I found Boston to be very efficient for arrivals (on Aer Lingus). Off the plane, luggage collected and on the street in 20 minutes - hard to beat that. Great idea doing the immigration in Shannon. However, the departures is a different matter for me. Efficient and quick service booking in, but $3 dollars for a trolley, and only 25c in return when returning leaves a bitter taste for me. I think the terminal is 'E', and a tip for anyone - Aer Lingus check-in desks are to the far end of the terminal. When You walk into the terminal, turn right and there is a gap on the left which leads to the security. I saw a lot of trolleys left there. I would have awarded Logan 5 stars but for rip-off charge for a trolley.

Flew in and out in late June, with minimal queues both ways and helpful staff. The only criticism is the limited range of shops in the international departure lounge and that all the airline lounges are windowless.

Flew into Boston from Philadelphia, and flew out of Boston to Charlotte, both with US Airways. Facilities within the airport are nice. However, if one had to connect in Boston with two different airlines, it would be horrific, as the airport is divided up between 5 or 6 separate terminals with no way to get from one to the other without leaving security from one, and having to re-enter security at another.

A reasonable airport which serves its function satisfactorily. Immigration was quick and painless, and without the usual aggressive cross-questioning I get as a solo female traveller - a great relief. The information desk was open and the staff member helpful, and I got a taxi into town almost straight away. The return leg was okay - KLM/NWA check-in is self-service and efficient - but was slightly dampened by the disorganised security staff (how many times must people show their boarding passes?!) and lack of choice of somewhere to eat after passport control; but eventually Houlihan's proved a reasonable option with friendly bar staff and quick service. The rocking chairs in the departure lounge were a nice touch.

Have been a frequent LHR to Logan passenger for years, the last 3 with a child. The only good thing going for Logan is the short walk from the gate to immigration. Otherwise, Logan is, surprisingly, incredibly baby/child-unfriendly, particularly when one is travelling on one's own. Baggage handling takes forever. The pushchair, promised immediately on exiting the aircraft as at LHR, never materializes. It doesn't arrive in the baggage hall until LONG after the last of the baggage have cleared, somewhat battered. It's not easy trying to carry a car seat with a baby in it, hand luggage, and gather baggage simultaneously. Other passengers waiting in the same predicament often take pity and offer help, which is just as well as the personnel are insolent and unsympathetic. After 3 journeys of said experience, I gave up and bought a Sit 'N Stroll but continue to see families waiting forlornly for their pushchairs to arrive. This is in contrast to LHR, a much- maligned airport, where I've always had every assistance I required as soon as I stepped off the plane

BOS is my home airportt. I find it a perfectly functional airport, but not terribly exciting. Some terminals (A, E Landside) are newly renovated and quite nice, while others (B) are in need of work. I've always been able to check in quickly and baggage delivery has usually been prompt. There are an adequate assortment of shops and restaurants though some of them are landside rather than airside (such as the Boston Landing area in Terminal C). I've found the TSA staff at this airport to be among the more professional and efficient in the country. Coming off international flights, clearing customs is a matter of hit or miss. I've made it from the plane to the curb in less that 15 minutes, but other times, it's taken an hour. Transit access to this airport from downtown has improved since the institution of the Silver Line, though it is still a bus subject to the same pitfalls of traffic and slow boarding as the Massport shuttle to the Blue Line.

Flew into Boston from UK on the Friday evening before Independence Day when thought it would be busy. What a breeze. The view of the city upon landing is spectacular in the setting sun! Was off the aircraft, through Immigration and Baggage Reclaim, and into Arrivals Hall in less than 30 minutes. The best thing about Logan Airport is its proximity to the city - so much better than DC and both Newark and JFK. Took approximately 20 minutes by taxi to arrive at hotel. Very pleasant experience and wouldn't hesitate to fly into Logan again if visiting the East Coast.

Flew into Logan on Luftansa via Munich. Quick, no-hassle experience through very pleasant customs/immigration arrivals area; easy connection to Memphis via Northwest. Dramatic Terminal E ticketing area; comfortable NW departures area though somewhat confusing to find. Logan really needs to provide escalators connecting international departures (where most of the food/shopping is located) with NW domestic departures instead of that hidden elevator. Luckily, staff very helpful and courteous. Much easier/less stressful than the usual JFK connections.

