CGN-PRG-CGN on an ATR72 both ways. Service was fine. Plane was in good condition. Departed and arrived on time. Took a while for luggage to reach the belt in PRG. FAs were nice. Spoke German, Czech and English. Prague airport a bit boring but easy to navigate. Good value for the money.

PRG-OSL and back. Prague airport clean, bit longer queue on checkin. Plane a bit old, but clean and comfortable in economy, also snack was ok. FA polite, all service quick and perfect. Return flight was the same experience, the plane was new and felt more comfortable. Landing in PRG ok, plane attached to stand but we had to go downstairs and use bus.

STR-PRG return on ATR42. Cabin roomy, quiet and clean. Seat pitch enough for this short flight. Both flights on time. Inflight service far better than competitor with a small meal box (cake and yogurt for breakfast, sandwich and cookie for dinner) and drinks of choice (wine included).

PRG-ZRH-PRG day return in Business. Web check in for PRG departure smooth with cabin luggage, used VIP lounge (handled by the airport, not airline) so no CSA ground staff met. Morning departure on B735, load factor about 80%. Seats comfortable enough, leg space adequate, FAs attentive, welcome drink before takeoff. No IFE in this old plane. Breakfast served just after 20 mins. Evening departure from ZRH delayed. Checked in from PRG already, but no priority boarding at the gate. New A319, seats narrower (3 seats in row - middle seat converted into table). Again nice CC, welcome drink the same, light dinner (cold plate similar to breakfast but with couscous and green pepper + cake, tasty), no after snacks or little extras. This type of meal was just common in economy few years back, however without porcelain or table cloth. LCD screen with flight info and Prague short movie. Information about connecting gates given from cockpit before landing. Experience meeting the expectation, however a cut-down service comparing to five years back.

JFK-PRA-KSC. Greatly disappointed that flights from EWR are no longer available. Also lay over in Prague is so short that there is not enough time to get luggage loaded onto connecting flight. This was the second time my luggage did not arrive with me.

Six flights with CSA this year-to date (Skyteam Platinum FF). Must admit that the level of service on European flights seriously decreased and CSA“s onboard service plunged into average or even below. New timetable also includes an error regarding minimum connection times for domestic flights in Prague, which makes you wait for over 5 hours for your connecting flight even though there“s a flight leaving within 50 minutes from your arrival - but the booking system will not let you book it.

CDG-PRG. Very good flight. Much better than AF on the outbound. Plane was an older 737-400, but very clean and overall OK. The snack was great. No idea about longer flights, but Europe flights are OK with CSA.

Vienna-Prague-Montreal. Why I cannot give them 0 star? It was a nightmare, very chaotic at the transfer desk - they told us we have no reservation from Praque to Montreal? We had to go out through the custom, waiting with a small baby. They told us you have no priority that we have a baby! Everything was a mistake of the transfer desk, they didn't check well our names!

Prague-JFK Business Class. This airplane is ancient, seats are old and uncomfortable. The movie was from 2005, and only one screen on which to watch the entertainment. The food was atrocious. Who thinks it's a good idea to serve fried spring rolls as a snack? By the time this fried food gets to us, it's been sitting around for only knows how long and is a soggy mess. The airline bills itself as The Best Airline in Eastern Europe. I would be frightened to experience the other ones. While the convenience of PRA-JFK is great, I would suggest making the connection in FRA, VIE, CDG, LHR and taking a real airline if you are going to pay this kind of money.

I have had 8 flights with this airline. On the last occasion, Sofia Airport closed due to bad weather. CSA managed to bus all affected passengers to a hotel for the night and arrange onward flights for the next day. I found the operation to be about as good as it could be under the circumstances. However I agree with a previous comment that CSA have not yet quite got the hang of what is "business class".

FRA-PRG-SOF Economy. An unpleasant experience. Flight 4 hours delayed leaving Frankfurt; arrived late in Prague, of course missed afternoon connection to Sofia. Very chaotic at transfer desk at Prague Airport (could be solved by simple queuing system). Czech Air declined to put us on evening flight, SkyTeam Platinum Medallion Membership gave us no priority. CSA put up in Tranzit Hotel at Prague Airport (hotel is OK, we did get to go to the Christmas Market in Prague, the only bonus of this trip). Next day, flight to Sofia left late. Plane in poor condition. Food not worth discussing. However, baggage did not arrive - both for us, and many other passengers. Very chaotic at Sofia airport baggage desk. Bag arrived three days later. Lesson: When it work's CSA's hub operation at Prague is fine, but when it does not, it really doesn't work well!

