NYC to ROC. Delta check-in area at JFK was chaotic, with long queues. I tried an automatic check-in terminal but it wouldn't accept my e-ticket data - most terminals were idle so maybe I wasn't the only one with a problem. After waiting in line for half an hour it became apparent that I was in the wrong queue - I needed to join a different line-up for people without boarding passes. There were about 50 in line with just one agent on duty - and she appeared mired in an endless conversation with one passenger. Another half hour wait. Eventually two other staffers turned up and I finally got what I assumed to be my boarding pass. Not so. When I arrived at the boarding gate I learned that I had a "request for seat", not a boarding pass - a twist I hadn't encountered before. I had to wait around while others boarded. I did eventually get a seat, but only because three confirmed passengers failed to appear. If at all possible I'll avoid Delta in future.

My wife and I flew Delta from Miami to JFK. We were to have a connecting flight to Dublin, Ireland also with Delta, with a 48 min stopover. After "pull-back" at Miami, the plane returned to the terminal building to pick up two additional passengers. Following the second "pull-back", the back-up generator failed to kick-start the engines and we returned once again to terminal building for repairs. We were one hour late leaving Miami, with a calculated 25 min late arrival time into JFK. Captain apologised on a number of occasions and requested understanding and patience. Stacking at JFK added to our late time. I requested assistance from two cabin attendants to allow us to the front of the plane, as we were in seat 38B & C. the very back seat, with no window (McDonnell Douglas MD-88). They refused to allow us to the front and explained that the computer system would signal to the Gate for Dublin that we were delayed but due to arrive at JFK. We arrived at the gate at the last minute, with three other passengers from Miami, only to find that they closed the Gate 10 minutes early. There was no personnel from Delta to receive us or explain. Our luggage was sent on the connecting flight, which proved the plane was still at the terminal building. We eventually rebooked for the same flight 24 hours later. We were given a hotel voucher and two meal vouchers for $7 each. Delta directed us to the Air-train to find our way to Federal Circle Stn, to link up with the hotel shuttle bus. We were not familiar with JFK or NY. The bottom line is, that Delta appealed for passenger co-operation and understanding when they had a problem, resulting in a one hour delay but could not show any understanding for the passenger problems they had created, as a result. They also insulted us with $14 to cover us for 24 hours subsistence over two days. Finally on our flight home we experienced the rudeness from a cabin attendant, that other reviewers have referred to. Would I recommend Delta? No.

LGA-MDW-LGA on Delta's Shuttle America partner on an Embraer 175. Pleasant outbound flight with good service and a seat more comfortable than most US first-class seats on larger planes. Pre-takeoff mimosas and a decent lunch. Return flight more crowded, but still good inflight service. Chicago Midway is a quieter, closer-to-downtown and Southside alternative to ORD.

Amsterdam to Minneapolis on November 10. I found cabin crew to be rude and unhelpful. When my monitor for the entertainment didn't come on I told the attendant - her curt answer was it will come on the minute we are in the air. Well it did not, so I mentioned it again and she walked right on by without a word. I changed seats with my husband as he didn't mind not having a working monitor - then the seat refused to tilt back, when I told a different attendant the reply I received was "I m not a mechanic." Is this the way your flight attendants are trained? There were other seats available, but I was offered nothing.

Booked a flight LAS-JFK based on it being a redeye flight, to get to NYC early. Flight was also a decent price. Flight on time on a 757-200. Being from Australia, we kind of expected the transcon flight on a legacy carrier to be average (comfort wise) at the very least. Was very disappointed when we sat down, and realised there was nowhere to put our legs. Can't believe this lack of legroom could exist on a carrier like Delta. Also used Delta between LGW-MSP-SEA. The airport ground staff member was incredibly rude, with a total lack of customer service. I give Delta 3 out of 10 simply because we arrived safely and on time.

BKK-NRT-JFK traveling solo with 2 young kids, expecting the worst considering my experience on Delta in the US. I usually fly JAL or Cathay, but Delta had cheapest fare by $200-300 per person. BKK to NRT had a mostly Thai crew which was a major plus as they are nicer and more service oriented than US flight attendants. Plane a newer A330-200 with AVOD in each seat. Decent selection of programs, although it could use more kids shows. All in all service, food etce average to slightly better on this flight. Short layover in NRT. NRT-JFK on 777-200 that had been updated with mostly free AVOD in each seat. Seat pitch not great, but bearable. American FA's poor to fair, but not as hostile as I have experienced on other Delta flights. No special help with kids and the carts came barreling through the aisles. Children slept most of the way, one stretched out, one in lap. Not looking forward to what I hear is old 747 on way back through ATL.

