KIX-CTS business class service for a domestic route was at par with Emirates etc. FA's had poor English but tried their utmost. The meals were pre-packed - drinks service was exceptional with FA's replacing beverages as soon as they were finished. Also for only 10,000 yen to upgrade at check-in makes it quite good value. Attentive service, large recliners for domestic, excellent beverage menu. Cons- Poor english, no lounge access, no western meals

Outstanding service in economy class between Honolulu and Narita. Check-in at both airports fast and efficient. Friendly cabin attendants. Delicious meals which include Haagen-Daas ice cream. Excellent entertainment system, frequent drinks available. B767 seating 2-3-2 seems less crowded than other airlines which use 747 or 777 on the same route.

Recent flights between Hong Kong and Tokyo excellent. Food good and entertainment as you would expect. Plenty of legroom and a nice clean environment. The staff were friendly and English almost appeared to be their first language. They seemed to be constantly presenting refreshments to people.

Economy

A recent round-trip NRT-TPE was very good. I usually fly business class, but the true test is economy class. This time I was flying economy. One disappoint was the older aircraft used for the Taipei-bound leg. No individual TVs. On the return flight the individual TVs were present, but the listings were very confusing. I could not find any correspondence between the listings and channels. Even though I happened to guess right and get the movie I wanted to see on the first attempt, the moment the in-flight entertainment was made available, the movie was too long for the flight, and it got cut off 10 minutes before the end, as it was time to land. The meal was tasty but inadequate in terms of quantity. The main course on the TPE-bound flight was honestly just three bites, with a side that may have consisted of five or six mouthfuls. The ground staff were very helpful (at NRT and TPE), FAs were up to ANA's very high standards. Boarding and baggage handling were also quick and efficient, in both directions.

ORD-NRT-SGN return. ORD-NRT-ORD flights were on comfortable 777 aircraft. Check in, boarding and inflight service very good on both legs. Cabin crew professional and attentive. Business seats easy to control and relatively comfortable. Thin duvet blankets and other sweater amenity nice. The cabins are a bit warm (I asked for a lower temperature). The seating configuration in business is one larger central cabin, and two smaller cabins, one fore and another aft. AVOD (entertainment) system is relatively easy to use and the film selection is comprehensive. Beverage selection is good. My only disappointment was the catering - quality was good, but preparation and flavors odd, and main portions small. The equally small snack services (both legs only serve one main meal) were poorly chosen choices and of inadequate quantity, although anytime snacks such as udon noodles in broth etc are offered. NRT business lounges are spacious and comfortable, with lounger chairs, showers and full amenities. The ORD lounge is the United Red Carpet Club - not much to write home about, but ok. NRT-SGN-NRT was on a 767 - seats have about 50 inch pitch, but do not recline much, making for a less than comfortable 6 hour flight, especially on the overnight SGN-NRT flight. Breakfast on this was a fillet of fish (western choice) - not exactly what I enjoy for breakfast. Business class lounge in SGN is a generic CIP Rose lounge, but comfortable and adequate.

NRT-PEK B767. As expected for a Japanese carrier everything was organised and on time. Friendly and very attentive crews and a clean 767.Legroom good and 2-3-2 seating in economy and 2-1-2 in business. Drinks round and then full hot meal service offered on this 3.5hr flight. Individual interactive screens and pillows and blankets for this shortish flight to Japan. Crews visible throughout the flight. Very good service and ontime departure and arrivals.

IAD-NRT then NRT-LAX. Ground crew at Dulles and Narita polite, friendly and efficient. Economy legroom was a bit iffy in the window seat, but I could live with that. Service was amazing. Hot towels before meals, flight attendants coming around every so often with coffee, tea, OJ, etc. I was worried initially if my vegetarian meal request would be honored properly - turned out to be no problem. At both check-ins and after boarding, they confirmed my meal request. IAD-NRT they stickered my seat to prevent issue. NRT-LAX trip I just had to remind them once. And it was good food. Omelettes and tofu and sandwiches and stuff. They kept the food and drink coming. The attendants were pleasant and upbeat. Entertainment was great - though I would appreciate more Western television programs, the Hollywood movies did just fine. After deplaning, there were ANA employees with us at NRT and LAX baggage claim making sure everything was going all right. I fully intend to fly ANA on my next trip to Tokyo.

London-Tokyo-Osaka/ Tokyo-London Y Class. Great service, cabin crew attentive. Food tasty and a self service buffet available in the galley. PTV AVOD but content very bland. My only real problem was that my row of economy (the last in the forward economy cabin) had less legroom and narrower seats than every other row (seats made for a 10 across B777 config. not the 9 across layout). That was quite uncomfortable and I could see no good reason for having narrower seats. Transfer at Narita very easy. I was upgraded to Premium Economy on the domestic sector, which was an international aircraft. Premium Economy was extremely comfortable and reminded me of Business Class in the 1990's. Service on the domestic sector consisted of a hot drink and english language newspaper. Beware that upon collecting your luggage from a domestic flight, one must show a special receipt to security staff before leaving.