CDG-PRA Business Class. Arrived at CDG 2 hours before departure. No-one at check-in desk until 30 minutes before departure time. Advised that flight will be delayed. No priority boarding for business class or even by row number. However once onboard no complaints with Czech Airlines. Food was good for a short haul business flight and service was pleasant.

ARN-PRG-RIX return in Economy. It was a very positive experience. Service on-board was attentive and polite, even if not overfriendly. On European flights CSA offers better catering than competitors. I was surprised to be served a cold meal with drinks and coffee/tea. On the negative side the seats looked old and worn-out, but had generous legroom. Internet check-in did not work in Riga, although CSA website advertised the contrary. Transfer at Prague is short and painless; even a 30-minute- connection is easily manageable.

JFK-PRG Economy. Flight attendants were very polite and friendly. Not so good is the plane: a really old A310 with the worst entertainment system on long-haul flights I have ever experienced. While this is not so important, a really negative impression was the ground staff at the CSA check-in: the woman who checked me in was in a very bad mood, not smiling, not saying anything, just mechanically doing her job. When I requested a priority baggage handling tag (as a Skyteam ElitePlus member), she refused and said that this would only be done for CSA Gold members. When I replied that Skyteam advertises this service to ElitePlus members, however, she put a tag on a bag. Then, she also marked my boarding pass with four big "S" letters in red, which is a request by the airline for extra- security checks for the passenger who carries such a boarding pass. In other words: I had to go through extra-careful security simply because I remarked that ElitePlus members normally get preferential baggage handling tags. If CSA employs people who do are in such bad moods, they should at least make sure they don't let it out to innocent passengers.

I have been flying CSA twice a week for 2 years, mainly between LHR and PRG - but for 4 months this was between PRG and RIX. LHR to PRG lands 15-20mins early 99% of the time. PRG is a clean airport - walking time from gate to passport control is short - baggage availability after flight is pretty quick. Inflight economy class is okay for only 1hr 45min flight - seems to be more room than Air France or KLM. Planes are a little dated - I think CSA should invest more aggressively in more modern fleet than they currently are - and look at putting on bigger equipment (A310?) at peak times of the year. Inflight meal in economy is pretty good. CSA business class is terrible - I started flying LHR to PRG in business class and soon realised there was little point between LHR and PRG. On short-haul this is simply economy class with a curtain - pretty much the same as with most airlines European routes. Food is actually worse than in economy class. However, CSA business class on long- haul - if you want business class, pick a different airline. CSA have absolutely no idea what business class should be. IFE also extremely poor.In-Flight Magazine 'Review' - is pretty good in English and Czech - with fresh and interesting content. PRG to RIX / RIX to PRG was always a good service - RIX is a nice airport too - passport control in RIX is not very good - baggage collection in RIX is far worse than even LHR. Food on this route is worse than between LHR and PRG. Crystal Lounge at PRG is really excellent. I don't notice many stag and hen parties on CSA - these guys tend to pick easyJet. Have noticed CSA ticket prices continue to rise over the last 2 years.

CDG-PRG-EVN return on Czech Airlines Economy. Very nice indeed. CDG-PRG Air France A320 and the others on Czech Airlines. So I could appreciate the size width difference. Czech is more comfortable. Nice flight attendants, service and meal. Connection in PRG Airport is quite easy, but may be risky if the plane is not on time, which is often the case to or from Armenia.

BRU-PRG return in economy. Aircraft was 737-400 series with the advantage that if you get seat rows 6,7 or 8 they have extra leg room as they are fitted for Business class. Small snack served on board, the evening flight back to Brussels included a complimentary glass of wine. The crew were polite and helpful. Only real complaint was the check-in at Prague, only 1 person checking in 5 flights, it took 40 minutes to check in, should take no more than 10 - 15.

