Hands down the worst experience I've had on an airplane. I took a total of four flights on a round trip from Orlando to Dayton and never was on time. I was three minutes late on my connecting flight in Atlanta, could clearly see the plane was still outside, and they still wouldn't let me board. This delayed me and another four passengers six more hours until 10pm that night. On the 10pm flight they had everyone boarded, wait for 30 minutes, and they told us that the plane was not flyable. We would have to go to another plane clear across the ATL airport. Once arriving at the new gate, they told us again that they had a mistake, and that we had to go all the way back to terminal we just left. At this point I went to the nearby customer service desk to ask the lady for some clear guidance, and after being told "she didn't want to deal with me" I was given no answer. Eventually, we found a plane that actually flew 45 minutes later, and arrived at our destination 8 hours later then expected. Furthermore, all airplanes' cooling system leaked so it constantly dripped on you during the flight, XM radios never worked, and the seats were like sitting on a rock. It may be a cheap flight, but unless you have a whole day for travel delays, like sitting in airports for hours on end, and receiving less then par customer service by all means throw your money away, and hope your bags don't get lost.

Flying 20+ segments a year, usually between either MKE or ORD, I've taken to flying AirTran whenever possible. As business class seats are rarely booked in advance, I have no issue paying the extra $49 to upgrade upon check-in. I have long legs, and on most coach flights, end up with my knees sandwiched against the seat in front of me, which isn't comfortable for me or the person in front of me. The $49 covers any bags I might check, unlike airlines such as United, which charge for economy-plus as well as any checked bags. However, I can see how attempting to travel on a family vacation on this airline would be difficult. I have used AirTran for trips with a friend before, and we had no issues getting seats next to each other at check-in. As every airline charges fees for various conveniences, asking for $6 to pre- book seats seems relatively minor, as some airlines are charging $45 for carry-on bags.

After so much frustration flying other airlines, I went back to flying Airtran and flights were on time. There was ample room for carryon luggage. Airtran is not fancy, there are no frills, but getting to my destination on time means a lot to me.

Pittsburgh to Ft Myers. Family vacation with husband and four kids. Non stop flights were great. Short wait at check in but no problems. After boarding plane and taking our seats the gate agent came aboard and notified us that the airline was aware of our young son nut allergy. Flight attendant also informed passengers to please avoid nut snacks during flight. I was impressed that they took this effort. Flight attendants on both flights were helpful and courteous. No problems with baggage. We would fly this airline again. Good value, good staff and can't beat the direct flights.

PHX-ATL-BWI return. Purchased tickets 3 months in advance for myself, my wife and our 2 year old son. Found out a week prior I had to pay for advanced seating just so we could all sit together. Miffed about that but it is a low cost airline. Left Phoenix on time and got to Atlanta about 20 minutes early. Left Atlanta a few minutes late but arrived in BWI on time. No problems getting bags. On the return trip, we left Baltimore 45 minutes late due to storms building over the departure route. We arrived in Atlanta with little time to spare to make our connector to Phoenix - AirTran held the flight due to our plane and one from Pittsburgh being late. We made the flight and got into Phoenix about 5 minutes late. Overall not a bad trip. I paid for the priority seating due to the fact we had a toddler with us. Worth the extra $15. Also, I checked in online the night before and we had our bags checked in less than 5 minutes after arriving at the airport. I will probably fly AirTran again the next time we go back east.

Just got back from Orlando, and have to say we were very satisfied with our trip from Lexington to Orlando and back. Staff on both flights very courteous and helpful. Flight back was pretty rough on account of weather I guess, but otherwise ok.

Dulles (IAD), to Kansas City (MCI), via Atlanta. Check-in process was fine, initially, I was informed of a delay in my flight due to weather. Flight was announced as cancelled after the prescribed delay had elapsed. This was frustrating, but after waiting in line for about an hour a nice ticket agent named Ruby booked me (by overselling the flight) on a similar itinerary the next day. No compensation was given as the delay was weather related. The next day, there was no way for me to check baggage or speak to a ticket agent because AirTran does not staff their ticket desk on Saturday, until 3:00 PM. This was inconvenient, but I put up with it. I am in Dulles airport right now waiting for the flight. It leaves in two hours but there are already people congregating for it. My main criticism is that AirTran needs to be more organized and communicative. There was plenty of avoidable downtime that could have been prevented had they been clearer about what was going on and what to do. Also, more ticket agents on the clock would have made their customers significantly happier.

Indianapolis to Orlando with my family for vacation. Found the rates to be a good value, then when I went to book we found out you have to pay to sit together. The kicker is if you have minor children like I do you have to sit next to them. Then they charge you to check baggage at the tune of $15 a bag per person. Our flight was a direct flight of 2 hours, so we decided to save some money and pack carry ons for everyone and only check one bag. Big mistake, we got to the airport only to find out AirTran had cancelled our direct flight and were putting us on a connecting flight through Atlanta and our 2 hour flight was now a 6 hour flight w/4 children and a 2 hr layover. We were told the people on that flight would receive a free flight - they lied. I called to get my free flight only to find out they hadn't applied anything. Then my luggage was shredded, and the inside metal busted. They told me they couldn't do anything about it that I had to make a claim at the airport within 4 hours. I told them the place was closed, he told me it couldn't be. I told him they had hours on the door. He told me he couldn't do anything because I didn't do it within 4 hours. Never mind the fact that my flight arrived at 11 at night, I had 4 children that were exhausted and I couldn't tell the damage of the inside until I unpacked it, which I didn't do at 1 in the morning when I finally got home.

Atlanta to NYC. The seats were comfortable, and service at the gate was helpful. The security screening went without a hitch. Our only problem was that the flight got delayed for a couple hours due to heavy winds, although it was sort of lucky that we got to see the city at night.

Kansas City to Orlando return. Both flights on time and everything for the most part went extremely well. All staff were extremely courteous and professional. The check-in process at both airports a breeze, inflight drink service top notch, and seats offered plenty of arm and leg room.

My husband and I were very unhappy with Air Tran flight from Orlando to BWI. We were flying with our two 5 year old grandchildren and had booked the flight in January. The 5 year olds seat assignments were no where near our seat assignments and none of us were seated together. I called AirTran the night prior to our flight to try and get our seats switched and they wouldn't help. Talked to Customer Service at the airport, again no help. They said talk to the staff at the gate. The gate staff were down right rude and no help. When we boarded the plane I asked the flight attendant for help and she just told me to ask other passengers if they would switch seats. After having to ask numerous people and actually switch seats 4 times, just prior to the plane taking off I was finally able to sit with the two minor children. My husband never did sit near us.
