I am just back from my trip in Cambodia. Asiana was the cheapest flight I could find from
Paris, so I bought it. The problem consisted in a long connecting time in Seoul. However, the
lounge is confortable enough to spend a good relaxing time. The flight was perfect, air
hostesses efficient, ready to answer, fast, smiling etc. One thing that could have been a
little better in the comfort of the old seats of the A 320, which has no leg rest, except on
the first row. The other thing is the poor choice of food in the business class lounge in
Seoul.

SYD to LHR with a complimentary overnight stopover in ICN in May 2010 and return late June
with a longer stopover at our own expense. Asiana planes are clean and comfortable with good
legroom, food of a higher standard than most airline food. Service friendly and efficient and
flight attendants bring round trays of drinks at regular intervals between meals. Check-In
also efficient except at Incheon on our return journey. Information here was confusing and
queues were very long with Asiana check-in desks handling flights to all destinations. We made
our seating requests in advance by phoning Asiana Sydney Office as we were unable to do this
online or through our travel agent. Allocation of complimentary stopover accommodation in
Incheon/Seoul seems to depend on the order of your arrival at the Asiana Information Desk. We
were among the first in the queue and were allocated to a small shuttle bus belonging to the
Hotel June, Incheon. A small coach belonging to the Seoul Hotel Royal was also waiting and
appeared to take those who were next in the queue. Other people from our flight arrived at
the Hotel June some time after us so we assumed that the Hotel June shuttle bus had returned
to pick up the any remaining passengers.

Pudong-Incheon-Los Angeles in economy with two small children was a difficult flight, as both
children were ill, but Asiana staff were generally quite helpful is assisting with luggage,
prams etc. Food was good, and transit in Incheon was very straightforward and easy. Los
Angeles has improved beyond measure after the upgrade in facilities. Skyporter service is
excellent and worth every cent.

SYD-ICN-LHR. Chose Asiana due to competitive pricing and good reputation. On both legs, what
impressed was the speed and efficiency of the boarding, inflight service etc and the focus of
FAs - nothing was too much trouble. The service was excellent, food great and the wine, lovely
(albeit in thimble-sized glasses that were constantly refilled). The cons - not that many.
The IFE is shocking, 5 films shown simultaneously on a loop and poor quality headsets. Also,
the seats, better than Economy but not on a par with other airline's flat-beds. Would I fly
them again? Yes - it was £2k (approx) cheaper than other airlines flying the same route and
the same duration.

LAX-ICN-TAS-ICN-SFO on Asiana. LAX-ICN check in was fast and boarding uneventful, in
comfortable 777. Great food, great service (get the bibimbap for your meal). Only complaint,
the plane was pretty warm at the front of the travel class cabin but pretty cool in the rear.
Asked FAs to adjust the temperature, but no difference discerned. AVOD top notch with many
movies and programs, touch screen monitors. Economy class has no electric outlets.Asiana
Airlines has a general rule of offering free transit hotel to those with more than 8 hour
layover, but only on certain routes. LAX-TAS was not one of those routes, so we had to
entertain ourselves for 12 hrs. ICN-TAS was an adventure. A330 with no AVOD or personal
screens. Food average. Plane was maybe 70% full so we had our pick of seats. Check-in and
boarding uneventful, but watch out for the landing. Many of the passengers flying this route
are used to a different culture, where about 30 minutes prior to landing they will begin to
move all their carry on baggage up to the front of the plane and everyone moves up and fills
up seats in the front of the cabin. Some tried to leave carry-on luggage in the aisles. FAs
made them put them in the overhead compartments. One mother stood in the aisle holding her
child and refused to sit down and put her seat belt on. If you fly this route, try to sit
near the front of the cabin. When the plane lands, race to customs or you may be mobbed and
will take a long time through customs and baggage claim. TAS-ICN was not as eventful as the
outbound flight, but the boarding process at TAS is horrible. Boarding not controlled by the
airline, but by airport personnel, who would herd people onto buses for tarmac boarding in the
most inefficient way, though our plane was a mere 500 yards away from the terminal. Plane was
100% full, A330 again, food average but deplaning was more civilized. ICN-SFO on B-777. Crew
was amazing, same AVOD, great seats. They even came around near landing and offered facial
masks for those who wanted them.