PRG-AMS in Y class. Crew professional and friendly. Ground crew also friendly; only negative aspect is the ignoring of the infamous "priority" labels; that is a sign for CSA handling to put these first into the aircraft, but not take it out first! Really aggravating, but this is a common occurence with all European Sky Team partners. Other than that a good flight and facilities at PRG very nice; PRG airport is a breath of fresh air compared to many other airports!

PRG-STN and LHR-PRG in Business Class. PRG-STN flight very nice, new A319 aircraft. Food excellent, comfortable seat. In general the Crystal lounge in Prague very nice, well equipped. Cabin staff friendly. One minus on this trip: no priority given to J class passengers.

AMS-PRG-ATH return in business class. Czech Airlines attempt to create a convenient intra-continental schedule providing short early-morning connections in Prague proved far too ambitious in my experience. The approx. 1-hour layover in Prague each way would have worked nicely had the initial flights been on time. Because the morning flights out of Amsterdam and Athens (which left at not-so- convenient 4am) were both more than 30 minutes late, I had to sprint through Prague airport to barely make connecting flights. Suffice to say, my bags did not make my connecting flight either way, causing me even more inconvenience in my travels. Short-haul business class seats are no different from coach seats, aside from the tray installed in the middle seat of the 3-by-3 setup (thus, theoretically making it 2-by-2). Food was incredibly sub-par for economy class service, much less business class. Needless to say, I will not fly Czech again unless they revamp their morning European schedule and renovate some of their badly aging Boeing and Airbus fleet.

SOF-PRG-MUC in economy. Nothing spectacular, except the price. For a one-way ticket I was charged 380 Euros three months in advance. All flights left on time. The first leg was on a rosty 737-400 very proudly showing its age of an old, not that well maintained, very used lady. The service was non-existant, some small cookie and even smaller sandwich. One drink was served to each passenger, when I asked for a glass of water, I got only a cold-blooded refusal.

Economy with Czech Airlines from DUB-PRG return. The planes are quite old and look dated inside but the service was top quality and the in flight meal was good. Overall, I would recommend this airline to anyone flying from Dublin where Aer Lingus is the only other carrier as Czech Airlines give complimentary food and drink and do not charge for luggage.

MAD-PRG-SOF. Madrid-Prague flight absolutely comfortable on an A320 aircraft. Hot meals, IFE (some funny movies) and punctual time. Friendly multilingual staff and enough leg-room. Prague-Sofia was an older Boeing 737, quick snack, tidy aircraft. Would recommend CSA.

Purchased two multi-destination business class tickets with CSA for myself through Cheapoair and for my wife through Orbitz. I’m leaving first, on April 6th. Arrive at JFK where at check-in I’m informed that I have business class only on return; the eastbound portion is economy. Printed confirmation e-mail and attempts to explain that it’s impossible to book different class on the same itinerary don’t help. Purchase an upgrade and depart. My wife is leaving a week later, April 13th. She is told that her reservation is in economy class all the way through. At least Cheapoair confirmed my business class reservation (not that it did me any good), Orbitz changed the online itinerary! On the way back have to change my wife’s ticket due to a medical emergency. Go to CSA office and am told that they have to contact New York office. It’s a week-day morning in New York; leave and call my travel agent. He, as he tells me later, gets in touch with CSA Call Center for US in Prague and arranges the change of itinerary, although has to get a supervisor to quote the price of the change: three different representatives all gave three different prices. The supervisor didn’t help though: CSA office tells me the following day that Calling Center “made a mistake”, the price is higher. Out of curiosity trying to find out how is it determined that the mistake made Calling Center, and not the office – doesn’t work. Trying to get a business class: “No seats available in business class”. Get the ticket, arrive to Prague airport, check-in, ask for an upgrade – “there are two seats, please pay to the cashier”. Go to the cashier; the upgrade is more expensive than that the ticket change. “How come it is so steep?” – “Because your flight doesn’t originate in the US”: the nice ladies from CSA office didn’t change my itinerary as arranged with CSA Calling Center, they issued a new ticket. They did mention that it was laborious, took them several hours to perform the function! I’ve flown with many airlines, including some quite exotic ones – never encountered such incompetence, indifference, straight lies. And they claim to be “The best airline in Central Europe”!

