DEL-DXB on an A330-200. There was no personal television and shared TV's were not in a good condition. The toilets smelt and there was a shortage of vegetarian food so I did not eat anything. The crew was co- operative but had limited English skills. I will never fly Air India again, Emirates is much better.

Hong Kong to Seoul on a Boeing 777-300 - had 2 check-in counters open for the entire flight. Took me an hour just to get to the check-in line and all I had was carry-on items. After boarding and finding my seat, I discovered my assigned seat with a used blanket and pillow and a used water bottle stuffed in the seat pocket in front of me. Along with stains on the seat in front of me and dirt and grime covering the fold out table. The floor alongside the cabin walls were covered in dirt and trash and the plastic shielding for many of the seat parts were cracked. I tried to find reprieve in another seat, but the rest of the cabin was in similar condition. Worst flight I have ever taken.

BOM-DXB-BOM. Outbound flight on an A321 was on time. Only six channels on IFE and no headphones in seat-pocket. Meal (non-veg) was good both ways. Return flight delayed 3hrs. It was an A320 and IFE had same channels but there were headphones this time. Overall the aircraft and service is nice but the delays cause dissatisfaction. Flew AI just because the fares were much lower than other airlines.

DEL-IXU via Bhubaneshwar. Both flights were on time on a CRJ 700. Naturally, comfort factor comes down to zero. No IFE and almost nil leg space. Seats are cramped and offer almost no push back. Meals were served well and decent, keeping in mind that airlines in India are all trying to do away with the catering concept entirely. The ticket prices are quite stiff for this route and yet, there is no business class on this aircraft. Its a small plane that can accommodate only 70 passengers. I have been flying Air India for a while but this experience will make me think before buying a ticket for another flight. When you are flying for 4 hours and paying a high price, you certainly wish for a comfortable journey.

BKK-DEL. Only one food option. Seats almost do not recline, entertainment screens are faulty, flight info unavailable or not working, no paper towels in WC. They did not distribute immigration forms onboard causing a delay later on during immigration formalities. A321 a wrong jet for a 5-hour flight.

LHR-DEL-BKK economy. I flew Air India for its generous 35kg baggage allowance. LHR-DEL 777, had tired seats with ironmongery sticking into my back, but seats are spacious and many were unoccupied so plenty of room. Inflight entertainment - seat-back screens worked intermittently and the neighbouring seat had buttons missing from the controller. Choice of non-Indian movies very limited anyway. Plane held at the gate for about an hour after 21.30 scheduled departure, and no attempt made to serve drinks. Drinks eventually served 2 hrs 40mins into the flight. No wine with the meal. Chicken curry was excessively greasy. Breakfast coming into DEL was also poor. Indian airports offer tediously repetitive security checks at different points and DEL-BKK was delayed 1 hr 20mins. After boarding we waited at the gate for another 40 mins whilst passengers from a delayed flight straggled on. The Airbus looked pretty tired but seats were more comfortable, again not overly busy, and service was somewhat better on this flight with water offered frequently. Drink service was limited again. Dinner was better quality than LHR and tasty, but tiny portions were disappointing. They didn't seem to make up any time on this flight so although I'd allowed 3 hrs for my transfer to domestic in BKK, I missed my connection. Timekeeping was consistently poor, DEL is a series of queues, cabin service was disinterested, the planes are relatively new but shabby, food and entertainment lacking - and the tickets are expensive.

YYZ-DEL-CCU in business class. Clean plane, working seats with recline for sleeping (not flat bed), reasonable Indian food service and hospitable staff. Slept for 7 hrs and enjoyed the flight, especially the early arrival in DEL. Fair selection of video, considering almost all of their passengers onboard are Indian. Air India staff supported my transit in DEL in an efficient manner and customs was provided on arrival in CCU.

ORD-FRA-BOM-MAA return. ORD-BOM sector on Boeing 777-300ER, The aircraft was clean, the seat backs almost had no cushioning. The food was good, the cabin crew were friendly, though they rarely smiled. The AVOD was a joke, too many freeze ups. The 2 hour layover in FRA was almost necessary, for stretching and walking around a little bit. BOM-ORD was about the same, the only difference being, the cabin crew were smiling a little more. BOM-MAA was a red-eye, on an Airbus 319, but they still served a light dinner, which was nice, after a 3 hour layover in BOM. Ground staff in BOM and MAA were courteous despite the time of night at 1 am and 3 am respectively. The return MAA-BOM was an evening flight and the food was slightly better, as it was a full dinner, but had to circle over BOM for an hour, following a runway intrusion. Overall, not bad, but I was left with the impression that everybody, did just the minimum and did not want to go the extra mile.

