LAX-PTY-SCL. Was upgraded on the second leg there, and both legs back, because of my NWA Elite
Status. This was surprising since Northwest won't even upgrade their Elites on international
flights. Business class was great. Lots of good food selection. Friendly FAs. Movies were older,
though, and the seats did not have individual television systems. Otherwise, perfect flights!

Havana via PTY to Port-of-Spain. Check in at Havana was a little chaotic with a
long line but no major problems. Flight from Havana was on a 737-700 and almost
full. Flight was ok with FA's a little harassed by awkward passengers but
pleasant enough considering and we also got a snack and drink. Only had 90mins
for connection at PTY but this wasn't a problem as I just went from one gate to
the next for connecting flight. Plenty of cafes/bars and lounges etc at PTY so
no problem there. Flight to POS was on an an almost new Embraer 190 which was
just over half full and again FA's were polite and we got a decent meal and
drink on this leg as well. Plane had plenty of room and was a pleasant flight.
On return I arrived at POS check-in early but there was only a small queue and
again flight back to PTY was good - was a shame the flight was again only just
over half full as its a good service on that route. After staying a few nights
went back to PTY airport for flight to Havana and arrived early but there was no
real need as there were plenty of check-in desks and only a small queue. If
using COPA again I would pre-check in when leaving from Havana if you can. As
commented previously they advise to arrive 3 hours early but on most of my
flights there was no need to be so early but I guess it depends on which route
you're flying as to how early you should turn up. Service was better than I
expected and I would fly with COPA again

If you have flown in business class on the Embraer 190, please post information
about seat width and pitch. I am considering it for PTY-LIM.

MIA to PTY return. The check in process was quick, with minimal lines at either
end of the trip. The only annoyance was that it was too quick in that they
advise you to show up 3 hours early for any international segments. As such,
there we were sitting at the gates 2 hours early. The flights were pretty good,
hot meal service. Both flights had a choice of entrees. Seats were tight, and if
you have a window seat, you'll be in a 'hole' for the 2.5 hours of the flight.
Pricing was right, and as I watched the prices almost daily fluctuated about $50
from high to low - with no patterns evident. Inflight entertainment was standard
tv monitors every 10 or so rows, with a movie shown each way.

I had a quick Panama City-Orlando trip. I was flying with a 4 month old and a 2
yr old. Not only did I receive a child meal for my 2 yr old (nearly unheard of
now), but there was a wheelchair waiting to escort me and the 2 children to
customs in Orlando since the stroller isn't brought up. Through the flight the
staff was very courteous to my screaming 4 month old and asked if we needed
extra water and juice. The same went for the ride back. We were allowed to board
first (priority boarding, which again is not heard of with other airlines)
another child menu. Leg space is minimal, but with attentive staff, I'm not
complaining!

9 March 2008 Customer Trip Rating :
Purchased ticket from Cancun to Panama in January for flight in March. Arrived
to the airport and told that the flight was oversold - this after standing in
front of the check-in counter for a long period of time with lots of typing and
"checking" going on. Only after I asked, was I informed that they were looking
for someone to volunteer seats so we could fly! Ignorant customer service people
- no solutions or customer service oriented. They bumped us to a flight several
hours later - turned into an overnight ordeal (we were flying to Buenos Aires)
and we had to re-arrange airport transport and hotels in the meantime.

26 February 2008 Customer Trip Rating :
Constant problems with Copa airlines in terms of service and efficiency. Most
recent flight bumped to standby, tickets purchased in November - no explanation,
other than to say it was random. Got assigned seats, on plane 40 minutes - Copa
switched planes, had to disembark, no explanation, nowhere to get drinks. Second
plane, very hot the entire trip, beverages limited to one small glass entire
trip. Spend the extra money, fly another airline. Copa is Panama major airline
so they have you over a barrel in terms of flights offered. Some staff however
are very courteous and helpful.

JFK-PTY-SCL in Economy. Both legs on newer 737-700. JFK to PTY the service was
non-existant: some food literally thrown at us, bathrooms were dirty and smelly,
and FA's who disappeared right after collecting garbage, were grumpy. The second
leg was the opposite - nice, smiling and cheerful FA's, excellent food, free
alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages (non-stop). This made the 6-hour flight
feel shorter than the previous 5-hour flight. I cannot recall when (if ever) I
encountered an economy class service which was this good! The seat pitch is the
usual 32", the movies were presented on overhead LCD screens. If it wasn't for
the JFK-PTY leg, the airline would receive 5 stars from me.

