Quite an average airport considering how modern it is. Good check-in times, quick queues at security. Not enough
seating, not enough shops but plenty of places to eat. Shops that were there were quite good, pretty overpriced
and concentrated in one place. Gate agents below par, and air conditioning terrible!

Cavernous airport with insufficient seating in many areas. On the two occasions we have flown from the airport
recently the temperature has been absolutely unbearable with air conditioning totally ineffective and passengers
stripping off and fanning. Outside the temperature was much lower than in the airport which heated up like a
greenhouse. Announcements are incomprehensible, perhaps because of the echo in the huge spaces. In the car rental
areas the ramps are incredibly narrow causing difficulty in particular to those driving their cars for the first time
out of the airport. Have been travelling several times a year to Alicante for 11 years. Our experience in the old
airport was always excellent. Only improvement is perhaps the number of toilets but in general our experience of
departures from the new airport has not been a pleasant one. We have also experienced the arrivals area - meeting
friends and family coming to visit. In such a huge airport this area is minute, hard for those waiting and those
arriving not to fall over each other, and nowhere to sit except 2 small cafes. Can we go back to the old airport,
which is still sitting next door?

Nice modern terminal. Only complaint was that the boarding gate information was wrong on the board and
the signs at the gate, and there was nobody from the airport or the airline to direct passengers. I found out
the correct gate number and ended up making an announcement myself.

Whilst the new terminal has the general ambience of better-known international airports, corners have been
cut in the detailing, probably due to the Spanish economic situation. The car rental situation is quite
ridiculous. I have been through the new terminal 3 times since it opened and the route from the car rental
desks to the car pick-up area is confusing without any adequate signage. There are always groups of
bewildered people wandering around lost. You have either to go down by escalator from arrivals, cross the
road and up in a lift, or up in a lift from arrivals to a bridge, cross over, and then down in a lift (the levels are
numbered differently on each side of the bridge). The car rental booths need to be better staffed to alleviate
the long queues that build up. Everything is pre-booked so they know what to expect.

The new airport is a lot larger so be prepared for a route march to get luggage etc on arrival. Going back we
had rude and unhelpful check-in staff. Food and drink is astronomical it will cost you about 7 euros for a
sandwich and a drink and 2 euros. When we got to the allocated boarding gate there were no seats which
meant my daughter sitting on the floor and elderly passengers struggling to stay standing for the 40 minutes
we had to wait there!

I was treated at the control area with great disrespect. After taking off my footwear, as requested, I
proceeded to walk through. As I entered the boarding side this security woman approached me and snatched
my scarf from around my neck, without any explanation As I speak Spanish this was completely uncalled for,
and , in my opinion, showed a vast amount of ignorance on her part. I appreciate that checks are necessary,
for the safeguard of passengers, but she, and maybe all of the staff there, need a lesson in customer facing
care.

Arrival from Stansted a breeze, straight through immigration. On departure 10 minutes through to departures. Not
keen on being forced to walk through tax free shopping area. New terminal very bright and airy although a long walk
to Ryanair departure at area B. Extensive catering choice but as has been said already prices very expensive.

The irony is that since this new airport opened, the frequency of some flights seems to have fallen. I refer
especially to the internal flights from Alicante to Madrid, particularly on Business Class. Iberia now only operate 2
flights per day, compared to about 8 per day from the old airport. The parking is ok, apart from the fact that only
1 level out of 5 is available for parking private cars, Level 5 has been closed for months. While the catering facilities
are good, the prices are very high.

Nice new terminal building is a vast improvement on the old ones, although there's a lot more walking involved.
Processing was efficient and the air-side environment is very enjoyable.

Modern and convenient airport, but lot of walking both upon arrival and departure.
In the public area limited food facilities with overpriced offer: EUR13.40 for two sandwiches and a 50cl Fanta!
Bus line C6 connects the airport to downtown Alicante every 20 mins - EUR 2.60 one-way, travel time around half an hour.
However bus schedules are rather approximate - each time had a delay of 10-15mins. Upon departure check-in was hassle-free - however=self-service machines
are for Iberia flights only. No queue at security, friendly staff with good command of English.
Good air conditioning in the terminal. Limited seating areas at the boarding gates. Business lounge is spacious and fairly comfortable.

Arrival processing and baggage reclaim fairly quick, but a lot of walking down shallow ramps
that double back several times. Nevertheless, only about 25 mins from gate arrival to
exiting. Departures not such a good experience, Iberia handling is very slow and not enough
desks open for the number of departing flights (not really the airport's fault). However,
security is fast and efficient with no lines to speak of. Plenty of space airside, but it was
a quiet winter Thursday. Adequate food outlets, but very expensive for basic items. Travel
value shop to be avoided where possible as all prices are well above those in shops outside.
The current terminals are operating at near capacity and a new terminal is due to open this year.

9 April 2008 Customer Rating :
Went to Alicante today to collect relatives over for a 3 week holiday. Parking good and fair price.
Arrivals hall terminal one fair, but several broken seats in waiting area. Food at snack bar good
quality but very expensive, we live in Spain and know what is a fair price, this wasn´t. Toilets at
terminal one arrival dirty, smelly, no hand drying facilities as dryer broken, no soap available, no
paper towels. Disgusting state and NOT representative at all of Spain. Poor introduction for first
time visitors. Those responsible should be ashamed.