Keep in mind that the following opnions are based on my experiences from Friday, March 16th and Saturday, March 17th when the Northeastern US was hit by a severe snowstorm: BOS did not handle the bad weather situation well. Information provided was erratic if at all available. Flights that were cancelled were not listed as cancelled on the information monitors. They were simply taken off the monitors once cancelled. The airline staff told us that this was the way Massport, the company in charge of BOS Operations, always did it. One flight was listed with an arrival time of 6:30 pm until 6:40 pm despite that the airline staff knew that the same flight had not even departed from the airport it had been diverted to in the midst of the storm. The Massport staff assigned to the public information desks were extremely unhelpful and explained all problems with the incorrect information on the arrival/departure monitors as "it's in the computers"! I can accept that a bad weather situation is extremely stressfull to any airport. But the unprofessionalism exhibited by BOS/Massport is totally unacceptable.

Used BOS for BOS-FRA earlier this month, returning yesterday. Terminal E's upgrades are nearing completion, now Massport is putting new wall coverings up, and new flooring at the Northwest section of the terminal. Boarding was not as chaotic as before, and escalators were installed at this gate as well (departure lounge on level 3, boarding and CBP on level 2). On arrival, the CBP immigration hall was empty. I have never seen it so empty before. I was literally through immigration 45 seconds after I entered the hall. The bag claim/customs hall is almost fully completed; there is a temporary wall beyond carousel 6, but other than that, Terminal E is nearly done, and has come a long way.

9 September 2006

Used Terminal E for BOS-CDG-BOS. The terminal's interior upgrading is almost complete. Food quality is good. If you have time, go to Houlihans, if not, plenty of other locations to choose. Shopping was alright, but not much in the way of books, except outside security. Boarding was slightly chaotic since we used gate 6 which looks as if it were placed arbitrarily. A note here, terminal E gates, with the exception of Northwest (the only permanant carrier there) are not leased to the airlines, hence the lack of airline signage. Also the ground employees are not employees of the carrier. They are local employees assigned to carriers. I encountered a Lufthansa ground crewmember who told me she actually works for GlobeGround. She spoke German, as do I, but when I asked her if fluent German was a requirement, she replied "you don't even have to be fluent in English". Kinda unsettling. Flight departed on time, the return went alright, however Customs still has not staffed the arrivals hall fully. While I realize this is not JFK, it is no excuse to understaff the immigration hall. Especially when 4 flights arrive at the same time. Other than that it went well. The Airport Subway Station has come a long way, and is very nice. Take it if you are trying to get downtown. Otherwise, the Silver Line is also quite comfortable. Take it to South Station.

3 August 2006

BOS-JFK-BUR on JetBlue out of Terminal C. JetBlue's upgrades are becoming visable. There is now a Johnny Rockets, a Wolfgang Puck, and a Starbucks next to gate 28. A permanent Dunkin Donuts is under construction next to gate 29 (currently there's a DD kiosk). There is also construction across from security where the Sam Adams used to be. At the end of this year, JetBlue has announced that it will be taking over Continental's Terminal C gates, giving them more space to work with. The security line at C hasn't been too bad the last few times ive flown out of Logan. My only gripe about Logan is that AirTran was kicked out of the United bag claim and is now in with jetBlue, clogging the arrival hall every time they get a flight.

3 June 2006

Had the misfortune to use Logan airport twice recently - what a disgrace! Over an hour to get through immigration then sent to the wrong terminal for connecting flight. 45 minutes to get through next security check with staff that simply throw your hand luggage around or stand chatting, and rude in the extreme. All this caused us to miss our connection and we were made to fell it was our fault!! Same problems on the way back. If this is the first view visitors get of the USA, I bet many want to turn straight back. What a shambles.

25 May 2006

Had to use Logan for a flight from STL-ACK. Terminal B is chaotic. I almost got lost trying to find the Terminal C walkway. Inside Terminal C, there is a Burger King, Sam Adams, Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks, and Legal Seafoods. The Burger King is alright. My Advice is to eat at Legal Seafoods if you have time. Security At Terminal C is very organized. I forgot to mention that in the long hallway area, the Check in desks are all in one central island. The gates are well laid out, and the Cape Air gate area is well maintained. It's in the Continental Connection area, near Midwest.