YYZ-DEL, PNQ-DEL-YYZ in Business. Business class on B777-300ER was excellent. Food and service were good although mainly Indian food choices. IFE has little selection of English movies. Business class seats are good - not great - although I slept well. They don't quite go full flat. All J passengers are given a nice pillow and duvet. Lounge in Delhi is hard to find but good and new. PNQ (Pune) to DEL another story even though in business class. Plane was dirty - no attempt to clean the previous passengers refuse was made. Flight time YYZ-DEL much better than connections through Europe. Arrive at 4pm rather than midnight, so much easier to adjust.

PVG-BOM (via DEL) BOM-EWR. Flight from PVG to BOM was absolutely empty, even though it was in a 777-300. Had a row to myself. Plane a little old/worn looking. Flight attendants insisted on meals (although they had a good selection of food and drink) even though it was a 10 pm flight. Had to wait 2 hrs on the plane in DEL while they cleaned up. Unfortunately got to BOM at 5 am. BOM to EWR was packed. Another 777-300 fairly worn. Was delayed for an hour because one family with small children needed to switch seats and everyone was being uncooperative. Flight attendants were pretty attentive, good meals, left snacks out when they weren't serving. AVOD had few America movies. Check-in was slow and inefficient and BOM terminal was less than impressive. Overall would avoid Air India if I could, but it was not an unpleasant experience.

LHR to TRV via DEL. The flight took off at 21.30 but by 1.00 we had still not been served, even water. There were little to no options with the food. Flight attendants were not attentive and never answered when called, we had to go searching for them for basic needs like water while they sat and chatted away.

IDEL to COK. The flight was superb, the aircraft an Airbus A319 (VT-SCI) was clean, the air hostesses were warm and showed great professionalism and courtesy. The service was great. The IFE consisted of even a Malayalam movie (regional language at COK) which for a domestic flight is surprising.

Toronto-Delhi non-stop. Poor timing of inflight meal service. Left at 345pm, we were given snacks and dinner by 5pm, instead of spreading them out. Dinner at 7pm would have been ideal. One positive point, flight got to Delhi one full hour ahead of schedule. Coming back was a disaster, Air India ground crew mis-allocated the seats for almost every single passenger. Took the flight crew 2.5 hrs to sort out the mess. In fact I was suspicious with our own seat arrangements, when I asked the check-in staff, he said they should be fine. I wanted to check after check-in but before the boarding gate, there was no Air India Help Desk in between at a big airport like Delhi. I like the timing of these flights as opposed to getting into India in the middle of the night and getting back to Toronto in the afternoon rush hour.

EWR-BOM-BLR round trip. Both outbound and inbound flights were full. Flight attendants disappeared after the first meal only to reappear 5 hrs later. The AVOD is pathetic, to say the least. The screen did not work on both flights and I needed to ask 4 times to 3 different flight attendants to turn on the re-program button. The AVOD finally worked when we had 3 more hours out of the entire 15.5 hrs to touchdown. Food was average, limited soft and alcoholic drinks selection. Seats were old and looked like they needed a thorough cleaning.

Delhi to Dubai. I was traveling with my wife, 1 infant and 1 child and despite confirming the bassinet seat twice over the phone, we got a seat which could not take the infant. On boarding we found our seats were in the middle of the aircraft. A/C was not working, the crew advised that the it will only work once the aircraft is on the runway. There was no seat belt extension for infant, the attendant advised that we hold the baby tightly during take off and landing. The children's meal was missing along with no baby food for infant and no juice. These conditions were not acceptable.

JFK-DEL return in Economy class. Check-in was quick and the boarding process at JFK and DEL were quite orderly with multiple agents attending to passengers. I had done the on-line confirmation 24 hrs beforehand and got my choice of seats on both flights. The planes were relatively new B777's and were clean and well-maintained both times. The flights took off slightly late but landed on schedule. The seat pitch was comfortable and there was enough leg room. Three meals were served with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. FA's were not artificially friendly but seemed genuinely polite and helpful. The bathrooms remained clean for the duration of the flights. I found the overall product on this route to be very good in terms of comfort, convenience, and value.

