Binter Canarias Star Ranking
Binter Canarias - by Paul Owen

I fly regularly with Binter between Las Palmas and Tenerife. I find the
airline generally punctual (except for extreme weather conditions -
usually at Tenerife North) and the staff very attentive. Fares can be
pricey but if you choose your flight times during the day you can get
some good deals. Occasionally I have flown with Islas Airways but have
found them unreliable and subject to flight cancellations which has been
most inconvenient. Their ground staff also tend to be uncommunicative.

I can't believe what Mr. Cartwright is saying about Binter Canarias. I'm a Canarian
native (and aviation fan) and due to my job I often (usually once a week) fly with
Binter Canarias. The only true is that the price is very expensive for such a short
trip. For the rest, nothing is true. Binter planes almost always depart on time. I
must say that in 6 years flying weekly I remember just a few cases in which the plane
departed later or simply didn't depart, and almost always it was due to unusual
strong weather or other reasons not directly related to Binter. The fleet is modern
(ATR- 72-200 and 500, the ATR-42's were sold) and comfortable (remember we're talking
about an ATR. Just don't compare it to a B-737 or A-320), and the newer airplanes are
much less noisy than earlier versions, because of the use of six-blades twisted
propellers. The service on-board is nice and I've never had any incident while flying
with Binter. The ATR fleet is not newer nor older than that of Binter. It's the same
ATR-72 (well, they fly the ATR-42, too).

As a Briton living in Las Palmas, I often use Binter Canarias between the islands. I
have found them extremely expensive, even with my 35% Canarian resident's discount
(77€ for the 25 min LPA-TFN return flight) to travel on an uncomfortable, noisy,
usually delayed ATR-72. When the delay is more than an hour, it is impossible to get
info because of the total absence of airside ground staff. The flights that it
subcontracts to NAYSA (Beechcraft 19 passengers) are far better. Islas Airways, a
subsidiary of Santa Barbara Airline has started operations on some of the same
routes, with the same, but newer planes, at a lower cost and better service.

Binter Canarias is a reliable no frills inter island commuter service. There is really not much more
to add! I have used them frequently ,and there is little to elaborate about this basic commuter
service.!
