Transited from a Schengen country to international (MXP-FRA-SIN) with Lufthansa. Passed all
the shops in the Schengen zone thinking I would get through passport control then shop duty
free. However once through security and passport control international travelers are left with
a single (small) duty free store, a coffee shop and news stand that were both closed. Once
really expects more and it doesn't match the experience of other international hubs.

Arrived on Singapore Airlines flight from JFK. Airport is huge, requiring long-walks to reach
immigration. Also had to walk for good 10 minutes in order to reach my departure gate on the
return. Having said that, airport is highly functional, with courteous immigration agent and
check-in agents as well. Information booth is visible, with helpful staff. Also, Frankfurt
Main does have plenty of natural light, being an easy 11-minute train ride to Frankfurt's
downtown main train station. All in all, in spite of its giant size-it is a pleasant and
functional airport to travel to and from or connect.

Had a quite positive experience this time at Frankfurt Airport. Arrived with Singapore
Airlines and did not have to catch a connecting flight, only go through passport control and
customs. Immigration took only a couple of minutes, luggage was already circling on the belt,
and within 30 minutes from arriving I was outside the airport and in Germany, fastest
clearance ever. Was particularly charmed by the luggage trolleys that can ride with you on the
escalator. Not by the uniformed lady who barked at me though, when I took the trolley inside
the toilet. Since I do not have the option of leaving luggage unattended outside the toilet I
do not understand her agitation - but that is only a minor detail I could ignore, the rest of
the experience at FRA was all good.

Schiphol-Riyadh transfer (Lufthansa flight) leads to a crazy route. First the passport control
inside the airport because going from to outside Schengen - not enough gates, no structure in
waiting lines, chaos where to stand, delay 10-25 minutes! Then internal (already being in the
airport) additional bag scanning so additional 10-20 minutes delay. Then walking long
distances, 3 floors stairs down and up again - or waiting long for a lift - then, at the gate,
no direct access to the airplane but bus transport - 10 minutes drive at least - waiting for
airplane and other traffic at crossing on the airfield - walking through cold and rain from
bus to aircraft.

Arrived from Toronto on Air Canada at 7am. B gate area clean and quiet. Staff pointed us in
direction of A gates. Long walk with poor signs. A area was overfilled, with few places for
food, and insufficient toilets. Security and Passport checks fast, but security agents seemed
to help German speaking passengers through much faster and with a smile, versus our group,
which received stares and barking from security personel. For passengers on Lufthansa and it's
partner airlines, you will be fine.

Extremely depressing, low ceilings, artificial light. Flow of passengers inconsistent with
logic.I t seems to have a derelict atmosphere and is not fitted to be a Star alliance hub. On
the plus side, nice food courts and upscale shops. And of course Terminal 2 -welcome to the
future of travel and what I call a nice , luminous and well designed terminal. Overall, the
airport is in serious need of major overhaul

I used this airport for the first time as a transit passenger. On the outward trip the flight
landed at B gates and the trip to Amsterdam took off from B13. I had to pass through passport
control and security check, but was ushered through the section for Business Class passengers
and so avoided much queuing. The relative absence of signs and the general layout seemed
confusing, especially compared with an airport like Osaka Kansai, which I regularly use. On
the return trip, however, the plane landed at one of the remoter gates in Terminal A. On the
way, I asked at the information desk in English and the lady kindly answered in very flawless
German that I had to go through a tunnel. Since the shuttle was not operating, the walk from
this gate to B26 was easily as long as at Schiphol, where I had just come from. The Business
Class lounge was not far from the gate and the facilities were reasonable.

Had to use Terminal 2 the other day. Crazy transportation concept: you can take your luggage
trolley up the escalators to the platform for the inter-terminal train, but they won't allow
you to take the trolley into the rail cars! The gate for my flight was not shown in the check-
in area despite the fact that the incoming flight had arrived and docked some 1 hour earlier.

Used the Lufthansa dedicated terminal, what a world of difference! Connecting to another
terminal or even another satellite isn't exactly the best experience, an improvement of
services is to be expected since the airport is currently under refurbishing. Restrooms and
travel services will hopefully improve, as many small things are up to the individual
politeness of the staff of each shop inside the airport. Will rather choose Munich when flying
Lufthansa again.

BA flight to Heathrow at 07.25 from terminal 2 - no business lounge open in the terminal - is
this Leeds/Bradford or an international airport? Security staff rude and miserable - I'm not
happy to be up at that time of Saturday either but I can still smile. FRA is always being held
up as some big threat to Heathrow but, give me T5 anytime - Frankfurt is a very poor
ambassador for a friendly country.

FRA airport it is a big airport and a main airport to interconnect around the world. I use
this airport as my interconnecting airport between North/South America with Middle East and
Asia and I find it easy to get around, good sign postings, very polite and helpful staff
everywhere. The facilities, shops and restaurants are more than sufficient and with a wide
variety.

