I have flown through Amsterdam more than 20 times. A big airport with a lot of walking to be done. Its
clean and bathroom facilities are frequent. The central area is full of shops and bars, generally overpriced as
a beer will run you 6-8 euros. All in all okay, however staff and security procedures could be considered
intimidating. Most times you go through a security check twice, you get questioned one on one about your
baggage and your entire day. The only thing I cant understand is their policy with duty free. If you bring a
sealed bottled in the duty free vacuum sealed bag with a receipt from another airport, they will confiscate it.
Originally I thought this was a one time thing but over the years I have lost 3-4 bottles in that airport. I
have been to over 100 airports and this is the only airport where this is apparently policy. Besides the duty
free stance, the high prices, and the over the top security procedures I can't complain.

The airport has a lot of facilities, plenty of room, a nice atmosphere and efficient layout. Sometimes you have the
problem with a short transit to have to run from one side of the airport, on the other side.

Airport Plaza is great, better shopping options expected post check-in. Checking in can be crazy with long queues,
expect to do everything yourself, self service check-in and baggage drop. Need more baggage drop machines and
courteous staff.

I stopped in this airport for a couple of hours on my return from Italy to the USA, since Amsterdam is a hub for
Delta Airlines and for some reason I did not have a direct flight back to the states on my return. First, we had to
stand in a line for passport control to go from one terminal to another. If my flight were in the same terminal, I
would have just gotten on the plane, but as it was not I had to go and have my passport stamped to enter a
terminal - surely the workers realize the people going to the other side of the terminal are leaving Amsterdam and
this was a waste of time. Then there was a huge line as they do security at the gate, however, the line was huge
and there are not enough seats at the gate. I walked across the hall and sat for 30+ minutes until the line died
down and then went through security. It seemed to me if you went through the line early, not only would you be
waiting in this huge line, but then you would be in this "holding area" until you boarded the plane with no restroom.
The screening is very advanced, they scan a color copy of your passport and ask you questions and even have
body scanner machines, which I asked if I could bypass, they agreed and were professional, but still I prefer the
Italian airports, where there is much less rigmarole involved. Schiphol reminded me of a USA/TSA airport which I
do not care for, although they were mostly polite, and efficient to me, I think I would skip it next time.

A supposedly major transit airport. The priority lane at custom for flights with short connection time helps nothing
at all, people still queue up, and the office allowed people with a small window of time before takeoff to jump the
queue. Our boarding gate had even closed with no last call announcement. The high speed footpath was not
operating, we all had to run from one end of the pier to another. The flight reconnection kiosk supposedly to allow
better access for passengers who miss the flight and reduce the staff workload. Yet the system simply couldn't
find our entry. People still have to approach the transfer counter and the number of KLM staff were so few, while
people anxiously waiting to be helped were so many. It was another long queuing process. With all of the above,
do we still have the time and mood to enjoy the facilities this airport can offer?

OSL to MSP through AMS on Delta. The extra security check at the gate for the AMS to MSP flight was expected,
what was not expected was being physically hit by the Dutch equivalent of TSA. The trays for laptops passing
through the metal detector are sized to handle pocket change. I was worried that my laptop would fall from the
tray. I walked through the whole body scanner all the while pre-occupied with what was happening with my laptop.
After exiting the body scanner, I walked over to the metal detector to retrieve my laptop. Next thing I know this
TSA guy is hitting me on the back and yelling 'I'm not finished with you'. I was completely surprised and taken
aback. There were no signs or people waiting just after exiting the body scanner saying I should stay put. I told the
TSA guy that I didn't know I had done anything wrong and he yelled again that he wasn't finished. For those
Americans who constantly complain about USA TSA, try flying through AMS. Unlike other reviewers, I did find AMS
to be a clean airport especially given it's size. As for walking times, it's a large airport so what do you expect.

Having travelled several times to Schiphol Airport twice with a young child I can say that the only complaint I would
have is that we were delayed, while waiting to board the plane we waited down the steps and with a pram and a
small child, had I not have been travelling with my mother it would have been extremely difficult to manage both.
Lovely clean airport with numerous facilities.

I transferred at Schipol and I had to go through 3 full security checks with large queues at 2 of these. Very poorly
organised facilities, only good thing was security staff were less unpleasant than usual. Airport is great for shoppers
I guess but I would avoid it if at all possible.