HKG-HND-HKG - C class. I decided to try out this new flight schedule. Departing HKG at 1:30, the arrival time into Haneda is great at around 6:20a.m., but I was fairly disappointed with the catering. A very small breakfast which wasn't very filling after a midnight flight. The service was nice, despite being 80% full. On the way back, the departure time was at 840pm, which allowed me to spend another full day down town. The lounge was rather poor in Haneda, so it isn't really worth heading towards Haneda airport too early. Business class only had 4 passengers so service was really good. Again, catering wasn't outstanding, and I could say even an economy class meal would have been more filling. Overall, I would take the Haneda flights for the convenient time schedules and the ease of using Haneda airport. ANA still ranks as my best choice for traveling between Hong Kong and Japan.

GMP to HND in Club ANA (Business) on a 777-200. The lounge at Gimpo, operated by Asiana provides a nice variety of snacks and drinks and is nicer than the airport lounge at Haneda. The flight itself was very nice. I was travelling with my wife and daughter, and the 3 seats in the 2-3-2 configuration suited us well. My daughter was offered an inflatable ANA airplane balloon which kept her busy as well as the AVOD. The meal service was nicely presented, but a bit small if one is hungry. The presentation itself is very nice, and drinks were continually refreshed. The flight itself was very pleasant and a very nice experience. Will fly with them again to HND if OZ is not available.

Dulles-Narita return, Business Class on the way to Australia. Excellent service and food. Extremely attentive and pleasant flight attendants. Great seats (3H/G) with good storage, comfortable pillows/blankets, angled lie-flat OK with the foot rest to keep you from sliding. Lounges also excellent - staff went above and beyond to make sure our luggage was routed properly (after Singapore Air mis-tagged it). Not as "luxe" as Singapore Air BC, but very impressive. Would not hesitate to fly them again, but would go for the same seats.

BKK-Narita-Washington return economy. Seats were wide and a lot of leg room. Crews were very polite and efficient. Food good. Drinks and snacks were served throughout even on the 14 hours flight. Ground staff at Narita airport spoke broken English, but somehow what they said were understandable. I will try to use this airline more on my next trips (and still earn miles on UA frequent flyer program).

LHR-NRT and back Premium Economy (B777-300). This is definitely worth the money. The seat is wider and reclines further than the normal economy seat. It also has leg-rest, making it easy to relax. Amenity goods include slippers and noise-cancelling headsets, which I thought was a nice touch, and other items on request (eye mask, ear plugs, etc.). As these seats are located at the beginning of the economy section, one always gets his/her food and drinks served first and hence no problem of one's choice running out. The only downside is the meal service. Other airlines on the same route offer something extra like champagne, and ANA should follow the suit if it wants to keeps its customers. It should also consider having a different compartment.

LAX to NRT to BKK. ANA business class service has gone downhill since my last trip, even though they now offer the flats on Pacific flights. Departures and arrivals on time and the aircraft quite clean - both were 777, one long haul config, the other regional (seats not quite as nice as other Asia Pacific regionals). Inflight service was very apologetically robotic and catering was sub-par - I left both flights quite hungry; luckily the Narita lounge offered some refreshments. My experience on these two flights would barely warrant 4 stars.

IAD-NRT Economy - the most cramped economy seat I have ever encountered, very little recline and tight seat. Utility box in front of my already very cramped seat made the flight almost unbearable. Service was excellent and flight attendants were with good attitude, smiling and always eager to help and very attentive. Inflight entertainment was good. Tall or big passengers should be aware that seat may be difficult especially for a long flight.

Business class on a 767 from Taipei to Narita, morning flight. Cabin was standard business class without sleeper seats, and was dated but clean and comfortable. Attentive cabin staff. The meal choice was Japanese or Western, and the Japanese choice was quite good. The lounge in TPE was EVA Air and was large, had reasonable food and drink, but was fairly spartan and plain. No real complaint - just a place to wait in a fairly old, not very nice international terminal. As I was transiting NRT to United, I went to the ANA lounge on arrival. It was very modern, nicely appointed, had reasonable food and drink, and was totally empty.

Shanghai Hongqiao - Tokyo Haneda in Business Class. Great Experience with Hongqiao Airport which is closer than Pudong. Check-in handled by Shanghai Airlines which was smooth. Nicer lounge than before in Pudong - but maybe Pudong is nicer as new terminal has opened. But no internet access available. Nice and friendly crew. Nice Japanese food on this flight. AVOD was nice but cannot use in full function due to short flight time. Arrival in Haneda no bridge position: First and Business Class passenger had immediate and seperate bus. So immigration to Japan took 3 minutes. Baggage release may 5 minutes later. Have not got out of the Terminal so fast. Only small disadvantage of Haneda: no direct access to International Terminal at Haneda. But due to close location to Tokyo downtown I was in 45 minutes in town after I left the plane. Would do it again from Seoul-Gimpo or Hong Kong. This was again a great experience with ANA.

