I have used this airport over several years it being very close to where I live. When I used this airport last
month it was a Sunday morning and not too many passengers but we still had to walk up and down the
snake queue to security which was empty surely this could be shortened when the airport are aware that they
are not busy. May seem petty but if you have any walking disabilities it does seem like a wasted effort. On
buying my newspapers and magazines the new rule is to provide your boarding card even to purchase the
smallest item. A lot of customers were highly annoyed at this and the poor salesperson had to deal with all
complaints. I myself had to struggle with magazines hand luggage, purse and then produce boarding card
which I had by then safely put into my bag. I can see the point, if buying from duty free but not from even a
packet of mints. Another complaint I have is when checking in I have been asked to produce my hand luggage
which always is the correct allocation but note on taking my seat on the aircraft passengers come on with
two or three bags or cases, some of which are in excess of size advised. How do they get away with this?

Flew out of Newcastle on 25th July 2012 to Larnaca on Thomas Cook. Check-in was fast as we were about the
first passengers there. Departure lounge has been spoiled with the high chairs blocking the view from the
window. When boarding the aircraft at 8.20 I had my phone out at the gate saying goodbye to friends and
family, I had just gone outside to get the bus to the aircraft which was at the other side of the airfield and I
was told to switch my phone of while there must of been about 10 girls behind us all with their mobile
phones out, yet nothing was said to them!

First of 3 departure airports on a flight to Australia. My wife and I usually fly Emirates but decided to try
other airlines and found this to be a good decision. On our return into Newcastle it was refreshingly quick
with a much reduced waiting time at Immigration and baggage collection. The airport has good connections
into/out of Paris and Amsterdam. Good, clean environment with minimum queues at security made for a good
start to our journey.

Clean small to medium sized airport. Good accessibility by road and public transport (own rail station). Short
taxi times. Normally short transfer times inside the terminal but long queues on passport control when the
daily Emirates services from Dubai arrives. Had problems with self check-in machines - staff was willing to
help but finally had to check in at the desk. Wide range of shops and cafes/restaurants in regard to the size
of the airport. Departure Hall is light, comfortable and clean. Short walk to car rental.

Much improved since my last visit. Dining clear of dirty crockery/glasses etc. Very quick through security which is
now much more stress free than before. As previously mentioned, apart from catering or shop assistants there is never
any sight of airport staff once airside.

Last flew out to Boston via CDG in September. What we really like about NCL is how relatively short time you
require to check in especially with KLM/Air France, which was pretty useful this time as my wife was finishing
her night shift at 9am and our flight was at 11.50am. Following check in with an infant and infant travel
system we still had time for breakfast and tea at Starbucks on the check in side. Security checks with the
new extension building has improved and staff are friendly (especially with travelling with an infant). Arrival
via Amsterdam was pretty much straightforward and painless. We now recommend this airport to friends and
family visiting from overseas to avoid Heathrow but obviously some restriction as not all international airlines
serve this airport. Would be nice to have a spectator's area with a cafe for people living in Newcastle!

I agree with the earlier comment on dirty tables in food areas. Every time I visit the airport I have to clear
away dirty crockery from public areas. The most frustrating event at the airport is watching the countdown on
the flight information screens go down to a 3 minute wait and then remain at that figure with no updates.
Management at the airport really need to attend to this matter in order that waiting passengers are kept
more informed of delays. Once airside there is never any airport staff available to ask about delays or indeed
any other concern that anyone may have. On a positive note queuing time at security has improved beyond
measure.

The facilities seem excellent. It was not busy when I travelled so there was no queuing. I have never seen an
airport lounge so filthy. So much rubbish, discarded fast food containers, empty cans, newspapers strewn
everywhere. Filthy tables in the restaurant area etc.

Whilst Newcastle Airport is very convenient for us for travel I would really like to visit with my granddaughter
to watch the planes take off and land. There used to be a lovely spectator area but now there is none. I am
sure such a provision would be very welcome, especially with a little cafe to enjoy some refreshment. This
would bring in extra funds for the airport too. Whilst it is very acceptable for travel it is not at all people
friendly for visits as are other airports around the country.

We chose to travel to America via CDG so that customs and immigration would be at Newcastle, so avoiding
the long queues at Heathrow which we have experienced previously, and which now are apparently even
worse. We turned up at 4.00am to find everything - bars, shops, restaurants - open and ready for business,
something CDG could learn. Security was a breeze, and the staff were pleasant and helpful. Similarly on our
return, we were through customs and immigration in just a few minutes, the staff making a pleasant change
from the surly officers we have encountered at other British airports. We find Newcastle just great - now if
only they would abandon that £1 per car drop-off charge.