It seems a good airport, but to make a transfer there could be a nightmare. I don't know if KLM is responsible for
choosing the gates, but if you by a ticket with a short connection is normal that from one gate to the other you
have to run 2 km. Security control is awful, but I have to say staff were very friendly.

Have changed here many times. Though it is very busy and walking distances can be lengthy, the degree of
organization is good though the schengen passport queue is tiresome. Facilities are good and clean. I do miss
being able to go on the roof terrace however. A second security check while transiting is tiresome but a sign of the
time, however a single terminal albeit very large is great and my family love the shops.

Arrived at Schiphol 4 days ago for a 2 month holiday in The Netherlands. One passport check as I left the
plane and easily found my way to the luggage area, then to the customs gate, with virtually no waiting time.
Only showed my passport to the official and was asked reason, duration and location of my stay in perfect
English. Only moments later I was at the exit of the airport wondering how it'd been so easy after the nightmare
4 hour stop at Guangzhou airport.

Its a good and spacious airport, it also has a large variety of shops & restaurants. The airport itself
is very clean and the washroom is also very clean and there is almost no queuing at immigration.

I was on transit to BUD. KLM transfer desk staff efficient and helpful. The airport receives so
many international arrivals in the early morning. To my surprise, the immigration counters were
understaffed. I was travelling alone and travelling light. However, I was in the queue for about
45 minutes. Pity to those families travelling with small children. Obviously, queuing after
coming from a long haul flight is not a pleasant experience for them.

Airport is too big. The walking distances could be very long and it will take some time. In
general the people working on the airport are friendly but not very helpful. The security
people seems not really motivated.

My wife and I flew KLM from Schiphol to JFK last week - the worst and most offensive security
arrangement we have seen. The security check is done by a team at each of the gates prior to
boarding. When the start of the security check was announced, we stood in a long line and had
no opportunity to prepare ourselves by emptying pockets, removing jackets, taking out
computers, etc. People standing in line finally came to the single checkpoint where a woman
barked out orders like a drill sergeant to move on through quickly. The people operating the
full body scanner were competent and professional. Once we had passed through security, we
assumed that boarding the airplane was to begin shortly. Instead we were kept for 2 hours. in
an overcrowded holding pen that seemed to have been designed for cattle. The holding pen had
no toilets and a single machine for selling water. I lost 3 euros in it without a bottle
coming out and when I asked the KLM agent nearby, she replied brusquely (without looking up)
that the airline had nothing to do with the machine. A short time later, I saw a Dutch
gentleman go through the same procedure. I walked over to the counter where he spoke to the
same KLM employee. He said that he had lost his money in the machine and asked if he could
exchange a 5 euro bill for coins so that he could try again. The agent dismissed him, saying,
"I am not a bank!". He was told a place in the airport where he could report the problem but
came back later, saying that they could not help him there. I elected not to go with him
because I was informed that I would have to go through the entire security routine again and
that we would be getting water on the airplane. Later on in the airplane, the captain
apologized for the long delay, explaining that it was due to the fact that the airplane had
arrived late from its previous flight. Obviously the security people knew this, so it was
puzzling why they rushed us through so quickly, knowing that we would have to stand in the
holding pen for hours before being able to board the airplane.

Its signs are easy to follow, many shops and bars/eating places, a train station in the
arrivals hall many connections, and no annoying loss of time because for commuting between
terminals. Security is slow (and not always performed by the most intelligent amongst us),
taxiing can take some time as does the baggage arrival.

As a Dutchman I'm no longer proud on this airport. It has grown too big. It took us 2 hours
from entering the airport terminal until arriving at the designated gate. Because we were
flying inside the Schengen area, luckily we didn't have to pass passport control.

On entering through the main door you are actually in the bus/train station. It takes a little
searching then to find out where to go as most signage here is given over to trains and buses
- through here signs are easy to follow. The only thing is the sheer distance to walk, but
there are moving walkways. Check in and security a breeze, (they have the new scanners that
'see through' your clothes) with a good array of food and shopping outlets. Arrived at and
flew from the 'economy pier' H, the departure lounge of which was a box really, a bit too warm
with only a dozen or so seats!