Hong Kong to Osaka in business class on a 767. Easy and smooth check in, but the lounge is in the cluster around the Gate 40 area and not easy to find. Nice enough lounge, shared with Ari France. Onboard, I was surprised that there was no personal video. Seats in 2-2-2 configuration, rather hard, and clearly from a previous generation of regional business class. Service was attentive, with flight attendant accomodating my request for dinner to be served an hour later as I had eaten lunch just 2 hours beforehand. Nothing special about the food.

Honolulu-Tokyo Economy Class. Check-in staff at HNL very friendly, efficient and helpful. Inflight service was great. FAs provided polite and efficient service. Frequent drink runs throughout the flight between first and second meal/beverage service. There was also a self-service drink/snack counter set up in the galley. Lunch and pre-landing sandwich and snack box were tasty. When I got my lunch, thought the portions looked rather small, but turned out to be an adequate amount of food. Aircraft interior and seats very clean and FAs cleaned the lavatories throughout the flight. Economy seat pitch is a little tight, but it appeared that most of the passengers were considerate of other passengers and did not recline their seats or only reclined them a little. Overall an excellent flight for this route, and prefer the smaller 767 which ANA uses over the 747s which JAL uses as boarding and deplaning are much faster.

Shanghai to Osaka in business class. Check in at Pudong aiport easy. One thing to note is that you must fill in a departure card before you get to immigration, these are not handed out at check in but can be found on tables in front of the immigration desks. I missed this completely and had to be shown were to find them by the immigration officer" for future reference" he then completed a form for me and just asked me to sign it - which other airport would you get that at? ANA business lounge is located on the level below the main departures area and is not worth the effort to find. Its a dark room with a poor selection of drinks and food items its also dirty there were pieces of food smeared across the window. I returned to the main departures level and found a seat there. The flight was on a 767 with the Asia club ANA seating in a 2-1-2 config, seats were comfortable with adequate leg room for the length of flight. Food on board was good with sushi to start with and a choice of western or Japanese main course a reasonable selection of drinks was also available all served by a very attentive crew. Overall 4 stars for the flight but only 2 stars for the lounge. Will continue to use ANA when travelling to Japan.

SIN-NRT-SIN in business class. Plane a 767 quite new inside with Club ANA regional business class product in a 2-1-2 configuration. Seat pitch is 50 inch and recline about 145 degrees. I feel that for a flight of about 7 hours the newest business class product and most comfortable one in particular for the red eye flights should be offered. Service on flights good although on the return flight it was a touch better maybe also because the flight attendants on that flight had a better command with English. AVOD was ok, although the selection wasn't extraordinary but fine. In the end overall a good flight, both flights departed on time and the lounge access at both location in NRT and SIN was fine. Will choose them again on SIN-NRT, nevertheless will not choose them over SQ since SQ offers a lie flat seat on that route.

SFO-NRT-BKK return in economy. I enjoyed the service. Hot towels before and after meal service. Meals were decent served in dishes with real cutlery. FAs friendly. Aircraft was clean 777-300 - and 777-200 had newer seats installed - seat pitch I think was 32 inches.

I would agree that the attendants treat everyone the same and treat them well. I was chagrined to find an attendant sprinting down the aisle to assist me when I inadvertently pushed the call button on the armrest. When did you ever get that on a US domestic carrier? Food was very good. Very good check in procedure. I would fly then again, save for the unrealistic 44lb limit on checked baggage - very hard to meet with a 11 pound pair of ski boots and a 2 week trip. Flight was between Tokyo and Bejing in early 2008

NRT-BKK-NRT in economy. Flight attendants kind and accommodating. I never see the difference in the way they treat foreigners vs Japanese as others have noted. They do go a bit more overboard with the Japanese as that's what they expect, and it's their culture! FA greet everyone with smiles. Food was adequate and satisfying enough for economy, in-flight AVOD OK, but nothing I wanted to see. The seats were large enough for legroom only if the person in front doesn't recline, or you don't have an arm hoarder next to you. Toilets clean. I enjoy the reliability, efficiency, and overall comfort of ANA.

NRT-LAX, service was excellent, food fantastic, IFE superb, only real problem was the room between you and the seat in front. I'm not particularly tall but the seat in front of me was pressed on my knees for the entire flight. Try and avoid rows 22 & 23 as they seem very cramped, I was in row 23 and had much difficulty moving about.

LAX-NRT-LAX Business class. Found the product average at best. Felt FA's were very attentive to Japanese passengers, but lukewarm to westerners. Food presentation is pleasing to the eyes but fail to pleasure the palate, basically very bland food for both sectors. Service is generally friendly as is always with Japanese carriers - but more visibly so with Japanese - could be a language barrier thing. Seat is ok on the 777, similar to that of EVA Premium Laurel and other angled flat. From this one trip, ANA is average amongst the carriers from Asia. Price, however, tend to be higher than the rest from website searches.
