VIE-HEL-VIE Both flights an old Fokker 100 aircraft. Seating in Economy is okay, but if taller than 190cm, you might find it a bit narrow. A hot meal and dessert was served on both flights and choice of drinks (alcoholic + non-alcoholic) above average. Many newspapers in German and English were available. Due to a new mobile-phone bording pass with mobile check-in that allows you to be at Vienna Airport just 30 mins before departure.

STR-VIE in Business. Aircraft old but well-maintained. Good on-board catering for short flight. Seats comfortable enough for flight length. Flight on time. No priority boarding. Lounge access in STR is through Lufthansa.

VIE to LHR in Business. The Senator lounge is small but sufficient seats when I was there, together with some rather tasty Chickpeas soup and chocolate mousse. Welcomed onboard by a smiling cabin crew. Inflight, the service began with lunch and drinks, a choice of 2 red and 2 white wines which were offered with the meal. The meal was good and service was excellent.

VIE-CGN-VIE November 2010. The plane outgoing was an old F100, worn out and the seat pitch was small. Crew friendly, newspaper in German and English offered and drinks and a little breakfast (a joke, it was a mini croissant) served. On the incoming flight the plane pas also an old F100, but it was not as worn out that the first one. The flight was on time. The food served was hard to identify what it was. I was surprised they served wine.

DBV-VIE-BUD return and DBV-VIE return - a pity where this once good airline has finished. Planes look quite old, some staff friendly, so not so much. Catering is okay, for 25min flight VIE-BUD one would not expect anything, but on 90min flight DBV-VIE definitely something better than choice between apple and chocolate - especially when the fare is more than 300€.

London-Vienna-Dubai and back. Check-in at LHR was poor, with no business class check-in desk operating. Boarding for all segments was unimpressive, with no priority for business class passengers. Food excellent – particularly Vienna to Dubai, but there were no pre-flight drinks (not even soft drinks). Seats disappointing : Vienna to Dubai was a B767 with seats that felt very narrow and quite cramped, and not great for sleeping. Vienna/LHR was a B737 with very tight legroom. Amazingly, there wasn’t an on-demand movie system on long-haul aircraft. To add to all of this, the lounge at Dubai was full – there weren’t any seats in the section for Gold Card holders. All-in-all, not a great experience, and not one I would recommend. Fare was around the same as Virgin Premium Economy, which I think would be a better deal.

London-Vienna-Beijing business. Check in at LHR T1 with Star Gold exclusive check in was a breeze. London-Vienna adequate, meal not up to Austrian standards (more like an adequate long haul economy meal). Vienna transfer easy (although never fun to be bussed), VIE non-schengen OS lounge is dire, but Vienna-Beijing very friendly staff, first class food service. The service and food make OS exceptional in long haul business. B767 angled-lie flat seat is ok, IFE is dated (not on demand).

JFK to Vienna return several times. Vienna is one of the easiest transit airports in Europe. Austrian staff is friendly and helpful. IFE great, a personal tv at every seat. B767-300 has a little bit more leg room than the B777-200.

VIE-IAD B777-200. Had an equipment change from a B767-300 three weeks prior to trip. Sat in economy, seat 33A -an empty seat next to me, so that added to the comfort. Legroom was restricted, but seat reclined a good bit. Armrests moveable so I was able to stretch out. If middle seat was occupied, I would have been pretty uncomfortable. Inflight entertainment was great. Food superb for airline food -- best I've had on an airline. The crew provided excellent service with a smile for this 9 hour flight.

FRA-VIE-Sarajevo return. All flights on time. FRA-VIE codeshare with Luthansa, drinks and some sort of buscuits. VIE-SJJ an Austrian A319, plane clean, well maintained, onboard service is ok for a 50 mins flight, drinks and a chocolate bar offered. Return the same. Check-in at Sarajevo airport easy, and took less then 3 mins. Friendly ground staff. VIE-FRA - Austrian much better service then Lufthansa on the same route. Evening flight was full, but despite that, nice service on board, professional crew, got drinks and Salat box with bread by DO&CO. Very tasty.

TXL-VIE-TXL, both on B737-800. Everything was alright, but considering the fact that both flights left in the early morning the food was pathetic. We were given the choice of an apple or a chocolate bar! Austrian is still a full fare airline and should treat its paying customers accordingly.

FCO-VIE, A321 going and B738. Comfortable seat and pleasant flight on both aircraft. Crew was adequate. They served just a snack. In Rome no jetbridges provided both departing and arriving. Captain on outbound flight complained about late bus arrival to take us to the terminal, considering our flight landed with a 20 minutes delay. Such a service seemed to be usual in Rome, although Austrian has no responsibility on it.

