AMS-FCO-ATH in economy. MD-80 was ancient, not much had been done to restyle its interior. Catering
was minimal and varied in quality: a choice between a slice of cake, or inedible tiny white
sandwich. Also the crew varied: generally nicely presented and elegant looking, but most of the time
no effort at all was taken to even make some eye contact with passengers while boarding or offering
snacks. Also forget about FA's smiling at you. After flying with Malaysia, this was a cold shower.
AMS-FCO was delayed 40 minutes, so a lot of passengers where worried about their connections. Not a
word about this was mentioned during the flight. Only after asking AZ crew on the platform,
passengers were directed to the transfer desk. And from there to another one, where people started
yelling to us to run and hurry up a bit. A lot of flights where delayed in FCO that day, so made it
on the FCO-ATH one. Luggage did not however, and was delivered at accomodation the next day.
Only reason for me to fly Alitalia: cheapest fare and saving miles because of Skyteam partnership.
Tip: do use online check in. If you are in time, you can choose almost any seat in the plane.

Caracas-Rome-Naples. Food good, the service nothing exceptional. Typical of Alitalia, they are
limited to serve you, sometimes nicely, other times not as much. Boeing 767-300, my complaint is the
lack of PTV screens in economy class - main and the other two secondary ones. In general the flight
in Alitalia is far better that with Iberia.

PRG-FCO-BUE Business Class. FCO to Buenos Aires on time and check in / luggage collection was fine.
My only gripes were the state of the business lounge in FCO (shocking basement with zero snacks and
broken WI-FI). Poor choice of food and drink on board and the seemingly compulsory disappearance of
the stewards once the flight got underway. Given the price of the ticket I expected a lot more.
Certainly Alitalia can't compete with its Skyteam partners for service.

MXP-DAM business class. The cabin is a basic 2-3 configuration. As this was not a full flight I
was able to secure a block of 3 seats for myself after take off. A dinner served all at once on a
tray was offered after take off. The meal itself was good. After dinner the crew vanished as is
the case with most Alitalia flights and there was no inflight entertainment. Drank cups of coffee
with cognac to pass the time. Landed on time in Damascus. Aircraft parked on apron but transfer to
terminal was quick and efficient. Overall a good flight but value could be questionable.

Mixed experience. Outbound LHR to Sao Paulo via FCO and MXP. LHR to FCO was on A320. Snack selection
very good. FA's not smiley but professional. Their English proficiency was good. Connection at FCO
was smooth. FCO to MXP was on ERJ145. Seat feels a bit cramped due to the size of aircraft. Again,
the selection and portion of snacks provided was reasonable. MXP to Sao Paulo B777, was a very good
service in general. FA's were friendly, except one of the stewardess. The portion and quality of
food was good. After meal service FAs seemed to disappear and stay in galley. Buenos Aires to LIN
via FCO on B777. The service was similar to the MXP-GRU. LIN to LHR was a bit of let down of this
entire trip. Our flight was delayed by 1:30 hrs. No information given by the upper line. I'd
conclude my experience as good, though there were some slips. I'll fly with them again if their
prices are competitive.

LHR-FCO-KIX. , I can't say that I have been impressed by Alitalia either, and I'm surprised that
they are supposedly Italy's premier airline company. If Alitalia are anything to go by, I dread to
think what the others are like! Arrived at LHR to check in my baggage and the assistant was most
unfriendly and not very welcoming at all. Travelling onto Osaka via Rome, I double-checked with her
that my luggage could be checked in at that point for the whole journey, she confirmed yes it would.
After a short delay we set off for Rome and arrived there safely (we too were offered cake - for
breakfast! I left mine). Once I boarded my onward flight to Osaka, after some delay we were all
told that the plane was not safe to fly. We then had to leave the aircraft, return to the departure
lounge and wait a further 2 hours before we were finally able to board another plane, to continue
with our journey (at least they were aware of the problem before we took off!). Once on board we
were offered an adequate lunch (the food was perfectly edible - not fantastic, but fair enough). On
a 12 hour flight, we were only offered lunch soon after we boarded the plane and breakfast only an
hour before we landed in Osaka. They are not overly generous with food, so would definitely
recommend you take your own. The staff took a long break during the flight, so it was a question of
helping yourself to water/juice from the rear of the plane. On the whole all the cabin staff were
really unfriendly, no smiles, no niceties, they all seemed very moody (unless you had children -
they made an effort with the kids, but sadly not the adults). As if things couldn't get any worse,
they did. I had arrived in Osaka, but sadly my luggage was nowhere to be seen! After travelling
for some 24 hours, tired and hungry, this was the final straw. Emotional and extremely angry at
Alitalia's incompetence, I was glad the Japanese airport staff were so accommodating and offered me
all the help they could. My luggage had got stuck in Rome - it finally arrived 2 days later!