10 January 2008 Customer Trip Rating :
Lax to Rio via Panama City was ok - nothing spectacular, nothing terrible. I
have however been having a horrible customer service experience with the airline
since. I cancelled my return to LAX to spend holidays here. At the time of
cancellation I confirmed with the agent three times that I would have the value
of the ticket for one year, and would just need to pay the fare difference to
return, and after 30 days a 125 dollar change fee. Now that 30 days has passed I
am being told that the value of my ticket has decreased and there is a set fare
difference, and after Feb 8th, it will decrease again. I have had a very
difficult time communicating with the airline and getting a clear explanation
and keep getting pushed off to another department or just not answered. My main
complaint is that I was very clear about understanding the fare rules when I
cancelled, since I am an experienced traveller - and now the rules are changed
with no explanation, documentation, etc. I have accepted that there is no
customer service for this airline (25 days through email) and will most likely
never use Copa again.

Washington Dulles to Bogota, via Panama return. Economy class has tight legroom
and uncomfortable, while business class has leather seats and is quite
comfortable. The seats and service in both classes were similar to Continental
domestic product. The food was awful on all flights. There were movies with free
headphones on the flights to/from the US. Other than an hour delay from Panama
to Bogota, the flights were on time. Nothing special but just as good as USA
carriers (which is not saying much).

9 December 2007 Customer Trip Rating :
Pty-IAD. B737-700 clean with two rounds of drinks plus dinner and a later snack.
The plane was about 75% full. IAD-PTY. Same plane, quite empty. Started meal and
drinks service two hours after take-off. I was quite hungry since taking off
from Dulles is at 5:43a.m., which turns this flight into a red-eye flight - in
the airport very early, no real previous sleep etc. Only one drink pass. Guess
that the crew wanted to take it a bit easy. The flight back and forth is a bit
past four hours each way. Since they joined SkyTeam - I stand corrected, not Sky
Alliance - they still maintain their free alcohol policy. Hub in PTY very
smooth, the same as immigration procedures.

23 September 2007 Customer Trip Rating :
PTY-EZE-PTY. Tocumen Airport is a great improvement on 2 years ago and the check
in for Elite Access was swift and friendly. The planes used were 737-800, modern
and clean although too "tight" really for a flight that is not far short of
London-New York run. FA's friendly on both legs and free bar service. The food
however was dreadful. Outbound lunch was a mean salad, congealed pasta and
dessert, a packet of Oreo cookies. A warm sandwich served before arrival. Plane
was late into EZE, then they couldn't get the airbridge to connect so we waited
15 minutes to be collected by bus. The return trip started with arrival at EZE
to be told that the incoming flight from Panama was delayed due to a technical
fault and had been reprogrammed for 0530 the following day. However the Copa
staff at EZE were apologetic and very friendly, and I was sent in a taxi to a 5
star hotel in the city, lunch and dinner included and then collected in the
early hours for the flight back to Panama. Slept for several hours, however no
pillows or blankets made it less than ideal. And the breakfast was another
dreadful meal - this time a congealed omelette. Arrival in Panama after a 17
hour delay to be greeted with a 35 minute wait to clear immigration. On the plus
side, friendly staff, on the minus too small an aircraft for the flight time and
dreadful food. Copa is investing over $350m this year and some $250m in 2008
according to reports. It is expanding mightily but I feel that a few Dollars
more on passenger comfort
would be really well spent.

Correction to Alejandro Cantons post in June 2007. Copa is not a part of Star Alliance, it is
partnered with Continental and Northwest, it is slated to join Skyteam.