London to Trivandrum via Mumbai. Flight attendants were hardly seen during the flight. The quality of the snack (sandwich) was below standards and food quantity was limited. Toilets were unclean. Elderly and parents with kids were not attended to. It looked like they operated a help yourself policy by just leaving water and juices for us to serve. FA's were more content to sit and chat between themselves rather than aiding passengers. The domestic transfer (7hrs transit) was another pain as we had to go through customs at Mumbai, was transferred to the domestic airport which had no restaurants or resting places and no temporary accommodation was offered.

MAA-DXB flight. Flight left and arrived on schedule. Onboard the Dinner menu was typical South Indian food, it was tasty. Inflight entertainment system has fixed movies and music and no option/choice. Flight attendants were listening and responding to passenger needs, blankets were always in short supply. While the flight did not get an aerobridge gate for landing in Terminal 1, this is compensated by the comfortable bus ride which took us directly near the immigration gate. Overall, a very good service for the price I paid.

New York-London-Mumbai. Cabin crew had no control over passengers during landing, many were allowed to get cabin baggage down from over head lockers when seat belt signs were on. Avoid sitting near the toilets, I did and passengers seemed to jabber louder than the engine noise. Delhi to Bangkok much improved, better behaved passengers and a more professional cabin crew.

Travelled from Singapore, from check-in onwards things could have been better, with 4 of us travelling together we were given seats in different parts of aircraft although 2 seats next to us were vacant. On board service was below average, the crew vanished after breakfast for next 2 hrs with a call for water being attended after 25 min. Next round of refreshment served was warm coke/mountain dew. Air India has given me the most incompetent and down-right rude service I have ever received with any airline. They cancelled my ticket without any notice, refused to exchange it for another flight, and were completely disorganized in managing the strike in general. After that they refused to help me book a bus or hotel. I found myself alone and unprepared in Delhi (a dangerous city for females travelling alone). As a result I spent over 10 hours in the airport being redirected to various desks before giving up in frustration and buying a new ticket from Kingfisher. From Kingfisher I had a ticket to my destination within 5 minutes. The service got even worse when I tried to get a refund for the ticket which Air India had cancelled. Agents are rude, disorganized, and unhelpful. I would suggest avoiding this airline, especially where connecting flights are concerned.

Toronto-Delhi-Bombay. We had to do immigration in Bombay due to international flight. Air India gave us domestic boarding pass at Delhi Airport on our connect flight to Bombay. I spent 3.5hrs in immigration telling them It was not my mistake. I never left Delhi Airport, I was in transit. Airline transfer my luggage. Bombay immigration officer took photocopy of my passport and e-ticket and told me that this is a common problem with Air India. At Toronto airport same thing happen to me when I ask for my connecting flight's boarding pass.

ICN-HKG return. ICN-HKG: check in took a long time, causing a long queue, fight was delayed for 3 hrs. Cabin was a bit dirty, FAs weren't attentive, disappeared, and even allowed passenger to go to the toilet just a few mins after takeoff when the seat belt sign still on. Foot-rest happened to be broken, no inflight magazine, low quality headset. Seat and recline OK, food OK, toilet OK. HKG-ICN, check in was quick and no delay. Cabin was a big mess as glasses, blankets and headsets from previous flight passengers weren't picked up from the seats. I asked for a new headset to a FA but she said there were none left, and it's very boring to fly without any entertainment. However, seat and recline were comfortable, foot-rest OK, food excellent, and great FAs! They were friendly and attentive, and always smiled while talking to the passengers. They offered a glass of water to the passengers before takeoff and landing.

I travelled on Chicago-Frankfurt-Delhi Sector on B777-300ER. A very comfortable ride to Delhi. Check-in was easy and very quick. The seats were very comfortable with a good recline. I personally found interior ambience a little too loud/bright, but the overall comfort was nice during the night flight. The entertainment system was pretty good with a nice selection of Hollywood films. Some of the Hindi films were a little outdated, but had good Hindi classic selection. The only thing I missed was the camera which was disabled on my aircraft due to some 'technical difficulty'. Air India did not let me out of the aircraft with an empty stomach. Food quality and taste was excellent! They should improve upon their beverage selection. The flight stewards were extremely courteous and helpful. The new Air India is definitely more than value for money!