Casablanca-Rome-Cairo business class. Food was edible but uninspired. Be aware the 'medium haul'
flights have business class seats quite inferior to those on the long haul flights. We had a delay
on departure from Casablanca and I was disapointed not to be assisted by Alitalia staff to make the
Cairo connection. Had to plead to get through the security checkpoint and was told (wrongly) by a
representative I wouldn't be able to make my connection and wasn't willing to help get me through
security or expedite my getting to the next flight. No headsets were offered to the passengers.
Worst business class lounge I've ever seen - crowded, dirty, hot - I ended up using my Premier card
and going to the lounge next door which was much nicer. On balance I wouldn't bother flying them
business class again because of the lack of any significant benefit other than slightly better food.

LHR-ATH via MXP. Decent airplanes apart from the MXP-ATH they put us in MD80 it was the oldest plane
I have ever seen. They serve a small piece of cake and a small amount of coffee - if you plan to fly
with Alitalia take some food with you. I didn't see a smiling air hostess in Alitalia! It is a 2-3
star airline. Although very attractive price 165£ return.

Heathrow - Milan Linate Economy, A-321. Online check in worked ok. Onboard generous legroom even
allowed me an hour's sleep with cake and drinks half-way through. The plane was an hour late
departing Heathrow and no apology was given until we were mid-way through the flight and no reason
was supplied then. Crew well presented. We arrived half an hour late. Luggage waiting on the belt
when we reached it. I hope Alitalia resolves its problems, it would be sad if airlines that operate
completely against the Ryanair principles all become a thing of the past.

Have you seen free seating on a scheduled airline? It happened on the flight FCO to ATH. My trip was
from Athens to Belgrade with a connection at FCO. The fist flight was an early flight, standard
service (a piece of cake and coffee) the second flight also a standard service (one sandwich with
beverage). Belgrade to Rome also standard but the last flight a late evening flight from Rome to
Athens had 1 hour delay because they had overbooked the flight and took out six people. Somehow they
had a problem with the reservation system and our seating assignment was not valid any more. Overall
the staff were standard to indifferent; one steward in the last flight was obnoxious and unwilling
to accept that this was a free seating flight; he did not even bother to call the gate and verify
what we were telling him (the captain had to hear our shouts and verify that this was a free seating
flight). I do not know how your company place the stars on airlines but I could not understand how
you place 3 stars on Alitalia.

Heathrow-Milan Linate-Catania and Rome-Heathrow. Check in at LHR quick and efficient and security
was unbelievably quick for Heathrow - we got through by two minutes! AA321, seated in 25C, two rows
behind emergency exits over the wings. Cabin crew helpful and offered a variety of snacks and
drinks. Milan Linate-Catania snacks and drinks were offered, although there was no duty free. Rome
to London A321 - legroom average, food on this flight horrible. Service was pleasant and it is a
shame that Alitalia are in financial difficulties.

JFK-FCO-JFK B777. Traveling with a group of 40 after having Alitalia cancel its flight 611 we left
two days later than planned. Onboard service was adequate with food and IFE being the highlight of
the experience on both sectors. Some flight attendants were pleasant, others surly and impatient.
Where Alitalia lost any respect was on the ground. After the flight had been canceled, the
disorganized JFK ground crew offered no solutions for our party of 40. Returning the next day we
were told that the 40 were re-booked yet another day later. I decided to confirm with a
representative on the phone only to find out that no seats were assigned. If you don't arrive very
early, there's a chance that your seat may be given to another. They always over-book; one of the
agents said that the flight had been overbooked by at least 50 seats! FCO ground crew made it
extremely difficult to get a wheel chair for one of our injured travelors; they were rude and
indignant. In the air, 3 stars. On the ground, 1 star.