10 August 2007 Customer Trip Rating :
Copa Airlines won Best Central American airline in the 2007 Skytrax Survey. Just returned from a short
trip PTY-SJO. Embraer 190, though slimmer than 737-700s and 800s have the advantage of 2x2 seating,
which are wider and more comfortable in coach. For such a short flight we were offered ham and cheese
wraps plus drinks, which included spirits. No inflight entertainment; so, bring your IPod. Their
Panorama magazine is good short flight reading. The main FA speaks English fluently and the FAs were
efficient. No time to engage in "friendly" chats on a full plane. A note of caution, for some reason
Costa Rica does not allow their airport departure tax to be included in the ticket price. And I saw
quite a few young American tourists who had spent their last penny and were having difficulty to round
up the US$26 airport tax. And at the hotels this is not mentioned.

27 July 2007 Customer Trip Rating :
LAX-PTY return. Boeing 737-800 if I'm not mistaken. The plane is quite
narrow for such a long flight meaning that you'll not get enough seat-
width. As for legroom, don't expect much even if you are medium built.
The flight attendants were relatively friendly although their English
was a little poor - they let you keep the headset as a souvenir. Overall
if you don't expect too much I guess you won't be disappointed apart
from the small planes of course.

14 June 2007 Customer Trip Rating :
PTY-LAX return. The usual B737-800. In general a bit too "tight" for a
7 hours flight. After having joined Star Alliance, it still offers free
alcoholic beverages on coach as well as free take-away-as-souvenir head
phones. FA on both legs were hard working, patient, attentive and their
English was as good as can be expected on Latin American airlines. But,
there is always one who has a higher level of speaking skills. They
helped some people to fill out the US immigration forms. That was very
thoughtful. Two movies and good enough in-flight entertainment. I
would suggest, though, that at least on the PTY-LAX run, which is during
early evening, water runs be frequent. The return portion is a real
red-eye flight, where most people prefer to sleep.

20 April 2007 Customer Trip Rating :
Panama-Kingston-Panama, Copa, Business Class: there are only 2 or 3
weekly flights between Panama and Kingston, only deserved by Copa
(except if you wish to lose your day travelling through Miami). Copa
manages to maintain a decent level of service for their Executive,
attentive service, efficient check-in at Panama City Airport (Kingston
Airport is another matter due to the airport renovation), and
comfortable seats. Some noisy people were upgraded (“hey look, we flight
Premiere”). Food was simply average, but decent, as well as wines and
liquors. In conclusion those are average flights with nothing to
complain about – already an achievement.

PTY-SJO in Business. Check In at PTY a breeze. Lounge at PTY overcrowded
and due to the number of people, it was very noisy. The seats on the
737-700 are ok. Seats on TACA are better. No Pre take off drinks
offered, but FA came around asking for the menu choice. They had Fish
fingers or a Pastrami Wrap, which I took. Service started right after
take off, the flight was 1 hour, Business was full, but service very
good. The food was tasty. Immigration at SJO was fast, baggage came
after 5 minutes waiting, all priority tagged first. Copa offers great
service in Business, but the seats should be changed.

Flew Copa Airlines for the first time this past February. The flight
crew was great, very attentive to the baby that flew in our party, the
food was ok. There were no delays, baggage issues. I would recommend
flying Copa Airlines anywhere in the Americas. Our flight was JFK-PTY-
MVD.

PTY-BOG-PTY. For a barely one hour flight both ways we were offered a
light lunch and the usual drinks, including free wine, and on the return
flight breakfast. On this short run there was no in-flight
entertainment. FAs very efficient, but not many smiles. Copa should
still push more on their English as a second language for their in-
flight personnel. As far as comfort, well, I'm just 5'7" so width and
pitch doesn't bother me, But it could be a bit tight for tall people.
Checked my baggage on the return trip and retrieved it in record time:
less than 15' after clearing immigration. I understand that Copa is
working on improving the retrieval time, which was one of its major
downsides. I would certainly not give it a 2 rating but a 3 with good
chances of going up. Panama's Tocumen airport has gone through an
amazing modernization process and the hubs function like clockwork.
Plus, the airport is comfortable, though it could add a better
restaurant. But, there are "flying dogs" --hot dog vending carts-- with
delicious products at a very reasonable price.
Copa Airlines review - Jean-Louis Vergaert
9 March 2007
Salvador to Managua, 4 March, business class: no lounge at San Salvador
airport; priority boarding; as usual with Central American airlines, the
business class seats are real business class; good service, drinks
offered prior to take-off and during flight time, although this is a 50
minutes flight only (unlike Taca). Only complain: why do they only serve
American rum in Central America, where so many good authentic local rums
are produced?