30 December 2007 Customer Rating :
Modern and clean airport. However, on the airside of the airport, cafes prices were expensive with
poor quality sandwiches and snacks - a pack of sandwiches with uninteresting filling cost about 5
Euros which is even more than most (low cost airlines) charge. Tax Free (?) shops has reasonable
selection of wines, cigarettes and other products.

This airport is not the youngest, but still handles passengers very efficiently. The connexion to
the town is well provided: bus C6 in front of the terminal every 40' at the incredible price of 1€.
Semi-fast food restaurants are spread at different locations in the terminal. All in all, a pleasant
and efficient airport.

Agree with previous rating, busy but efficient airport. No immigration checks but quick check-in and
security. Only downside is lack of luggage trolley, a pain if you've booked a hire car as it can be a
long walk.

17 July 2007 Customer Rating :
Used very recently. Upon arrival, no problems at all, no passport
control on duty so straight through to the baggage carousels then well
signposted exits. On return a week later, another good experience,
queuing for check-in but lines weren't too long. Nice departure area.

Arrived Alicante 2100 hrs on Friday evening. Off plane & into baggage
collection within 10 minutes. No passport control, booths were empty.
Looking forward to using again.

When you arrive at the airport there are usually long queues depending
on the time of year you go. These however do shorten very quickly but
the two lanes that they have for each destination get confusing because
sometimes the queues bend around. The airport is always clean and
pleasant and there is enough room to move around easily while shopping
and plenty of seats. The only bad points that I can think of are ,
everytime I travel from Alicante airport they allocate the gates that I
have to travel through and then at the last minute they change, which
means everytime everybody runs to their correct gate. This is also very
annoying when you havent got allocated seats, when flying with certain
budget airlines, because everybody races and pushes each other. Another
bad point is that when you fly from gate one you think that you can go
straight onto the plane and you are the first in the queue, but then you
have to walk into another room, wait for somebody to come and then get
onto a bus to get to your plane. This is similar to the 'gate situation'
in that if you haven't got allocated seats everybody is pushing each
other to get to the front. This isn't fair on the families with young
children who are called first so that they have priority to sit by each
other, by having everybody wait in a room first allows anybody to push
in.

10 June 2006
We arrived from Stansted and were very impressed. Saturday is a busy day
at ALC and we parked on a remote stand but the steps and buses arrived
in a flash. The immigration hall is bit bizarre as one enters at right
angles to the point of exit. There was a substantial Italian style queue
but it dispersed steadily even with only one immigration officer. The
baggage hall was well organised. One snag with our car hire and, I
believe some others, is that some of the big names have slightly less
obviously named partners at ALC and can be difficult to spot. For the
return journey the departure and check in facilities were pleasant, cool
and airy. Catering has improved markedly and the El Palmeral restaurant
is to be recommended landside. We have been using ALC on and off for
years and this is an airport which has made the improvements it needed.
This is particularly the case with catering and, although it could get
very busy, it is a welcoming airport. See also my comments on Murcia.

Adrian Jay asks about Murcia San Javier. My husband and I have flown
into and out of it several times as private pilots and fare paying
passengers, most recently in November 2005. It is adequate for an
airport of its size though the departure hall was chaotic with several
flights checking in at once, with a shortage of seats and cafe space.
The ground staff made no attempt to priority board the aircraft and it
became a free for all. Parking is very limited, though more is going to
be provided. The airport is going to struggle as the Costas become
busier with all the new properties south of Cartagena, though in a few
years' time there will be the new Murcia Airport inland. Of course, one
can avoid all this by flying in one's own aircraft, though the
operations staff still take an age to process the departure paperwork!

I like Alicante airport. I agree that the check in can be a little slow and
crowded, but once through to the departure lounge there are plenty of seats, good selection of shops,
toilets are clean etc. Arrival is OK too, but you can wait ages at the car hire desks which can
be frustrating. Murcia/San Javier is nearer to Torrevieja, but I've no idea what it's like and there
very few comments posted - anyone tried Murcia as an alternative ?

Queues to check in were quite long and slow, and the queues through the detectors
into departure lounge were long, though they only had half of the desks open, so that
was the likely reason! Once through though the departure lounge is lovely. Clean
ammenities and plenty of food and drink. Very comfy indeed!

Access to Alicante airport is good with easy parking . The check in hall is bright and spacious and
there is a good range of shops. There is a fair range of eating establishments serving good quality
food. Toilets are clean and plentiful. There is adequate seating in the departure lounge and gates
are close and served by air bridges. This was in February so I imagine it could get a little crowded
during the summer months. A good airport nevertheless.

If you are taking a late evening flight from Alicante please bring some food! Most if not all of the
shops and food halls close. The duty free store (the smallest) does however remain open so you
could survive on chocolate and turron! Airport is easy to navigate, car rental booths can get very very busy in the summer, 1hr+ queues.

Terminal is quite roomy with decent shopping and eating facilities. Plenty of places to sit,
alltough more and more charter flights coming so I don't know for how long.
