I have used Air Berlin for a range of flights between Germany and the UK in the past and I have to say, that all of them were pleasant, on time, with newish planes and good customer service. After taxes etc. I usually ended up paying a similar amount to flying with a budget airline and the service was excellent in comparison. Shame they don't fly to Southampton anymore as their competitor Flybe is unfortunately rather unreliable and has caused me a fair few headaches.

Stansted-Hanover return. Check in at Stansted easy.No problem choosing seats. After take off flight attendents offer choice of Pretzel or Muffin with Tea or coffee free. I had one Beer costing 2.50 eur which was reasonable. Hanover Airport is fantastic - off Aircraft and collected bags in 20 mins. Return flight light snack and refreshments provided free. For the price we paid which was booked last year we got value for money and will be using them in the future.

HAJ to STN and return. Friendly staff, timely departure and arrival. Checked in at a touchscreen computer in the terminal and was able to choose my seat (14 F at the emergency exit). Airbus 319 made a good and new impression. After landing in Stansted the plane had to wait 5-10 minutes due to the gate still being occupied by another plane, thus only 9/10.

Return flight DUS - BKK economy, fair price for fair quality. My only remark was that the seats were for me a bit too cramped. But staff was friendly on both flights, food good, entertainment system ok. And check in went smoothly.

STN to HAJ and return. Excellent service, better than BA or LH, at excellent price. Email invitation to online check-in very useful, good seats in row 3. Friendly and efficient ground staff at both airports. Food & drink at no extra charge. Both flights comfortable and on time. It's flying like it used to, and should be. It's a pity though that Berlin is the one place Air Berlin do NOT fly to (any more) from London.

The whole experience was not positive at all. Starting with check-in, which was taking sometimes more than 20 minutes for one passenger/family. Slow check-in caused late departure, which lead for missing connection flight. Food was very poor and kids meals, which were ordered for more than 2 months ahead of flight, were never delivered. Entertainment on board marginal and boring. With this type of service, Air Berlin will not find loyal passengers. I definitely will not refer Air Berlin to my friends.

LAX-DUS-BCN. On time departure, comfortable seating, helpful and friendly attendants, nifty little packages of earplugs, toothpaste/brush, socks. Inflight food and entertainment was good - impressive selection of wines. Upon approaching DUS, we had to fill out Swine Flu questionnaires for the German Govt. They were only in German, which I'm not great with. Attendant sat with each row and translated as best he could, even acting out the words -went above and beyond anyone's expectations. Connection to Barcelona was equally impressive. And my fare was cheap.

Malaga to Vienna via Hamburg and back. Overall experience very pleasant. After the hassles of free seating with Easyjet and Ryanair, it was a pleasure to select your seats online. Planes were new A321s, seats comfortable. They serve a sandwich and soft drinks free of charge (anything else is charged). Cabin crew friendly. Announcements in German and English easy to follow. We were late leaving Malaga and I was worried about a very tight connection in Hamburg. Asked the stewardess. She smiled and said that she would see me on the flight to Vienna as we were flying the same aircraft through! This happened on the return journey as well so I just had to disembark, walk around and reboard through the same gate. Very convenient. I would fly them again. My only grouse was that the ticket was not cheap. There are not too many choices on this route.

HEL-DUS-VIE-TXL-HEL with stopovers at VIE and TXL. All flights with 737-700 were on time. Internet check in easy to use with seat selection of our choice. Baggage drops were quick by friendly staffs. Cabins were clean, legroom the same as national carriers, inflight magazines available as well as entertainment from some TV-monitors. Soft drinks and snacks free of charge, other beverages offered for acceptable price. Good service by FAs with smiles. This airline offers far better service than some European airlines have in the same market.

Ground staff and onboard extremely helpful and attentive. Seville to Palma and Palma to Barcelona, and again everything great in the two flights. Attention of attendants on board and check-in was good. New and clean aircraft, inflight magazine of excellent quality and magazine purchases on board (Boardshop) with excellent prices and quality products.

Return flight to Nuremberg. Faultless from first encounter on website to final disembarkation on return journey. Booking simple. Text invite to reserve seats worked perfectly both ways. Service at checkin and inflight exemplary. Very comfortable. Clean aircraft. This is a 5 star airline with 2 star prices. When I compare this trip with Ryanair I find it very difficult to comprehend that these two companies are, in theory at least, in the same business.

MUC-CGN. Online booking, got the absurd fare of EUR1.00 plus taxes. Check-in at MUC swift and the very personable agent not only ignored the 25kg weight of my bag, but asked me about my seat preference. Onboard, the seat was more than comfortable, and the FA's were efficient and pleasant. Presentation of the aircraft was excellent, and the flight departed and arrived on time. Luggage waiting at carousel when I reached it. The AB signature chocolate on disembarking is a very nice touch, and shows that AB is serious about placing itself ahead of its competitors in the mind of the consumer. An excellent experience throughout, and will fly AB again without question, even above other carriers who may offer a lesser fare on the same route.

DUS-TXL and TXL-CGN in economy. Both flights on time. An A319 was used from Dusseldorf with comfortable slim Recaro seats. On the 45 minute flight a snack and soft drink was served at no extra cost. From Berlin we flew a 737-700 also with comfortable seating. Again a snack and soft drink service was provided. On both flights chocolates were handed out when disembarking. Friendly and helpful personnel, comfortable seats, and all this at a reasonable price. I will be more than happy to fly with Air Berlin again.

MUC-PMI-ALC-MUC. First leg in a new 737-800. New cabin with leather seats was quite nice. Second leg on a 737-700: older cloth seats with less legroom. 3rd leg on a new 320 with leather seats. Seat comfort is okay with fair legroom and recline. But LH and BA offer more. Still, Air Berlin is better than some no frills airline. Staff was effective and friendly but they did not communicate enough when the last flight was delayed. Announcements would have been nice. A tasty sandwich was offered. You have to pay for alcoholic drinks. I didn`t like the onboard entertainment. It is remarkable that they offer IFE on these short flights, but so you also have to watch advertising clips.

Trip from Dresden to Stansted via Düsseldorf yesterday was a nightmare. Over 2 hours delay - ok the weather was bad in Dresden but we were told things were bad in Düsseldorf so no panic about connections. On arrival about 100 people had to queue to sort how they got further - only one very slow incompetent female on the transfer desk. They rebooked me 4 hours later, then arrival in Stansted - no luggage, and on a business trip to boot. 24 hours later my bag is still in Düsseldorf. For my last business trip I actually paid less money to fly Lufthansa- and was properly looked after. Cheap airline - forget it.All may be great when nothing goes wrong - but if it does they just cannot cope.

Of the 6 flights I've taken within Germany and to Finland in the last weeks none was on time (minimum delay 20 minutes up to 1.5 hours), planes rather cramped and ground service is grumpy if not non-existent. Onboard service is usually okay, sometimes smiling (despite the annoying and ongoing commercial show that an AB flight turns into) but lacks consistency - it's better domestic than on European routes where alcohol is available against payment only and the free snacks are hardly edible (the buy-on-board food however is good if expensive).

Alicante - Palma de Mallorca - Copenhagen economy. The flight was timely and checkin and boarding fast. The flights was modern with above average legroom for a low-price airline. We were served a small snack and water between Alicante and Mallorca, and a nice sandwich with a wide selection of non-alcoholic drinks. It was also possible to by a warm meal. All in all a nice trip for a low price airline.
