We booked our reservation 4 months before our return flight from Dubai. Upon arriving at the
airport we were told that the airline had overbooked and hence our reservation no longer
existed! What is the point of doing a reservation when an airline cannot take and hold one. We
travel with little kids (4yrs and 6yrs) and had reserved to all sit together. The person at
the check in counter added insult to injury by saying "Sir, next time don't book on a
saturday" - so now all of a sudden this is the passenger or customer's fault for booking
months in advance? In the end our kids and us were spread through out the plane and we had to
beg other passengers to let us sit next to our kids who couldn't possibly fend for themselves
on a 13 hour flight!

SYD-AKL on A380 in Business Class. Limo pick-up from hotel and check-in at airport speedy.
Sydney lounge spacious and bright, but had to wait 30 mins for the hot food to be brought out.
Boarding for premium passengers not as streamlined as at Auckland Airport but okay. Opted for
an outside business seat as find window seat too confined - but that is just a personal
preference as I don't mind people walking past. My only gripe is a slight disappointment in
the meal choices offered. However the food itself was excellent. Great value for money as flew
on a special business class airfare.

LHR-DXB return. Outbound B777 300er with wide screen ICE, older B777-300 inbound - no
problems both ways. If pushed, I would say the seat could be softer. Flight attendants great
both ways.

Sydney - Auckland and back. First flight on A380 and very impressed. Luckily both flights only
about 25% full so lots of room to move around etc. You notice a feeling of space with the A380
at the window seat but seatbacks are still incredibly narrow. I noticed small built people
still hanging over the person next to them. Crew lovely and ICE very good but did have to be
reset on AKL-SYD flight twice which resulted in almost not seeing a whole movie.

JNB-DXB-MXP/LGW-DXB-JNB. After recent poor experiences with EK, I was happily surprised!
Upgraded to First on outbound leg, 777-300 with first class suites - a wonderful experience.
Service outstanding on all sectors, even DXB-MXP sector in economy.

Emirates was a total let down. Traveled to Dubai and onto to Sri Lanka 2 weeks ago. Firstly
We weren't told of a stop over in Maldives on our way back for a (1hr). It was not included on
our travel itinerary (E-ticket). To make things worse when after some passengers get off from
Maldives, air stewards wake all the sleeping passengers who are traveling to Dubai to check if
the remaining hand luggage in side overhead storage belong to anyone. They took all the cases
out & went around asking passengers who it belongs to which was very comical. It was an
unprofessional way of handling the situation. Performance of stewards were very poor & the
quality of food is also low. Passengers had to wait more than 1hr after meals for stewards to
collect their trays. Seats were uncomfortable and my headrest was broken.

SFO-DXB-BKK-SYD. SFO-DXB B777-200LR : I decided to select a seat at the back, 37B. The flight
was fine, nice FAs, ICE is the best. Food was nice. DXB-BKK plane was full, 6 hours of hell,
the notorious 10 seats across. BKK-SYD, B777-300ER, 10 across but nobody next to me, very
comfy. FAs could have been a little more personal, but a very pleasant experience. Waiting for
the return on A380 tomorrow night.

Auckland-Sydney-Dubai-Tunis return. Outbound to Dubai via Sydney on A380, aisle seats have no
privacy but one of the better products available, very quiet cabin, easy to sleep on longer
sector to Dubai. Dubai-Tunis return on A330, the benefit of legroom is outweighed by the
narrowest business class seat I have ever sat in that does not recline anywhere near flat.
Very uncomfortable, cabin crew did go some way towards making up for it. Inbound from Dubai on
A340-500, nice aircraft, terrible business class product for such long flights- seats are
very poor, do not recline fully. 18 hours on this aircraft leaves business class passengers
feeling like they were in economy! Would never pay for this product if I had an alternative.
Is a big let down for Emirates.

Singapore - Melbourne. Two adults and child. Check-in efficient and fast. Food: adults meals
terrible, only the bread was edible. Extraordinary selection of food for the child though, as
he slept the whole time we had three boxes of snacks for him by the time we landed. Toys and
games provided. 10 abreast seating doesn't work. Four seats for the three of us meant we could
make space but the 'official' space under the seat in front must have been 20cm wide due to
intrusion by seat frames. Don't know how anyone uses that. Cabin crew polite and friendly.
Entertainment system was excellent, great selection of movies including classics. Touch screen
a bit off though.

MAN-PER return via DXB. Online check-in and e-ticket at Manchester excellent. Embarkation
chaotic, contributing to 30 minute delayed departure; and 40 minutes to deliver bags on
return. Online check-in a waste of time at Perth. New Emirates terminal at Dubai. Still no
seats. As a vegetarian it hacks me off no end that Emirates insist on throwing their special
meals around the cabin up to an hour before the rest of the plane is served, and never with a
drink. It cannot be that difficult to organise a trolly. Food itself was OK but has
noticeably declined in quality over the past year or two. If you prefer a spicy curry to
rubbery egg and spinach, broiled salmon, order an Asian veggie meal. The excellence of the
IFE, and smaller cabin size - with what seemed to be more toilets per seat, of the newish
B777-200 to / from Perth compensated for the cramped seating in economy. The B777-300s
operating to / from the UK are now quite tatty, the equipment required for the less-than-
state-of-the-art IFE on these planes hampers under seat leg space. In summary, Emirates
continues to offer good value in comparison to other airlines.

DUS-DXB online check-in counter was so busy that it does not seem to matter if you check-in
online first or not - it took ages to check-in. Travelling as a family of 7, incl. 3 kids, we
noticed that they let not board kids first while they did so in previous years at DUS. Crew
was friendly and excellent towards the kids. Nothing was too much. Ordered 3 special meals
(Low calorie + 3 childmeals), all were available although the low calorie meal on the return
flight was 100% better. The seats in the A330-200 are terrible, very hard and often do not
work. They really need to be replaced (on both journeys the same problem). Out of the 7
screens, 2 did not work but this was not a problem as it was a nightflight anyway. On return
journey 2 screens (different seating) did not work either. I guess their maintenance men are
on holiday too? Food was sufficient but various family members felt uneasy again after dinner
so on the return journey only few ate the hot meal. Choice was sufficient despite being at the
back of the plane. Arrived in DXB at the most remote arrival place ever encountered
(travelling Emirates since 2000), it took 30 minutes to get into the new Emirates terminal -
an absolute disgrace. DXB-DUS Check-in swift (did not use an online check-in counter despite
having checked in online) and no hassle with the extra kilos. Duty free shopping in the new EK
terminal is as busy as ever and a nightmare when travelling with kids. People pushing you
around etc. Boarding was swift and families were allowed first. Crew was horrible, no
attention for kids and not friendly at all. Apart from one, I guess they all had a bad day?
Food was plenty again and drinks were brought around plenty. Worst service ever encountered on
an EK flight. I would travel with Emirates again but they certainly need to upgrade/polish
their image and get more friendly crew like they used to have.
