STL-ORD-DEL and LHR-ORD-STL in Business.Expect very little and you might be surprised. Outbound to DEL found crew very pleasant. Female crew wore a bindi on their head which I was a nice touch. Interactive with pax seemed to enjoy their job which is rare for most US carriers. Seat comfortable but is not 180 degrees - so sliding as others have mentioned was a problem. Negative was food which was not very good and presented light domestic first class- not acceptable. Return LHR to STL crew was pleasant, not as good as outbound. Got a great fare and was pleasantly surprised at how fast 14 hour flight went.

J class MIA-CNF on a cheap $500 LFBU from a discounted Y fare, so it was pretty good value for money. New north terminal facilities at MIA are an improvement over previous structures. AAdmirals lounge is spacious - busy, but enough seats available, but snacks are not complimentary. In spite of a busy flight in Economy, Biz was quite empty, which added to the experience. FA attending on me was all smiles and even managed to fetch some Port wine after dinner. Sparkling wine served upon boarding, but food service was average at best. Breakfast was mediocre, with few choices and nothing really special on offer. Seat comfort was OK by me. I managed to sleep in the angled seats - footrest preventing me from sliding down. The stand alone entertainment units are an unusual arrangement (if they upgrade the cabin recently, why not integrate IFE into the seats?). The duvets are a good idea gone wrong in my opinion. They take up too much space and, had the next seat been occupied, I would not know where to store them when not in use. Amenity kit a bit too simple. Overall a nice flight experience but if I had paid full J class fare I would want a bit more.

LHR-JFK return. Check in was fast and efficient both ways. Seats 34J and 36J (window) on Boeing 777 were relatively comfortable - inbound flight empty so had 2 seats to myself. Flight attendants a bit old, however relatively friendly. Food served twice on both flights plus snacks and beverages - I did not eat it so don't know how it tasted. Inflight entertainment good.

MIA-LHR B777. Check in easy, asked for window seat and got it. Plane newish and clean, seat pitch standard for coach these days. IFE box under the seat sort of annoyance but had some extra space on the side of front seat so didn`t feel cramped. Service efficient and professional, in fact friendly. Two meals, edible. Alcohol for purchase, can of coke before, glass of ice with some coke during dinner. Personal screen with limited and outdated choice.

ORD-MIA-MBJ return. All flights on 757's. American offered no food on any segment other than drinks. Cabin service was OK at best and my bags arrived with me. The first segment in both directions were on time. The second segment in both directions were late. On the return trip I spent more time on the ground in MIA than I did in the air. From MBJ to ORD non-stop normally takes 4 hrs gate to gate but with American via MIA it took 9 hrs gate to gate. Entertainment consisted of reruns of NBC programs with about 1/3 of the entertainment taken up with promotions for American or NBC plus a few paid ads. From the mid 1980s to the mid 1990s American used the slogan "Something special in the air." They should update the slogan to read "Nothing special in the air." I normally fly Air Jamaica on this route but went with American because AJ was full when I wanted to go. Next time I will use Air Jamaica (and change my vacation dates if required).

We flew out of LAX to JFK on an early flight. We were hungry so I ordered two sandwiches and sodas. I was told the only thing available on a limited basis was, bags of toasted nuts, as the company had provided only 10 sandwiches for a fully loaded plane. And this is on a 5+hr flight. There were families with young children who were upset as their children were hungry. I had the chance to fly from Sao Paulo Brazil to Buenos Aires Argentina on TAM airlines, and even though it was only about a 3 hr flight they provided us with a tasty hot meal and beverage. On a return American Airlines flight from Sao Paulo to DFW, the crew were inattentive. They were chatting when they should have been making sure that seats up/belts, were in proper position. There were about 6 passengers improperly seated nearby. On cancellations, why so much ($200) money? When I complained, they said "there was a lot of paperwork involved in processing". When you book a ticket online, what paperwork? and if they would allow us to make changes online there is also no paperwork. And even if someone is involve in that it only takes less than 5 mins and no paperwork, all done with PC's.

