SVO-PEK-HND and HND-PEK-FRA. The flight was late from Moscow so in Beijing I was rebooked on a
flight to NRT instead. FA didn't speak english, wine was served in paper cups and the food was
terrible. The return ticket was about 120 euros cheaper than with BA and going to Haneda is
much more convenient than going to Narita. Since I missed my connecting flight to HND I ended
up at NRT anyhow. I wouldn't recommend Air China.

PEK-JMU on-time. Although leg room was alright, the old B737-300 should be replaced, too
disturbing noise. Staff didn't speak English. Meal was the worst I had tried - please avoid
Air China western style meals - really disgusting.

SFO-PEK and PEK-DEL. SFO_PEK upper deck on 747 had lie flight seats and decent entertainment
if you like Chinese operas and movies. Rest of the flight was appalling - cabin crew
unsmiling and unfriendly, cabin dirty, meals ordered were missing items listed on the menu.
PEK-DEL much better - nice First Class lounge at PEK (Star Gold perk) with excellent food
though the service ends at 7-30 pm for some unfathomable reason. B767 was a cradle seat,
comfortable, the food was good and while there was no IFE, I knew this beforehand. Extremely
courteous and friendly cabin crew with good English and up to the standards of the best Asian
airlines There is hope for Air China if these crew stay and provide role models for future
crew. Until then 3 stars is just right.

Heathrow-Beijing-Shanghai-Chengdu-Xi'an-Beijing-Heathrow. Six comfortable flights in all. The
entertainment isn't up to Emirates standard, food is on a par with any other airline I have
flown with. The flight attendants were efficient and leg room good.

Beijing to Guilin. Online check-in didn't work. Called the call center and was told someone
could try to help me on the phone but that person only spoke Chinese. Flight was okay, as was
food. Instead of a movie, overhead screens showed a bunch of movie previews and an odd show
about a woman who grows vegetables on her roof. Arrived on time and luggage was fairly quick.

Hong Kong-Shanghai-Milan first flight on FM was late but we were assured we would get
assistance at the gate in Shanghai - no one was there at 0045 am with the connecting flight
parked next to us. Because in Shanghai we had to recheck in (why was not explained) we lost
the flight and were stranded without any help whatsoever in the middle of the night in PVG.
Next morning Air China refused to put us on another flight to Europe (4 business tickets, I am
Star Alliance Gold) so we had to wait until 0130 am the following morning. This flight
returned to Shanghai after 6 hours due to an engine failure, where at first we had to stay
onboard for almost 2 hours, then 1 hour in the airport and then transported to an appalling
hotel in the outskirts of Shanghai. No explanations were given as to when we would depart.
Eventually we made it to Milan onboard an old A340, dirty, IFE not available in Italian, no
menu with very poor service indeed. Never, never Air China again

Beijing to Lhasa in first on A330, 6hr flight via Chengdu. Definitely the best domestic F I
have experienced. Long haul business seats, international C class food and service - so much
better than US domestic First and incomparable to European flights of similar length.
Impressive approach to Lhasa, along one valley, sharp turn into another valley and down into
the airport.

Singapore-Xiamen return. Check in was smooth and we didn't have to wait long. Outbound flight
attendants helpful but not overly friendly. The cabin was clean and food was hot. They offer
you an option of western or asian food. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the flight
home - I was seated in the back row directly outside the toilet which was dirty and smelt
horrible. For the entire 4 hour flight there was a long line waiting for the toilet, I was
constantly pushed as people were entering and exiting the toilet so really didn't get any
sleep at all on my overnight flight. The movie was in English on the way home, but
unfortunately could not watch it as my headphones were broken. Safety really needs a little
more attention on the Air China flights. The flight attendants take no priority in the
passengers safety.

Melbourne to Beijing was a great experience. Business class service was faultless, food was
hot and delicious, wine (french) was good, and much attention was paid to detail. My only
criticism was that most of the movies were chinese, and the English ones were pretty old.

I have held a CA gold card for more than 3 years now but recently the service has gone
downhill dramatically, consistently late departures (despite doors being closed on time),
cabin crew much less attentive - especially for foreigners on board. PEK-LHR in July using
miles to upgrade to business, the flight was a disaster, poor food, the IFE in my seat did not
work (flight was full so I had to endure 10 hours without it), staff onboard where as good as
could be and very empathetic but terrible flight, then when I collected my luggage it was
damaged badly - which started a huge discussion about compensation. They ignored my mails
until I kept following up, they refused to give me any contact details other than the generic
FFP email, no chance whatsoever for a gold card member to be able to feedback to the
management - it seems they have a strict no bad news policy.

LHR-PEK-PVG-SYD-PEK-LHR. Got to the airport to be told that our routing (PEK-PVG) was not
possible without a transit visa. Since we had booked it on their own website, which said
nothing about this, this seemed a little rich. They finally let us onto the plane (at the
very last moment) as we had a full visa (we were stopping over on the return leg) and could if
necessary use this, however they said our luggage would most likely not make it. In the end,
after collecting and rechecking our luggage at PEK, where a couple of pieces did disappear,
only to be found again after persistent challenge, and in PVG, we were fine and a visa was
issued for free at the airport. Other people were less fortunate. One couple on the same
routing paid £1000 to change their flights and another gave up and went home on a promise that
they could try again next week when the costs to change were less extortionate. Other than
that food was ok, IFE terrible , but better than expected and we were upgraded to Business on
the PVG-SYD sector which was a nice surprise.

Beijing-Taizhou (2 hour flight) Boeing 737-400. Nothing special but worth the money! I like
the hot sandwiches on Chinese airlines wrapped in foil with fake ham. You should have a bit of
a sense of humour when flying Chinese airlines, but safety standards are high on Air China.
Cabin crew friendly and could speak some English.

Hiroshima to Beijing via Dalian, and back. Boeing 737 showed obvious signs of age. There was
no in-flight entertainment, but service between Hiroshima and Dalian was quite good. Between
Dalian and Beijing, the flight became a domestic flight, and was full. The inflight service
suffered somewhat as a result. The situation was the same on the way back, with the ancient
B737, but we were given breakfast on the 1 hour Beijing-Dalian leg and dinner on the 2 hour
Dalian-Hiroshima leg. There were some quaint touches. The tissue hand towel I was given had
the English name, 'Min Kang wet turban', and the announced arrival time in Hiroshima was two
hours early. The flight attendants tried hard with English, but it was a losing battle.
Business Class seats were not so comfortable.

SIN-XMN-SIN. Flew CA because it was on a special promotional price. Flight from SIN was on
time, legroom and food was okay, flight attendants attentive but spoken English was poor. No
personal television on both flights. Flight from XMN was delayed, but it was due to the fault
of the airport rather than the airline. Overall was an average airline for the price we paid,
and value for money on that route.

Changsha-Beijing. Flight delayed 4.5 hrs without any explanation just told "late arrival of
aircraft". Only bottled water served during the delay. Inflight service was bad.