22 January 2007
JFK to PTY and it was pretty bad. I requested a seat a month and a half
ago and confirmed it the day before, but still didn't get it. Boarding
took 45 minutes due to a full flight and huge carry-ons. Getting off
took nearly as long. Never experienced anything quite like it. The seats
were hard and quite cramped, even though I had an aisle. The cabin crew
passed through literally 5 minutes before landing asking in Spanish if
anyone needed immigration papers. Since I don't speak Spanish, I didn't
get them, which delayed me at both immigration and customs. And
considering that only about 20 people disembarked in Panama (the rest
were connecting), the luggage should have come out quickly. It didn't.
All in all, hardly a 2-star airline.

21 January 2007
I just completed my second trip from LA to Colombia with COPA.
Check in not bad at all, good, friendly clerks; food is average - just like other airlines
(anyone ever had a great, abundant meal on a flight?). I agree service is rather slow but at the
greatly reduced price I paid for my ticket, it's a minor inconvenience I'm willing to
sacrifice. Attendants may be a bit less "professional" than on some airlines but friendlier. Seats lack leg space just like
on all other airlines nowadays.

LAX-PTY-GRU and return. We were traveling LAX to Sao Paulo right before
Christmas so I new that the airport would be busy. We arrived 3 hours
and 15 minutes prior to departure to find quite a long line for check
in. The line moved quite slowly and we checked in 35 minutes later. Due
to the late arrival of the incoming aircraft, boarding was delayed. The
process was quite chaotic as if it was the first time the agents had
boarded a flight. The airplane was a 737-800 and full. Copa uses
Continental seats. Unfortunately they are rock hard, even the headrest.
Legroom is tight and I new it would be a long night. The flight crew
were young and inexperienced. Service slow, and they all seemed very
unhappy. Landed at Panama City late so my connection was reduced. The
flight to Sao Paulo was half full so we could spread out. The food tray
is rather small so bring along snacks. Again, a young crew and rather
lazy. Communicating in English is a major problem. Also, there are no
Portuguese announcements made in or out of Sao Paulo. No walk throughs
and no water service. I asked politely for a glass of water and you'd
think I'd asked for their life savings. Bags did not make the
connection. On the return, both flights were full. Lazy bored cabin
staff, tiny meal and much discomfort. I have flown on most of the worlds
airlines to 151 countries. This was more like a low cost carrier. I am
amazed at the positive reviews Copa has received. One of the worst
airlines I've ever flown on. Never again.

SJO - PTY, one way, in Economy. Check In at San Jose Airport was crowded, but Staff worked
efficient, I waited 15 minutes, which is ok. Even though i'm just a regular member with Continental,
they tagged my baggage priority, nice touch. Flight on newish 737-700 left 5 minutes late. Seats are ok, legroom was great - I had exit row seat,
service is great. This was a 50 minute flight with full beverage service and and a hot chicken wrap,
which i found very tasty. We landed in Panama 10 Minutes before ETA, but on the downside, we parked
on the Apron and were bussed to the terminal. Immigration took a while due to very long line,
eventhough 8 or 9 counters were open. My bag was already circeling the belt when I entered the
baggage hall. All in all, Copa offers a very high standard product. But return flight to SJO on Taca
was better.

Return economy from Santo Domingo to San Jose, CR via Panama City this
month and I have to say that this is a great airline in the Caribbean.
The check ins at Santo Domingo and San Jose were very easy, the planes
were spotless and staff were easy to talk to and happy. What a great
contrast to American in the region where every aspect is so difficult
with slow check ins, difficult staff and constant delays.

Caracas to Panama City in economy. Connecting from AF in Caracas. The
ground staff in Caracas was efficient in getting transit passengers to
Copa flight. Inflight service was good. Better than some European
Airlines. However arrived in Panama City with my luggage missing.
Possibly due to tight connection in Caracas but the excuse from Copa
ground staff at the airport not very comforting as he said this is a
normal occurrence!

