Used Heathrow to fly to Sao Paulo from Terminal 1 in January. Quite a good experience going out. On return, quick queues at Customs but the usual not overly friendly staff. Baggage was waiting when we reached the carousel..

Terrible attitude of staff, flight connections and gate queues were slow. Several flights cancelled due to snow, yet half of the rebooking stands were empty, the other half were for premium passengers only and would turn economy passengers back. Crowded, pricey mall, information screens displaying the gate of your flight barely a few minutes before boarding time.

I hadn't been through T3 for a couple of years and hopefully it'll be at least that long again before I have to endure this terrible terminal. Crowded and congested departures with baggage all over the place producing a security nightmare. Security Screening provisions are totally inadequate for the volume of passengers being processed. The staff are professional and courteous but facilities are a joke. Airside, T3 is basically a shopping mall and if passenger comfort is even on the priority list it's not very far up it. I was able to use the SAS London Lounge and but for that the experience on a Thursday evening would have been terrible. I cannot imagine what a family trip through T3 would be like - not nice from what I could see. Gate Areas are a throwback to the 70's with a Boeing 747 worth of passengers waiting in a lounge sized for a 737. The Best bit is probably Arrivals - monstrous long walk from the Gate, quick through Immigration and bag on the carousel as I got there - escape to the real world. The conditions at T3 will certainly affect which airline I'm prepared to use in future.

Flew via LHR to LAX from ZRH with BA and AA. Arrived early in the morning from Zurich in T5 and took the transfer bus to T3 for my AA flight. It is quite easy to transfer to different terminals and you can just follow the purple flight connection signs. I was lucky enough that the bus to T3 was waiting for me and the ride took about 10 minutes where I arrived at an empty T3 security checkpoint. I was through security in minutes and then only had to queue at the AA counter to get my boarding pass which took around 10 minutes as well. All in all I was in the transit area of T3 in 25minutes incl. the bus ride, getting through security and receiving my boarding pass. The facilities at T3 are not bad and there are enough shops and restaurants to pass the time. Seating is a bit limited tough as there are many flights departing at T3. Also an annoying thing at LHR is that the gate is only assigned around 30-40 minutes before departure time. The hike to the AA gates is quite far as they have their gates at the far end of T3, so be prepared to walk at least 15 minutes to your gate. Returning to LHR from LAX I arrived at T3 and had to walk quite a bit to the transit area to take the bus to T5. I was lucky to get on that bus as there were many people queuing to transit to T5. When I arrived at T5 I was glad that I had my boarding pass for my onward connection as the queue at the BA transfer desk was horrendous. Also after getting your boarding pass you have to pass through a check point with rude BA staff who check your boarding pass again. After that you pass through security which had a few people but I only had to wait in line for five minutes which was fine. After security there were many shops and restaurants to choose from and I could finish some last minute shopping there. An annoying fact of T5 is, that they claim it is a "quiet terminal" but they keep announcing final calls on a loop and it is therefore far from quiet. However I would pass through LHR again as I found the experience rather efficient and good. Also my luggage made it on my flights without any problems even tough I was on different airlines at different terminals.

Intercontinental travelers - If you're flying to Heathrow make sure you use Terminal One. This means Star Alliance. Since the reallocation of terminals, T1 has relatively very few intercontinental flights, which means immigration is a breeze. I've arrived on United 3 times this year and have spent at most 7 minutes in line for (non EU) passport inspection. Compare that with 45 mins at T3. In fact last time the wait for non EU citizens was shorter than EU! Yes it's still a 15 minute walk from the gate to immigration, but once there T1 is a breeze.

Very mixed bag this time with responsibility for the negatives shared amongst various authorities. APIS was not on as we approached Gate 542 and when it came on it broke leading to a ten minute delay for a marshaller. There was no queue to speak of at immigration but I had wanted to use IRIS which was broken. Baggage was delivered quickly nevertheless priority tagging seems to mean nothing to LAX, BA or BAA.

I generally hate using LHR however last Saturday I used T1 taking a very early UA flight and returning early on Thursday morning and I must say everything worked fine. There was no queue at the United check-in and we were through security in under 5 minutes we had an hour to spare and had breakfast at Pret. On arrival the walk from the plane at gate 44 was rather long to immigration but we passed through in under 5 minutes and our bags were waiting on the reclaim belt. Overall the airport facilities are rubbish compared to Singapore and Hong Kong, but I came with a low expectation level and surprised how well our experience was. I will be usuing T3 in a few months time and it will be interesting to compare.