We were flying Business class on an award ticket. Due to Alitalia restructuring, there were hassles
too numerous to detail here. We left Delhi on Alitalia's last flight out of there. This was a 9 hour
flight. Sat on the plane for 1.5 hours without any service while crew shared fond farewells and
photo ops with ground staff etc. Once the aircraft door closed, there was the usual service by
pleasant and competent [not too interested] FA's. There was a snack, snooze time in shell seats and
an inedible breakfast. Despite distributing their cocktail menu, they were stocked only with
campari, limoncello & brandy. Transit in Rome requires going through security again. What a mass of
people, all highly anxious because it was taking so long that most continuing flights were already
boarding. A sprint through the airport got us onto our flight in the last cluster of pax. FCO-JFK
plane was 777, without shell seating but okay. Individual AV. Meal and service were' adequate' but
inferior to most transatlantic flights.

JFK-FCO-ATH and ATH-MXP-JFK in Classe Magnifica. Magnifica Class lounge at JFK Terminal 1 is
outstanding and so is the service. Alitalia B767 has 2-1-2 configuration, so seats are pretty wide,
the same in B777 (2-2-2). Alitalia B767, the transition from the Business Class to the Economy
class cabin consists of a mere curtain as in smaller Boeing aircraft. There are no toilets or
galley in the middle. Toilets can be found in the front of the Business Class cabin or in the very
back of the Economy Class. Seats looking aged. Music and Movie selection average to below average.
Meal above average. Wine selection good, coffee superb. Staff very friendly. FCO airport is in dire
need of facelift and a thorough paintjob, looks so 1980s. FCO Alitalia lounge only serves coffee,
aged salon, depressing. Return: Lounge in ATH is small but new, spotless, with excellent coffee and
selection of sandwiches. Lounge at Malpensa feels chaotic, aged, not clean - good coffee but
nothing to eat. B777 seats in not very good condition, but their width and recline is above
average. Meal very good to excellent, staff friendly, service efficient (5 FAs for approximately 30
passengers).

London to Bari Via Milan, 13th March. Flight out very late due to security alert at Heathrow. Missed
connection at Linate, last of day, to Bari. Ground staff at Linate told me that as Alitalia at
Heathrow had advised me to postpone trip till next day that they could not put me up in a hotel.
Needless to say, nobody at Heathrow had mentioned this, I even showed my second boarding pass for
Bari at the Heathrow gate and was waved through. To make it worse, due to a trade fair at Milan, I
couldn't even pay my own hotel as no rooms were available and had to sleep the night on the benches
at Linate. Remainder of trip was the usual Alitalia - good value, bad food, old planes, good

(however, Malpensa is a disgrace, ugly and dirty). Onward flight to Bologna first delayed 30
minutes, then delay shortened to 15 minutes. Nice ATR-72 for this flight, with a refreshment offered
(drink & biscuits). Arrival in Bologna 10 minutes late. Fast delivery of my luggage. A good

CPH-MXP-PMO-MXP-CPH, all on MD-80 aircraft. Outbound flights smooth, departures and arrivals on time
and plenty of time for transferring in Malpensa. Onboard service a tiny sandwich (inedible) and a
free choice of drink on the CPH-MXP leg and a bag of peanuts or biscuits with non alcoholic drinks
on MXP-PMO leg. Staff friendly and efficient but nothing more. They did their job and that was it. I
waited quite some time for my luggage in Palermo but it eventually arrived. No getting lost during
my transfer, fortunately. Trip back was pretty much the same. I had 3 kgs overweight, but no one
made a comment about that. I was quite worried about my transfer in Malpensa as I only had 45 mins,
but the flight for CPH was late, so I arrived at the gate before boarding had begun. We ended up
being 30 mins late out of Malpensa without receiving an excuse or explanation. Service same as on
the outbound flight, again the staff was friendly and efficient, but none of them will ever win a
smiling contest! Arrived in CPH 20 mins late, and my luggage once again made the transfer.
Considering the excellent transfer times, the cheap fare (200 EUR on a route with no alternatives)
and the fact that Alitalia serve you free food onboard qualifies for 3 stars. That said, I can't
wait for a takeover so the whole company can get out of the current situation. The flight interior
as well as the staff need fresh air!