The queues for security are a joke due to unused x ray machines. It is normal to wait up to 1 hour for bags
when landing at Newcastle and there is never any staff around when needed. I recently flew in from Schipol,
the bags took 55 minutes to arrive and there wasn't 1 member of staff in the baggage hall. My record so far
is 1 hour 20 minutes waiting for my bags to be offloaded from a Tenerife flight.

Quick check-in and there's never too long a wait at security. There's a good choice of shops and places to eat
in the terminal and plenty of seating areas. Arrivals however, is another story. Immigration always takes an
eternity - this has always been the case and is yet to be addressed by the airport. Usually don't have to wait
too long for baggage. Plenty of ground transport options which are all clearly sign-posted. Great airport,
which would be even better if they improved immigration queues!

Not a bad place but a few easy improvements could be made. Firstly, finding the departure gates is rather hard, go
out through the duty free, a bit less obvious. Not clearly signed from near security as it should be for
latecomers. Many departure screens are hung high on the glass window wall - and hard to see against the light. Turn
them around so that they face up or down the departure hall. The walk to the Metro is well signed, but there are
only machines there, ones that only take coins for Metro tickets. As airline passengers minimise metal objects, you
may have a problem with change on arrival. Plenty of space for the number of flights, reasonable facilities and a
view of the airfield, so there are many worse places.

Getting through security is still a hit and miss afair with long queues often made worse by unused channels/XRay
machines. The airport management need to do something about the accosting of passengers who, having just cleared
security, are pounced upon by persons trying to get them to sign up to credit card contracts. This is very
annoying. Apart from these points and general over-pricing of food and beverages, the airport continues to improve.

Why after being bussed do you still have to walk up a horrible old flight of stairs from tarmac to building, even old
people with sticks. Why are there no walkways to all planes? Why busses and steps, very old fashioned and not
suitable for elderly.

A great little airport in many respects, except for passenger safety, specifically the
electronic security doors when exiting baggage reclaim area. 6 Weeks ago my wife and I were
returning from holiday, and as we exited, the electronic security door slammed into my wife
severely bruising her down one side of her body. The response of the airport has been lack
lustre. No reply (other than acknowledgement) received to a letter sent 6 weeks ago. One can
only conclude the airport management are happy that the occasional innocent passenger sustains
serious injuries in the pursuit of security.

The plane landed on time and then it took 1hr 20 mins from leaving the plane to get to my car
parked in the airport car park. This was due to a very slow and inefficient immigration service
and because so many people couldn't get through the baggage conveyor was full and not putting
anymore baggage on. Last time we went we also had to queue for ages to get through immigration.

A sad little airport that has so much potential but is being badly neglected due to a lack of
attention. Starbucks had ran out of skimmed milk - at 10 o'clock in the morning! Security was
easy and no problems. Inside the departure area it was a mess, tables left uncleared and
showed signs of having been that way for some time, litter strewn on the floor and under
seats. The gents toilet was acceptable. Then it was time to find our gate, finally after some
difficulty we realised that we had to walk through a shop to get there. Gate 3 was eventually
found along a dark corridor. Inside the Gate 3 things were generally the same. My wife sat
down and almost immediately fell over backwards as the seat was very loose on the attachment
rail. Some lights were either off or not working and at least two (flourescent) lights were
flickering.

It used to be one of the best airports but sadly not now. Drop off is a joke - management
took a system that worked well and after at least four attempts to screw it up gave up and
just stopped people dropping off/picking up at the terminal by fleecing them. Inside, every
other airport lets you know the gate in advance - not here - you have to physically walk
through a shop (having already been accosted by credit card sellers) to get access to the main
shopping/waiting area and you are kept there in the hope you spend money until they finally
let you go to the gate just before departure. Staff are pretty good but the whole experience
is tainted by the apparent overall aim to extract as much revenue as they can from passengers.

My local airport and I'm glad it is. Staff always friendly and helpful. Terminals clean and
plenty of shops and things to keep you occupied in departures. Plenty of seating areas and
lots of natural light make the whole experience great. Gate areas not always suitable, 180
people crowded into a corridor due to a severe lack of seating at the gate. Arrivals usually
quick if domestic, sometimes can be an eternity if international and you arrive with the
Emirates flight. Overall a fantastic regional airport.

