STN-KUL-PER-KUL-STN. Premium/XL seats for all legs. A340 from STN was old style business class
seats 6 across the cabin, which provide real comfort. Inflight service was hit and miss but
mostly good. E-players good with a reasonable selection of films & music. Pre-ordered food
wasn't much good, small portion and not very tasty. Having to re-check my luggage in KL each
time wasn't ideal, but was quick, only 28 mins from landing to having my bags checked in on
the way out. A330 KUL-PER-KUL had 38 inch pitch seats in 7 across cabin configuration. Think
Premium economy - comfortable and slept well. No recline - you slide the seat base forward.
You get what you pay for, and I got a very cheap journey from the UK to Australia in comfort.
One thing that detracted on the whole trip was the excessive delay back at STN to receive my
baggage, as it took more than 1 hour to arrive.

Cabin Flown: | Economy |
KUL-PER return, Economy & XL seats. Arrived at LCCT and asked at check in desk if it was
possible to upgrade from economy to XL seat. This was available at 300RM per person so I took
advantage of this offer - 24 hrs earlier I checked the price of XL seats for my flight and
they were 1099 RM per person. XL cabin nice but not anywhere near Business Class. Seats wider
and a bit more comfy than Economy seats yet they still do not recline and are impossible to
sleep in. But for 300RM extra they are a bargain. Would I pay 1099 RM for them - no! Flight
was on time, attendants were, well, attendant and all in all a really nice flight except for
inability to sleep! Return flight was in economy as the upgrade at Perth was 250 AUS$ or about
800RM per person! Economy seats very slim and luckily we had 2 seats at rear of plane were
configuration becomes 2x3x2 rather than 3x3x3. God help you if you have a non slim person sit
next to you - you would get squashed!!! Seat pitch though was reasonable. Flight also had
its share of noisy Australian 40'something males on a weekend trip to KL. Prebooked meal was
very small but tasty. Unlike normal Air Asia meals which are cheaper, bigger and there are
more options. Overall Air Asia X is an acceptable low cost airline but the seats are a
nightmare. XL seats are better but can be expensive. For a 5 hr flight they are okay, but
for overnight think carefully about using them as opposed to a normal carrier. If money is
important to you then by all means book AirAsia X but you get what you pay for. I will only
use if they are half the price of mainline carriers.

KUL-STN-KUL on a last minute business trip. Bought Premier seats both ways, booked meal online
and extra baggage allowance on the return leg. Flights OK apart from a few details. Timings
are awful - arrive into Stansted late at night and travel options are limited. Departure at
0105 is fine but don't count on airport duty free - closed! Service on board prompt but
language skills of FA's are hit-and-miss resulting in order mix-ups. Food adequate but I feel
ripped off for paying RM5 for a 300ml bottle of water where airside in KL LCCT a 500ml bottle
costs RM2! Because we are not allowed to take our own food/drink on board, basic essentials
like water should be more affordable as it is a 13 hour flight. Air Asia claims it is because
of the "food restrictions of certain cultures" but I believe it is more about in-flight sales-
how can there be any issue either religious or cultural with water? Muslims don't drink
alcohol but they sell beer/wine and duty free alcohol on board. Generally food on board is a
bit of a rip-off.

KUL-STN-KUL on the A340. I was apprehensive about flying long-haul with a low cost carrier but
it was fine. No individual TV monitors. Excellent value for money; both segments on time. I
wish immigration was quicker.

Gold Coast (OOL) to KL and return. Check in very slow, both times well over 2hrs. This caused
the first flight to be delayed by more than an hour. There were quite a few counters open,
they just worked very slow. Received pre-ordered meals, but nothing to write home about.
Brought our own DVD player, so no comment on entertainment. Seats were very tight and
uncomfortable. If you are over 175cm you should not fly long distances. Customer Service was
non-existent. Would not fly with them again, even if cheap.

PER-KUL. Flight time, cabin service, meals all what to expect on budget airline.
Economy seats quite uncomfortable, will be upgrading to XL seats for return.