Chicago to Barcelona, transferred from T5 to T3 and found the process more efficient than expected despite late arrival from US. T3 security process was smooth. On the other hand, Madrid back to Chicago, transferred T3 to T5 and found the recheck process in T5 (first through passport control and then through hand baggage security) incredibly inept. Long lines everywhere to proceed to the next long line, process took 90 minutes from the plane landing ("bus gate") to security clearance. Good thing we had a long layover, anything under 2 hrs. too risky.

Terminal 3. A very stressful experience before our 10am flight. Check-in was easy, but the good experience stopped there. Security queues were long and the security area was disorganised, small and took about 40 minutes to clear. Passengers were given commands by staff who were rude. Immediately after the security area is the departure board which caused a huge bottle-neck and could be a potential health and safety risk. There are hardly any places to have a breakfast at terminal 3, aside from the usual coffee shops. One place offered a bacon sandwich for £7 and no where to sit. Starbucks could not cope with the number of people trying to get a drink and snack before their flights and I found the quickest option was to order a tea! Overall a poor experience and quite an embarrassing image of Heathrow for overseas visitors. Cramped, poorly organised and the opposite to relaxing before a flight.

I found Heathrow T4 a breeze for entry and departure. Arrived 6:30am, passport control took about 5 minutes. I had hand baggage only and so was on my way. Took the tube to Mayfair and was at my hotel less than 90 minutes from touchdown. For departure, check-in was quick and easy (Continental). T4 has a good selection of shops, though I did no shopping. I spent my time in the SkyTeam lounge which is large and well-stocked.

Sadly for as many years as I can remember, parts of Heathrow at any given time are a building site. At least this does not for the time being apply to my most frequently used terminal, T5. T2 is all but closed now and Heathrow East (according to BBC News) will be ready in five years time. That seems realistic unlike what I recall as BAA's original assertion that it "would be ready for the Olympics". I cannot imagine what state LHR will be in for our visitors but I suspect it is not going to compete with Beijing. For the time being the now established T5 is pretty wonderful. There are great valet parking options to be had and these are worth considering. The space of the building comfortably consumes the current level of passengers. Security procedures have undoubtedly improved as has the quality of staff.

LHR-CGN with Lufthansa. When arriving at Terminal 1, I realised how quiet it was having not flown there since BA moved to T5. Was a bit annoyed that the Lufthansa check-in (Zone K) was on the other side of the terminal from the Tube, but that was where my annoyance finished. Zone K was quiet, with its own security area, which made it feel like it was fast track (I was flying economy). From bag drop to Departure lounge took 5 minutes! Used Servisair Lounge which was also quite good considering I didn't pay much to use it (good value for money)! Terminal 1 is great to use, much better now BA have left. BAA are certainly trying their best to sort out Heathrow.

Terminal 5. While the domestic-to-international transfer process within the terminal is seamless, I wonder why, for international-to-domestic connections, we have to be security checked again after passport control, as we're already airside. One small quibble, which would measurably save time if fixed. Also, they need more internet stations.

Why is it not possible to check in our luggage on departure until 3 hours before our flight departure time? I thought Terminal 5 was supposed to be world class. It's ridiculous, if they want us to make good use of the shopping facilities - why did they not allow hand baggage trolleys. When we are laden with computers and hand luggage, how are we supposed to shop until we drop? I was told by one staff member that this was because initially they were only going to allow one piece of hand luggage. Does not seem very well thought out for a world class terminal. The natural lighting and space are great, as well as the shopping, but these things detract from the overall departure experience.

Was through Terminal 5 on Sunday morning early - not so busy but connecting still a mess with waiting at every turn then treated like cattle by rude security staff. Complained to a supervisor who I believe answered by telling me their tray system had been designed originally for a much smaller airport. One escalator down to the main level is too little and the shops definitely impede the flow of passengers.

Am I the only person not to like T5? I'd have to say that landside it is excellent. But once airside it's a mess with too many retail outlets. The designer seems to have lost sight of the point that airport terminals are all to do with flow. Instead, because of the system of access from both north and south, you get streams of passengers (and their luggage) all trying to cross one another's path. The whole experience leaves me bad-tempered. I'd rather fly through Gatwick North Terminal.