Flew with Copa on 09 Nov, Panamá - Buenos Aires, Classe Ejecutiva,
having received an upgrade. Check in was fast and efficient and Tocumen
is being upgraded and enlarged, so is getting better, so when it is
completed there should be much more space and it will seem as cramped as
at the current morning and evening hub times. Flight was very
comfortable, a modern 737-700. 4 course lunch, friendly service, no
complaints at all. And the baggage came off quickly at Buenos Aires.
The return flight was on 24 Nov, Buenos Aires > Panama, Economy Class.
Again a friendly and efficient check in in Buenos Aires, complimentary
lounge access due to my Silver Elite One Pass, which was nice. The
flight was 2/3 full, comfortable, although the food service wasn't that
great, but for Economy it is as much as one can expect nowadays. So no
complaints, and they offer full bar service. Arrival was easy as most
passengers were in transit, so straight through immigration and fast
baggage reclaim. All in all I would recommend Copa for travel in the
Americas.

I flew with Copa for the first time last Thanksgiving trip back home
(MIA-MDE via PTY). I must agree with the majority of the comments posted
regarding flight attendants' friendliness and attentiveness, although it
is difficult to communicate with them in English, even their personnel
at MIA!! Aircraft are in excellent condition, no complaints there. All
went well except for my return flight to MIA when my luggage was
damaged. So in short, Copa's transportation is great, just pray that
nothing goes wrong so that you don't have to deal with their customer
service staff.

Do you all remember the quality of the old Swissair? Well COPA Airlines
is "the Swissair
Latin America". I just flew from SJU San Juan Puerto Rico to MGA
Managua, Nicaragua on this
excellent airline. Brand new 737-700. Efficient and very well english
speaking staff. Cleanliness is
a major rule with them and the PTY Hub is absolutely efficient even with
the construction. The staff
is friendly at all stations. Aircraft turnaround on a multistop flight
almost 25 minutes.

Flew PTY - LAX - PTY between august 25 - 30 this year. The ground crew
was fast, efficient and friendly. On both legs the Boeing 737-700 was
very clean, and since I am rather short ,5'7, both pitch and width were
ok. I was impressed by the FAs serving food first to children and
passengers with special needs. By the way, Copa is one of the very few
airlines in the area still offering full meals, though they have been
downgraded a bit. On the other hand, headphones are still complimentary
and can be taken as "souvenirs". In-flight magazine quite informative
about the region. Full-bar service was offered twice in each direction,
everything complimentary, from hard liquour to beer and wine. Though
they ran out of ice for the last five rows on the onward flight, the FAs
were so apologetic that I suggested they announce that drinks would be
served European style: "al tempo." And as a final note, all the FAs had
flawless and completely understood English language management. I
recommend this airline anytime, and still wish they'd fly to Europe. It
would be a great experience.

CAR-PAN AND PAN-SJO Just to add to recent comments as to what a great little airline this is. New
737-700 aircraft, excellent service with good meals and individual questions from the crew as to how
you found the flight. On time departures and arrivals and very helpful indeed during a very rushed
transit at Panama. Could not be faulted.

JFK-PTY-EZE return. JFK ground crew were lovely despite the odd
departure hour (5 AM) - and even passed out a survey in the boarding lounge before departure to ask
for pax opinions on ground service; nice to see they care. Upgrade to Ejecutiva on JFK-PTY, which
is like a domestic first class. Two-course, tasty breakfast 2 hours prior to landing in PTY (around
8am). Flight delayed out of JFK due to deicing, putting us in PTY with 20 minutes for myself and my
luggage to make it - i went sprinting from one end of PTY to the other (which only takes 10
minutes), and as I went running up the EZE gate, I was greeted with a friendly smile by the gate
agent, who said "New York?". And, I couldn't believe it, but when I sat down in the plane, i saw a
bus pull up with a few bags clearly from the JFK flight, including by two bags, and they were loaded
on - I was officially impressed with Copa's PTY operation. On board lunch so-so and sub-standard
snack before arrival (chips and a granola bar). COPA has a great, efficient operation and is
understandably the envy of many airlines in the Americas. This airline is going far, and PTY is a
great base, they keep it running well, and it should be even better when renovations are complete.
My two complaints are minor and the following: 1) It would be lovely if long-haul flights were not
on 737's - unfortunately there's not too much one can do about that. 2) Make economy meals a bit
more substantial / add another item, be it a side dish or desert (as of now, meals consist of a
salad, entree, and roll - that's it!). On that note, the pax were constantly calling that
fa's,
who understandably had to be tired - but if they just came around ever hour or so with water, which
would take 5 minutes, it would probably reduce the number of calls by 50%. Overall, great job by
Copa. If I could fly non-stop I still would, but, if I had to change planes to get to my
destination and Copa flew the route, I would be happy to fly them again.