KUL-MEL. We flew Air Asia X almost purely for the scheduling. We sprung the extra for XL
seats. While not big people we appreciated the extra room and comfort of the seats in the
A300-300 we flew. The flight was quiet, entertainment quite good and food was fine if small in
portion. The crew were excellent. We'd fly them again - only issues were a bent foot rest
that didn't want to move and the touch screen on the IFE was wobbly. Having to pay for the
entertainment was something of a surprise, it's not clear on the website, but RM28 (A$9.30) is
hard to quibble with.

OOL-KUL-OOL. The daytime flight from OOL to KUL was great, flight on time, meal fine, service
very good, value for money. The return overnight flight back was the opposite. Check in at
LCCT took 1.25 hours (only 15 mins at OOL), beer was warm and staff took ages to respond to my
request for assistance. There wasn't enough leg room to sleep properly and the staff made
announcements at odd hours with all of the lights on which broke up the sleep even more.
However, considering the price it was good value for money.

KUL-STN-KUL. I was generally surprised that seating in standard class was acceptable to me at
least. The only thing was that the window seating legroom was cramped because of the IFE boxes
under the seats in front. If the arrival time into STN is pushed forward to the early morning
instead of just before midnight, then it will be perfect timing. The return at 0125 is just
right as you will have a full day in London or wherever, before checking in for the return
flight. Also by then the airport will be without the crowds and security checking is a breeze.
Managed to get in a lot of sleep during both sectors and for the price paid, I have no
complaints.

KUL-HGH return, RM620 including tax is amazing compare with MH (no direct flight between KUL
and Hangzhou), prepaid meal a disaster, seats were narrow and legroom was tight. Staff were
busy selling food and duty free despite it was midnight flight. Would fly again but not on a
long-haul flight.

KL to London return with 2 other single flights while in Asia and overall pleased with the my
journeys. On the long haul flight, the seat size and legroom was fine. I would recommend that
if you pick your seat, you should to avoid the window ones as they have IFE boxes under all
those seats by the wall. The food is okay, service ok too. I read someone's comment about the
crew focusing more on their appearance rather than the service and there might be a bit of
truth in that. London-KL flight was nice and quiet; it leaves at 1.35am so great to get into
sleeping mode for most of the flight. It was maybe 35% empty so some lucky ones even managed
to get 3 seats in the middle row to lie down! KL to London was full though and the reading
lights did not work for some of us - so when they switched the main lights off, you had
nothing to do but try and sleep. When I asked the hostess about it, she said (giggling) that
the engineers were aware about the problem, but that it has not been dealt with. The other
very irritating thing was the call bells. One of them kept going off and would ring over and
over again disturbing everyone's sleep.

STN-KUL return. Prepaid meal was ok, nothing more nothing less. Prices for beverages and food
reasonable (Coke - 1.5$, beer 3$, Sandwich 3$, etc). Got a portable player for 30 RM (about
10$), selection of movies and tv series was ok. Seats old style, good recline, good legroom,
footrest. 2-4-2 configuration was super. All in all fair and decent service, but at 500 GBP
return (checked baggage and meal included) is not at all that cheap. Would fly again, but only
at a lower fare, otherwise I prefer legacy carriers which now offer competitive prices.

London Stansted to Kuala Lumpur return. On the plus side, seats on Airbus A340 have a better
pitch than I had expected and seats appear to recline a little somewhat. However, there is
still a cramped feeling in the cabin. The cabin crew were pleasant and friendly enough. The
English announcements made by the flight crew were not very clear. AirAsia X terminal in KL
airport is quite smart, with air conditioning, and check in a breeze. A toilet on the plane
had broken seat that was not fixed, inflight meals were not nicely presented (it is a budget
airline and I accept that), and did not taste good. I also noticed that their prices for meals
charged on board are much higher if you fly from the UK, than if you fly from Malaysia. For
instance, one of their main meals cost £6 from Stansted to KL but only about £2 (12 Malaysian
ringgit) from KL to Stansted , almost three times cheaper! Most passengers who fly the
airline, are budget conscious, and this difference in price really needs quite a bit of
"explaining" from the airline - they won't want others to think that they are exploiting their
customers, do they? Some of the departure and arrival times of AirAsia X are not very
passenger friendly. Imagine taking off from Stansted at 1.20am or arriving into Stansted at
midnight! In future would fly AirAsia X if it is medium haul flights but not long haul
to/from London.

