To describe this airport as small is to use too large a word. Situated on the plains below the
town, the airport shows many signs of its previous (and partly current) military usage. The
terminal is about 80 metres long (arrivals and departures) although when the current expansion
programme is complete, it will be at least 100 metres long. Landside there is one toilet (I
mean one, not one male and one female) and the same applies to airside (one). Check-in is easy
with few queues and is a casual process. There is a small bar and shop selling things you did
not know you needed plus a wide selection of overseas papers. 5 car hire desks (one for each
passenger perhaps) and ample parking. Airside, there are insufficient seats for more than 30
people but a casual relaxed attitude makes waiting bearable. AirCon exists and is used when it
gets hot (a nice touch missing in larger airports). There is a bar airside but no duty free.
Most passengers walk to their planes. If you do not expect too much, this is a perfectly
reasonable rural airport where patience produces enjoyment. If driving to the airport, take a
good map or satnav because the road signs point in the opposite direction at a number of
junctions and the airport entrance is well hidden - even when you are actually at it!
