I booked my husbands trip to Damascus before all of the trouble began in Syria, paid roughly
$650 for a flight from Vienna to Damascus. When I called to cancel the flight for flight credit
in light of the situation in Syria, I was told firmly that was not an option. Never again
Austrian Airlines!

HAM-VIE-BKK and back in Economy. B777 on both international flights. Seat recline not as much
as other airlines Legroom okay. Dinner ok, breakfast a joke. No AVOD. Flight Attendants with a
smile.

Left 1hr late from AMS, arrived to Vienna 40 minutes late, just when connecting Austrian flight
should leave. Put me in line for an hour at 8 pm, taxi to hotel at 10 pm, arrived at 11pm, no
food, no restaurant, but rebooked for the flight at 6am - so taxi picked me up at 4 am.

LHR to DEL via VIE. Check in at London was efficient. The flight to Vienna is about 2 hours
and only a muffin in the way of breakfast, crew were pleasant and efficient. Vienna is not a
bad airport for transit as it is small and therefore quick so despite the short connecting
time there was no stress. The gate once through security is rather too small with not enough
seating for a larger aircraft. The onward aircraft was a 767 which was comfortable and seemed
well maintained, if a little dated. The entertainment system was personal screens, but not on
demand so you need to wait for the next cycle. The crew were efficient, if a little older and
less smiles than on the short haul flight. The food was of good quality, but again of
insufficient quantity. Both flights were on time. The Austrian experience seems a little
provincial, but friendly and an efficient alternative.

Boeing 737-700 and Tyrolean (Fokker 70) on a recent trip Tirana to Chisinau via Vienna. In the
past they were my favourite choice for flights between my home town and Europe, today they're
a mere memory of what they used to be. A muffin and an apple was the total food intake
Austrian offered on these two flights that lasted around 1 hour and 40 minutes each. I was
expecting at least a sandwich - soon you'll have to pay for a glass of water. They didn't lose
my bags, they got me home on time, FAs weren't super friendly, but did their job OK, but
Austrian is certainly not the boutique airline it used to be. They're going downhill big time!

Vienna-JFK-Vienna. Outbound flight had a pet (!) in coach cabin. Asked crew who looked
bothered to be reseated due to allergy and they finally found me a new seat. What kind of
4-star airline allows a pet on the main cabin of a passenger jet? Seat cramped and IFE not
video on demand. Food good and crew so so, some smiling and others being downright hostile.
Inbound flight same type of half & half crew. B777 showed its age and somewhere over Iceland
the flight attendant call button got stuck and the chime could not be turned off, resulting in
the awakening of everyone onboard. The biggest disappointment was the crew. Nothing 4-star
about this airline at all when compared to Lufthansa, BA or Air France.

VIE-HEL on F100. The cabin felt warm with nice seats and colourful head rests. Two friendly
FA's served dinner in Y class on this intra-European evening flight. Red and white wine was
poured liberally. Bussing to plane and to terminal, but the flight itself was pleasant.

Vienna-Delhi terrible. Old plane no space for overhead luggage. An 8 hour flight with no PTV screen - try to occupy children without that!
There was the old style screen up ahead in the aisle, with no clear view and no program choice.
Cabin crew seemed to be hiding, waited ages for someone to come for a drink of water.

LHR-VIE-PRN. A321 LHR-VIE 20 minutes late, docked at a C-gate which does not have passport
control. There was an air bridge but we were bussed to a D-gate arrival section. I had the
connection with about 10 minutes to spare which was not great as I could only grab something
to eat near fate D69 which is very limited. VIE-PRN on a F100. I did like the new seats on the
A321, they are thin giving more space but still comfortable. The magazines are stored behind
the tray table so are high up allowing more leg room. The F100 felt dated in comparison. In
in-flight catering was very limited a cake on the first sector and a sad sandwich on the
second. FA were very efficient and friendly.

VIE-BKK, what poor service. Food much below average, very limited drinks, not the most
comfortable seat. BKK-VIE was slightly better but there is much better to be found for the
money.

IAD-VIE on B763 in Economy. Very unpleasant experience, unfortunately seat could not be
reclined, reading light could not be turned off. FA tried to reset electrical system prior to
take-off, reading light still on. Staff tried to offer free drinks as compensation rather than
finding a new seat. IFE very much outdated, and service on-board rather poor. Aircraft worn,
must have been +20 years old. Austrian have gone a long way in few years only from being top-
notch to where they are now - I love to fly them back then, but now they are a mere shadow of
what once was a highly respected airline. Cannot recommend them on long haul, no to little
value for money.

Y-class VIE-BOM-VIE. Welcome back to the 1980's. B767 has probably not seen much overhaul in
the Y cabin for the last 20 years. I had a bulkhead seat (10D) on the way out, wasn't much
leg space. Worst of all, no seat recline at all! On the way back (18G), the best Y seat in
emergency exit. The special food order didn't work. The crew was very nice though.

LHR-VIE-LHR, efficient and comfortable seats. Electronic check in did not read our ticket
number so had to go to services desk. Out on B737-800 back on A319, new seats from Austrian on
the way back but I preferred the seats on the way out.

VIE-IAD-VIE Business Class, all in all a very pleasant experience. Service including food were
outstanding. Drawbacks are the old 767's with tighter seats and the old entertainment system
without VOD.