USA to Hyderabad, the flight stopped at Mumbai. Passengers need to do customs clearance sometimes at Mumbai and sometimes at Hyderabad. Customs clearance location is determined by the flight you are travelling - which you don't know while booking the tickets. It does not make sense to do customs clearance at Mumbai if one has to go to Hyderabad which is also an international airport. Customs clearance at Mumbai creates lot of problems because you need to collect your baggage, do customs clearance and then you have to run to a different terminal. If your first flight (USA to Mumbai) gets delayed for some reason, then you are in big trouble, you might need to wait until next day and they don't even provide hotel accommodation. Be careful if you are booking with Air India. It is the worst airline in many ways. You would not get correct assistance, information from the staff and their customer service is very bad.

Frankfurt - Delhi – Kathmandu return. Would not fly Air India again. Flight attendants abrupt and pretty much disappeared for most of the flight, even allowing people to get up from their seats while the plane is moving on the tarmac. FRA-DEL (overnight flight), it was unclear if the in-flight entertainment system was not working or shut off. Overhead reading lights were shut off and could not be used. Although we got through the Transit Counter in DEL on the way to/from KAT without too much waiting, there was confusion and minor chaos. Also felt hesitant about the safety standards of the planes. Our checked baggage did not get lost, and flights were on time. DEL-KAT was cancelled due to a pilot strike : AI managed to get us onto a Jet Airways plane (much better!) to KAT departing earlier that the scheduled AI plane.

Delhi to JFK. The new Delhi airport is a huge improvement over the old one, but they still have problems. For a second time this year, they had trouble processing my passport at the check-in, which took an inordinate amount of time. Once through the security the Air India lounge is just a bar where one can get a limited selection of snacks and drinks with the invitation card. It was hot as hell in there and there's not even screen to monitor the flight departure status, which is annoying when the distance to your gate is long. I reached my flight during the final call, which didn't mean that we were anywhere close to departing. Instead, we waited for connecting passengers from two domestic flights, which were delayed. This may have been due to the continuing Air India pilots strike, but why rush us onboard when we had to sit for 2 hours in the cabin before departing? Our departure time was supposed to be 0020, but we actually took off around 0230. The flight was nice and comfortable, service excellent and the seat comfort is good. The business class seats recline to a flat bed. The only complaint I have is regarding the selection of films. While there's an ample collection of Bollywood movies, there were only 6 second rate new English language films and 2 classics - they were the same as on the flight from New York to Delhi I had taken earlier.

LHR-BOM-BLR. At LHR the check-in people refused to through check to BLR. Asked to clear customs at Mumbai and check-in again for BLR. At Mumbai nobody had a clue what needs to be done after customs clearance. Missed the BLR flight. Staff re-booked for the next flight which was 10 hrs later. Spent the night in the departure lounge at Mumbai with no food or water. In the morning we were asked to go to domestic terminal with all the luggage. At the domestic terminal we were informed that we have not been booked in the flight - but just flight timings have been printed by the AI staff at international terminal. Stood in queue to rebook. DEL-BOM-IXE, check in was in complete chaos at 5 in the morning. Check in staff slow and unhelpful. Plane was hotter than the terminal as the auxiliary engine had not been started, no air-conditioning till the plane pushed off. The cleanliness of the aircraft left much to be desired. IFE was pathetic and only 1 hindi movie available, no magazine, though food turned out to be nice. Transit at Mumbai a breeze with only 2 airlines sharing a huge terminal. BOM-IXE (Mangalore) flight was nearly empty but crew nice, even though the food was terrible. Short flight hence no IFE, but a selection of newspapers and magazines were on offer. Comfortable seats and the aircraft was clean.

London Heathrow via Mumbai to Bangkok. The first part was excellent, lots of free seats, and plane appeared to have better leg room. The attendants were adequate although abrupt. The food was excellent if you like spicy food. The fun started in Mumbai, on the smaller plane to transit to Bangkok. The Security checks were madness and chaotic and the rudeness of the staff was unbelievabl . The bus that was arranged to take everyone on the next journey was inadequate and everyone was shoved on like cattle, and to make matter worse the packed bus was stationary without direction for a long extended period quite distressing for a lot of the older passengers. Inflight entertainment was good.