I live in Las Vegas and fly frequently to Buenos Aires throughout the year--have started using COPA
from LAX and it's amazing. Quick hop to LAX and then a one stop in Panama City and on to EZE.
Flights are always on-time and despite the extremely close (55 min) changeover at Panama/Tocumen,
I've never missed the connection. Aircraft are late-model B-737 which makes them tight, especially
in the economy class; that stop halfway through at Panama allows just enough time to stretch the
legs. Tocumen has seen better days but in a way it's quaint , a little squalid, and friendly. Food
on COPA is fair--better than a US carrier but inferior to LAN Chile and IFE is limited. What makes
the service is the warmth and friendliness of the FA's.

3 January 2005
I just flew three times in the last two months with Copa. LAX to PTY, and then a week later PTY to
SCL, and then LIM to LAX via PTY. I always fly Copa to South America from LAX because they have an
excellent schedule that gets me into Lima (my primary destination) in the early afternoon as opposed
to many other carriers that get in during the middle of the night. They also leave Lima in the
afternoon, so I can have a leisurely breakfast before heading to the airport. The seats could be
more comfortable with more leg room, particularly on the long haul flights (PTY to SCL and PTY to
LAX--both about 7+ hours). The food could be a bit better. But what really sells me on this
airline is the friendliness of the cabin crew, they are so willing to make your trip enjoyable. The
connection at PTY is always seamless and there's even time to have a quick coffee or beer at Tocumen
before getting on the next flight. Most of the personnel at Tocumen are also very friendly and
helpful. The airline was very willing to work with me to change some travel dates for a very
nominal fee, not at all what I expected considering that this open jaws ticket was a frequent flyer
ticket. The only unpleasant experience is with the check in personnel at LAX who were rude and
yelled at the travelers.

Classe Ejecutiva from Miami to Buenos Aires and back via Panama. The
airport check in was adequate, Panama's airport is in decay, the flight attendants were attentive,
friendly and helpful, even with hotel suggestions and where not to go in Panama.( they told us in
mid flight that our return flight to MIA had been discontinued two months before making our
reservation). They even went to the captain, concerned about our situation, to prearrange our
accommodation in Panama for the night (which ended up being a suite). The food was less than
adequate and the seats were domestic first class seats, not suitable for long haul.
All in all, it was the best Latin American airlines I have taken, because of the service.
Copa is marginal in my rating. But the flight attendants make up for it threefold in their service,
smiles, laughs and a dedicated willingness to please their passengers.

Just finished RT from SJO to PTY (55 minutes each way). Good concise service and aligned to
expectations. C Class US$550. Service is way much better than the other regional carrier TACA.,
which has lost itself by not defining themselves as Cheap as they are, while believing charging
US$8 for meals -which is a shame for the 3-day stale sandwich- is good value for money.

Nowadays, its punctuality rate is terrific, and the whole face-lift of the airline landed them Best
Central American airline.
Keep up the good work and strive to become at least the Best in Latin America.
Now that it is so difficult to go to Europe or Asia without a visa to the US, how about flying from
Panama to Europe on route to Asia?

Just flew on Copa from Panama City to Santiago and then from Buenos Aires to Panama City. The 737's
we flew on were fantastic. They were clean and the new jets are vastly improved from previous
models. The attention we received from the flight attendAnts was great in the regular seats and in
first class. This airline is going far.

since 1992. Your airline has tremendously improved over the years.
Congratulations! What makes me
laugh and frightens me at the same time is the English pronunciation of your cabin-staff. If the
announcements are part of a security-program, there is no security at all. A "sibe" is a seat-belt
and when I have English speaking people sitting next to me they only can shake their head. So my
recommendation is: Try to improve your cabin staffs pronunciation, make them speak accented and make
them speak slower, so that everyone can understand their announcements.
Crítica constructiva! Nada más y nada menos!