A horrible layout, with frequently unpleasant staff (especially security) to add icing on the
cake. Heaven forbid you're making a connection, and your arrival and departure are from
different wings, or different terminals. Even if they're both Schengen (or non-Schengen, as
my recent trip was), you'll wind up going through security at least once. And of course, if
you don't like the food and shopping options in the arm of the terminal you're in, your only
option is to yes, wade through a security checkpoint all over again! The problem is
compounded by poor signage, often courtesy of Lufthansa (could someone please instruct them
that white lettering on a yellow background is not a readable choice). At one point, I
didn't even notice I had exited one security zone to enter another until I was almost past it
(no sign saying "Leaving secure zone," only a "no entry" sign, facing the other way!). When I
asked the security officer, who saw me there, trying to see what the other side of the sign
said, he forced me to go through the security line all over again if I wanted to turn back!
Of course, this wouldn't be nearly as big of a problem if each section of each terminal had
adequate food and shopping options, but all but one of them most emphatically do not.
International travelers going through a major hub expect more choices (without a trip through
security) than just one sit-down restaurant, one coffee shop, one news stand, and a duty-free!
I won't even get started on the small, infrequent, and hard-to-find restrooms. That said, if
your destination/departure is Frankfurt, the range of ground transport options, hotels, and
car hire makes it quite convenient. For everone else, I'd much rather connect through a
modern, efficient hub like Amsterdam or Zurich!

This has to be the worst, unfriendly airport I have had the pleasure to transit through!!
My advice, as many others have said in this forum, is to avoid it. They cut off padlocks from
our luggage when in transit and ruined our suitcases. No explanation, or note left, or
anything. They also confiscated a 1 ltr bottle of Baileys Irish Cream, which we had bought at
Domodedovo in Moscow. It was purchased from duty free and sealed in a plastic bag, with
receipt. They simply asked where we had travelled from, and when we replied Moscow, they took
our alcohol and put it in the rubbish bin. We were only in transit, not even entering their
country! Staff rude and place confusing.

Overall Frankfurt is okay but not particularly cutting edge. I often fly to the UK from it
and hate the fact that you have to go through security twice. For flights to the UK, you go
through the main security area but then have to go through a smaller security right before the
gate. Usually when I am traveling it is with my young son and after hauling all my luggage
through security number two to the gate waiting area, I have been dismayed to see that the
toilet is outside the gate and before security. I then have to haul all my stuff back out of
the gate to use the toilet and then go through the security line all over again. What idiot
puts toilets outside of the gate and security? At least put a sign warning people there are
none in the gate waiting area!

Even though it was the beginning of the holiday season, queues were fairly short and security
took me about 3min (Business). Check-in was no problem either. There is sufficient choice of
shops and restaurants. FRA is always very clean even though the design lacks some colors,
everything is gray. Staff polite, they don't smile as much as Asian employees, but what do
you expect in Europe. I cannot understand why most people here complain about FRA airport.
It's a big airport

FRA is quite well organized for such a large airport. My main confusion? In terminal A, the
bathrooms are single-person bathrooms!! When I travelled through recently, there were queues
of 8-10 people outside each door, creating unnecessary back-log and crowding into the
terminal. I can't for a minute imagine why an airport as big as Frankfurt would have single-
stall bathrooms. I don't know if that's how it works in other terminals, but it did in the
main Lufthansa terminal A. Also, upon arrival we had to use airstairs and be bussed into the
terminal, which took a long time - there was a traffic jam and we could not leave the bus for
a long time. And this was arriving on a full, wide-body aircraft from the US.

Arrived from Canada In Terminal 1B, connecting to a flight to Rome in Terminal 1B. Lots of
expensive places to get a coffee or snack in terminal 1B. Very confusing and poorly marked
underground walkway to "A" area. Once there, had little time to look for restaurants etc.
Restrooms were all very clean, staff were all helpful, overall, a pleasant airport. One word
of advice though, security is slow, as we had to clear on the return.

The handling of people needing assistance is inadequate and inefficient in Frankfurt. You wait
5 minutes until the check-in assistant can get hold of someone coordinating the assistance,
then 10 minutes are needed for the electric car to come and another 2/3 minutes for the driver
to key in data on his PDA. Then, you are driven a few meters and put off at security, where a
second person waits for you and looks at you going through the security check; this person
walks you 20 meters further to a bench where you wait another 15 minutes for the next car to
come(3rd involved person) and again for the input of data in the PDA. In Bangkok or Beijing,
no hightech electric cars but a simple wheelchair with a single person who brings you from A
to Z ! And this in Terminal 1; in Terminal 2, things are worse, as the cars do not fit into
the elevators.