Newcastle International is easy to maneuver as it's small, but one big irritating thing I hate
is their inefficient system of not listing the gate until the very last second! What gives
with this sort of mentality? Someone ought to observe that there are many people who are
anxiously awaiting to know which gate they need to get to. It does no good for the uncaring
officials to tell people to just wait in the departures lounge for their gate to be shown on
the screen. It's pretty obvious that the gate is already known by the airline so why keep it
a secret from the passengers until the last minute? It would be best to just list it right
off like at other airports (although stupid LHR has the same stupid procedure too) so that
there aren't mobs of anxious passengers rushing to make their flights. Other than this issue
NCL is a fine airport.

Recent return flight to Geneva during snowy period. Huge queues in drop off car park meant
there was no way we could be dropped off within the first free 5 minutes and were charged a
pound for going over. There are signs plastered everywhere saying "20 minutes parking for just
£1"; "Just 20 minutes parking for £1" would be more appropriate. Other than ludicrous drop off
charges, a good experience. Bags on return journey made it to carousel before we made it from
the plane.

Travel out of Newcastle at least once or twice a month, on KLM to the Netherlands. Departure
wise the airport is fine, checking in and security never takes longer than 10-15 minutes and
staff are mostly friendly and helpful. Facilities are passable, but wouldn't like to be stuck
there for more than a few hours. However, if you're arriving it's a different story - have
been stuck on the plane numerous times as we waited for a walkway or stairs. You'd think they
didn't know we were coming. Also, there always seem to be long queues at immigration - I know
we live in days of heightened security but I never have a problem at Schiphol which always
seems to have the same number of officials on duty as NCL. Baggage reclaim is just as bad,
always seems to be a long wait and don't even think about the words 'priority baggage'. All in
all would be a pleasant airport to use if they could sort out the arrivals problems.

I use Newcastle frequently to travel around on business. It's really come on in the past few
years, and newly built section of the main departure lounge is great, clean and open, with
wonderful views of the runway etc. As many have commented, and I can second, the toilets are
a very hit and miss (often dirty/out of toilet roll/out of order) and this clearly needs to be
addressed. The gate areas are probably next for a face lift, and the wooden stairs and dirty
carpets really need to be scrapped! All in all, it rarely takes longer than 10 minutes to get
through security and being a small airport it's easy to get everywhere. There's enough
shopping/restaurants/bars to keep you entertained for around two hours, but not much more!

Check-in was easy and security search was thorough yet polite. A couple of decent restaurants
in the departure lounge as well as all the necessary outlets (duty free, drugstore,
newsagency). Flight info screens updating every minute. Toilets a little scruffy, but
bearable. The gate corridors would also benefit from moving walkways.

Travel through Newcastle International regularly and staff are pleasant and helpful, facilities are
clean and the ground handlers tend not to lose your luggage, or leave you hanging around for ever
waiting for it to be unloaded. The only two criticism I can level at the airport are the processing
through security can take an eternity (why only have two of the screens open when the queue is out
of the door?) and that the Immigration officials need to process the arrivals more quickly (hit the
arrivals hall at the same time as the passengers from the Emirates flight and you're in for a wait
and a half).

The free parking time for 'drop offs' at Newcastle Airport has recently been cut to five minutes,
with the congestion in this area at peak times, it is almost impossible to drop off passengers
within the new limit, and therefore penalty charges will be incurred ! Another 'tax' for passengers
using this airport.

8 April 2008 Customer Rating :
I fly 6-12 times a year to Newcastle to visit family, and am as frustrated at others at the blatant
profiteering in the short term car park. We have noticed many cars hovering outside the airport, on
the roundabout, and in other places off-road - clearly waiting till flights land, but obstructive to
other vehicles and an accident waiting to happen. But who can blame them for refusing to be fleeced?
We have come to an arrangement now where I take the Metro to Kingston Park, where there is a large
car park where my family can wait for free to pick me up. It is expensive - £2.10 for three stops -
but it makes a gesture against the airport authority's exploitative pricing tactics.

I fly though Newcastle airport on a weekly basis and the way they process passengers at security is
at least 5 years out of date. Nearly all airports these days have a long table leading up to the
scanner, to allow at least 4 or 5 passengers to prepare at the same time. Not at Newcastle, where
there is only a very short table, so that yo can only start to prepare when you are at the front of
the queues, therefore holding up everyone behind you. Very frustrating!