26 March 2006

Flew out of BOS last week to CDG and back. Terminal E's interior is still under construction. They added escalators to the gates now for easier access (upgraded from the stairs they used to have). Who says theres no Duty Free in E? There is sufficient DF available. Also, please bear in mind that the airlines do not lease the space in the terminal, so boarding will of course be chaotic. There's simply no way around it. For you people complaining about the lounges being downstairs, you get what you pay for. Live with it. Nothing you say or do will change it. Theres simply no room for the lounges upstairs. Immigration is fine as it is. The problem lies with the lack of CBP inspectors. Today when I returned, there were 4 flights arriving, and only 5 desks for US Citizens, and 4 for Non-US Citizens. They simply need to staff the hall better. The Customs/Baggage Claim area is still under construction. So give it some time. The terminal will be completed before long. As for you loungers, maybe its time for you to break down and enjoy the view with us paying customers.

17 January 2006

Public transport to Logan Airport is somewhat lacking and inconvenient. The Airport T-station does not stop in the terminal building, but is a good 2-minute ride by shuttle bus. Not all buses will take you to your terminal. You have to wait for the correct bus to take you to your terminal and that could mean a wait of another 10 minutes. If you have heavy and bulky luggage, it is inconvenient to carry it up the T-train - you cannot roll on your luggage but you have to climb up two steps. It is really inconvenient for the physically disabled. Fortunately, Logan Airport is not too far from the city and a taxi ride should cost you around $15.

2 January 2006

BA terminal E. Boston (Logan) is a modern very clean airport. Largely without much personality, and very short on passenger facilities. Immigration need to be sent back to maker for re-programming! Lounges in the basement, no windows and BA need to get the seat covers cleaned, they are all very grubby and dirty. Pre- flight dining was good however, and the staff in the lounge were pleasant. Boarding was just plain chaos, but most of the other flights leaving at the same time looked in a similar state, so not down to BA I guess.

17 November 2005

Boston Airport terminal E. Sept 05. Got through check in at Virgin U/C in about 5 mins. Terminal light, airy and clean. Made our way to the North West Lounge. What a disappointment, like an underground cavern. None of the desktops were working so no internet access, hot drinks from paper cups and nibbles were small packs of biscuits. At least the Virgin "eat before you fly " was a better effort even though we only had 20 mins to eat it. Just as well we could eat on the plane as well. The transport system from the water bus was efficient enough.

6 November 2005

We flew into and out of Boston in September. What a disappointment after the wonderful city. We decided to check in and go through to eat, what a mistake. The options of food was very poor. We should have eaten landside. Also the lack of shops was disappointing, three hours to wait for flight with nothing to browse round - awful. We also felt the surroundings were very poor. Local Bostonians at the check in queue had little to praise about the airport. Driving to the airport is something to avoid at all cost. Cannot fault the city but the airport needs to improve, sooner rather than later.

12 October 2005

Boston has made solid improvements in the last few years. Some remaining cautions: Don't check you bag. The baggage handling is the slowest I've seen. Arrive early. Parking garage will be under construction for several year and remote parking add 1/2 hour to your arrival. Be prepared to walk. Distances from parking to the gate feel like about a mile.

Boston Airport review by Steve Kenowen

10 July 2005

As a seasonal resident of Boston, I have the pleasure of dealing with Logan on many occasions. The transport to the airport has hugely improved with the completion of the new subway station for the airport with no stairs (the old one made you climb a few hundred feet of stairs with your luggage). I always fly on Continental, so I have to limit my comments to Terminal C only. Check in is wonderful, and even though I check in at the first class counter, I've never seen a wait at the economy class line. The major problem with C is that everything is landside, before security. The food options are great (Legal Seafoods is a must) as well as the shopping. Continental's Presidents Club is landside as well (other airlines' are airside). This creates the problem of having to eat, shop, have a drink, and relax in the lounge, all pre-security, meaning the time you have to head to your gate is ambigious. Once you pass security in Terminal C though, there is NOTHING, zip, nadda. Especially now that Continental uses the strange mini-terminal in C (gates 40-42), once you pass security, there's a restroom and a magazine stand. Overall though, Logan is a great airport and I have relatively few gripes using it.

29 June 2005

Boston Logan Airport really is getting noticeably better. Give it a try! Terminal A is open with all Delta, Song and Delta Connection flights having moved into it last month. Terminal E (international flights), particularly the departures area, is one of the most understated, elegant modern facilities I have ever seen. Terminal C remains cramped and abysmal, although finally JetBlue has promised major upgrades to the section of Terminal C it now occupies. I'll wait and see on how "improveable" the situation there really is. Silver Line express bus service to South Station in downtown Boston is now available. Since I live here and am stuck using Logan I tend to be hypercritical, but I must say real improvements have taken place in the past year or two.