CPH-PRG return and PRG-BTS return. Their 737 and ATR aircraft are not the newest ones around, but they do the job and at least all four flights departed on time. Cabin attendants nice and smiling, serving free refreshments and sandwiches also in Economy on these short flights. My only objection is that they served exactly the same type of sandwiches and chocolate cake on all four flights - I guess it gets a little bit boring if you are a frequent customer. And I felt so sorry for the flight attendants on the PRG-CPH flight where they played an embarrassing pre-recorded message in Danish where CSA apologized for the fact that the cabin crew couldn't speak Danish. So what? That's not their fault! Danish is not a worldwide-spoken language, CSA is not a Danish airline, most Danes can speak at least a little English and if you desperately need a Nordic cabin crew when going to Prague, you could always use Scandinavian Airlines (but then you won't get the free catering etc if you don't pay full fare)

31 March 2007

LHR-PRG return flights in Economy. Very very old 737 aircraft on both legs. CSA desperately need to update their aircraft. They have begun using A320's on other routes but a route like LHR-PRG needs cleaner and newer aircraft. Air conditioning system was not working properly and food was not as nice as last time. The lounge in Prague is fantastic, which is why I continue to use CSA. However, on the other hand, crew were friendly and cheerful.

24 March 2007

Man-Prg-Man in business, 733. OK, a bit mixed to be honest. 737 looking very old inside with that cheap yellowing speckled Boeing plastic. Good business layout, 2+2 seating gives lots of elbow room. Awful 737 business seats from 15 years ago. Flat backrest like an ironing board with thin foam headrest (no wings). How did the designer manage it? Suspect econ seat actually more comfortable. Crew fine, if rather grumpy and monotone. Food mediocre, lacking in quantity, no choice. Same dish both legs (beef with gnocchi). Now in return for my business class money, I expect room to stow my laptop. All bins in business full with crew kit and newspapers! Had to go back into economy to find a bin, which is no fun when deplaning. A rather disinterested feel to the whole thing overall. Crew keener on drawing the curtain and resuming chat then servicing pax. Zero announcements of any kind from flightdeck, FA announcements unintelligible. Return leg held up by stragglers for 30 minutes, but with no apparent urgency or attempt to offload them. I queried FA on this and she just shrugged shoulders. Just about sums it all up. Best bit of the experience : CSA lounge in Prague which is a fine way to spend an hour or two.

LHR-PRG return flights in Economy class. First time I have used CSA and will not be the last. I thought it was great service both on the outbound and inbound flights. Crew pleasant. Food edible. Only one complaint. This was that my seat headrest was a bit dodgy - in the sense that it kept falling off. Crew smiling, attentive and on hand when needed. Would have no problems recommending using this airline on this route. Ticket was relatively cheap at short notice also.

LHR-PRG-SOF and SKP-PRG-LHR. Generally CSA are good for the price they offer, so no complaints there. Only sore point was during SKP-PRG flight when one passenger had away too much hand luggage and brought in a suitcase that couldn't fit either in the overhead storage nor in the seat infront, so it ended up being strapped into a vacant seat! I was so shocked by this! Also, CSA uses Air France check-in at Heathrow Terminal 2, which is the slowest check-in anywhere. Even if there aren't that many people in line, allow yourself 45 minutes wait time before being served as those Air France check-in staff couldn't care less.

10 October 2006

I've flown with CSA countless times, having lived in Prague. Their service is generally very good and the frequent flyer benefits are well above average (pretty much guaranteed upgrades for silver and gold card holders). This makes long-haul business class a real perk for a frequent flyer, but would be below expectations for a normally priced ticket. The long-haul business class seats are below industry standards, although the service is attentive and polite. As with many things in the Czech Republic, the service is unlikely to be average; it will either be well above average, or shockingly below. It's the luck of the draw each flight, although I've had far more good experiences than bad. Prague is a good airport to transit through. The facilities are comfortable and it doesn't involve the hassle of transferring at bigger airports such as Frankfurt, Munich or Vienna. It's fair to note that all flights to Prague are likely to have a fair sprinkling of hen and stag nights though, which can be loud and tiresome.

