A very pleasant, open, spacious terminal with clean and comfy facilities. Although staff were helpful and nice,
passport control took a very long time both in and out, due to individual entry of each passport info into
computer, and a single officer for all the passengers. Land and airside stores are plentiful and carry
everything you may want to buy, especially souvenir-wise.

A small airport where you could clear the immigration and collect your luggage within 30 mins. It is a bright and
clean airport and definitely easy to move around. On my departure day, they had system problems on their
computer. As a result, the check-in counters were open 1 hr before departure time. However, after getting my
boarding pass, I took 10 mins to clear the security check point and the immigration process. The airport's staff
were helpful and smiling. This is the attitude that should be learnt by most of the airports staff in Europe, Middle
East and Australia.

Tirana seems to have been recently refurbished. Arrival was hassle free, with only short
queues for passport control, and suitcases available for collection afterwards. Money exchange
was painless, and a reasonable rate given. On leaving two weeks later, check in was a bit
slow. Queues for security minimal, and security staff were pleasant, and spoke good English.
Once airside, there was a good range of shops and eating places, with affordable prices. Staff
pleasant and helpful. I only had a limited amount of currency left, and the person serving at
a cafe patiently explained what I could afford to eat and drink. The food choice was excellent
and well presented.

Although fairly new, the main hall is already being expanded by about 25%. Customs is a breeze
and the 10 euro 'admission fee' was scrapped in spring 2009 so there are no more fees at all.
Usually by the time you're stamped through the bags are already on the belt. There's a new
tourism information centre in arrivals now, with advice, free city guidebooks and maps. The
bus to the main square departs every hour, otherwise take the official fixed-price taxis. The
bookshop in the main hall is pretty well-stocked (with only sister shop Adrion in the centre
offering a similar range), so take advantage of it while you're at TIA.

Pleasant, modern airport. Passport control was without the queues warned about in the guide
books. There's a ATM right afterwards. The taxi touts are easily brushed off, and there's a
taxi rank outside of official yellow cabs which charge a set fee advertised in the window (25
euros if I remember correctly).

The new airport is modern, functional and efficient. On arrival, passport control was quick and very
friendly. (Beware the €10 arrival tax, payable in cash only). Public transport is limited to an
hourly bus into Tirana (250 lek/€2); otherwise you must take a taxi (€15-20). Taxi touts a slight
annoyance, but in a good-natured way and not nearly as bad as at many other airports worldwide. On
departure, both check-in and security were smooth and over in a matter of minutes. Airside is airy
and spacious, with plenty of seating for the number of passengers using the airport. The range of
shops is small and predictable - a couple of overpriced "luxury" stores, a tax-free store, a news-
stand stocking two-day-old foreign newspapers and an uninspiring cafe. ATMs in arrivals and
departures areas - the one in the departures area dispenses euros as well as local currency. Overall
a very pleasant airport.

The new terminal is more spacious and pleasant than the old one. There was a nice small play area
for the kids as well. The new space alone made the stay at the counters and security more pleasant.
Passport control is still relatively short.

Recently modernised, but still tiny and eccentric. A 10 Euro fee has to be paid in
cash on arrival and departure. Passport control is slow, whilst details are recorded on a computer
(so much for machine-readable passports). Taxi drivers and others seem to be allowed to pester
passengers whilst waiting for luggage to arrive. My luggage was lost (thanks to an over-tight
connection at Vienna Airport), but the Tirana airport staff were very helpful in the circumstances (and my
luggage arrived the following day). The airport has been renamed "Mother Teresa International
Airport" after the country's most famous daughter.