I'll make sure I fly into Boston whenever I enter into the States. Flew into Boston on BA, customs was a breeze, then rode the lift to a beautiful glass enclosed moving-sidewalk to the absolutely smashing Delta terminal for my connecting flight to Tampa. Many, many shops and places to eat and relax in Delta's terminal. Absolutely top notch! Reverse order on my return; welcomed by lovely terminals, both Delta and International Terminal E, courteous and helpful agents and convenient connections.

2 March 2005

Getting to and from Logan is so much easier now that the big dig is about finished and the new roadways are completed. International Terminal E is stunning; the ticketing area is absolutely huge, walls and ceilings covered with wood paneling; very soothing and relaxing atmosphere though upstairs at the departure areas seems somewhat dated though the food areas and stores are very adequate. Customs is much better now that the area has been expanded and the greeting area downstairs is very nice as well. Beautiful skywalk/moving sidewalk bridge to the parking lot has spectacular views of the city!

28 February 2005

I have seen improvements when I fly out of Logan specifically on Song from terminal C when I go to Florida to visit family. It helps when you can get your boarding pass on line so that way you don't have to wait in line to check in . And as for any bags that needs to be check I just use curb side check in, which for the most part is efficient and the staff courteous. I have had to wait no more than 20 to 30 minutes to get through security. It will undoubtedly vary with the time you leave too. If you allow yourself ample time you should have no problems. What Boston lacks is gate space and custom facilities which hopefully will improve with the expansion of terminal E and the addition of the west concourse as well as the opening of terminal A . Hopefully it will be open come April when I fly to the midwest. Getting to the 5 terminals from the garage is much better with the moving side walks. The two tier roadway system at first a bit tricky due to not enough road signage in advance so one can be in the proper lane to take the proper off ramp especially when exiting the airport. And here I am a north shore resident can you imagine how confusing it must be for an out of stater.

18 January 2005

Flying out of terminal C either be an elite, fly first or be prepared for the longest wait in your life. First of all, the security "professionals" known as the TSA have a system to control the amount of passengers in the terminal. They will send you down a lengthy corridor where your wait time is around 45 minutes, depending on the time of day. In 4 months, I departed from terminal C, and every time, I was in the security line for no less than a half hour, and after you get by the titanic preliminary security line, you need to wait in another line, and then you get told which line to use, depending on indications on your boarding card (if you have 3 s's (sss) on your boarding card. Be prepared to be frisked. I am a frequent flier with American and I have an elite card. This card allows me to jump to the front of the security line, if American (or it's partners) fly out of that terminal, or if the TSA officer speaks English. The officers sometimes don't even look at the airline - just the color of your card. The other terminals in this airport are more efficient - especially terminal E, the international terminal. In this terminal, however, the desk agents are not employed by the airlines, but by Massport (big mistake). The customs hall in Logan is a joke. It is dirty, and under construction - the worst customs hall I've seen. It was nice in the early 90s, but now, it is run down and crowded every time a flight from Europe lands, which is around the same time for every airline, so bring your folding chairs and be prepared to hang out for a while.

4 April 2004

Boston Airport (Logan) can be easily reached by public transport, which is a big advantage for travellers like me. I use to take public transport wherever available. I have never arrived in BOS, thus I only describe the departure facilities. United's terminal C isn't really impressive, but quite okay. Concourse C is old, ugly and boring. I was glad as we were called to embark the aircraft. Additionally I want to remark, that I had to undergo a separate security check lasting approximately five minutes. My baggage and shoes were screened, and I was inspected with a detector. They opened my baggage and controlled each item. The security staff was courteous and friendly all the time.

26 March 2004

Being a native of Massachusetts, Logan is almost the only airport I have ever started a trip from, and the conditions are alright with me. What a lot of arriving travelers may not know or understand is that over the past few years, Logan has gotten to be a very crowded airport. Massport (they regulate most travel issues) is doing things about this, mainly suggesting that travelers use regional airports and renovating the airport to accomodate more customers. Believe me, all you really need to do is be patient - and you'll need a lot of it in Boston, since it seems like everything's being worked on, thanks to the Big Dig!