5 October 2006

MAD-PRG-MAD. On type departure and a warm breakfast, hot and cold drinks and pleasant cabin crew. They spoiled the overall impression on the way back last night, with the late arrival of the inbound airplane, due to leave PRG at 1955. No announcements made until the scheduled departure time and no staff at the gate. Then it was announced the flight would leave at 2040. We left at 2110 with the captain putting the blame on heavy congestion at Madrid for our arrival, this despite the obvious fact the inbound aircraft had not arrived at the gate until after its scheduled departure time. The service on the flight was good. Czech Airlines, like its two-letter airline code is OK, but could do better.

27 September 2006

Moscow SVO to Prague. Clean and crisp flight crew smiling. Plane comfortable but a bit more leg room could be appreciated. Nice airshow, candid camera and then programme from CSA destinations. Plenty of food, sweets, coffee, tea and 3 rounds of drinks with a variety of alcohol served. Landing on time. Prague airport more than airy and comfortable to get through. Czech airlines managed to keep standards high and it will be better by acquiring new A320s and the upgrade of the longhaul of their A310s and A330s.

13 September 2006

Business class from Newark to Sofia - connecting in Prague. The check in process from the US was up to standards and they included a pass to the Virgin Atlantic lounge in Newark. The only issue with that lounge is that it is outside of security. The staff friendly and the service was attentive. The food is excellent - the wines were very good - they did as well as any airline wining and dining the business-class passengers. The Czech Airlines seat is sub-par for a business class seat. They are too close, mechanical and not electronic, they don't recline as far as a business class seat should. There is no built in video unit. One can watch the movie on the mainscreen or use a hand- held unit. The picture on the hand-held unit is miniscule and I could not hear the sound. On the return trip, my entertainment jack (on the seat) only worked in 1 ear. The business-class restrooms were clean and had nice amenities. The check in procedure from Prague and from Sofia was terrible. Crystal Lounge in Prague is very nice - food and alcohol plentiful, seats comfortable, and a view of the airport. In Prague and Sofia no priority given for business class boarding. It was a free for all. I give the staff, food, restrooms, friendliness, blankets, lounges and US checkin 4 stars -- I give the seats, entertainment, foreign check in 2 stars. So 3 stars is about right. If only they replaced the business-class seats!

8 September 2006

LHR-PRG return. Nothing but praise for the crew on these flights - seemed pleasant, plenty of smiles with efficient service. Handled the 1 hour delay at Heathrow very well. PRG bit a drag, only one luggage belt working for 3 flights, but this was nothing compared to the usual bun fight of arrivals and baggage reclaim at LHR Term 2, the former an exercise in making a queue walk round and round as many times as possible, the latter a dark, chaotic dump. What a good impression it must give to visitors!

6 September 2006

PRG-JFK business class. The seat doesn’t provide fully reclined seats, but service excellent. Pre-departure drinks included water, orange juice and Czech sparkling wine. Lunch included aperitif, warm roasted nuts, soup, starter, three choices of main course, cheese and deserts. During the flight, crew came around with ice cream and more deserts. Before landing, warm or cold meals were served, again of a high quality.

YUL-PRG-YUL (March 2006). Overall check-in, in-flight entertainment, food and service was satisfactory. Problems started 1-hour prior to landing. There was a snow storm in Prague and they closed the airport. Finally landed in Ostrava. Stayed inside plane for at least 90 minutes, then got transferred in airport in transit area, which was too small for the amount of passengers (other CSA flights landed there as well) Very little information (or should I say NONE!) given to passengers and no reps to assist anyone. Waited over 4 hours until we had to go through customs and hop in a bus for a 5+ hour ride. Nothing from CSA other than small lunch (sandwich, chocolate bar and pop/water bottle) at around noon. Was supposed to land at 6AM, got to Prague airport (via bus) at 6:30PM. The return flight to Montreal was very nice - ived over an hour early, great service on plane. Undecided if I'll ever fly with them again.

