The approach road and car parking are a disgrace. The short term car park is full of holes and very poorly lit. Bus shelters inadequate in bad weather. Seating in the terminal lounges is inadequate on most days. The queuing for immigration is a nightmare, with a wait of 41 minutes on our last visit. We have seen a number of incidents on our recent visits, where there is a total lack of crowd management. People attempt to jump queues, which causes anger and aggression from others. We witnessed angry passengers pushing straight through the control desks with no attempts made to check passports whatsoever. We have been told that this has happened previously. The general impression of Luton airport is poor and getting poorer.

Dropped a passenger off for a very early flight. The approach road layout is very poor and confusing. Lanes go from two to one without warning and merge at roundabouts. The new exit road from the drop off zone snakes through car parks marked out by plastic temporary barriers and ad-hoc signs. The satisfaction comes just to get out! The whole thing looks amateurish and last minute . Add to this poor or non existent rail connections at high cost and tatty shed like terminal buildings and the impression is not good. I am prepared to pay a premium to just avoid flying from this place.

Good selection of restaurants and cafes in the main terminal building and the departure area. The biggest drawback was the lack of seating in the departure area. Any seating space seemed to be incorporated into a pub or restaurant leaving little in the general sitting area. The security queues in the departure area were quite incredible for such a small airport. Leave yourself ample time to get through this procedure. Obviously airport officials are aware of this problem and you can purchase for 3 a ticket that gets you through security faster.

Like many other reviewers my wife and I have never had an enjoyable experience when either flying out or returning to Luton Airport. Apart from being probably the only airport in the UK to charge passengers to be dropped off, you now find you end up travelling for ever just to get out of the place. Last week we returned to Luton after having a lovely holiday only to be subjected to at least an hour delay in getting through passport control and out of the airport which is not what you want having spent over four hours flying. It would be nice if the airport authorities could actually consider passengers rather than doing whatever they can to cause as much hold-up as possible. Take it from me we will not be using this airport again!

Beware if you've never travelled from Luton you are in for a treat. I'm not sure of the objective from Management but passenger enjoyment is not at the top of the agenda. From the moment you are charged to drop-off and the inevitable queue just to get to the Airport. The whole experience is to charge for everything. Their flight information line is Premium rate. The car parks are in a diabolical state of disrepair with potholes that fill with water and are "fun" at night in the dark. You get the impression that if you as miserable as sin you are guaranteed a job here. I frequently use all London's Airports and this one collects the "Mickey Mouse Award" as every modernisation they conduct just makes the experience even worse.

Dropped my partner off this early this morning, only to find that for the mere privilege of pulling up at the kerb, we had to pay 1. When I got home, I got a text from her to say that she'd had all her cosmetics confiscated at security because she didn't have them in a plastic bag "of the appropriate size". At every other airport I've ever been to, plastic bags are given away free, but at Luton, where wringing every last penny out of travellers is clearly company policy, they will charge you 1 (with, naturally, no facility to change banknotes). Of course, her last pound coin was the one that had been extorted from us at the drop-off point.

From the moment you arrive at this airport you realise that the sole purpose of the owners is to extract as much money from you as possible and in return provide you with a third world level of facilities. Charges are made for dropping passengers off, for collecting them, for plastic bags needed for security and for luggage trollies and if you want priority in the security queue there is a hefty charge for that too. In return you get long walks to gates with plenty of stairs in an almost totally escalator and lift free building and, at an airport where the low cost carriers encourage hand luggage that is a real ordeal. It is a drives who need to be fit to use this airport as they lug their cases up and own and up and down stairs. Still there is plenty of time to recover your breath at the famous Luton Airport passport queue. This is a perfect lesson for architecture students in how not to design an airport and if it was no so close and convenient for me I would not still be using it!

Dropped my wife off at 06.45 today - Wednesday, absolutely no traffic tailbacks and we got straight to the priority drop off area without any delay. A new exit road from the drop off area seems to have eliminated the previous cross-over congestion.

After reading poor reviews, I was a bit nervous travelling from Luton, have always used Stansted and Gatwick. However I found it fine, I travelled on a Wednesday in the afternoon although arrived at Luton about 11am, no problems getting there, traffic was fine, no queues through security, found staff friendly. I can appreciate that getting to Luton at certain times could be a problem, but people should account for this, it is the same wherever you fly from.

I have to use this airport about 8 times a year. It is, without doubt, the worst airport I have been to. I could list many faults with this airport, but the most obvious one is the access to the drop off zone, which in its latest design forces the traffic through a figure of eight. This creates enormous tailbacks, delays and frustration.

Travelled via Luton for first time in 2 years, never again. Traffic at 5.30 am on a Friday morning was queuing back down the dual carriageway. 45 mins to finally get into the drop off zone. People including children, getting out of their vehicles and walking on the hard shoulder. Not only dangerous but illegal. The council and the airport need to get together and sort this out. Check-in okay but security very slow.

Have used Luton 4 times this year at different times of day and week. Same each time with traffic queuing back to the Ibis hotel and huge queues before security. You need to give yourself 3 hrs to hopefully, be in time for your flight. Airport Security experience is met with stony faced officials who appear to enjoy ordering people around. There is usually some sort of incident - I was brusquely ordered to take my hand out my pocket when going through the scanner.