LAX-LHR. On the plus side crew were very attentive and friendly. Check in was quick as was security courtesy of Express Lane and the Flagship First Lounge was a step up from the usual dire Admirals Club experience. However there was very little in the way of food on offer - I was in between times apparently - but in fairness a very helpful member of staff sorted some out for me. The flight was on time and boarding was fine and crew greeted me immediately and offered drink etc. The First cabin is showing its age as are the seats though I still think they are ok though a little on the narrow side for sleeping. However the food is most definitely not First Class - AA should try flying some of the Asian carriers to see what they should be providing. In particular the notion that an Ice Cream Sundae is all that they need to provide for dessert is truly indicative of how far short they fall. Food was ok but simply not what it should be. IFE is ok but again not in the league of many of the other carriers. No pjyamas provided and a truly appalling amenity kit that they should be ashamed of dishing out - it seemed to be the same now as the Business class kit. I find the seat comfortable both sitting and reclining and sleeping and private enough. However as one of the major members of the Oneworld Alliance they are most definitely the poor relation when it comes to the premium cabins and I suspect that little will change in the current economic climate.

AUS-MSP I'm a former Platinum AAdvantage member and a recent business flight reminded me why I'm not anymore. Trip was a last minute business decision so I booked with only 6 days advance and the RT ticket was almost $900. As you can imagine seat selection was miserable so I tried to upgrade using the upgrade points I have banked. AA.com wouldn't let me do that, so I called AAdvantage support. Upgrading wasn't allowed on my non-refundable ticket. On top of the $900 ticket, I had to pay $20 each way for a checked bag. Departure flight out of Austin was 45 minutes late, forcing me to have to practically run to make my DFW connection. On return flight I did not have an assigned seat, so when I got to the gate in MSP I asked the gate agent to get me an assignment. Only after a philosophical debate on the percentages of delayed landings into O'hare did she finally agree to do it. Landing in Chicago we received conflicting connecting gate info. FA gave us one gate, but got there and it was incorrect. Monitors said K10. Went to gate K10 and asked the gate agent to confirm and she snapped back that she was busy trying to get a late flight out. With rare exceptions AA flights are delayed, and staff are callous and rude.

LAX-MIA, Business Class, excellent food and Service. Flight attendants attentive and available at request through the flight - a stark difference from the same flight from two weeks ago on an older 757. The 777's have the best business class on American's fleet with Audio Video on Demand and lie flat seats which are quite comfortable, duvet blanket and pillows provided. If you're traveling on AA cross country, try and get a flight on the 777. It's a huge difference in value and in service. Same service on the way back and it was just as good as the flight over.

LAX-DFW-FLL First Class. Check in at LAX slow, Admirals Club lounge a real disappointment, certainly not worth the $50 dollar charge for a day pass (got in with my BA Silver Card). Snacks and drink selection very poor. LAX-DFW a 757 with ancient seats and very senior crew. A very good lunch was served and it was nice to see hot towels and warmed nuts to make the experience a bit more special. The two cabin crew were matronly, but very caring and good fun. Connection in Dallas went well, again the lounge was comfortable but snacks and drinks almost no existent. Another full flight, and excellent meal with all the trimmings. Aircraft interiors both in need of a refurb, but all in all I was delighted with the First Class service on American.

LHR-STL, Business/First. I like the Flagship Check-in facility outside Terminal 3 - makes things very easy. The new Admiral's Club is getting there - not quite finished. I don't really like the new Business Class seat - it is better on the 777 than the 767 except that the privacy screen can't be raised. IFE good, worked perfectly. Food surprisingly good. We were informed that the power plugs, which are the old type, were not working in First and Business. FA's pleasant, but not exactly friendly and they did do the occasional pass through to keep drinks topped up. All in all not an unpleasant experience. The ancient MD80's, although in First Class, are showing their age and need to go.
