Sharm is a typical 'Holiday resort' airport. Nothing fancy or flash. Plenty of seating and a few rather tacky
souvenir shops. Bussed to waiting planes only a couple of hundred yards away. One man making all the
tannoy announcements in broken English, but very polite. Worst thing is that at one end of the waiting area
is a large screened off Smoking area with TV screens and a bar. For some reason there is another unenclosed
area at the other end of the terminal for nicotine addicts. It is foul and the smell permeates way beyond the
designated area. Ideally there should be No Smoking at all, but if there has to be, then one enclosed area is
more than enough!

Arrived from Doncaster to Sharm el Sheikh on 29th March. We arrived about 7pm and the airport was very
clean and we had no trouble with any of the staff. We departed on 12th April and again we were flying late at
8pm, the airport had obviously been busy all day but toilets and other areas were fine and standards were
ok. I would advise you have plenty of Egyptian pounds as they do accept English pounds or Euros but do rip
you off with the exchange rate.

Sharm el Sheikh T1. Arrival at 4.30 am direct from Heathrow. No air bridges, disembarked with old fashioned
steps and then bussed to the terminal several hundred meters away. Newish and smart looking terminal
building. Visa counter on left hand side after escalators but before immigration. Although British tourists
staying for less than 14 days and not travelling outside Sinai do not need a visa, this is only true if flying
directly to and from Sharm. If connecting via Cairo you will need to purchase a visa. Immigration quick and
efficient, but we were the first arrival of the morning. Five luggage carousels, the info screen with flight
numbers on number 4 didn't work - this was the one our luggage appeared on. Luggage arrived pretty quickly.
Outward journey, early morning departure for Cairo, even though it was just 5am queues built up quickly for
security prior to check in. Check-in would have been quick, other than the fact I hadn't purchased a visa.
Embarkation a little chaotic as several flights left within about 20 minutes of each other, all using just two
gates.

It is very depressing to see the same comments coming up on this site which indicates changes are not being
made. The airport is pleasant in comparison with the old facilities 10 years ago but the malaise amongst
some staff seems to be ingrained. Toilet facilities are not up to the job and are constantly blocked. The
floors are filthy, on the way out the young lad was pulling out paper towels from the dispenser in an effort to
gain some sort of financial reward. I had a great holiday with good service, the end of my holiday was tainted
by this where I judged it more hygienic not to wash my hands and used my own wet wipe. This is not
acceptable at an international airport.

Arrival not too bad, no signs or help given just uniformed people shouting at you. Going home was a
nightmare! They scan all of your luggage on arrival. No signs around so most of it is guess work as there is
no one to ask. The ladies toilets were filthy, blocked, no soap and taps hanging of the walls. Duty Free is
another joke, we tried to get in and were shouted at that we could not take our bags in. Most of the shelves
were empty and there are loads of staff milling around doing nothing. The departure gates are a nightmare,
none of them display the correct information. A lovely building that is staffed by rude inefficient staff so keep
your wits about you!

I was impressed with the service we got a Sharm airport Terminal 2. Although I was travelling
with an injured son to and from Sharm the staff were helpful and arranged things quickly and
efficiently. I agree with the comments of others the standard of hygiene in the toilet
facilities is horrendous. That aside I would use the airport again as the staff were so nice
and friendly I'll just make sure I don't use the facilities again.

The ladies toilets were really disgusting. Every toilet was blocked, and the smell was awful.
The soap dispenser was ripped off the wall. Furthermore there was no soap. The perfect
situation for gastro-enteritis. My granddaughter travelled through the same airport a few
weeks previously, they had a delay of seven hours, and she had the same problem, even worse
for her having to make more use of it due to the delay. So it appears that this is usual.
Considering that this airport is modern there is no excuse for such filthy conditions. I did
observe a 'cleaning' woman with a mop bucket nearby she was just seated and doing nothing.