YWG-MSP-SFO and back in Economy on ex-Northwest aircraft. YWG-MSP on a CRJ, friendly FA. Onward 757-200 flight to SFO delayed. SFO-MSP return flight delayed by congestion at SFO and then lack of gates on arrival at MSP, resulting in a stampede for the exit by passengers worried about missing their connections. MSP-YWG leg faced creeping delays due to maintenance issues, resolved by switching us to another ancient DC-9. Bring your own food and entertainment, avoid tight connections and restrict yourself to a carry-on that can be stowed under the seat will help make your trip with Delta more pleasant.

BWI-ATL-GIG. We were supposed to fly Delta just BWI-JFK to connect with a TAM flight to Brazil, but when the flight to JFK was canceled due to technical problems, we were finally re- routed through Atlanta, taking Delta all the way. Flight to Atlanta standard domestic flight. I think we got a tiny bag of peanuts as a snack. We got a so-so meal on the flight to Brazil, and one drink; beer or wine included, but hard liquor cost $7. No one came around after that to see if we wanted another drink, even for a charge. I sat in the front seat of the economy class section, near a restroom, but a few times the flight attendants closed the doorway curtain with snaps (when they had things to do and apparently did not want to be disturbed), so I needed to walk back to the end of the plane to use the restroom. The 767 had indvidual entertainment systems on the back of each seat and the selection of movies was fine.

BOI–SLC–LAX–SYD. BOI–SLC check-in smooth with no waiting. Used automated kiosk for check-in and was able to choose my own seats for the sectors flown. During taxiing an announcement advised a delay due to ATC delays at the destination. A time frame was given for the delay and flight attendants passed through the cabin offering water. No additional service was provided by the flight attendants during the 45 minute flight. All customers were kept up-to-date regarding the delay. SLC–LAX was scheduled to depart at 2025hrs - the departure time was rescheduled to 2130hrs, later updated to 2215hrs. Clear announcements were provided in the terminal advising of the delay. The aircraft was a worn 757 with cabin furnishings missing and seats scuffed and aged. A drink and bag of nuts were offered. Cabin garbage was promptly cleared. Prior to the end of the flight one flight attendant displayed initiative by moving customers with tight connections to the forward cabin. LAX–SYD had boarded by the time I go to the gate - a new B777-200LR. Cabin clean and fresh, flight attendants attentive and friendly. Seats comfortable leather type with lots of leg room. Three meals were offered and food provided was sufficient. Lavatories clean and drinks offered on a regular basis during 14 hour flight. Baggage arrived promptly. Overall, consistency was maintained on all flights with an effort to achieve on-time performance. Ground and cabin staff were courteous. It would be beneficial for the airline to limit the number of on-board announcements given. Numerous announcements given by flight attendants advising paperwork had been done, all passengers were on board and other operational activities was not necessary and more of a distraction.

Atlanta-Gatwick. Service appalling, food revolting, ancient B767-300. Leather seats uncomfortable, legroom minimum, flight attendants rude. Atlanta nightmare and the MD90 to Detroit was ancient and service again appalling.

Terrible and wont fly Delta again, they changed seats and almost put us in the back from Atlanta to Amsterdam because the plane was smaller than planned and a lot of people had to be on waiting list. Overfull flights, changed flight plan. No good, we will fly Martinair to Orlando in the future and no stop at Atlanta anymore, a crazy airport.

Just been to and from New York on Delta flights from Manchester. Seat nos 37 E and F - really hard and very uncomfortable. We had to use pillows provided as seat cushions. We felt very cramped, most unsatisfactory for a flight of nearly 7 hours. Meals were poor. The only good things we have to say about the experience is that cabin crew were polite and friendly and flights were on time. The earphones provided are also poor 0 we gave up trying to listen to films. All in all, with the exception of friendly cabin crew, an unpleasant experience.

JFK-LAS-JFK. Flight was okay, just average domestic flight. Crew (both ground and inflight) friendly, although the service offered is below Jetblue level (forget some European or most Asian carriers!). The thing with Delta is their gate handling is horrible. They have zone system but it doesn't matter once the gate opens. Everybody walks in regardless of zones, which creates chaos. IFE is there, AVOD on each seats but if you are flying economy, you have to pay for movies and TV programs from HBO. Limited channels on free TV available (boring!). Both flights had GOGO inflight WIFI. It worked amazing!

AMS-JFK return on B767-300. Seats fine, food good ,service pleasant - same good service on way back. Both flights on time, was a bit wary of flying Delta, but enjoyed my Delta experience.