YYZ-MXP-KRK. Possibly the worst experience ever. We boarded the 767 on time in Toronto, however it
was slightly delayed. First thing that we noticed (traveled with one small child, two kids and two
adults) was that our seats had been separated, even though the check in agent assured us she would
put us together. We asked the crew to offer some older Italian passengers to change seats with us,
and the unfriendly and constantly unhappy stewardess (same with the rest of the crew) told us to
deal with it ourselves and that there is nothing she could do. Fortunately, the passengers
understood our hand signals and we managed to switch seats. The meal service was done after takeoff,
after which the crew disappeared into the galley and into the seats designated for the crew. After
getting yelled at by the crew in the designated seats for taking pictures out the window, when
another passenger asked for help from the exact same flight attendant, he told her that he was off-
duty. Now, when we were approaching the end of the flight, the FAs woke up. When the plane started
its descent the crew started the meal service. While handing out the meals, an FA managed to finally
notice that there were 5 passengers (two babies and 3 adults) in 3 seats. (There are 4 oxygen masks
for the middle row, and there wouldn't be enough for one person.) He started yelling, and saying
that he cant continue his service. Finally, after a moment, one of the babies was handed to a
husband, and the FA continued his "service". When the plane was on final, and descending quite
rapidly, the crew collected the garbage, and literally a minute later the plane touched down. The
MXP-KRK was uneventful on the Alitalia Express ERJ 145, but FAs again unprofessional and unfriendly.

consisted of dry cake and soft drinks (they didnt have milk for coffee, only a powdered milk). MXP-
TRS, arrogant staff at the gate shouting at the pax that didnt show her a ticket. Aircraft E145 with
somewhat restricted legroom but adequate for short journey. Lovely cabin crew served soft drinks
quickly and with a smile. After landing in TRS my bags did not arrive. Alitalia didnt even bother to

YYZ-MXP-CAI. Left Toronto in Business Class in a very old and run down 767. At check in I was
informed that despite my business class there was no access to the Maple Leaf lounges. This was
basically the start of a very bad experience and Alitalia should be ashamed of calling themselves a
high quality airline. I can only hope somebody will take them out of their misery. After a 2 hour
wait at the gate, with no explanation whatsoever we finally departed. FAs initially were friendly
and food served was good. The on-board entertainment in business class in 2007 is a complete joke,
lousy movies on the big screen that is of a very low quality. FA's pretty much disappeared after
food service. Seat was damaged in several area but functioned. Upon arrival the breakfast service
was rushed through and a second espresso was taken away as we were about to land, very bad timing.
The lounge in MXP is an upgraded bus station, with not enough seats, a small selection of
international newspapers and the rest shows that this airline is in dep trouble. The flight to Cairo
was in Business Class, nevertheless BC is 3 seats and no real difference with economy. Overall I
believe that Alitalia can do better, but I will not again book a flight with them. The price quality
ratio was absurd.

YYZ-MXP-YYZ Business Class. Check in was efficient and seamless in the new terminal which Alitalia
operates out of Toronto. The lounge was excellent - Air Canada Star Alliance lounge, with a wide
range of snacks and beverages. Boarding chaotic - I sort of inched along the side of the queue with
the red boarding pass in hand, the gate agent noticed and prioritized my boarding at the last
minute. 767 on this route has 2x1x2 configuration and seats are angled lie flat. Newspapers,
magazines and pre take off beverages offered, as well as amenity kits. After take off drinks were
served and dinner service. It was nostalgic to see Alitalia use a trolley covered in white linen
for the complete service - professionally executed by cheerful FAs. Starters included a choice of
pasta dishes where seconds were offered without hesitation and the wine glass was topped up
continually. Cheese and fruit and delicious Italian pastries. FA's vanished after dinner but there
was one posted in the forward galley who provided snacks / beverages. Inflight entertainment worked
in both directions - your own headphones would be wise as those provided were of low quality. A
full breakfast served prior to landing in Milan. The return trip was equally good. FA's charming
and friendly. Hopefully Alitalia continues in this direction or was I just lucky? I would fly them

arrived at Fiumicino only one hour late. But then no luggage for a very long time; after an hour some
of us got theirs and the rest of us went to report lost luggage. While queuing there the bags appeared
- after 90 minutes! Return on Oct 22 At checkin was told I had better not go to Malpensa as there was
a strike. After an hour's queuing helpful staff rebooked me on Austrian Airlines. I arrived at Arlanda