Chicago to Hyderabad via Delhi - per the itinerary we were not required to change plans in Delhi. But that never happened both ways. The crew didn't have any idea about going further to Hyderabad and asked all the passengers to get off the flight in Delhi and clear immigration and customs. The airport crew in Delhi good, but Air India crew was completely lost and didn't care. Cabin staff rude and impolite. They all disappear after take off and only appear once in 3-4 hours. Equipment on the flight doesn't work and as mentioned the crew is never there to help or provide any assistance. The food and the entertainment is very limited and are the same choices on both ways. Ran out of wine, beer and juices. Before flying I thought the reviews cannot be that bad about this particular airline, but it is worse in reality.

LHR-DEL-BKK, first leg B777-300ER, food great, crew attentive. 2nd leg on A321 still good, food great and crew excellent. BKK-BOM got about 40 minutes from BOM and diverted to Ahmedabad, due to heavy traffic at BOM and not enough fuel to hold for the hour. When finally arrived at BOM, they held the LHR flight for about 20 of us who were connecting, albeit a bit manic at BOM, finally made it.

LHR to BKK via Delhi and return. Original booking to fly Dec 25 but 3 weeks before departure had no connecting flight so flight changed to Dec 24 (6 in our party). LHR-DEL poor service, IFE not working in most seats, food passable. Found FA's to be brusque to the point of being rude. Transfer security body search for all despite being only transfer passengers. DEL-BKK the Plane was filthy, toilets inoperative (First class cabin toilets only working) food was terrible, IFEagain inoperative in most seats. Return journey duplicated. I would not choose to fly Air India again, my worst experience so far.

LHR-DEL-KTM-DEL-LHR. LHR-DEL on a new 777-300ER. Great AVOD, food very nice and plenty of drinks, FAs professional and flight was on time. Connecting in DEL a bit chaotic, this was during the last days of Terminal 2. DEL-KTM nice too. IFE as well (even though it was a 1h30 flight on an A319) and nice hot curry with a large choice of drinks. Return leg was better as the connection took place in Terminal 3 which is much newer and efficient than the old terminal. I would definitely fly Air India again, great prices and inflight service.

LHR-DEL-BKK-DEL-LHR. LHR-DEL was ok but cabin crew need educating on customer service, IFE was a non-starter due to the system continually crashing and food was terrible. DEL-BKK was a disaster from the start, we all had to check in again for boarding passes for our connecting flight to BKK - not funny when 150+ passengers are being served by only one individual taking up to 10mins per passenger, this took 2.15 hrs to process for all waiting passengers. On the aircraft we were told there will be an hour delay due to air traffic control, 2 hrs later still left on the tarmac, eventually after 2.5 hrs we took off - while waiting there was no offer of water, air conditioning was not working. Once airborne asked for a Thai arrival card but only to be told, quite we don't have any. Experience on my return leg was a mirror image of my outbound flight. I can only advise not to use them regardless of how cheap they may appear.

Toronto to Hyderabad via New Delhi and the experience of flight between Toronto and New Delhi is OKAY, everything fell apart afterwards. It was total chaos when I tried to get into my transit flight to Hyderabad since it was cancelled. Nobody in Air India staff has any clue on how to handle this situation as if this happened first time. During my return the Delhi Toronto leg of my flight has been cancelled and Air India managed to put us through Delhi - New York but the ticket information they have provided for New York to Toronto is a total farce. The connection flight they mentioned in FIM (Flight Interruption Manifest) doesn't even exist. So after 3 hrs wrangling in JFK airport I managed a ticket to Toronto but not without wasting 8hrs in total at JFK airport, New York. I will never fly Air-India again.

Business class Chicago-Hyderabad. The business class lounge in Chicago is pathetic, located in a remote corner of the airport and not been updated in decades. The boarding process in Chicago was chaotic. No priority boarding for business class. Inflight, they served a snack about an hour after take off, around 4:30PM. There was no activity for further dinner, so I asked the attendant and he said that it will not be served for another 3 hours. Although they said that there is no flight change in Delhi, we were asked to deplane and walk through very long corridor to get to a "one lane" security gate. They made us clear the security again and were asked to go back to the same gate. In the process the flight was delayed by an hour. On the way back, the business class lounge in Hyderabad was good. Flight was delayed by an hour and there was no announcement. Flight to Delhi smooth and they pulled the same routine on us again, going through one lane security gate. There were several flights at the same time and the lanes were mile long, with crying babies and the whole nine yards. Again, no priority for business class passengers! Delhi's new airport (IGI) was opened in a rush. It is incomplete and inefficient. There is no business class lounge in IGI airport for Air India. They directed us to a Sports Bar and told us that it is the lounge. Flight out of IGI was more than 3 hours late taking off and there was no announcement nor an apology. Once again, no priority boarding for business class. The food on the plane was marginal and finally, I barely made my connection out of Chicago. Although the fares are cheaper than other airlines, so is the service, treatment and punctuality.