The outstanding efficiency of the flight attendants has to be seen to be believed, and they
actually smile! Food ok, not great. Seats lots of leg room. Our problem is shoulder room as
husband has broad shoulders, but this is a problem on all airlines for us. Dislike the way
Asiana boards its passengers. Unlike other airlines which board in orderly rows, with Asiana
everyone lines up and boards at random, making it very annoying for those of us in the front
of the plane. You are trying to put things in the overhead compartments and people are barging
past, to the back of the plane, pushing and shoving. Also, although the seat belt sign was on
due to turbulence, everyone was still walking around, going to the toilet etc and nothing was
said! One passenger even got up and began rummaging in the overhead locker as the plane
descended into Sydney! Overall, though, a nice experience.

London-Narita via Incheon. Service not so red hot as on previous flights, and amenities are
shrinking. No automatic bottle of water overnight, you have to ask. Meals noticeably less in
quantity, and cheese is now only 2 pieces instead of 3. Unusually, AVOD on all 4 sectors- on
the Seoul to and from Narita sectors, faster and better than on the long haul. Hard product is
okay - not special. ICN-LHR the wcs got into a mess - anything like this is usually cleaned up
instantly by the FAs, but not on this flight. Also in the shutters down portion of the flight,
staff were less in evidence than normal. Certainly no one walking through the cabin with
glasses of drink - if you rang the call button you were answered fast, but you did have to
ring.

FRA-ICN (B777), ICN-FUK (A321), NRT-ICN (A330), ICN-FRA (B777). Asiana certainly offers very
good service and all flights were fully satisfying, but my experience was a bit disappointing.
Seat comfort on the B777 OK, but not too opulent. I couldn’t fully stretch my leg under the
seat in front because of the footrest. Seat comfort on A321/A330 was better. Meal service very
good with two warm meals and a midflight snack on the longhaul flights, a hot meal on the NRT-
ICN flight (whereas type of meal might not be quite appropriate for the time of day, but that
might be a matter of personal taste), and a sandwich on ICN-FUK flight. Drink service
sometimes a bit mysterious, FRA-ICN flight no drinks were offered actively between meals, you
had to ask for one. But when asked for, it was brought quickly and with a smile. On that
flight, after dinner FA were busy with duty free sales for 2 hours or so since they don’t come
round with the cart but collect order forms and then bring every purchase individually to the
seats, thus causing constant action in the cabin at a time when you want to rest. B777 and
A330 with AVOD, but IFE is not state of the art, choice of music rather poor on B777, slightly
better on the enhanced A330 IFE system. Finally, transfering at Incheon is a breeze, even with
a transfer time of under one hour no need to rush and hurry, and if you have more time many
facilities to rest, to shop and to kill time.

LAX-ICN-MNL return. FAs worked tirelessly throughout the flight. Drinks and beverages
offered every 15 minutes or so. Meals excellent with sandwiches/snacks served in between
meals. Legroom was excellent on the B747 and B777. ICN-MNL on new A321 with AVOD and power
outlets on the seats. Now I know why Asiana Airlines won "Airline of the Year." You have to
experience it yourself to believe it.

BKK-ICN-SFO. Check in a breeze at BKK airport, but they were strict about baggage weight. FBKK
to ICN Boeing 767-300 and no AVOD for economy class, but overhead entertainment (mostly CNN
and Korean news). Dinner was delicious. FA's kept walking around with water and orange juice
and a beautiful smile. In ICN, I was offered a free tour of Seoul because the layover was 10
hours. Asiana does an excellent job at ICN airport and the tour itself was pretty nicely
coordinated. Check-in easy. Had to go through security again at gate. ICN-SFO Boeing
777-200ER, with personal AVOD ife. Meals good, but not as good as the first leg. Drinks
flowing non-stop. Flight attendants gave the best service I have seen.

Sydney-Seoul-Seattle-Seoul-Sydney. An excellent experience with intelligent and efficient
flight attendents. Seoul-Seattle legs better than flights to and from Sydney for some reason.
Seattle-Seoul flight I was very impressed with all the cabin crew remembering me from a
previous flight, recalling my wine preferences, and coming to welcome me onboard individually.
All flights on-time and I was pleased with the operation to the US through Seattle which
offers good and non-crowded connections (compared to hubs such as Los Angeles) to and from
cities such as Denver. On the downside I found the Air New Zealand business lounge at Sydney
that Asiana uses a terrible place - crowded and dingy to put it mildly and not a good first
impression for these flights. The Asiana Seoul business lounge is not that much better and not
good for trying to work in. Onboard, food, wine and service was first class quality except,
surprisingly, for the last leg from Seoul to Sydney on which I found the Korean dish almost
inedible (I like Korean food very much) and I felt unwell afterwards. Otherwise, and without
suffering from the volcanic ash cloud issue and problems as many in these columns have, I
found Asiana an excellent airline.