As a regular commuter to Switzerland last year I made the decision to move out of London and back up the A1. Having used Gatwick and Heathrow you have a few gripes, but if only I knew. With Stansted not being available until Ski Season I am faced with Luton for the majority of the year. Every week I fight to get to the airport on time for my flight. Getting to the terminal is dire, the congestion and planning behind the feed into that roundabout is nothing short of mindless. Unfortunately I cannot see how they can now go back. I have not made it to the terminal by transport on a Monday morning for 3 months, always resulting in legging it from a few hundred yards the wrong side of the roundabout. In fact the airport carpark shuttle bus regularly just opens the doors and let's its passengers make the dash - I dread the wetter months coming. Once in the terminal it is quite quick - provided you take the 3 priority security option, which although very quick compared to the alternative is just a wrong concept when taking into account you are only late because of the traffic congestion arriving at the terminal. Arrivals - the immigration is quite often stacked up and the last thing you need. In general I like to think I'm an easy going guy who doesn't grumble too much - but I really hate getting up at 4am on a Monday morning knowing I'm hit or miss as to whether I will get my flight.

Having read recent postings about early morning traffic congestion, I thought we'd be okay with a Sunday lunchtime departure. Wrong. Huge queues of frustrated motorists funnelling into a roundabout where two lanes of traffic merge into one - and meet cars trying to get out of the long stay car park. Finally get to the mid stay car park which turns out to be a patch of waste ground with no labelled bays or numbered bus stops. Fine, if this was offered at rock-bottom prices , but it's not. Far pricier then comparative, well-ordered parking at both Stansted and Gatwick. At the tin shed terminal, long lines of people shuffling around in a seventh circle of hell. Not a great start to any trip, but how will things ever change here? This airport patently finds it almost impossible to cope with increased passenger numbers. I'll not be adding to the congestion in the foreseeable future.

The chaos getting into the airport by road (the only way in reality) is horrendous. If anyone from Luton Airport management bothers to read these comments, this item should be top of the agenda. Whoever devised the "crossover" of traffic entering and leaving the drop-off area, and paying for the privilege. Meanwhile, the spacious area for the odd taxi to wait in, the previous free drop-off area, is just about empty. Another little money grabbing scheme in operation the other week (probably permanent) the escalator to the first floor departure area is now barred to ordinary people - reserved for those paying for fast track.

Traffic on the access road is horrendous early morning. Bus from the station is not an option as it gets caught in the traffic. Using the 30 mins free drop off facility in the car park is not a solution as the bus servicing that gets caught in the traffic. There are people getting out of cars all over the place and walking the final stretch up to the terminal despite the prospect of the 80 fine. The problem is not new. The introduction of the 1 drop off charge by the terminal was being blamed for this chaos in 2009. Surely time to sort out a solution ASAP. Luton could be so convenient for so many people but this chaos is unacceptable.

The queues for security are a joke, all the way to the back wall, down the stairs and into arrivals. There were stacks of bags from people who never made their planes. Management need to wake up and sort it out.

The queues at security when departing were terribly long, which spoilt the experience, at least the queues were well managed. It took so long to go through that process that I didn't have time to do anything else other than go straight to the departure gate. When returning there was only a short wait at border control although it took a while for baggage to arrive. I used public transport to get to and from the airport and it was very convenient to have the bus stands right in front of the terminal.

Luton must be the worse airport in the south of England. The traffic goes from two lanes to one, you then have to pay 1 to drop off passengers. If you are lucky to get the airport then you are faced with long queues for security. The only staff who want to offer any advice are the special assistance staff who seem to have to battle through the crowds to get to their desks. There is nobody to offer any help with delays, you go the special assistance desk, they will try and help but will offer you the use of a phone where nobody from easyjet picks up.

The queue for security took over an hour, why can't the airport management work out what the expected passenger volume will be and accommodate for this.

Luton Airport is a real disaster. The terminal building, a large and now rapidly ageing retail shed are dated and in some places derelict. The whole traffic organisation with the requirement to pay 1 to drop off leads to chaos with mass ranks of passengers dragging bags and children in the pouring rain. It requires proper sustained investment to bring the gates, security and arrivals areas up to even a basic standard.

We will not use Luton airport in future. Last Sunday early morning my wife and I had to vacate our taxi and join others who were forced to drag luggage half a mile up to the terminal. On return to Luton this afternoon we had to wait an unreasonable time for our taxi because of the traffic congestion.

Get to this airport early and be prepared for extremely long queues at this inadequate airport, this goes for departure and arrivals, it took over 2 hrs from landing to exiting the airport. Staff levels need to be doubled at least.

My sister came to collect us from Luton after a recent holiday. Lots of delays through immigration and did not leave the terminal until 1 hr after the flight landed. The traffic was terrible getting in and out of the airport, there is no warden advising people to move on or writing parking tickets. It seems that Luton is quite happy for people to overstay their welcome and pocket the money. She cannot have been the only one receiving a bill for the car park that day, so many passengers were delayed at immigration. I wonder how much money they make out of this little scam.

I am a regular traveller from Luton airport, other London and international airports. Luton is the worst. Security queues have always been very bad at peak times and now road traffic queues are appalling. Once in the terminal the queue for security stretched out of the security hall, down the stairs and into the main concourse. At security my bag was selected for swabbing but due to inadequate supplies/equipment this was delayed another 10 mins. I left security at 6.40, too late for my flight. The Servisair representative who escorted me out of the secure area complained that it took them 55 mins to get from the staff car park to the terminal in the staff bus due to the same traffic problems. Until they can manage the traffic they should reduce the number of flights at peak times.

30 mins by bus from the train station to the airport due to traffic at 5.30am is unacceptable. Having to then pay 3 for a priority security check because of the long bus journey and a massive queue flowing down the stairs just rubs salt into the wound.