Flew into terminal 1, and out of terminal 2. On arrival we were slightly delayed getting a
stand but once off the plane we were through customs in minutes and our bags had arrived
within 20 minutes of getting to the carousel. The airport was clean and staff polite. On the
way back it took around 40 minutes from arrival to sitting in the departure lounge with a
glass of wine. The airport is quite modern and clean and there were plenty of places to get
food and drink and plenty of seating. The toilets do let them down. Delays at Manchester for
immigration and baggage are much worse.

Was lucky in that I flew from Cairo to Sharm business class so no queues for the visa desk or
wait on carousel as we just had carry on bags for weekend. However the return check in was a
joke - we had electronic tickets and as such you only need to show your passport - not here or
in Cairo however as they insist on paper confirmation. After a suitable crazy exchange with
security guard he allowed us through and check in fine. Was given voucher for business lounge
which was in fact seats in a separate part of seating area of departure lounge and food drink
from common cafe counter who refused to give 3 of us free drink and food to us as they say
only one voucher so only one of each even though voucher said 3 persons on it. You have same
visa problems in any Egyptian airport when entering country - no system exists. Thursday night
is worst as it starts local weekend and all locals go home early and don't work late.

A word of advice. don't arrive on a thursday evening as this place descends into utter chaos.
We arrived at the same time as around 10 other flights landed. We went to the visa desk & then
tried to negotiate passport control. The place was just heaving with people not instructed on
what to do or where to go. A little taped barrier was erected to try and stop the utter chaos
that was happening. It took 2 hours to get through this mess. There was no baggage belt
displayed for my flight so spent another 30 mins looking for my luggage. Coming back was not
so bad. We nearly missed our flight as the gate we were supposed to leave from did not display
our flight. Eventually we heard people shouting our flight then eventually announced it
through the tannoy.

Always found the airport staff friendly and quite efficient. If you need a visa have $15
dollars US with you as the exchange rates offered fo £sterling and Euros are not competitive.
Remember to buy your duty free here as Egyptian spirits and wine are to put it mildly not the
best. Arrange onward transport or you will be ripped off. 150-250 le should get you a taxi to
Dahab and no more than 40-50le anywhere in Sharm El Sheikh. As with travel anywhere know what
you are doing and look as though you know what you are doing.

Always get transfers arranged, on arrival with two or three dozen taxi's outside trying to
arrange a trip of 8 km fights broke out between cabbies] fighting to get the fare, charging
between 100EL and 400EL - about £13- £45 for this short trip. Even the local buses try to rip
you off, and every one expects to be tipped heavily.

If ever the term 'Hell on Earth' was a fitting appellation for an airport lounge it should
surely be most aptly applied to Sharm el Sheikh Egypt. The queues for the check in desks
seemed to be endless and hardly moved. We timed our wait at just two minutes under one and a
half hours and this on a Sunday night at 10 pm. Then there was the charade of security, which
the Egyptians approached with their usual laid back, casual manner. The men at the scanners
barely glanced at the screens which meant that bottled water was waved through as were cans of
beer. The body scanners were constantly bleeping due in my case to a brass buckled belt and
in my wife's to a metal knee plate. This seemed to cause the operators much amusement as they
again waved us through with a charming smile; all this before the unsavory toilets and
departure lounge. After a brilliant holiday at a five star hotel this shock to the system
decided us never to face this degrading experience ever again.

Our first experience and one not to be repeated. We arrived at 3am and for a flight of 240
people there was one person on passport control, despite others just hanging around. It took
for ever to get through. Return much worse. No info as to where to check in, boards were out
of date, we were told to join one queue which turned out to be wrong. It was total chaos
despite staff hanging around everywhere doing nothing. Surprised that we didn't get asked re
liquids etc and we all took water etc through. No-one picked up on it. The endless queuing was
a farce and there was no-one supervising anything. Departure lounge looked like a scene from a
horror movie with people covering every inch of the floor space. All departure boards were
wrong and we had to rely on occasional announcements that were in very poor English and other
passengers to find out what was boarding where. The toilets were more than disgusting. Its a
shame but I cant see myself ever wishing to visit Sharm again.T he authorities need to sort
this out and soon.

