They have at time of writing, 1 or 2 flights a day, as such the terminal is cosy. When you fly in, there is not enough space for everyone in baggage reclaim, and flying out airside there is not enough space to stand or sit on a full flight. The duty free /bar is not much bigger than a couple of phone boxes! For those travelling to Leipzig, while the distance is not that far away it is cross country and not on motorways, so may take longer than expected. On the plus the cafe is a little gem, good food cooked to order, and at a good price. Cannot see how this airport can be viable considering 1 or 2 flights are paying for the airport, but hope it continues.

Wonderful. So small I was only in it for 5 minutes before being driven away by the colleagues who came to meet me. I hope, however, that they don't increase traffic too much, as it will never cope with only one gate!

As with many small airports, travelling to and from Altenburg is a pleasure. The terminal is about as big as a Drive-Through burger restaurant, and there is free parking within 30m of the building. This airport is an excellent option for passengers travelling to or from the southern part of the former East Germany, or to the north of Bavaria (I live in Bamberg, and the drive is much shorter and more pleasant than to the next nearest Ryanair airport at Frankfurt Hahn). On the downside, if you arrive early, the Duty Free shop is very small, and the restaurant is basic, but the staff are friendly.