6 March 2008 Customer Rating :
On 3 March 2008 my son and I returned to Newcastle from Tenerife. On our arrival at baggage
collection, the carousel had not started. We waited, and waited, and waited. We had landed at 2020
but after an hour there was still no activity. Nobody was available to ask the reason for this long
delay. Then the closed sign was displayed on the monitor above the carousel. Eventually a young
man came but all he was able to say was that there was "a meeting to try to get estimates" which was
no answer at all to our need for a reason. Passengers, some of whom had young children, were
beginning to become irate (understandably after the flight). Many of us had arranged to be
collected by family or friends who had to pay for parking. I asked for a form to complete so that I
could leave and have my luggage delivered to my home address but this was not given. One man did
manage to do this but said that he was told not to tell the other passengers. We did eventually get
our luggage (mine arrived at 2150) but I would like to know why, if there was a problem, we were not
told immediately on arrival. Why were we left waiting and tired and angry?

In response to Adam's comments. Yes, all well and good IF you live near a Metro station. I live in

profiteering.

Some tips I think to people who harp on about the drop off zone, parking charges etc etc.
There are several ways in which you can avoid this if necessary. First of all the Metro rapid
transit system if you live on the network, I have used this very successfully to get to the
airport from both the city centre and East Boldon station
near Sunderland. It brings you right to the airports own station. Also there is a fantastic off airport
carpark Q Park which is cheaper than the longterm on site. Its run
efficiently and friendly and the courtesy bus drops you off in their own designated
spot in the short term carpark avoiding the standard drop off zone. There are no queues here
and its just a short walk to the terminal from here. The main longterm car park is good
too and there are lots of ways of booking this online to obtain substantial discounts on the gate
price. Its still far better than Heathrow! All airports are not perfect and in this day and age of
increased security and increased volumes of traffic, you can expect to encounter problems now and again.

The parking goes from bad to disgusting. There are no charges displayed
until you reach a barrier so how on earth are you meant to know what
constitutes "short stay", "drop off", "long stay" or whatever they have
changed it to this week. The only consistent aspect of this hell hole
is scamming its unfortunate customers more every day. Cars now park on
the roads around the airport causing more congestion. The downstairs
lounge stinks. The flight info screen has been out of order for months.
Every week the 17.50 Sunday Gatwick flight disappears from the board.
There is no way for me to know whether my son's flight has taken off.
A vile experience. Avoid.

Poor airport. Slow to bring steps to meet the plane; 45 minute queue to
get through Passport Control and our bags had still not arrived. Then
chaos at the drop/pick-up zone as mini-buses blocked access for other

Leeds-Bradford, one to avoid.

Newcastle Airport, more like Newcastle car park! Its disgusting the
rates charged to park here, short or long stay. The drop off zone which
allows you ten minutes grace before you begin paying the rates has just
been shrunk. So no you pass though the barrier and wait in a queue for
sometimes over ten minutes before you are able to get to the curb side
and drop off, hence you are then charged - well done Newcastle Airport,
you truly are international.

I fly from Newcastle regularly (mostly to Milan, Brussels and London).
Never had a problem. the Metro connection is just perfect and if you
need to be in the "toon", it will take you only 20 minutes and 2 quid.
The bars are decent, albeit a bit overpriced, and the departure lounge
is alright. As airports go, this is not a bad one. The only issue is
obviously the outrageous drop-off charge. A real rip-off!

19 February 2007
I quite like Newcastle airport, even though there is no viewing area
until you get to the departure gate. It is at least reasonably
ventilated. There is a well-stocked chemist although food is a problem
because it is unhealthy and expensive. Anyone who wants a plain cheese
roll/sandwich without industrial mayonnaise or antisocial onions is out
of luck. The usual dank offerings are on sale. Everything is grossly
overpriced. The croissants are quite nice but ludicrously expensive. The
miniature ones are over a pound. Sometimes the selection is not
available because the oven is churning out those tasteless muffins.
There is no proper bookshop, only a Smith’s. The choice of reading
material is not inspiring. Luckily we’ve never been delayed much. At
least there are not a plethora of those boring “shopping opportunities”
selling unnecessary toot. The charge for drop-offs/pickups doesn’t
affect us but I am not impressed by it.

Totally agree with last post to the point I now refuse to fly from this airport. It is very badly