Boston Airport review by Kevin Leung

26 February 2004

I think this is the worst USA airport I have ever visited in my life. Maybe my travel experience is not enough for me to make such comments, but after visiting DTW, LAX, SFO and ORD, BOS definitely the worst among the other five! Terminal C simply old and crampy although Terminal E looks better in the departure/arrival hall only! The restricted area of BOS Terminal E still nothing appreciate even it is a new building!! Also, the Airport Station of Boston subway is really a joke for a great city like Boston, what a "good" impression for all visitors to Boston, going downtown by subway!

4 February 2004

The new American Eagle terminal has relieved some of the congestion, however, most of the airport is still ridiculously dense and crowded. If the renovations ever get finished, things should improve substantially.

Boston Airport review by M Shea

8 December 2003

If your arriving off of an International Flight beware that Terminal E is in the process of renovation. It is not uncommon to be held on the aircraft whenever 2-3 heavy flights arrive at the same time, the Customs Hall gets so crowded that US Customs simply doesn't have the man power to deal with it and requires you stay for up to 45 minutes. The good thing is that when you leave there is a new DFS area and a variety of nice restaurants to choose from aswell as excellent viewing areas of RW 15R/33L. Terminal A is now torn down to make room for the new Delta Flight Centre. All Delta flights including some Skyteam operators will arrive and depart from this area. When completed it should have well over 24 gates and a wide variety of restaurants and shopping. Terminal B is an eye-sore! Both American Airlines and USAirways depart from this terminal, both satellites are separated by a 5 story car park which by the way is a great aircraft spotting area. The US Airways satellite has a wonderful array of shops and some fast food restaurants, the LGA and DCA Shuttle area is a great area to relax in and read magazines or rent a DVD, also the Delta Shuttle is temporarily locted here until the completion of Terminal A. American Airlines needs to do something more with their area. They have well over 40 daily departures, 2 of which are to LHR and 1 to CDG. They have no DFS area, no restaurants pass security and the gate area is very small and cramped, and expect long lines at the security check point. Terminal C is getting better, at this time it occupies Delta, United, Air Canada, Cape Air, Midwest and Continental. There is a lengthly wait at the security check point so bring a book. The little retail shops are nice as is the Legal Seafoods Restaurant and Starbucks Coffee areas. There is a bookstore and a childrens toy store and play area also. Terminal D is a disgrace! The only airline operating from it is Air Tran, it has a Dunkins Donuts and the State Police area, nothing more. Logan Airport is slowly getting to be a world class airport, hopefully by 2010 Massport will have completed all the necessary renovations and make it pleasure to fly into and out of.

Boston Airport by Armen Terjimanian

14 November 2003

Logan is a just adequate enough American airport that's taken a lot of heat since 9-11 (and deservedly so since it was one of the airports that one of the flights originated from). Terminal A is the midst of being rebuilt. I have never been in Terminal B so I cannot say much about it. Terminal C houses the Boston Landing containing shops, restaurants (fast food plus Legal Seafoods), and an open area among the check in gates. Thankfully this is before security so people waiting to pick up passengers can hang around there for a bit. The security lines, however, in C are atrocious. Every time I've been in that terminal, they seem to be longer than they should be-- especially at 8am on a Sunday morning. It took me 20 minutes to get through the line--not efficient at all although the TSA folks were friendly (a plus). Terminal E is the int'l/northwest terminal and it just underwent renovation but seems cramped and small. overall Logan ranks below average but it certainly isn't the worst terminal or airport in the country.

One piece of advice if flying out of the American Airlines Terminal in Boston. If you are looking to eat before the flight, don't reckon on having a meal at the airport - there is nothing there !

Boston Airport by Cyrille Roche

15 July 2003

It seems these immigration officers are really slow. The luggage delivery area is very small, especially when three or four long-haul aircraft come in together. Terminal E is a shame. I've never seen such a dirty terminal. For departure we had Terminal C which was a little better. Check-in was good, security was correct and fair. I think that things will be better when the expansion will be completed. A big big plus: The boat transfer from down-town to Logan. Well worth 10 $!

Boston Airport by Anirudh Ruia

1 May 2003

If you think JFK or LAX are bad, think again? Boston's Logan has got to be the worst international airport in the United States. The terminal is small and cramped and bathrooms have broken stalls and smell of urine. When i arrived on my British Airways from London we had to wait on the plane for 20 minutes because a Swiss flight had just arrived from Zurich and the immigration line was too long. There, almost always, seems to construction going on, which creates so much of a traffic jam, it's unbelievable. Boston's Logan is like a huge petrol station rather than an airport.