Vienna-Paris economy A319. Check In online worked well. I likedthe new seat Austrian
introduced now to the short haul fleet, very comfy and lots of leg space. The cabin looks more
professional. The food served was typical coffee break with 2 slices of good cake and
beverages hot/cold. Looking forward when they'll change their long haul fleet to new seats and
AVOD.

Geneva-Vienna-Kharkiv. The breakfast is below any standards. Cheap Milka wafer, nothing else!
We could not land due to fog in Vienna and after circling for some time, we landed in Graz. No
additional water or snacks provided to the travelers. We refueled and we went back to Vienna
again. We missed our connection to Kharkiv and waited 2 hours exactly even though we had a
senator card and it was a small queue. They rebooked us via Kiev and promised to organise a
hotel. We arrived in Kiev and their offices were closed. At midnight we had to look for a
hotel ourselves. Absolutely not acceptable as service.

VIE-NRT in economy B777. Austrian has developed positively since the LH takeover : flight
attendants friendly and forthcoming, plenty of water runs on the flight, food excellent and
sufficient and well presented. Drawbacks are the lack of AVOD and tight seat pitch.

BKK to VIE in Economy. Barely a 4-star airline in my opinion. Most economy seats are not
exactly plush, but Austrian's were probably the most uncomfortable I've experienced. IFE was
not on-demand, and food was poor quality. It all felt very no-frills, and I'll choose a
different airline next time.

NRT-VIE-FCO economy. NRT-VIE B777, almost full, excellent service with flight attendants
friendly and offering water, iced tea and soft drinks frequently - meals good and
entertainment programme with late-release films, but not AVOD. Short flight to Rome (in a
738) about half full - only a chocolate bar and coffee/tea. Complaint is the seat pitch of 31
inches on B772, and felt much less in the B737.

VNO-VIE-MUC shortly before Christmas, when the winter heavily hit Europe. First flight was 100
minutes delayed due to fog in VIE. Delays not clearly posted in VNO. Fokker 70 was subbed by
Dash-8 turboprop. New, clean, bright aircraft with sufficient legroom. Onboard service very
good, great variety of beverages. Sandwich more than edible, as was the cake. No apologies for
the delay given until descent into VIE when the cockpit informed the passengers about a
further delay due to weather. My connection time in VIE was reduced to 20 minutes. It was a
pain to clear security again in VIE even with a intra-EU/Schengen connection. Made the flight
as one of the last passengers. Fokker 100 to Munich a little bit worn-out but still a pleasant
experience. It is recommendable to get a seat towards the front due to back-mounted engines.
Service consisted of drinks and two pieces of cake. My luggage did not make the connection
and was delivered eight days after arrival. Baggage tracing in MUC by Lufthansa efficient
considering the amount of lost luggage during the time. Would fly Austrian again, friendly
crews and great on-board product, even on small regional aircraft. Connecting in VIE is a big minus.

VIE-IAD Economy on Boeing 767, seating 2x3x2. The plane is old but they have individual PTV
screens, but there is no video-on-demand. They broadcast several moviesand you have to catch
them when they start. The food was very good and you get free wine (also good). They gave my
son a kids activity package before we took off. If you have kids, you can only pre-order a
child's meal if you choose the proper "title" when you enter the name of your child when
booking a ticket. I was lazy and chose "Mr" instead of "Master" and their computer system
does not allow anyone with "Mr" to order a children's meal. Luckily the adult's meals were
good even for my child. The onboard staff were average, nothing special. Make sure to give
yourself plenty of time in Vienna. If you don't have Star Alliance Gold status, the security
line getting into the gate was super-huge, given that they had both a Washington DC and New
York flight leaving next to each other at almost the same time. We paid extra $$ for this
flight rather than Lufthansa (which would have added an extra stop through Frankfurt) to save
a stop - it was well worth it. I would fly them again solely because it's one of the few ways
to get to the USA from Vienna without stopping at another European hub.

My wife and I were traveling together with our 10 month old son from Amsterdam to Belgrade,
having a transfer in Vienna. During both flights Austrian Airlines did not take into
consideration at all that we were traveling with a baby. Where other airlines allow passengers
with a baby to board first, during our first flight we had no choice but to enter the plane
along with the second group to enter (groups were sorted on row numbers). Because our fellow
passengers charged forwards as soon as the sign was given to board the plane, we were amongst
the last passengers to enter the plane. All baggage compartments were full and we were stuck
with a considerable amount of hand luggage that we could not stow away (again, when you travel
with a baby). The seat next to ours was occupied, forcing us to cram our entire luggage
between our legs, while restraining our baby. All other passengers were seated at that point,
so it was obvious to the cabin staff what was going on. Where they now had the opportunity to
ask the woman seated next to us to move to one of the many empty seats in the second class
(including one seat in the row directly behind us), we were ignored. Not surprisingly, despite
the exemplary behavior of our little boy, we were quite stressed. In addition, with our
luggage crammed between our legs and the resulting difficulties changing the baby and going to
the toilet the flight itself was very uncomfortable. The second flight was not much better,
but because we were on our guard this time we managed to stow away more of our luggage. I
grade Austrian airlines with a low mark, based completely on their poor service and total
disregard for passengers with a baby.