Total chaos from the moment we entered departures. No indication as to which check in desk to
use and people slipping up on spilt water. The queues at each desk were at least 50 deep.
Toilets disgusting. No one person seemed to want to take charge, and more worryingly our
luggage was not weighed or searched as we boarded the plane 10 mins after handing it over.

The lines for passport control and in and out much better than I have experienced in the past.
However the shops and catering are appalling. the shops have no or little prices on them. The
best bit is that everything is priced in US dollars. What's that about other than to rip you
off as no flights go from Sharm to the US. It is profiteering of the worse kind and the
Egyptians need to sort that out. Often people take the first and last impressions of a country
as their binding memory, being well and truly ripped off is what they will remember.

Travelled on the dreaded "mad Thursday" but it was quick and efficient. Arrived and there was
a queue just prior to getting into the terminal building but went straight to the queue for no
visa (Sinai Only) then went straight through Passport Control. Waited about 10 minutes for
suitcases to start and arrive. All in all about 30 minutes to leave the building. On return
journey, a slight queue whilst going through detectors (with suitcase as well as hand
luggage0. No queue to obtain flight ticket and leave suitcase. No queue through passport
control although it took around 10 minutes to get through security. Word of advice, Sham
airport has also adopted the no liquids in hand luggage policy. Only problem we did encounter
was the information monitors showed our flight had departed when it had not boarded and
panicked us slightly. A pleasant experience and a lot less hassle and kiosk than other
airports have travelled from. Staff very keen to keep everyone moving to keep things moving
quickly.

Just returned from Sharm El Shekh and experienced no problems at all. I think this might be
due to arriving/leaving on a Wednesday. Thursday seems to be worse day. Too many flights
arriving/leaving at the same time. We were through passport control within 5mins. Be
prepared when you arrive tho' - you're greeted by a man in a mask/white gloves etc asking you
to complete an H1N1 flu Form, declaring you have no known symptoms. Otherwise, no problems at all.

I wrote about this airport in February 2008. It was bad then and it still has not improved. I
travelled from Newcastle on a Thursday with Thomsons and I suspect a previous contributor was
right when he called it 'crazy'Thursday. The Newcastle flight was fortunate in being the
second to arrive but with 30 minutes some 6 or 7 other planes landed and everyone behind us
was snared at the visa desk and it was bedlam. I have never seen a scene like it in my life.
I understand some people stood for 2 hours or more waiting for the entry visa. Fortunately we
went on a cruise and came home from Ebiza airport a much more civilised experience. Sharm is
a shocker so be warned.

We have travelled to Egypt now for 7 years and have noticed a gradual improvement every year.
The most important thing at Sharm is on departure be aware of what time your flight departs
and be aware that flight calls are not always made clearly and gate info is not always
displayed accurately on the screens. Go through in departures at least 3/4 hour before
departure and keep an eye on whats going on.

Having just missed a check in with Easyjet, one of the airport officials kindly managed to get us on
a flight with another passenger carrier one hour later to London. He also helped to carry my bags.
He was so courteous and polite and a credit to the organisation.

Very nice airport, but ladies toilets look like they have not been cleaned since the building was
opened! Not the best memory of my holiday - due to the fact that our departure was delayed six hours
you had no option but to use them. The men on plane said that the gents was just as bad.

Arrived and return to LGW via this airport (Terminal 2). Was pleasantly surprised - arrival was an
example of efficiency and speed, visas dealt with quickly, bags arrived equally fast. Customs check
on exit was hardly noticeable. Perhaps this speed was assisted by the fact that we were the only
flight arriving at 10 pm on a Saturday night. Check-in on departure was fast although they were
trying every method possible to find charges for excess baggage. Short queues to get airside, plenty
of space, sufficient so that one could get away from the smokers. Duty free prices are in US Dollars
and not really worth the cost or effort - stock up on the way out. Only complaint - water airside
costs 24 times that landside and they work the "I have no change" fiddle extremely well with a
polished "take it or leave it" attitude.