EWR-DEL-BLR. The business class lounge in Newark is nice, but terrible in Indian Airports. Air India is that the business class is often not fully booked, so you get more personal space. The seats on B777-200ER were fine. The plane isn't as clean as other airlines, but tickets are cheap. Food is good if you like Indian food. The in-flight entertainment works, which is almost miraculous. However, the transfer service between the international and domestic terminal is inexcusable.

LHR-DEL-LHR. Easy check in at both airports. B777 is the newest addition to Air India but it seems the plane was already past its sell by date. The inflight entertainment system was a complete joke. You'll be lucky if yours works. I tried 3 different seats and none worked. Most others kept on crashing - choice of films is minimal. The cuisine was the worst I have ever had on an airline. Cabin crew need to be re trained as they all seem disinterested in what they are doing. Call bells not answered so its best just to go to the galley. The pre flight safety demo was a mess. One crew member was pointing out emergency exits as the other was putting on life jacket.

I recently travelled Air India from London to Kathmandu and transited in Delhi. The flight and service from London was fine. I had read a lot about the new Terminal 3 at Delhi and on arrival was duly impressed – until we hit the Transit Desk. We had been issued with boarding cards for the Kathmandu flight in London and our baggage had been booked all the way through so in theory it should be straightforward – a quick security check and then through to the gate. However Air India who took our boarding passes off us, made us all complete some hand written forms, and after over an hour of standing in lines, then re-issued us with identical boarding passes. We didn’t have time to sample any of the wonderful facilities in the new terminal as we spent all our time standing in queues - other Indian airlines seem to be able to process their transit passengers in a few minutes. We flew back from Kathmandu on the first day of the Dewali Festival – in hindsight a big mistake. The flight was delayed by three hours however we were told that the London flight was also delayed so we should be able to make it. There were 40 or so passengers in transit from Kathmandu to London and we duly headed for the Transit Desk in high hopes. There appeared to be no-one at the Transit Desk who knew anything and then finally with difficulty we discovered from the staff of other airlines that there was no prospect of us getting boarding passes because Air India simply had no staff on duty on the transit desk. Our London flight left after two hours and finally a dejected Air India staff member turned up. Some four hours later we finally received our boarding passes for a flight the following morning. Security Staff were patient and did their best to try to calm these justifiably angry international customers.

Going out to Kathmandu via Delhi there was one man on the transfer desk for 200 passengers, his computer kept crashing and it took a suggestion of a passenger to move to another computer before there was an adequate service. Total time in queue 90 mins. The return journey began at Kathmandu with a delay time of 3hrs with no explanation, on arrival at Delhi AI knew they had 200+ passengers to transfer in double quick time and they had the same man by himself on the transfer desk with the same slow computer taking 15 mins to process one passenger. There was lots of angry passengers who had missed connections but officials were totally oblivious to the complaints. Then everything came to a halt as the man processing the transfers took himself off on-walk about. Eventually got boarding pass after 3hrs for a flight that was due to leave at 14.55 but took off at 19.00. To cap it all on reaching the gate there was only a handful of passengers as they had boarded the rest and it took over an hour and lots of phone calls to get a bus out to the plane. Then the terminal doors failed so more time was lost as officials tried to open them. We joined the rest of the passengers who had been waiting for 90mins aboard then sat for a further 30mis without explanation. On the insistence of a passenger the Captain announced he had been trying to get an explanation for the delay but failed. During the 90 min waiting on board staff had served one meal so it was very late before we managed to get food. Tried to locate cabin crew for water but they had all vanished!

