated. I have always considered the flight to be a big part of a holiday experience,
and am now looking forward to another long weekend in Iceland, and once again it will be flying with
Iceland Express. What a pity none of the UK based low cost airlines run on a similar basis.

I travelled STN-KEF-STN 6/10/04 - 10/10/04. Excellent flights with very professional and polite
Icelandic cabin crew. English pilot and co-pilot both ways. There were excellent running
commentaries on the progress of both flights which departed on time both from STN and KEF. Plenty of
pillows and blankets for those of us who needed that extra sleep on the early morning return flight
after enjoying the last few hours in downtown Reyjavik !

I travelled London to Reykjavik on Iceland Express with my family. The fares were reasonable,
everything was pretty much to time, no unpleasant surprises. They ought to be a three
star airline,
compared to other on you list. I know the actual airline is Astreus, but that would normally be
misleading for people checking.

STN-KEF-STN. My first experience with Iceland's 'Low Cost' option. Have
no complaints what so ever, in fact nothing but praise ! Outbound &
Inbound flights on time. Very friendly & professional cabin crew. Good
choice of in-flight refreshments to buy. Have to say that the coffee is
the best I have tasted by far compared to the other 'Low Cost' flights I
have taken. Even offered 3 free coffee top-ups on the outbound
flight !! Come on easyJet / Ryanair / bmibaby this is the way forward !!
Iceland Express will be my number 1 choice for my next visit to this
'incredible' country.

Iceland Express has been operating since late February 2003, flying daily flights (increasing to
twice daily in April 2004) to Copenhagen and London / Stansted from Keflavik. The airline operates
under the "low cost" concept - point-to-point, electronic ticketing, no free on-board refreshments.
Flights are operated by a wet-leased 737-400 from U.K. operator Astraeus with Icelandic cabin crew.
My first flights with Iceland Express on 04 November KEF-STN and 08 November return were without
incident. Efficient check-in and gate staff, on-time departures, adequate service and choice of
sandwiches and drinks for sale. The aircraft interior has seen better days, but the seats are firm,
with tables, recline etc. all working. No being able to interline (both myself and my baggage!) is
an annoyance for me, but this is easily outweighed by both Iceland Express's low fares and by the
effect they have had on forcing down the fares on Icelandair's previous route monopoly. I'll be
flying Iceland Express again.