MIA to MXP return in Economy. Boarding process straightforward. An old 767 in very poor condition. My
seat would not recline without a forceful punch and then it would not return to its position without
aggressive action. The seatback pocket was torn off. My travel partner's tray table was broken so the
surface was not level. In flight entertainment terrible. They audio channels were not working. The
movie was on an old tiny television with poor color and an inaudible soundtrack. The meals were
acceptable. The staff were rude. They prefer to stay in the breakroom that takes up the center of the
plane. As they come and go from this room you can ask them for some assistance as they walk quickly
by. They set up a bottle of water and coke with some cups near the restrooms for you to help yourself
for a drink. Alitalia is in trouble. They do not even serve a napkin with drink service. The
bathrooms were filthy. The return flight was the same awful aircraft, this time with exit row seating
with more space, but again the audio was malfunctioning, and the tray table was broken, seat back
pockets torn. The flight was on time, and nonstop from Miami. Overall the worst experience on any

SKG-MXP on an aging MD80. I had the best leg-room I have had during recent years in Economy Class. It
was a clean aircraft and a full early morning flight. The check-in was not swift due to rather slow
agents, but when at the desk they were polite and friendly actually, the same goes for the gate agents
that were the same as at the check-in desks. Onboard the crews seemed disinterested and not happy.
They were not friendly or professional but they offered the service they were supposed to in both
Italian and good English. The snack service was a cold chocolate cake that was awful for such an early
morning flight and one drink service was available although this was a 2,5 hour flight. The only
reason I chose Alitalia for this flight was because of their direct flight. If I had the chance to
choose and there were other alternatives in the same price class, even with a connection-stop at
another airport, I think that I would go for it. Alitalia has a niche that they don't care for
actually within Europe.

Food was quite good. This flight was delayed on the runway for 45 minutes (not the

long and we arrived at the gate after they had closed the flight. I went to the service counter
expecting the worst. The airline had arranged a bus to take us to the

Bos to MXP, MXP to Naples. Returned FCO to BOS. Have flown Alitalia a number of times in past, but was nervous with recent
postings and news of impending strikes/sale. Pleasantly suprised with quality of service and on
time arrivals. Planes fairly old but everything worked. Food, though not as good as in past, still
better than many domestic carriers. Lugguage not lost. Would fly Alitalia again but customers need
to be aware of potential for strikes and other labor issues until airline is restructured.

LHR-FCO-ATH-FCO-LHR Economy. Flight out delayed by just over an hour and a half. Plane old, dirty
and in good need of a re-furb. Staff surly and barely raised a smile once. No inflight
entertainment to speak of and a 70's style safety video which was most bizarre! Once in Rome parked
miles from the terminal and in a tearing rush to get our connecting flight.
Rome Fiumincino is massive! Almost missed onward flight. Again, attendants were miserable. I speak a
bit of Italian so this helped slightly to raise a smile. Landed in Athens early hours of Friday
morning to find out our cases were still in Rome. They were put on the first flight in the morning.
Return flight on time and so different. Plane was newer, clean and the staff were what I expected of Italians. Friendly, polite and efficient. Food
was poor but for a short 1.5 hour flight not a problem. Landed in Rome with 20 minutes to spare
for our last flight. This plane was also new. Seats were very comfortable and we took off in time
dreading a re-run of what had happend the week before. Cases were some of the first off the
carousel. In conclusion Alitalia were not too bad. They had been the cheapest option to us. If I did that
route again it would be a direct flight but I wouldn't discourage people from flying with them.

We flew back with Alitalia from Malpensa - eventually. It was a shambles. The early morning flight to
Heathrow was cancelled after many false starts and constantly moving the departure time on. The same
thing happened for the afternoon flight. Having gone through security and passport control we were
sent to the holding gate where there were approximately 25 chairs to accommodate all the passengers
for a full A320. We stood for a couple of hours with no one telling us what was going on. Eventually,
and after we had all boarded the bus to go to the aircraft and were then made to get off again, we had
to make our way back through security and passports unaccompanied, to reclaim our baggage. We then
trailed off to go through the whole process again. Again we had to stand for many hours without any
proper information but eventually a plane was found and we eventually left about 19:30. A lot of
people got very angry, particularly those who missed connecting flights at Heathrow, having already
had to re-schedule them once. What a mess!