Terminal 1 Tuesday lunchtime departure, Friday evening return. 15 minutes from landside to airside, quiet and no hassle throughout. Return was different, it took 20 minutes to walk from our gate to passport control. Due to building work, no female toilets were available from the gate to the baggage hall (20 minutes plus however long it takes to get through passport control). Passport control was quick and took 10 minutes and getting out to our parking coach was easy, if a bit of a trek. Overall, not as bad as we had feared but they have quite some distance to go to produce an acceptable airport.

Can't fault T5 every time I've passed through. There's plenty to do, and I don't find the retail so overbearing as it is is at T3! Staff at desks and security have always been pleasant and chatty. All gates easy to get to, but people continue to bleat about missing flights from the B and C gates (long-haul) : it is clearly posted throughout the terminal that you need to allow extra time to get to these satellites as there's a train involved.

Recently used Terminal 1 twice (first time at Heathrow). Having come in from Ireland (pre- cleared), I can't report on the status of Customs/Immigration. The connection to the Underground was convenient and well-signed. Returning, I found very little delay/hassle in security and excellent shops/food options on the "airside". Only potential concern is that my arriving flight and another were both delayed by broken jetways (airbridges). Note to Ireland travellers : once you enter the immediate gate area you cannot re-enter the main part of the terminal, and facilities in that area are quite limited. Overall satisfactory - I would recommend Terminal 1 or use it again.

I have travelled through T1, T2 and T3 over the last 2 years. T1 is lovely, plenty to do and see and security tends to move well. While T2 security usually moves quickly, it's not worth it. T3 was an experience - the security took forever! Thank goodness I always arrive early or I'd have been running for my flight! Inside the departures lounge is truly awful. All designer boutiques and barely any nice food places. Everyone squishes into the one area with seating and the boutiques remain quiet and empty. If I had a choice of T3 or using Gatwick, I'd go Gatwick.

I found terminal 5 to be pretty poor. The long delays at security were unacceptable with not enough machines in use, a good 25 minute wait was required. The transit from T3 to T5 took 10 minutes, the other 40 mins was waiting in line at some desk or security before getting in to the terminal. By far the longest and most dis-satisfying experience of my journey. The toilets I used weren't the cleanest nor were they all operational. Certainly believe that it may be better to avoid Heathrow if at all possible.

T5 to MAN with BA. My biggest question is - why is T5 so inconsistent? It seems to make no difference whether the airport is busy, quiet, or the time of day - the experience is so hit- and-miss. Very quick to clear security - who, on this occasion, were efficient, friendly, made to effort to exchange jokes about my luggage (with good reason!), and one of the staff even said "Have a pleasant flight, sir" - that is the last thing I ever thought I'd ever hear at LHR! The terminal seemed to have a completely different atmosphere, and even though I was on a mid-evening flight, all areas remained clean and tidy. Flight was called in good time, boarded efficiently, and departed on time.

Departing through terminal 4 was a most unpleasant experience. I had to repack my bag at check-in, nearly had my overnight bag rejected in the security queue, and then encountered the Fast Track security, who were the slowest I have seen. My fault entirely - I had moved a bottle of whisky into my overnight bag when sorting out the main bag. However, it was not necessary to keep me waiting for nearly half an hour to resolve this issue (the bottle was duly confiscated) - staff have a job to do, and I was in the wrong, but a little politeness would help.

T5 is light, spacious and less compact than the rest of the terminals. Naturally there is always a 'bottleneck' at security; (isn't there always), but I would appreciate it if the security staff (or some of them) were more polite in their approach and not act as if they were in a marketplace. If anyone gets confused on their first experience on departures or arrivals its natural - new place, new surroundings. Heathrow is an old airport and a busy one; its going to take time to update the other four terminals (especially 2 and 4) and when they do, it'll be great.

I used it twice last week traveling on BMI to and from T1. Now T1 works fine. Everything came fast and trouble free. Security took 5 minutes. Check in areas of BMI are now spacy, and airside, you can get seated at any part of the terminal. Food facilities were good. Cleanliness was also good. When arrived I got my bag within 15 minutes. Immigration was also fast, I saw no line at all. The only minus is that now gates built to serve domestic flights are used for international. So walking from former Aer Lingus gate to international arrivals takes a lot of time and it feels like finding way trough labyrinth.

In the past month I have travelled through Terminal 1, 2 and 5 and each time I have found the experience lacking in terms of hygiene and respect for the individual. Also transferring from T5 to T1 is a nightmare, while T2 should be closed it is not fit for purpose. Photographing of passengers on domestic flights in T1 is intrusive and serves no security purpose. If I could, I would not use it, but have to for business.

