Belize Int'l Airport by Gerald Preis
28 July 2004 Customer Rating : n/a
My trip to Belize took me through BZE 3 times. It is a classic sleepy 2-room airport: an updated
arrivals hall with a mechanical carousel, a communal departure area serving the 4 or 6 gates (glass
doors, really) that lead to the tarmac, separated by the small, warm, somewhat chaotic check-in
area. Some staff were friendly and enthusiastic, security checks were minimal. Few large jets come
to BZE, but they do seem to be timed near each other. Most flights are prop planes to the interior
and the offshore reefs. There is a pleasant open air deck that allows views of arriving and
departing passengers walking to and from their planes. There is nothing else to do while waiting
for your flight. Bring a book. Amenities are few: tiny gifts shops, snack bars and a cafeteria. A
good place to people watch. Very stress-free, and it serves its purpose. Ambergris Cay was our real
destination. Well worth the trip!