Arriving from the brilliant Terminal 5 at LHR, Terminal 2 at FRA is a bit of a nightmare. Huge
distances to walk, through featureless and dimly lit corridors. Large number of missing
ceiling panels with wires and pipework hanging down just looks bad. Long wait at passport
control and another long walk to the transit - to get to Terminal 1 and all the public
transport options. It's all looking a bit tired and in need of maintenance at the moment -
unusual for a German airport, especially their primary international hub. As for departing
Terminal 2 - stay well away from the food hall in Terminal 2 - it's vile. Things do get better
airside though.

I really do not understand why most passengers complain about FRA airport. I use this airport
as my home airport for more than 20 years and I find it very easy to get around, good sign
postings, very polite and helpful staff from FRAPORT, the airport handling agency. There are
various help desks, virtually near every corner of all Terminals. It is no problem to succeed
in 45 min transfer time connections within same Terminal (T1 or T2) and u need abt 60 min
between Termials T1 n T2 vv. The shopping n entertainment venues are more than sufficient.
The supermarket (TEGUT) in Terminal 1 Hall C is great and has normal street prices.

Frankfurt airport is huge, but lacks variety of shops and if you have long break there is
limited things you can do. The most annoying thing is that you can`t take trolleys into the
train connecting terminals.T he other annoying thing is that I passed numerous metal detectors
with the same clothes, only in Frankfurt did go off.

Arrived at terminal 2 concourse D and my connecting flight was in terminal 1 concourse A.
Terminal 2 is not as busy as terminal 1 and no queues on passport control. Getting to the
skyline train for changing terminals was pretty simple, the train passes by frequently and the
process does not take more than 5 minutes. Upon arriving at A, there was a security check but
also no queues.

I have transited FRA on many occasions and found this trip to be especially frustrating. I was
coming from SFO and enroute to ATH. I had about 3 hours in between and wanted to go into the
terminal to buy something at the terminal supermarket. As we arrived in C, I went into the LH
lounge in C and then exited into Germany. As the ATH flight left from A, my re-entry to claim
my stuff in C required numerous explanations and checks only to find that in moving from C to
A I had once again to exit (non-Schengen) and re-enter again. All in all, I have three German
stamps for a 3 hour visit - not bad for filling the passport. I have previously realized that
FRA is a complex airport but this was my first experience with this much confusion. Signage is
adequate but could be improved.

We arrived at gate B44 and left from gate A38. The transfer between the two terminals was
relatively easy. We had to clear the passport control as we had arrived from Canada. After
that, down some stairs and through the security scan again. Not sure why this was required as
there was no other way to access this area other than from passport control. This could be a
hindrance if your connection is too tight as it took us a little bit to get through this
checkpoint. After clearing here, we followed the signs and took the long tunnel to terminal
A. On the way back, we arrived at A36 and left from B44. We only had 35 minutes to make the
transfer since our arriving flight was late. No problems as we didn't have to clear any
security. We arrived at our flight with 25 minutes to spare after doing some jogging to get
there. We would do the transfer here again and didn't experience any of the signage issues
others have.

Recently came in from Doha on Qatar Airways, transferred through Frankfurt to London on
British Airways. QR arrives in Terminal 1B, and BA heads out from Terminal 2D. As others
have noted, unless you know your way around the airport, it is very easy to get lost. I would
recommend that if you intend making a transfer, you google 'Frankfurt Airport' and head into
the 'maps' section: here you will find the relationship between Terminal 1 and 2, which will
give you a rough idea of where you are headed for. Once you have a rough idea, the signage
(or lack of it) will not be so confusing. However, because I was transferring between
airlines, I could not arrange for the automatic transfer of my bags at Frankfurt, so had to
collect them on arrival and re-check them for the next sector: to do this, you have to pass
through immigration, so any passenger in transit between airlines will need either a EU
passport or a visa, in order to collect hold baggage. Maybe I was dumb, but nowhere could I
see a Transfer Desk, as at other airports, where a transfer could be carried out. Also, if in
transit between terminals using the overhead train, be warned that you have to pass through
security: as another poster has noted, they use hand wands set to the most sensitive setting:
watches, all small change, shoes, belts, pens etc have to be removed; even the passport in my
shirt pocket had to be taken out and inspected. This is all very time-consuming: allow a
minimum of 2 hours between flights if you are changing terminals. Overall, a very depressing
airport.

I used Frankfurt airport recently. I am in total agreement with other reviews, it is a
horrible place to use, if you can avoid it please do. Terminal 1 was just too dark and dingy,
and most of all too confusing, and very intimidating, There was no help desk or help that I
could find. I do not know what terminal 2 is like, so if any of you have recently used
terminal 2, I would be keen to read about your experience there. On the whole this really is a
terrible place.
