Dublin to Buenos Aires via Madrid. Dublin - Madrid was fine, flight wasn't completely full. Madrid - Buenos Aires an awful flight. Completely full, delayed, chaotic boarding with what looked like 15 lines of people all trying to get through 1 gate. Onboard there were separated families trying to get seats together, including parents with infants who not only didn't have a baby cot, they were also seated apart. Dreadful inflight entertainment on tiny screens, cheap food and wine that I couldn't drink (which says a lot!). For a country which produces some of the best wine in the world, their national airline is a real disappointment. Lunch served quite soon after take off and then nothing at all for 9 hours! No drinks service, no snacks, nothing. At one point one of the crew opened a box of sandwiches in the galley and there was a stampede - it was really disgraceful. The crew were dreadful; rude, impatient, unfriendly, and incapable of speaking any language other than Spanish. There was a snack served 1 hour before landing, the equivalent of having waited from having lunch at 3pm until the snack at midnight. Baggage took forever to come out on the belt, and my case was damaged (handle ripped off in the airport and kindly deposited on top of my suitcase on the belt). All 4 Iberia flights in my itinerary were delayed, not one had an announcement, explanation or apology. It never ceases to amaze me that Iberia staff can be so arrogant when their airline is such an international embarassment.

We flew on them on three occasions, Orly to Madrid, Madrid to Bacelona and Barcelona to Madrid. We received excellent customer service, check in staff were helpful and friendly and all flights on time. Also the lounge in Madrid was fantastic.

Iberia is a very bad airline. Lima-Madrid-Lima a total disaster, no personal screens, old aircraft, grumpy air crew. Disorganized desk staff in Madrid airport and always making overbooking. I don't recommended.

TXL-MAD-TXL. easyJet also flies Berlin to Madrid but I found that Iberia was within ten euros of the easyjet fare for these dates and offered the advantage of an assigned seat in place of the easyJet seat scramble and departure from my preferred Berlin airport. A319, grey leather seats, and seat pitch just about adequate for a six-footer but taller people may be uncomfortable. There is no meal provided - all food and drink has to be paid for and I recommend bringing your own food as prices were quite steep. Both flights were full but the cabin crew were pleasant and flights on time. My only gripe is the time taken for luggage to appear at Barajas Terminal 4 .

MAD-RAK (Marrakesh); two of us checked in; one was seated in row one of economy and the other at the last row! (one booking made months prior). Requested reseating and this was no problem; two seats in row 2! Food and drink required purchase; something that's becoming all too real for spoilt Australians. Two hour flight which left and arrived on time. Good value for money.

San Jose to Madrid. Once on board we were informed that our meal would be served followed by a drinks trolley and that the bar would be open until one and a half hours before landing. After the meal was cleared seat belt signs were illuminated and slight turbulence was felt. This settled down but the seat belt signs remained on. We were then informed that no drinks could be served while these remained on. Exactly one and a half hours before landing in Madrid the seat belt signs were extinguished and breakfast served. 10 hour flight, 2 cups of tea, one glass of wine and an orange juice! Was this a cost cutting exercise! I am quite aware that safety is paramount on any flight, however on the connecting flight from Madrid to Heathrow, both snacks and hot and cold drinks were being sold from the trolley, during a flight which incurred considerably more turbulence.

Iberia has been the worst airline I have travelled so far. The aircraft itself is nothing special, legroom adequate, and the staff reasonable once you get on the flight. But having been stranded in Madrid airport due to heavy snowfall, Iberia handled the situation very badly. We weren´t informed the flight was even cancelled, it just disappeared from all the noticeboards. And then the helpdesks were a complete mess, poorly managed, and the staff badly treated having to run around due to poor preparedness.

VLC-MAD-DMD. Valencia to Madrid on Dash 8 operated by Air Nostrum. What a difference to mainstream Iberia! On a 45 minute flight we were offered a choice of rolls with a drink, all served with a smile. Trek to Terminal 4S for Madrid-Moscow Leg. Night flight leaving at 23:45 arriving 06:35 local time. Flight full and surly staff. I seriously thought that the Purser was going to punch the Russian lady travelling with infant sitting next to me, when she asked 3 times (in 30 minutes) to please heat a bottle in order to stop the baby from screaming the plane down. Foil tray of pasta offered 2.5 hours into flight (about 3am) with a spoonful of tomato puree (really appetising). Arrived rather strung out in Moscow but nice touch was all IB passengers being ushered through "Diplomat" immigration channels resulting in virtually no wait (trip rating 4/10). DMD-MAD-VLC What a difference on return leg! Mature, professional staff remind you why flying Iberia can be a really pleasant experience. Granted the flight was only 30% full but early evening flight included a meal of beef and pasta which was perfectly acceptable and whatever you wanted to drink. Worth noting that on the few European flights where Iberia still serves a free meal, you can ask for whatever you want to drink and they will oblige. MAD-VLC leg operated by Air Nostrum which whilst beginning to differentiate between Business and Economy class service, still manage to serve at least a drink on a flight of 30 minutes when their mainstream counterparts charge for the privilege on a flight of anything up to 3 hours. Overall though, this was a good experience - it's just a bit hit and miss though, unfortunately (trip rating 7/10).

Took the Boston-Madrid flight on March 31 and was pleasantly surprised with the level of service. Check in at Logan was a breeze - showed up 1.5 hours before my flight and hardly had to wait. Seats were fairly comfortable, meals decent, wine flowed freely and without charge, and flight attendants were pleasant and attentive without being fake. After meal service, they shut off the lights so everyone could sleep and served breakfast right before landing so that everyone could get the maximum amount of rest possible. I used my AA miles to book this ticket, but I'd happily fly Iberia again.
