PER-CAN-PER December 2011. If China Southern is trying to encourage international travel to and from
Australia, I would suggest they checkout other airlines in the region to get a feel for what Service means.
Had to make several attempts just to get some water on my flights, food was terrible and not hot, and the
cabin staff cannot speak or understand English. No info from the flight deck! This was in premium economy - I
would hate to see what economy class is like. Entertainment - what entertainment?

Flew CZ a couple of times recently on Shanghai Hongqiao-Changsha, Kunming-Lijiang. Brand new A320 very
clean, all on time departure and arrival which is rare for Chinese domestic flight. Decent service with good-
quality food and drinks, China Southern improved their quality of service a lot since they joined Skyteam.

Seoul-Guangzhou-Vancouver. Very pleasant experience with attentive staff. Everything was on time, food was
tasty and attendants helpful and nice. Entertainment system had some glitches, but I did not care much.

Amsterdam to Auckland via Beijing and Guangzhou. A 24 hrs flight with this airline gives me a good overall
impression of the company. Brand new A330s brings many advantages: quiet, clean, good entertainment
system (but bad selection of movies). Also quite a lot of leg room in Economy. However the food served was
really bad, the crew did not smiles with poor English skills. The ground facilities in China are not the best,
with lots of unnecessary immigration and security checks even though I was only transiting. Overall ok
because the planes on this route are new, but I have had better experiences on all the other airlines I have
used before from Europe to NZ.

SYD-CAN-SYD return in First on a brand new A330-300. Excellent product. 180 degree flat bed with nice pj's
and a bvlgari amenity kit. Turn down service is personal, with a nice thin mattress and an undercover. Large
pillows and comfortable duvet Food is so so for first class standards. IFE is good with some new hollywood
movies. Service personal and not interrupting. Flight were on time. Only downside is the lack of champagne
onboard. Overall, very good value for money in First. Would defiantly fly them again.

Sydney-Guangzhou-Sydney. A330-300 both legs. IFE was a bulkhead screen. They had two movies for the 9
hour trip but one of them didn't work, so they showed the one movie on a loop. Food was serviceable from
SYD. Almost inedible from CAN. Choice of a red or white wine, beer or juices. Nothing served cold. Seat
was reasonably comfortable with the extra legroom in PE. Other than to refill paper, toilets were not cleaned
the whole trip. Staff are pretty much Mandarin speaking only. They served food and then were not seen
again for 5 hours.

Very hit and miss. The leg from Amsterdam via Beijing to Guangzhou was relatively comfortable, newish
plane, good entertainment system with English movies included, fairly palatable food. The leg from
Guangzhou to Brisbane (and later, Sydney to Guangzhou) was pretty mediocre - no individual screens, poor
food. The actual flights are bearable - what lets this company down is the organisation. Both at Guangzhou
and Beijing, no-one had any idea of where to go, staff members spoke little English. Online check-in proved
impossible for us. Other than this, the actual flights aren't too bad and certain legs were actually much better
than expected.

Sydney to Taiyuan. After selecting CZ for the good connection, they cancelled the return domestic flight at
16.00 and rebooked me on 11.30 flight which left me waiting in CAN for more than 7 hours. Check-in in
Sydney and return was efficient and unproblematic, with bags checked through all the way to the final
destination. Long haul 777-200 and Airbus 330-300 had very uncomfortable seats (not insulated against
engine vibrations, no headrests). Substandard IFE - so bring your own laptop. Flight attendants professional,
food fair. Transfer and Immigration in CAN very fast, friendly and professional.

A tale of two airlines. Sydney-Guangzhou-Melbourne in Premium Economy. What a contrast between 2 flights.
Sydney-Guangzhou was an airbus with a 2-3-2 configuration. The seats were like the old Qantas business
class seats and were more than adequate. The food was hot and tasty and the staff friendly and courteous.
The IFE was very poor and the TV screens must have been the original 4 or 5 inch units which were blurred
and fuzzy. Fortunately we had our iPads to watch some movies on. The return flight was a totally different
story. The seats were 2-4-2 and were exactly the same as the economy seats behind. The only difference was
more leg room. There was no PTV and the IFE was on the fixed panels on the bulk heads. The food was
awful, the toilets were filthy and smelt. The stewardess assigned to our section was sullen and did not smile
once.

PEK-TAS-PEK new A330. Good seats, ok food. Unfortunately IFE didn't work and we were given portable DVD devices,
they had only bad movies on them. Inbound and outbound staff very different but in general okay service. Classic
China phenomenon, beer is warm. Flights were on time though.

Dhaka-Guangzhou-Vancouver. First leg on an older 737. I had very low expectations for this flight, and was
pleasantly surprised. The service was better than expected, and the food edible. The IFE was non-existent.
Second leg on a newer 777 in Premium Economy. Very comfortable seats, but flight attendants spoke little
English. The food was nothing special, and the IFE terrible. All seats were equipped with PTVs, but the
picture quality was poor and English selection limited to one movie.

KUL-Nanning via CAN. Almost brand new planes on all 4 sectors and very well maintained and clean. The flight
attendants did what they were supposed to do and nothing more. No drink runs for a flight of almost 4 hours and
after meals were served the flight attendants practically disappeared in the galley. Announcements were scarce and
incomprehensible most of the time.

Vancouver-Nepal-Vancouver. Flew on newer B777, seats comfortable, staff great, food was excellent - however, my
wife and I had TV probs and could not watch much of anything. Our return home we flew an older B777. Rather beat up
and the seat cushions were hard on the butt. TV worked though. The staff was great as was the food. The rules for
carry on luggage is a joke. We made sure we had the right size, weight and amount. Only to find out the other 99%
did what they wanted and got no hassle from the staff. One guy had 6 carryons, his wife 4 and the way they were
grunting and groaning, it may have weighed about 23kgs each.

I know China Southern may not have the best reputation, but have just flown to Amsterdam from Guangzhou, on a brand
new A330. In business class it was great, flat bed very comfortable and a great nights sleep. The evening meal was
excellent for and service was OK. If they guaranteed planes like this for long haul, I would use them all the
time.

SYD-CAN-ICN return on B777-200ER, A321, A330-300. Sydney-Guangzhou older and very tired looking B777,
cramped 10 abreast seating, cabin crew attentive but disinterested, catering adequate. Guangzhou-Incheon more
pleasant flight on A321 with wider seats but marginally smaller seat pitch. Incheon-Guangzhou cabin crew were
unable to finish announcing in English that landing would be delayed due to weather (had to ask another
passenger). Guangzhou-Sydney newer A330-300, comfortable seats, bad catering, filthiest lavatories I have seen.