VIE-ZRH-VIE Economy. Easy check-in via web-check-in and Baggage drop at Vienna Central Station. Lounge at Vienna nothing special, food very limited in the afternoon, just cake and soup. Only at 4:30pm they start to offer additional choices. Onboard snack service provided a boxed salad and soft drinks. Like the variation in type of salad they introduced - but after a few weeks it's obvious that they only have 3 different choises. The seats on this "old" A321 are very comfortable in contrast to the "new" Austrian B737-leather seats on return fligt. So even a 1 hour flight can be a torture. On return, used web check-in. Airport baggage drop-off at Check-In 3 quite easy and lounge nice. Good variety of drinks and hot meals change now very often. Flight left on time, served drinks and small sandwich with a cake. Crew friendly, but sometimes quite disinterested.

Stuttgart-Vienna. We were delayed from LHR but were greeted by Austrian agent at the door of our plane and rushed to our next flight. F70, flight was full and departed on time. There were 2 cabin staff for 80 people. One of these ladies was flustered and the other very professional. The plane, although old was clean, although the seating was a bit tight. For a 1 hr flight we were served chocolate and drinks, which was adequate. Luggage was offloaded very quickly. Austrian will have to look at upgrading these smaller planes as they are ageing.

DXB-VIE-DXB in Business on B767-300. The cabin was clean but you can't help but notice the age of the aircraft. Business class seat must have been the most narrow lie-flat seat I have ever tried. The inflight entertainment was ancient with bad screens and only a few movies not on demand. DXB-VIE only a light snack (soup or dry sandwiches) and breakfast before landing was served. Cabin crew very friendly but close to retirement. VIE-DXB leg, excellent food served - arabic mezze starter served from trolley with a choice of 3 mains and dessert and cheese with great coffee. Vegetable samosas served prior to landing. Again crew friendly but very little cabin presence during the flight so had to go to the galley to get drinks. Amenity kit and amenities in bathrooms very poor. Definitely not up to par with business class on other 4-star airilines.

LHR to VIE and back economy. Chaotic checking in at LHR, Austrian share with Lufthansa. Long lines, and a dozy agent who in spite of studying my passport for some while gave me a boarding card in the wrong name which I did not spot until I was at the gate. Luckily the agents there believed me rather than the boarding card. Plane clean, crew civil and a sandwich provided with a drink. The seats rather hard and cramped. Return from Vienna check-in was quick and friendly, flight was actually provided by BMI. More comfortable seats than Austrian, sandwich also provided. Clean aircraft and professional crew, they coped well when there was a medical emergency on board. At £79 return fare all included a bargain.

Dubai to Vienna to Budapest return and would never do so again with Austrian. On the first leg the aircraft stank when we boarded - as if the loos hadn't been cleaned for days. The temperature was so high that most passengers were complaining within 10 minutes and asked for the heat to be turned down. Despite cabin crew assurances, this never got done and we roasted all the way to Vienna. The food was mediocre by airline standards and the only entertainment system was a selection of overhead TV screens showing a poor selection of films. The second leg on Tyrolean managed to serve a cup of coffee and a bottle of water, but it made even British Airways coffee seem not so bad after all! Vienna Airport may be efficient, but it is not a welcoming airport in any sense of the word and there are far too few seats in the assembly area before boarding. The journey back was equally as poor. Never again with Austrian.

We will never fly Austrian again. I understand the medical emergency that forced an unexpected landing. The ticket agents, however, are not accomodating and just plain rude. We missed our connecting flight in Vienna because of this emergency. We stood in line for 2 hours to rebook our flight while other people were allowed to cut in front of us because their needs were somehow greater than our own. While waiting in line, we missed the next flight out of Vienna. We were finally rebooked onto a flight that left 11.5 hours after arriving there. They wouldn't give us a hotel voucher, because the layover wasn't at least 12 hours. Every time we had a question for a ticket agent, we were treated very rudely. It was as if we were interrupting some important gossip from co-workers.

Only biscuit was served on the flight to Vienna. Vienna to London, they served stale salad and biscuits. However, the crew treated us nicely and call button attended quickly.