I travelled with my wife and 7 year old child from Amritsar to Sharjah. I chose the flight because of its convenient timings but not a cheaper option. The check in staff were young but untrained and not helpful. They allocated different seats to a family of three with a young child of 7. When I made a request to change the seats as we are travelling as a family, they simply said they cannot do anything as they allocated all the window seats to passengers before us. On boarding the plane we found flight was half full and there were still few 3 seats together vacant. The cabin crew sorted out our problem and let us sit together. The plane was not cleaned properly. Newspapers from the previous flight still lying there. Found the seats cramped and uncomfortable. FA’s performed their duties and were answering the calls. Our request for child meal was not met. Drink service on this route but without soda and ice. Meal tasty but food portions very small showing the signs of cost cutting. No Entertainment on this 3 hour flight. The only good thing about this flight is that it departed and arrived on time.

Food nothing special - in fact compared to what others had said it was disappointing, and it's no better than BA or AC on this route. The let down with AI is the crew and service they were at best surly - but that's only when you saw them, as they spent most of the flight in the galley reading newspapers. They closed the bar 3 hrs before arriving in YYZ and everything was an inconvenience.

Toronto - London Heathrow. I took this particular flight because it was the best price for economy class on this route. Check in and excellent, and flight attendants were all competent and kind. B777-300ER was clean although I found the personal entertainment device-remote control placement dug into my hip and effectively narrowed the seat width (I am not overweight). I thought the food was very good - I am not Indian but I found the food was far more flavourful than the usual bland fare on transatlantic flights. My greatest complaint, and why I am reluctant to take Air India again, is the atrocious web interface and on-line customer support. On both outward and return flights, I was unable to pre-select seats, check in, nor print my boarding passes. I had to call the telephone customer support and select my seats. I discovered the call centre has the wrong seat map for this aircraft, leading to the assignment of the wrong seats, which then had to be corrected at the check-in counter. Imagine pre-selecting an aisle in the bulkhead row, getting to the airport and discovering that the seat is actually a middle seat one row back from the bulkhead? On my return from Heathrow, I called both the London and Delhi call centres and discovered that these agents all had the wrong seat maps! I had to get to the airport, endure the usual long lines to get a satisfactory seat. If it is price alone, you can't beat this set up but if you want some peace of mind and trustworthiness from your carrier, then you'd be better off choosing another airline.

Pretty basic breakfast provided, and that's it. Service functional, but the crew certainly aren't brimming with enthusiasm. I like the timings - leaving SIN at 09.15 and arriving in Delhi just past noon, and the fare is less than half of what SQ charges. You get what you pay for, I suppose, but AI could improve the product with minimal effort if they ever get their act together.

HKG-LHR via BOM. Sector to BOM via DEL on ancient A310. Only 3 pax in C class ensured attentive service. The fun started at Mumbai - after a long taxi we parked at a remote stand by a cargo shed. An old set of stairs was brought alongside which were too high and despite many efforts could not be lowered. At one point we counted eleven people on the ground looking at the stairs and scratching their heads. It took an hour to deplane - fortunately my London flight was delayed by 90 mins. 30 mins to get through security despite there being only eight people in front of me. London sector on a new 777 with flat bed seats ensured a good rest which after the stress of transiting Mumbai was needed! Good value for money but I'm not sure I'd go through Mumbai again.

BOM-JFK. Check in fast, but boarding a tedious shuffle with people jostling for position and economy passengers attempting to board early. Maharaja lounge at BOM is comically outdated. I recommend avoiding it altogether as the actual terminal after the security check is fairly nice. Flew in the B777-200LR, seats are relatively comfortable with 180 degree recline and plenty of leg room. Food and drink fine. I was awakened during the flight by an attendant to be asked if I want lunch - not what I needed. Myself and others experienced a condensation drip from the overhead compartments onto our seats periodically during the flight. The crew stuffed tissues to resolve the problem and seemed to have anticipated the complaint. No offer to move to another seat. Not flying Air India again if I can help it.

Service mediocre, food more like economy, no amenity kit, wash rooms lacked colognes and other amenities, but clean. Interior of plane showing signs of wear and tear, but everything worked. Transit to domestic BLR destination a breeze in same terminal. Domestic flight with AI was new A319 and nice C- Class seats. Hordes of mosquitoes were a nuisance before doors were closed. BLR up to date, best airport facility to date in India. Economy seats in the 777 looked a bit tight, but modern IFE system to compensate. Movie selection limited and some outdated.