Transiting via T5. Terminal very busy on both occasions. Outward leg good, other than the 15 minute delay in take-off due to taxiway congestion. Quick transit, less than 5 minutes from landing to passing through a boarding pass check. The return leg, on the other hand, was diabolical and I believe I have reason to make a formal complaint to BAA (which will probably be ignored). Huge queues everywhere on return, in a packed, stuffy terminal. Pax transiting from international to domestic flights now have to pass through FOUR checkpoints, with multiple boarding pass/passport checks, photo-scanning, and finally X-ray machines (and, in my case, added humiliation as well). But as if all this wasn't stressful enough, after attempting to retrieve my luggage from my tray while empty trays were piling up, a security girl (who was standing around doing nothing while decided it was appropriate to start shouting at me, including asking "Can't you understand English or something?". Clearly I am just a "stupid foreigner" to her, despite the fact that I was returning to the country I was born in! I did not reply or say a word during this time, so I cannot be blamed for inflaming the situation. It's time that staff like this were reminded that travellers, and in particular frequent flyers such as myself, help to pay their wages. But in the meantime, I'm going to avoid LHR as much as possible (fortunately, not difficult) so another hub can have my money from now on. Which is a shame, because the vast majority of staff are good and the facilities and environment are usually excellent.

T5 at LHR was fine for our departure to YVR. Security was fast enough but the processes remain tedious. It is depressing to think that they will go on checking liquids, belts, shoes etc as long as they can get away with it. Valet parking is a wonderful service which is often promoted at a price far lower than you might think. The route to the BA lounge (South) is moronically complicated but once you're there the view of departures is unparalleled.

Used terminal 5 to fly to and from Mauritius. It is a very bright and airy terminal, and there are few if any queues. However, the lines for passport control upon arrival, whilst short, moved very slowly. Also, after landing, we had to hold for several minutes because there was no space to park the aircraft, and this in a brand new terminal!

While T5 may be new, bright and airy, every word written about the rude, surly security staff is true. My husband had forgotten he had picked up a still sealed small bottle of water from the lounge. Of course, this showed on the screen. They then went through every single item in his carry on, searching side panels, scanning cuff links etc. Then told him to repack it, all the while speaking as though we were suspected of terrorism. We were the last people to board our flight and only were able to do so because I had run ahead and explained the situation to the gate agent. They also were patting down scores of people.

Terminal 1, LHR-VIE-LHR. Star alliance check in, moderate queues. Just one check-in open at 7.30 in the morning. After check-in things improved, no delay at security. All outlets busy for breakfasts. Plenty of shopping. Terminal generally a bit aged, seedy in fact. The gate for Austrian Airlines had some seats bunched together, thus preventing some people from sitting down. A most worrying feature, the fire alarm sounded, the recorded announcement said to leave the area immediately. The staff didn't seem to have a clue what to do. After 10 minutes we were evacuated to a "safe area", eventually boarding 30 minutes late. The return to terminal 1 - no delays in immigration, baggage on carousel and out to the coach stop within 20 minutes of leaving the aircraft.

Flew from T4 to JFK and back from Atlanta with Delta. Took a Hoppa Bus from our hotel to the airport, but this only drops you at T3 bus station, so then you have to catch the Heathrow Express to T4. None of this was signposted or explained and eventually we had to ask the Information Desk for directions. Baggage Drop for Delta worked fine and security at 6.30am on a weekend was quiet so we were in the departure lounge within five minutes. T4 undergoing complete renovation so the number of shops and restaurants was pretty limited, but still adequate. On the return our baggage didn't make it on to our flight (not BAA fault), so having waited almost an hour for luggage and then filling out forms, we tried to get the train back to T3 to catch the bus. We just missed the train which would have meant a 30 min wait until the next one and a further wait for the Hoppa Bus, so we just got a taxi which proved to be very expensive back to our hotel. Overall, T4 seemed very inaccessible and long winded / expensive to get to / from, but the facilities inside were fine and they should be even better once the renovations are complete.

Landed at T3 on time from Vienna. Thought everything was going well until we got to immigration. It resembled a cattle pen - took over 35 minutes as UK citizens, to get back into our own country. It was an absolute shambles. By the time we had got through to baggage reclaim we were so late that our flight had been deleted from the screen showing which belt our bags were on. The end effect was that we finally left the long stay car park at 1700 for a six hour journey to West Wales. There has got to be a better way of doing things.