VIE-ZRH-VIE Economy. Used web check-in, very smooth for flights leaving Vienna. Baggage drop- off at Vienna Central Station easy and fast. Lounge at Vienna nothing special and can get very crowed at peak times. Food offer very limited, only soup and cakes in the afternoon - but at least they differ from time to time. Onboard snack service provided a boxed salad, soft drinks were provided in the can, not only a glass. Salad was a nice touch when introduced 2 month ago - but till now it is always the same kind of caesar's salad, now variation in this respect. So it gets odd after a while. The leather seats on their B737 are very hard and uncomfortable - and that even on a 1 hour flight! On return, used web check-in - which is still not easy to navigate through when departing Switzerland, but you get used to it once you find out how it works. At the airport, baggage drop-off quite easy and lounge nice. Good variety of drinks and hot meals change every month... Flight nothing special, except for the fact that the seats on this B737 were older fabric seats which were more comfortable. They served some drinks, this time again only in a glass - and the small, well known sandwich with a cake. A big downturn on this flight were the FA's: unfriendly, in a steady rush, no smile, nothing. Luggage came this time quite fast after arrival. After observing this route now for 2 months I have to say that standards differ pretty much. Sometimes you get a glass of drinks, sometimes you get a full can. Sometimes you get a nice salad, sometimes it is only a small sandwich. The crew can be very friendly, charming and smiling - or very disinterested, rude and unfriendly.

BCN-VIE-AMS. BCN is a great airport, but Austrian Airlines handling agent is not good. Boarding started late with no priority boarding. B737-800 with the most cramped seating I have seen - worse than charter. The seats are leather but hugely uncomfortable. Staff cold and curt. A nice hot meal was served but I was devastated by the drink service in business class. After the meals were handed out a flight attendant appeared with a of average white wine, she poured everyone a glass and that was it. Arrival at VIE totally frustrating. ALthough the plane docks at the C-Terminal (Schengen), passengers are deplaned by stairs into waiting busses - takes ages. Then bussed back to the entry point of non-Shengen. I think this is done to assure that the few passengers that have short connections to non-Shengen destinations will make their flight, but to delay the other 150 with 30 minutes is unacceptable. I like the lounge at Vienna, but like all Austrian staff, there are no smiles, friendly faces or helpful words. My connection to Amsterdam was on a spacious Fokker 100. The business cbin is lovely with seat kept empty and a lot of legroom. Catering again excellent, but once again only the one bottle of wine and no choice. I believe the wine is served in both Economy and Business.

VIE-FRA Business Class. Used Business Upgrade at 99 EUR during online check-in. Used lounge at the airport - nice assortment of drinks, but range of food limited to soup and cake in the afternoon. Boarding frustrating as they first asked passengers in the rear of the plane to board and explicitly asked Business Passengers to wait (although Hon Circle and Senators were asked to board whenever they want - not the best way to treat Business Class passengers). Welcomed by the FA's, first round of drinks served, then a nice meal. Hot and cold drinks were frequently served. A nice touch is the empty middle seat, but seat pitch is still the same as in economy and row 1 has very limited seat pitch due to the galley.

NRT-VIE-BKK on B777-200 in Business Class. Priority boarding on both flights. Onboard catering was excellent and one of the best I've experienced so far. Having a chef on board was a nice touch. Seats comfortable and easy to sleep, but not when in the flat position. I found that a slight adjustment towards the cradle position from the flat was perfect. Comfort amenities very nice. Service overall quite good but a little inconsistent on the 2 flights - FAs were friendly and helpful. Flights generally on time.

VIE-DXB Business Class on a B767, seat 1D. Aircraft may be getting old and entertainment system is completely outdated, but this is made up for by crew and exceptional dining. Check- in at the CAT terminal in central Vienna works very well, and access to the airport is easy with the train. My departure was on a very hot Saturday in July, and it seems that the airport does not have air conditioning, not even in the Business Lounge. Tasty ravioli by Do&Co served in the lounge, and usual selection of snacks and drinks. Flights between Vienna and Dubai are considered medium haul flights by Austrian, featuring the Premium Service concept in Business Class. Nice Middle Eastern touches added to the meal service, including special china as well as menu items not featured on other flights. Unfortunately the service concept lacks some of the finesse of Austrian long haul flights, such as an inflight chef and the full coffee menu. An extensive selection of starters are served from a trolley with soup following. However, the main course is not plated onboard and there is no abuse-bouche to start the meal. The cheese and dessert selection is also limited. Business Class seats on the B767 are slightly more narrow than those on the B777, but still make for a comfortable rest. Before arrival in Dubai a light snack was served. Fast Track immigration available on arrival in Dubai. As it turned out my suitcase had been damaged during the flight, but it was replaced by Austrian the following day, with a new, identical suitcase delivered to my hotel. Overall yet another great experience with Austrian.