22 April 2006

Cairo-Prague-Heathrow flight. Arrived at check- in in plenty of time to be told plane was 'overbooked'. Had to wait 6 hours standing in airport (along with about 20 other people in same situation). Eventually was found a flight to Heathrow via 3 hour stopover in Paris. (Therefore did not get to Prague at all). Was given 200 US dollars compensation on the spot in Cairo (I don't consider this enough considering the trouble caused). Will not use this airline again.

20 April 2006

Stansted Prague 3rd April. No one else at check in so very fast. Incoming flight late but time nearly made up by the time we arrived. Attendants friendly, fast and polite. Snack was simple but good quality and the economy legroom seemed very good compared with the budget airline competition - funny really as we paid considerably less for the CSA flights than easyjet were offering for the same day. I know it was a simple "sit down and get there" journey with no frills but good service and legroom can make a lot difference even when you're only on a less than 2 hour flight.

BRU-PRG-BRU. Both flights rather uneventful on old planes. boarding and flight crew rather tired and looked stressed, which did'nt matter much as the flights took just about 1hour 15 mins. A nice way to get to Prague from Brussels for a relatively low price. Prague airport nice and clean, new terminal open, the ground staff rather nice and helpful. Very good value for price!

LHR-PRG. Outbound flight 30 mins early into Prague, and on time back into London. Plenty of leg room, food quite good and the service friendly and helpful, but they need to update their fleet as the 737 used on both legs were a bit old. Overall the impression was very positive, and their prices were by far the cheapest (even cheaper than the budget airline Easyjet) I liked it so much I joined their loyalty scheme and will fly with them whenever possible in the future.

BHX-PRG-SVO, and return St Petersburg - Prague - Birmingham. 737's slightly worn but ok. Food and service on all legs was good (particularly so given inclusive return price of £220) - only problem was punctuality with 3 of the 4 flights late by 30 mins or more. If time is not of the essence, I would happily recommend.

PRG-LHR one way in economy, scheduled 12:30. CSA allow you to phone check-in in Prague with cabin luggage only on EU flights or anywhere when in business class. Departure announced to be 15 mins delayed due to "operational reasons", take-off delayed accordingly. B735 a bit worn plane, but well maintained. Free Czech and English papers available. Provided free cold meal - couscous, ham, cheese, green pepper slice, two rolls, butter, two small pieces of pudding deserts - tasty for me, but many pax did not eat much. Free drinks round - free soft, wine, beer, later tea / coffee. Crew effective and polite. Inflight magazine fresh and interesting. Landed at LHR some 15 mins ahead schedule, directed to T2. Very relaxing and comfortable short haul.

12 October 2005

Dubai-Prague-Bratislava return. The flight from Dubai to Prague was delayed. The cabin crew seemed tired and not very motivated. I was very surprised that a passenger sleeping on the floor in front of the emergency exit was passed by unnoticed during the entire night flight, which made me feel like I was travelling on a low-cost bus service. Seats very uncomfortable and restrictive. The second service practically served into your hands - no trays, which I found very surprising, as I have always considered CSA one of the airlines delivering a rather good quality product. The long-haul flights obviously are not their strong point. Short haul European routes, on the other hand, are quite a pleasant experience and I would recommend CSA on these to anyone who is looking for a " value for money" trip. All in all, for my next trip from the UAE I will most look for another option, even though my sympathy for CSA remains unchanged on the European routes.

2 October 2005

We have just returned from a long weekend in Prague and used the services of CSA from Edinburgh primarily due to the more convenient flight times compared to Globespan. Whilst dissappointed that CSA have recently cancelled the flight from Glasgow; being moved to Edinburgh was not overly inconvenient and we were rewarded with one of the more pleasurable flying experiences of late. The planes are modern and clean and the flight crew friendly and attentive. The legroom was the best we've ever experienced with a good 4 inches of extra room in front of my knees. The food as good as BA and all round I would rate my experiences of CSA better than BA. A great airline flying to a modern airport and a really really great city-what better formula.

CSA Czech Airlines review by Sam Sharp
16 September 2005

Just returned from Eastern Europe where I took a CSA flight from Prague to Warsaw and couldn't have been more pleased with the service of the on ground and in air personnel. They were quite helpful in checking luggage from Prague to Chicago even though we were transferring to LOT on an e ticket and were using paper tickets with CSA. Flight was on time and I would not hesitate to use this line again.