LHR-SIN-LHR. Travelled with Singapore Airlines but used Virgin Atlantic area for check in which was very busy (organised chaos). Queue not too long. Massive queue for security which was relatively fast moving but took around 30 minutes. Pier 6 for A380 flight clean, bright and decent runway views. Very good selection of shops and restaurants in T3. T3 arrivals a disgrace. Immigration queue massive. Immigration hall is shoddy with dirty carpets and harsh lighting. Baggage reclaim area looks awful and normal baggage belt for A380 led to swarms of people waiting for bags.

My experience at T5 was not good. On the outbound journey to Zurich, a long BA delay was compounded by a departure slot not being made available for a full further frustrating hour. Coming back was even worse. Just like my last arrival into T5, we parked somewhere close to Feltham and waited for ages for someone to appear with the steps. Then we crammed into one single bus for the journey to the terminal. That meant that we were 75 minutes in the air and then 35 minutes between landing and getting our luggage. I had just returned from a weekend in Switzerland where everything works properly and it is a culture shock getting back to LHR. BA and BAA should be embarrassed that T5 passengers are being shuttled back into their white elephant of a terminal.

Left on holiday from T1 (UA) and returned into T3 (AC) and LHR did the job. Outbound we were in the lounge ten minutes after getting out of the taxi. Coming back the bags arrived as we did. What more can you want.

Terminal 1 is big, clean, and everything looks "newer" and more modern than terminal 2. Overall, a good experience!

I have recently used T4. I was in the terminal within 5 minutes of parking the car in the long stay car park. The terminal on a Friday afternoon was almost deserted. What a difference from pre T5 days. My return a few days later was just as good. I was in the car and leaving the car park (travelling with hand baggage) within 20 minutes of the aircraft parking at the gate.

I travel every two months to India with BA and arrive and depart from T5. This is always a good experience. The terminal is clear and have a lot of good facilities. Its fast and efficient. I used to travel from T4, but T5 is so much better. I enjoy my time in the terminal.

LHR-WAW-LHR with LOT Polish Airlines, to and from T1. Separate flights during the same week: LHR-MAN-LHR with BA, to and from T5. What a difference - at T1 the queues at check-in and security were always long and stressful, with a struggle to find time to even buy a coffee after security. No longer so! LOT and Lufthansa check-in is now at check-in area, which is away from the main check-in/security area, and has its own passport control and security. As a result, I was checked-in and airside by 0515, an incredible improvement! Staff efficient and friendly. The flight was delayed, but otherwise a surprisingly good and unexpected experience. Unfortunately, it took 20 minutes to get through immigration upon return, but my bag was already on the belt by the time I got to baggage reclaim, which has rarely been the case in the past, even after long queues. T5 check-in and security was also fast, friendly and efficient, despite the terminal looking very busy. The only problem being that North security was closed, so I was redirected to South security, resulting in a long walk to Gate A3, at the opposite end of the terminal. But otherwise, generally a pleasant and stress-free experience.

T1 for transit but without codeshare, that means we had to pass the horrible customs to get our bags and then check-in again. This time the customs is a little bit improving because we knew the trick: get all the documents (air tickets, destination documents) and got through within 3 minutes (a record!). The luggage soon came out within another 3-minutes waiting. Then took a lift to departure floor to check-in again. The only delay is the Aer Lingus staff could not recognize our passport is visa-free to Dublin. The security station is no difficulty if you were well-prepared. Same shops and lounges after check-in.

T4 for Sri Lankan flight to and from CMB. This terminal seems to be the most remote to get to - in my case involving a Hoppa bus and Connect train service - taking nearly an hour from my hotel which was located within sight of the runways at Heathrow. A modernisation programme is underway - but this created little inconvenience. There are still many shops and restaurants open. I found the place strangely calming! Even able to find some quiet spaces to sit! Return was OK but as with most airports, the trek from plane to immigration to baggage collect is a bit of a marathon

Terminal 1. A vast improvement on a year ago. Lots of space in check in, hardly a queue for security, and space in the lounge. On return, the space for queuing in immigration is much improved. There are still tatty bits like baggage reclaim. I hadn't noticed the links between T1 and T2 on the airside before, which makes me assume that the plan to merge them into Heathrow East is progressing. For now it works - though there was the sense that it was off- peak and it would only take a bit of fog or an incident to cause chaos. I expect there will be another horrible period here when they try and push two terminals flights into one while they rebuild the other.