KUL-STN return. Both flights on time. Outward leg in a standard seat was fine, aside from a
malfunctioning call alarm directly behind me (seat 46A) which kept pinging. Return leg was in
an XL seat after being offered the chance to upgrade for £100 at Stansted. XL seats are
fantastic value and comfortable. Cabin crew with lots of smiles and hardworking. Perhaps the
only room for improvement would be with the food, which is not quite as tasty as regular Air
Asia meals. Comfort kits are useful optional extras.

Travelled on Air Asia from London throughout Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore. While you can't
complain about the cost, the service is in line with what you pay for. This means delayed
flights, very small seats, poor food and ridiculous temperatures. On the way to KL the cabin
was freezing - luckily we had brought jumpers and a blanket (knowing they would overcharge us
for their own blankets). However, on the way back to London, we all had to sit on the plane
for an hour (delaying our flight) with no AC, in stifling, unbearable heat as their generator
or something had broken down. No one made an announcement and it was left up to some of us
individuals to actually ask what was going on. On a 13 hour flight, with nothing to do but
sleep, your only option is to purchase one of the E-players which is only available for 6
hours due to the battery and offers a very very limited choice of entertainment. Again this is
at a hiked-up cost. Staff are at least reasonably friendly. Would only use this airline again
due to the low cost of flights but even this is often not low enough considering you could fly
on other regular airlines for not that much more

Air Asia X - pretty much what you get for what you pay. And for the price I paid ($490 return
from Mel-KL-Laos) I find it hard to complain. The flight Mel-KL was delayed by an hour due to
maintenance on the plane, but made up time in the air. The seats are very narrow since they've
set up the main cabin on the A330 to accomodate 9 seats across (as opposed to other airlines
with 8). Paid extra ($25AUD at time of original booking) for exit row and had a bulkhead seat.
Meals are not that bad - the nasi lemak is a good choice and the meals are quite cheap. Second
meal selection cost $15, but was edible. Beers are 10 RMB (about $3.50 AUD). Had worse.
Flights are pretty empty, so unless you're in a bulkhead you can stretch out over two seats
more often than not (bulkhead seats have the tray table between seats). Not much in terms of
entertainment - opted not to hire digiplayer due to having seen most of the movies) but you
can amuse yourself for the 8.5 hour flight. Overall, good value compared to price paid for
Australia domestic with budget carriers. It's very much a case of buyer beware when it comes
to baggage etc. Will fly AirAsia X again - if the price was right.

While I have no problem with Air Asia short haul, I made the mistake of flying OOL-KUL AirAsia
X. The seats were so narrow, that the person on the aisle had to overhang into the narrow
walkway and get shoulder butted every time anyone walked past. The seats don't recline, but
the base in theory can move forward, but as your knees are already jammed into the back of the
seat in front, that's impossible. Even with a half empty plane we were not allowed to change
seats. The meal came in recycled cardboard cups with a lid that required you to half dismantle
the cardboard to open. While my wife had Asian and I had western food, it all tasted like the
cardboard container. On check-in Gold Coast I was told my bag was overweight, even though I
had already checked as correct on electronic scales. I was not allowed to see the weight, so I
simple took out the presents for friends and handed to my son who lives in Brisbane as I was
not going to be conned into paying excess when I knew it was not. Altogether totally
forgettable flight. The only thing right was the plane was on time.with a midnight departure, cabin lighting are normally kept at a minimum, but because Air Asia
want to generate as much sales from meals and gifts, the cabin lighting was turned to the
maximum. Public announcements were also too loud and despite having earplugs, I was
constantly being woken up. The XL seats were much better in terms of leg room and would
recommend these to anyone that is more than 6ft.
